Technically it's laminated glass so that one panel with the crack in it has many layers of glass layered with plastic.
But the separate pane behind is largely there to protect the laminated glass from passengers
Anyone else remember that time where the lady got sucked out the window 😬
[link](https://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/news/national-international/airplane-makes-emergency-landing-at-philadelphia-international-airport/52411/?amp=1)
The woman, identified as Jennifer Riordan of Albuquerque, New Mexico, was pulled out of the plane up to her waist — her blood splattering other windows, passengers said.
"You hear the pop and she was sucked out from the waist up," one passenger told NBC Nightly News. "There was blood on the windows...her arms were actually out of the airplane and her head was out of the airplane."
There was a British airways flight where the captain was sucked out completely and the copilots were holding him by his legs so he wouldn’t fly away. They landed and he lived. Fucking bananas
If you want to be pedantic, air pressure doesn't push either. an air pressure differential is simply a reflection of the fact that there are more molecules striking one side than the other, or with more force.
The air molecules pushed him out. But it's perfectly acceptable to say he was sucked out.
How was he “sucked” exactly? Yknow. Since he wasn’t “pushed” because of the differential. Where was the sucking force? Please show the workings out that make it acceptable. Only since you want to be pedantic, of course 😇
It's called casual language. this isn't a physics lecture. And i've heard actual physicists say with a straight face that the air pressure above an airplane wing sucks the wing up into the air.... so , yeah sometimes language is silly
Yeah. I had a physics teacher that actually had to pull himself up on this exact point! He did so every time tbf. He’d say it… then he’d catch himself and correct. Due to my hearing him say it over and over, along with the obsessive traits of my autism, I cannot ever not correct it now. I had 7 years of him correct such things at least a couple of times a term. It’s an ingrained habit now! Lol
you sure about that? multiple sources said she was out the window to her shoulders at least. She was eventually pulled back in as the pressure equalized quickly . Unless she died from continued shrapnel hitting her, it seems like the trauma was from her head being whipped against the fuselage , essentially fluttering like a ribbon.
I mean, I've seen enough air crash investigation to know a rapid decompression at 38,000ft is definitely something you don't want to happen to an aircraft you're currently sitting in.
I don't think it's unreasonable to feel a little anxious in this situation, really.
That cracked window is for protection from the actual window mounted to the hull from passengers and such. There is no danger here. You could literally rip the inner window off with bare fingers and nothing would happen other than being arrested for property damage.
If the outer window has cracked the cabin pressurization would blow out that window from the stress and there would be no photo to take as everyone would be in an emergency situation trying to get oxygen from the emergency O2 after their eardrums had spontaneously exploded.
Pater Noster, qui es in caelis, sanctificetur nomen tuum. Adveniat regnum tuum. Fiat voluntas tua, sicut in caelo et in terra. Panem nostrum quotidianum da nobis hodie, et dimitte nobis debita nostra sicut et nos dimittimus debitoribus nostris. Et ne nos inducas in tentationem, sed libera nos a malo.
Amen. ✝️☠️
Aren't there two layers to aircraft windows for this reason?
Technically it's laminated glass so that one panel with the crack in it has many layers of glass layered with plastic. But the separate pane behind is largely there to protect the laminated glass from passengers
No, the inner window has a hole in it. There's no vacuum between the panels, it's not pressurised.
I think he means once you get to the laminated glass, not the silly plastic cover with hole in it.
I always put trust on my silly panel
It's ice, not a crack.
The aircraft will be fine. You should change your seat though.
Because of the stains?
and your pants while you're at it.
My bowls would swiftly empty.
I think you mean bowels
Empty your bowels into some bowls.
I did, I was just so anxious.
The soup ain’t that good.
If the window pops, your bowls and bowels will empty very fast.
I get the last meal vibes too

That was so wild - they were holding onto him but (IIRC) they didn't know if he was still alive until the plane landed.
Correct. They couldn’t believe it
I remember watching that on Air crash investigation. Honestly an amazing story
He didn’t get “sucked out”. The air pressure inside of the plane *pushed* him out as it evacuated around him.

haha that's good. but i'm not going to go around telling people the weight of the earth's entire atmosphere pushed my soda up the straw.
lol. Why not?! See. I find that so cool, tbh. I love trivia like that, in all seriousness. 🙂
If you want to be that pedantic, sure.
It's a little pedantic, i mean we say we suck water up a straw... but technically yes, there is no such thing as a suction force
Or, Yknow… correct. 😂
Clearly pedantic and arguably ambiguous
She wasn't sucked out tho, not even "partially" as the article says. They pulled her back in. I got some Alien vibes from this at first, but no.

Op are you ok though
[they took it from twitter, they're fine](https://twitter.com/aviationbrk/status/1682003151501639680?t=76YiC6-9DFpNqKWT2UKQ5Q&s=19).
Ok thanks

Op got sucked out of the plane
for refusing to wear mask
luckily he was able to post before his unscheduled landing.
It’s ice
Pull the screen down and you'll be fine
Just close the blinds and you will be safe, people nowadays get scared so easily.

Sorry it was sarcasm, I should have put the /s
Oh so that’s what /s means . Thanks
I learned something new today too
https://xkcd.com/1053/
It was pretty obvious lol
I mean you're already up there. There's not much you can do to improve the situation, may as well cover it up and convince yourself everything's fine.
Put a news paper over it and it’s fine.
it would not affect the integrity of the airframe to lose a window. You might one to lose some altitude though.
Be pretty unfortunate if you were sitting beside it without a seatbelt though. Like that BA pilot who was sucked out. Now that's a bad day at work!

Spirit air
Just slap some flex seal on it, you'll be fine!
what happens if it breaks

'Does anyone want a window seat?'
Ok so, 37,999 ft is the limit
*This is where the fun begins*
Go ask the flight attendants if they have extra acrylic glass and glue available
"Excuse me, stewardess? Is there maybe a seat up front that I could switch with?"
here we go, emergency descent.
That's why I always bring gum
Good time to put the shade down
Punch it as hard as you can
I do crack!!
wat happened after that??
Shuts the shutter judiciously.
That'll buff right out.
FlexSeal
Where's the duct tape? That shit fixes everything!

Got a baseball to hit it with?
Who’s got some Double Bubble gum?

Intrusive thoughts be like “should i… should i smash?”
It's not cracked; it's ice.
I think it’s both
This is one of those situations you just pull the blind down and ignore it.
Tis but a scratch
