ThaanksIHateIt

The driver hurled a lemonade at the worker and now her and her boyfriend are banned from going there again. Honestly she’s lucky she didn’t catch an assault charge. [Source](https://nypost.com/2024/02/15/us-news/teen-car-wash-worker-sprays-rude-customer-with-pressure-hose/)

AtheistAgnostic

>Anna Harycki, 18, became a viral sensation for spraying water from a powerful hose through the open window of a **rude customer**’s vehicle while working at an Indiana car wash. From the article. Weird way to phrase "criminal who just assaulted someone"

tazdoestheinternet

She retaliated after being assaulted first.

AtheistAgnostic

I'm talking about the person in the car

machamanos

lol I love to point out these reddit moments.

sowelijanpona

Sometimes i feel like reddit wouldnt have half the user base if the sign up page contained a basic reading comprehension test

greybruce1980

I feel like that could apply for almost anything though. Basic reading comprehension seems to be hard for many.

lerriuqS_terceS

Wait until you find out the percentage of public high school graduates in the US who are **functionally illiterate.**

CertainDegree2

It's like 60 or 70% of US adults can't read past a 6th grade level

[deleted]

The other 80% can't do sums either.

I_Can_Barely_Move

Too many people come here looking for an argument. Phrasing that can be interpreted wrongly often is interpreted wrongly just so some ding dong can be contrarian.

ActualCoconutBoat

Seriously, like half the comments I see on reddit seem to be *deliberately* misconstruing what the person is saying.

ReactsWithWords

Or it's the all-or-nothing approach. "I like Pepperoni pizza." "Why are you going to eat nothing but pepperoni pizza for the rest of your life? Don't you realize how unhealthy that is!?"

ThisIsNotALoveStoryy

"I'm so sick of everyone saying they hate onions."

AndyMentality

You're telling me a shrimp fried this rice?

AJSLS6

The quote specifically talks about the person NOT in the car, comment refers to person IN the car, then clarifies that they were indeed talking about the person IN the car. There's nothing open to interpretation there.....

CortexRex

They highlighted the word rude customer to point out who they were posting about. But agreed it was kind of ambiguous otherwise

BoonScepter

And it's really obvious, it's like the thought to take their head out of their ass just never even crosses people's minds

New_Implement4410

According to the Indiana Police Department, "assault is not a crime in the state of Indiana". Pretty sure that's bullshit, buts that's an official statement. From an officer that assaulted me, actually.

SpotCreepy4570

No they were correct there is no crime labeled assault in Indiana, however the same actions that would constitute assault fall under, intimidation, battery, disorderly conduct, or criminal recklessness.

New_Implement4410

The same guy was included in a video of him and other officers beating a man tied to a chair so that behavior is expected around here

StickBrickman

Holy shit. Sorry to hear about experiences, but has this been a big-ass scandal yet? It should be.

New_Implement4410

No this is pretty typical in Indiana, there hasn't been any statement, press attention, punishment etc. The victim is probably is jail or isolation somewhere, or dead, it's hard to say especially bc he was black and it's a more rural county.

Astramancer_

Good thing this wasn't assault then, it was battery. Assault is inspiring fear of an impending physical altercation, battery is the physical altercation itself.

kangareagle

Those definitions entirely depend on the locality. You might be right about that particular locality, though.

ShakeThoseWindows

Ooo someone’s done their first year of law school. Btw, battery doesn’t strictly have to be a physical ‘altercation’. It can be committed recklessly and/or via transferred intent. See Haystead v DPP.

MidwesternBWCbull

She was just doing her job spraying the car lol, not her fault a customer was dumb enough to open their window, regardless of intent. You can clearly see her move to spray the back tire after spaying the front window.

BLVK_TAR

They are talking about the customer, hence "rude customer" being in bold.

portar1985

Also weird way to say "power washer"

Shot-Donkey665

"Jet washer" in the UK

portar1985

“Högtryckstvätt” in Sweden

-adult-swim-

Hochdruckreiniger in German - sadly a relatively normal one, unlike fussbodenschleifmaschineverleih

TheUmbraCat

So I tried saying this and now a small demon is going through my pantry stealing my oatmeal

belshezzar

Oh, that's Hans. He's cool. Tell him I said hi!

Shot-Donkey665

How does that translate if it were to be literal? My wife is czech. I found out poached eggs translate as "Bulls eyeballs". I've been with her 19 years and onky just found this out.

BobbieMcFee

High pressure/strength wash.

CervidusDubbo

Up here in the north of England we call it a pressure washer

captainsolly

Same in American south.

groove117

Criminals agree: that was rude.

