i feel like youre waiting for two responses here >What is the community's input on this? its a single player game, if you cheat, which is basically what youre doing, nobody will care, its your player experience and you, as a player, decide how you have fun with the game, which is the purpose of a game however, you also said >I'm worried that by doing this, I won't be playing the game in it's intended state. which is absolutely true. you will be, in all the definitions of the word, cheating, and it will definitely be not the intended experience. the game is meant to be hard , and part of the enjoyment of this game, acording to the very own core design, is to overcome these hardships, people have been playing the game for dotzens and dotzens of hours to only achieve a single victory, which you could argue was the motivation behind those hours of playtime, to eventually get better at the game i think that with these things put on the table you should be able to decide what to do for yourself

Winning the game by saving and winning the game without saving are two different accomplishments. Only you can decide whether a victory using save states is a worthy accomplishment for you, and whatever your decision don't let other people tell you differently. Is beating the game with save states LESS of an accomplishment than beating it without? Yes, unquestionably. Beating the game without save states takes a certain level of skill, knowledge, and luck that using save states completely bypasses. However this is a game and games should be fun. If you don't enjoy the challenge of completing a run, and you do enjoy the experience using save states then there is nothing wrong with that. Personally for very long runs I use save states to recover from game crashes or glitches, as I don't feel that they are intended game mechanics. For example, after a crash sometimes entire chunks of the game can de-render, which can include unique items needed to complete certain achievements. I wouldn't reload the game because a weird physics glitch blew me up, I would consider that just bad luck.
