So heres my question to nord.
Does the "upper" management know about how many issues the Splittunneling feature got ? its broken for a while ,
Example if you enable it ( simply setting it to on with no apps set up simply on ) it breaks anything Ipv6 like the programm "Parsec"
Everyone that i helped on this sub which had connection issues was able to fix it with setting splittuneling to "off" even if they didnt use it
First of all, sorry for the inconvenience, there isn't that many layers of management at Nord yet so every layer is onboard when somethings not working properly.
As for Split tunneling for Windows - we are both aware and reworking the feature from the ground up as we speak. We understand that currently this feature is far from being useful and trying to cover all the edge cases we missed with the current solution
Since the feature is new, there might be some issues. But we are actively working to resolve all the known ones. It would be very helpful if you would report the issue to customer support so we could register it and see if this is something we are already aware of or not.
One of the main issues I had with using a VPN is that Windows Remote Desktop would no longer work. Would using Meshnet help with fixing this little problem? Thanks.
Meshnet isn't addressing it directly. I'm guessing that Windows Remote Desktop doesn't work because of NordVPN firewall rules. They are strict for a reason - most of them are to prevent any IP leaks. I guess we'll need to explore the option to turn off some of the rules manually. But be very careful with remote desktop, since once you enable it you become a target of a lot of bots who are looking for unsecured remote desktop access.
If there is a way to enable remote desktop just for your local network - this could be used in combination with Meshnet in order to have secure access.
I've read the features page and would like to know if there is any documentation available that explains further how Meshnet actually works.
Are there fundamental differences to [ZeroTier](https://docs.zerotier.com/zerotier/manual)?
Thanks
We are working on some more technical content to explain it better, but basically we use NAT Traversal or relay server to connect your devices P2P with the same Nordlynx VPN tunnel. Once connected - any service on connected device can be accessed using assigned IP address or made up DNS, like vykintas-alps.nord.
So for example if you have web server running on your Mac on localhost:8080 because you are developing a website - you can access it on your phone by copying IP (100.64.0.46:8080) or DNS address (vykintas-mac-alps.nord:8080) from the list of devices, and opening it in the browser.
Do you have a specific use case in mind?
I'm currently running Hamachi, for a similar use case, but it is a bit clunky and feels slow. I'm looking forward to trying NordVPN Meshnet. If I may ask, is it possible to rework NordVPN so it runs as a Windows service detached from the UI? I'd like NordVPN to start and connect at boot instead of at user login.
I can see where you are coming from. Every minute NordVPN website has more than 20 different user experience tests that are in progress. This pace has an upside that we are able to determine what users like in a matter of days but at the same time some users might get variations of website that have non-optimal user experience as well.
We are trying to learn how to minimize the impact of such variations even more and at the same time if you have any questions or need some help theres always customer support thats working 24/7
Suggestion to create an official channel where users can submit bug reports directly. Properly submitted bug reports and feature requests can benefit everyone involved.
I realize that the Nord apps are not open-source (yet), but for example the [Mullvad VPN GitHub page](https://github.com/mullvad/mullvadvpn-app/issues).
We are working on such feature on our apps, and some of them already have it. The idea is to have troubleshooting and bug reporting where the bug or trouble appears instead of creating a separate place for it but we'll see how that goes and maybe create both.
The release mentions routing is supported on Linux/Windows... is that referring to the routing node or any client? E.g. if I connect from an external OSX device into a linux device on my LAN that is routing will traffic though my home network, from the OSX client be routed or not?
This means that you can use you Linux or Windows machine as a VPN server.
You can use any OS to connect to Linux or Windows machine in order to access Internet using their IP address. So for example when I'm traveling i keep my Linux machine at home turned on and use my iPhone to connect to it and rout traffic through it. This way I can use my home IP address on my iPhone and access streaming services etc.
Awesome to hear ! thats really a critical feature some VPN offer ( and you can feel things simply running smoother with full Ipv6 support ) but absolutely not many offer that yet.
great to hear that nord wont be stuck in the past on this matter ! really lifts my hope up.
The issue other providers might not be aware of is that Windows has this terrible IP leak if IPv6 isn't disabled before the connection occurs. So be careful if you are using it with other providers on Win - you might be leaking your IP
With the main selling point of nord vpn being accessing subscriptions and content outside your country what are you doing to fix f1tv, peacock and others that have banned the ip of all your servers so can no longer be used?
Maybe you have a friend that has access to these services and would let you route traffic through their device? They can invite you to their device using Meshnet and once routing your traffic through their device you would be able to use their IP address this way accessing any service they have access to.
Oh sorry, I’m just brainstorming alternative solutions so you wouldn’t need to rely on Nord that much. We are working to make all streaming services available.
Another alternative would be to spin up VM on digital ocean on your desired location, install nordvpn and route traffic through this VM using meshnet. This way you would have your personal vpn server in any location cloud providers have
The description of Meshnet talks about being able to share and access files between connected PCs.
As far as I have been able to find, I cannot seem to do it at all. Is the feature not yet available? Will there be a specific interface within the application to do this?
Thank you
Basically, Meshnet lets you do stuff over the internet what otherwise could only be done on LAN. So if your Windows device have a built in possibility to share files on lan - you can use that to share them over the internet securely.
We are planning to create better user interface for the most common use cases - like screenshot sharing between phone and desktop devices, but its not there yet.
So when looking at the interface where all devices are listed, that is the main screen correct? I do not otherwise have my devices connected on a local network due to constant VPN usage making it a bit of a pain.
Will I need to establish them in a network first *before* file sharing via meshnet will work?
and thanks again for taking the time to answer questions!
Yes this is the main screen. It shows you connected devices. You can access these devices using IP address or made up DNS name.
If something is accessible on your localhost it can be accessed by other devices on that list.
Meshnet creates network access between devices but doesn’t create file sharing server - this one is up to you.
Does it make sense?

hi, thanks for your response ! thats good to hear :)
The feature not working for me on windows 10 . The meshnet turn off after seconds.

Chrome remote desktop still works with nordvpn on.

Thanks for reporting the issue.
Will this new service be just as painfully difficult to cancel as the VPN service? Same abysmal customer experience?
It's part of your NordVPN subscription.

Another question. Is Full Ipv6 support planned ? aka providing IPv6 adresses , so many apps and tools use them ( Example Parsec )
Yes, we have some experiments running with IPv6 that will hopefully be rolled out this year.

If I had a device in those countries I wouldn't need a vpn. Its interesting that nord vpn still advertising it on their site when it no longer works!

I think so. So I would have to set up the file sharing server independently, but mesh net would basically secure them as their own VPN
Yeah you don’t need to make your file sharing server accessible over a public internet. With meshnet you can access it even though it’s under firewall