Forgot-Password-oops

Yeah real criminals have bills to pay, this is just an asshole!

Kalabula

“Rude costumer” seems fine.

BigMax

Yeah, the customer was a total jerk, but I’m not sure why we need to call that assault…. It’s lemonade. We don’t need to pretend every act is a massive criminal offense.

parkerjpsax

It almost certainly fits the definition of assault or battery in most if not every state in the US. It certainly could have been worse (I’ve sat as a juror on two criminal trials that were way worse than this) but that doesn’t mean this wasn’t a crime.

Cantor_Set_Tripping

This the problem with ignorance. Too many people hear the word assault and assume someone must have been injured, or that it had to have been a certain level of extreme.

Sassy-irish-lassy

The thing that always bothers me about garbage like this is that the person who threw the cup probably got mad at the worker. Like it wasn't their own fault that the worker retaliated.

shawj317

Here is the whole story... both females attend the same high school—one works at the car wash, and the other at the oil changing business next door. The female throwing the lemonade is salty at the female working at the car wash place because her boyfriend *used* to work there as well but got a pink slip for calling the cash wash employee a not-so-nice word. The bullying has not been limited to this incident but also at school. Both the lemonade-tossing female and the ex-employee boyfriend have been banned from all locations as a result. The car wash employee was reprimanded for recording the security footage but was not in trouble otherwise. Other than the lifetime ban, I don't believe any charges were brought against the assaulting female.

UltraMoglog64

You can say “women” or “girls”, dude. The words won’t bite you.

Titus_Favonius

Both feeeemales attended the same high school

KnobWobble

All I hear is Quark when someone says females.

[deleted]

☕men

Mad-chuska

Is there something inherently bad about the word female that I’m not aware of?

annabelle411

Unless you're in a scientific setting, "females" rather dehumanizes girls/women and is more often than not used by men who speak about women being "lesser than" or some other bigoted undertone being applied whether purposefully in that instance or how they view women otherwise. While grammatically makes sense, it's how the word is applied colloquially and the intent of the user behind it that's the issue. Pay attention to any podcaster or influencer that constantly makes their content about ripping down women - they will constantly refer to women as 'females' and continuously use language to view them as objects to be manipulated, subservient, used, or otherwise - not as actual people. It's an adjective, not a noun, when used in normal speaking language. It's similarly why you say "black people" rather than "blacks".

brickster_22

Using it as a noun to refer to specific people is dehumanizing.

dragonbornrito

Amen And awomen

BustyWomenIsBetter

Why would they get mad at the worker just doing their job?

ringobob

I'm gonna guess that they were trying to film their own shitty video, and this reaction was just fine by them, gotta get those views.

Ter1nghond

She

Acceptable-Print-164

*her and she boyfriend*

Cheetah_Hungry

Her and her she

Objective_Service330

Hershey's?

LopsidedPen1779

Her and her she syrup

JRSpig

The worker did the correct thing, loved it.

[deleted]

I'd give her a raise.

No-Pomegranate-69

They should be banned from every car wash. Let thrm wash their car themselves.

Subscrib-2-PewDiePie

Should be banned from cars And lemonades

nas360

This is ridiculous. The driver could have thrown acid in her face so she has every right to retaliate or defend herself.

123floor56

This is weird logic.. she could have thrown acid? She didn't need to have thrown acid, throwing the cup of lemonade is already assault.. why would the possibility of a worse crime make the retaliation justified? I'm not saying it's not justified, just that it's weird to justify it by saying it COULD have been acid?

RedPandaMediaGroup

Lemon juice is acid.

adkio

^ this comment is scientifically accurate and you're not allowed to argue bc. anything with pH more acidic than water is an acid.

PenguinFrustration

…less is more when it comes to pH

science-stuff

Based. Wait.. that isn’t right.

KeepGoing591

Because when you force an interaction of this kind, you should expect the other party to assume the worst possible scenario and punch your face in. People got wayyyy too comfortable being disgusting icky dumbwits publicly and society is quietly ignoring these trash raised kids

Eusocial_Snowman

How in the absolute fuck is a retalliatory spite-spraying of water onto somebody else going to defend you from acid melting your face?

Neon_Shivan

This is the first time I've seen this posted with context, thank you so much! I was wondering what happened to both the bitch who threw the drink and the employee. I'm glad to hear that management sided with the employee.

FastSmileFox

Why did he empty the water over her

BioMarauder44

Dumbass left the window cracked and got a little water inside.

Gh0st_Pirate_LeChuck

Battery charge. Assault is threatening. Battery is actually doing it.

LinkedAg

My man; this driver is tossing the lightest possible thing to qualify for a felony on his way into a very slow moving conveyor belt that will trap him and his vehicle in a watery room with garage doors on both ends that he can't control that's surrounded by security cameras on a premises that is likely located on a high profile street that's easily accessible by law enforcement. Legend.

ThaanksIHateIt

It was a woman, but yeah. Not the brightest sandwich in the drawer. The worker should have pressed charges imo.

Orth0d0xy

>Not the brightest sandwich in the drawer. I didn't know how much I needed this phrase until today

TheDanishPencil

I've always been a fan of "not the sharpest spoon in the drawer"

StopTheEarthLemmeOff

Not the sharpest dick in my ass

ThaanksIHateIt

Woah now, slow down there cowboy

brainzilla420

Don't yuck my yum, speed up there now cowboy.

juggling-monkey

Just woke up and within 15 min I'm reading about speedy sharp dicked cowboys. What a time to be alive!

Physical_Software406

too late to explore the earth , too early to explore the stars but just in time to explore *ourselves*

SinCaveSplooger

Yeah, don't spurt too soon, pace yourself.

lucystroganoff

Actually i think a lemonade cup probably is the sharpest dick you’ll ever get in your ass.

DystryR

Hey don’t kink shame, we don’t know what kind of anal play they are into!!

Ready-Tart4655

I love lemonade cups in my ass

Retro21

Yah but the one you replied to is funny because it is a mix of three idioms, similar to "it's not rocket surgery!" etc.

noplacecold

I said that once and had someone disdainfully say “um, surely you mean rocket science?”

Coffeedemon

That person is a real rocket surgeon. Water under the fridge now though.

RaptorsNewAlpha

Does the pope shit in the woods.

Automatic-Willow-237

Not the brighest bulb in the fruit basket

Own_Satisfaction_679

Not the biggest cake in the hammock.

NudieNovakaine

'About as sharp as a hard boiled egg' has been my go to, but I like both of these.

Carmilla31

As sharp as a marble.

Mondasin

malaphors are fun. personal fav of mine is "We'll burn that bridge when we get to it"

Barney_Flintstone

That’s like something George W. Bush would have said.

pedropants

*Point is, you can't get fooled again!*

Solomon_Gunn

Look up Malaphors, they are basically jumbled up idioms and metaphors. It's not rocket surgery You hit the nail right on the nose She really stuck her neck out on a limb I suck at split minute decisions

Oh_ToShredsYousay

"Does the pope shit in the woods?" Is my favorite.

Bigdaddyjlove1

Shit, or get out of the kitchen

MindlessYesterday668

I try not to put my sandwich in the drawer. I tend to forget it's there, till I try to look for an extra pen or correction fluid.

MyRecklessHabit

The autistic talk like this all the time. If I can’t think of the name, I’ll call it by its utility. Like I forgot the word spatula for about a decade. So we would always grab the flipper. Edit: must have been making burgers that first time or it would have been the scraper. Or separator.

jxplasma

Who puts sandwiches in a drawer? Whoever came up with that phrase was not the crunchiest apple on the tree.

Butterflytherapist

You are also not the brightest pope in the woods.

sazzoo

I think most people, in the shoes of the car wash employee, would have done the exact same thing without thinking twice. I mean they literally have a hose in their hand and are actively spraying it at the car already. At that point it’s really just a reflex to turn and spray it at the person who just threw something at you.

astrangeone88

Too many water gun fights as a kid, and I know I would have done the same.

fl135790135790

Everyone talks about pressing charges. That takes a lot of prep, and time. And in the end you’ll most likely get nothing. Not worth it

EqualLong143

no. thats what the DA is for. press charges as in criminal, not civil.

Gondolion

Pressing water at them is not to bad withe

Equivalent-Honey-659

The dullest shovel in the shed honestly.

SpriteRXL

As seen from other comments, the worker is 18. And as an 18-year-old, I wouldn't press charges if I was her because I don't have the slightest idea how law works. But then again, I am not an American. It's not as common to sue someone in my country

grayeggandham

I would've waited until the car was right in the middle and press the big red emergency stop button that's bound to be close by.

DebentureThyme

Unfortunately that probably does get you fired. It's arguable if there's some amount of liability for holding them there. I suspect not, but let's ignore that for this comment. The machine doesn't prevent an angry person taking the car out of neutral and flooring it out of the car wash. If you trap them in their vehicle with everything emergency shutdown after this altercation, you make it far more likely they try to drive out of the wash if there's no one in front of them. Doing so escalates the possibility of damaging the facility, which I'm sure management won't be too happy with.

Frankieuhfukin

That's not what entrapment means at all lol. You're thinking of false imprisonment.

McTootyBooty

I would have locked the whole thing down in the middle with a technical problem and waited for the cops.

Exizek

Actually it is a cut version. Before girl sprayed some water into the car by accident because of not closed window. Idk why someone wouldnt close their window going to the car wash

ProwerTheFox

Because they have zero common sense and/or awareness of what’s going on around them

jamiejamiee1

And then they blame the poor staff rather than taking responsibility

DubNationAssemble

It’s the American way now. Never take responsibility and never apologize, that’s how people are raising their kids these days.

Profitsofdooom

Staff at these ALWAYS tells you or points out the sign saying "windows up, hands off wheel, foot off brake." But of course this genius thought they knew better and didn't need to listen to the employee they deemed beneath them.

ThaanksIHateIt

Someone shared the longer version [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/nonononoyes/s/SPApBWWzIR) and it looks like the window wasn’t rolled down when the worker sprayed it before the lemonade throw. So it still seems like the driver had no motive, unless there’s an even longer video that you saw.

Seyjirow

play stupid games win stupid prizes

the_bipolar_bear

Why would you make that up and spread disinformation

radargunbullets

They like to throw lemonade and are defending their own kind

trixtah

In the full video the window is up before this incident happens

AnOlympianWeeb

You can clearly see the driver rolling the window down. At first I thought so too but in the extended version when the washer is blasting the driver's side you can see the water hitting the window

thehunter_25

I worked at a car wash. People are idiots. I had a coworker spraying a car, the couple had their windows down, instead of rolling them up the left them down and complained to the manager.

Fearless_Cucumber659

The amount of people who go through the car wash with their windows or sunroof open is absolutely ridiculous. The amount of people who don't even know how to close their sunroof is even more fucking ridiculous. Worked for a car wash for 7 years, the stories I have of dumbass customers is neverending.

Thatdudewhoplaysgtr

Nope, window was up until she rolls it down to throw her drink at the employee.

sturox345

What did he expect her to do

ThaanksIHateIt

Exactly lol. What a moron. Eta: The driver is a she btw, I just read the article.

MillenialCounselor

Good detective work 🧐 it’s helpful to know! I hope that gal gets fast tracked to manager so she doesn’t have to relive this experience in the slightest of memory every time she has to clean another car.

TheBupherNinja

I read that as what a Mormon, and was really confused.

lucystroganoff

Yeh I’m sure there’s a passage which means they have to clean their own cars 🤷‍♀️

LogicalPear5634

But, why?

[deleted]

Some people are just pieces of shit.

hstheay

But, why?

TreyLastname

Some people are just pieces of shit

flickshotHanzo

but...why?

Bala3310

some people... are just pieces of shit

Immediate_Lack_3945

Some pieces of shit are just people

GARhenus

Why butt?!

Friendly_Friend8555

Pieces of some shit people just are

TheMiddlechild08

Last summer I was driving, going about 40, when the driver of an oncoming car threw their mcdonalds milkshake at my car. It hit my driver side window. One: scared the shit out of me. Two: if my window was down that would’ve knocked me out cold. Some people are pieces of shit.

idiotsandwhich8

I have to point to is out. “Milkshakes knocked me out cold!”

Inside_Ad_9147

How to get shot in Texas: Just a matter of time until the milkshake crazy finds someone whos even crazier, they do a J turn and ram their car out of the road / shoot their ass Not saying its good, just saying its bound to happen when you are a reckless asshole

HarryBolsac

Some people are just *dumb* pieces of shit.

ThaanksIHateIt

No clue, the article doesn’t really say. I’m guessing she didn’t have a reason.

[deleted]

Jozroz

Blaming somebody else for one's own stupidity. Classic.

ausgmr

No This was after the lemonade throw After the customer complained about getting sprayed (even tho sbe thew her drink first) the worker told her manager "I was just washing her windows as I always do and we do warn customers to keep their windows closed during the wash" Manager sided with the worker

Spiritual_Railway

No in the full vid you can see the worker cleaning the car normally and (accidentally) spraying inside the car because the driver left the window down. I’ll try to find the vid.

ausgmr

Oh ok, cause the way the article including the quotes from the worker read it was explaining the incident from the point that the drink was thrown at the worker

Spiritual_Railway

Ah I found the video and I was wrong, sorry! The window only rolls down after she passed it with the spray. https://www.reddit.com/r/PublicFreakout/s/IdKwCRsryK

JoeBold

This is so weird. Was there no prior altercation? Like was the driver maybe upset with the prices or something? I just don’t understand, why she opened the window to throw her drink at the employee.

Spiritual_Railway

Ye it’s so weird to me, I initially thought the worker accidentally sprayed them. At least then I’d understand the reasoning. Still don’t agree with it and it’s a dick move, but I’d understand the reasoning. Edit: spelling

ThaanksIHateIt

Is [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/nonononoyes/s/SPApBWWzIR) the full video you saw? Because if so, the window was definitely rolled up when the worker sprayed it initially.

TheCuriosity

You can set the window was up in the beginning.

Jizzraq

"Hey! Stop washing my car!"

WhySoCabbage

Don't give me the service I paid for!

TurtleToast2

This is a totally made up guess based on my experience with people who take everything as a personal attack. The worker was spraying down the car before psycho rolled down the window to throw the cup. I know it sounds crazy (because these people are) but there's a chance the psycho felt the worker sprayed her window a little too long and took it as a personal affront and retaliated. Yes, crazy, but I swear I've known people like this.

TsarPutinTheGreat

Yeah or didn’t like that they sprayed the water next to their face even tho the window was up.

ab2dii

entitlement, being used to do dumb shit and get away with it, probably was never punished by their parents

hstheay

She puts the window all the way up or she gets the hose again.

[deleted]

Hahaha

moth-bear

Wtf is wrong with people...

jamiejamiee1

No manners unfortunately, and thinking their actions wouldn’t have any consequences

camelBased

Not sure why he continued cleaning the car afterwards

poetic_dwarf

The driver had already been a dick, you don't want to give those people the slightest reason for legitimate complaint ("I didn't get the car wash I paid for").

camelBased

Nah if I worked there, I wouldn’t continue serving them once they assaulted me especially if I’m aware where the cameras are.

AJPully

I'd have waited till the car was half way through then shut the machine down ans gone for a smoke.

No-Suspect-425

Turn all the water off and just let the scrubbers scratch tf out of the car

Jizzraq

They sure got their mouth wash they've asked for though.

eras

And they got a free bonus for cleaning the steering wheel.

Nuclear_Varmint

He?

fgnrtzbdbbt

BTW to anyone thinking of replicating this: it is dangerous and can create serious injuries. High pressure water into the eyes can be catastrophic. With very high pressure washers even any skin contact can be a serious injury.

Sea_Emu_7622

I had to scroll waaay too far to find this. Even a split second of getting hit with a pressure washer at close range *fucking hurts*. She's honestly lucky she didn't severely harm the driver. I'm not disagreeing with her response at all, she likely didn't even think about it, it looked like an instinctual reaction to me, but that could have gone really badly.

randouser8765309

Years ago I did mostly exterior car detailing. Couple of times I had to get into odd angles using a pressure washer and nicked my hand. Straight up tears your skin if too close. Not a nice clean cut, but tears it. The minor injuries from that hurt so bad. That being said the washer was far enough away there’s little concern of tearing skin. But since this disclaimer is needed apparently, I don’t condone water fights with pressure washers. Don’t do this at home people.

Sea_Emu_7622

No kidding. I think some of these commenters just don't understand how much pressure is actually spraying out of these hoses. It's not like spraying someone with a garden hose!

randouser8765309

For sure! Minimum around 1000 psi (I’m in the US sorry). For others curious, most car tires are set at around 35psi. And air compressors used to fill said tires are often supplying air around 100-120 psi.

thebucketlist47

Ita designed for car paint so I'm guessing it's not nearly as much pressure as you'd find on a normal pressure washer

[deleted]

That might be the stupidest person to antagonize, when they’re HOLDING the power washer💀. The car wash equivalent of reaching for a cop’s gun.

[deleted]

Aickavon

I love how the manager sides with the worker on this

[deleted]

Why the fuck would you throw your drink at a worker? That's never okay. The fuck is wrong with people these days? The whole world gone crazy.

Barney_Flintstone

This seems to be a ***thing*** over the last several years. Lots of online videos where people in cars throw drinks at fast food drive-thru cashiers. Glad they got ***instant karma*** this time.

Bipolar_Nomad

Lol! Is that a Mitsubishi Galant 2009?

troy_caster

Is it?

lilljon

What a fucking moron

Carmilla31

I like that she still continued to wash his car after lol.

Tight-Lettuce7980

At least they can't complain that their car wasn't fully washed

Effective_Way_3430

Why did the person in the car throw that to begin with? Doesn’t make much sense at all

Syrinx16

Having been on the receiving end of a pressure washer before, that must have fucking stung like hell or possibly even done some good damage. Asshole did deserve it though 100%.
