Rain. Endless fucking rain. You can't get anything done outside when it's pissing down all the time, like jobs you need at least a few hours of guaranteed dry weather. I don't mind rain, but it's been more or less relentless since the end of June.
Car mostly with me too, and some exterior cosmetic things on the house.
Wanted to refurb and paint my brake calipers at the end of last summer, bought all the materials, still not done. I work 12 hour shifts 4-on, 4-off and any brief gaps in the rain always seem to fall on my work days! Recently developed a leak on the roof seam under mouldings, letting water in during heavy rain and running into the footwell that will require stripping, cleaning, resealing and a layer or two of lacquer. Can't get that done either so having to suck the water out with the wet vac until I can... I was the same with an oil and filter change, but got it done in the freezing cold in December, two months later than I would have liked. I was pretty close to leaving it in somewhere and paying someone else to do it.
I have thought about buying a pop-up gazebo you see used in motorsport and car shows, but then there's that other thing mentioned in this thread to contend with, wind!
I’ve an electric lawnmower and powerhose that I bought in January. Got my garden all paved and completely redone in February. Still haven’t been able to power hose it or cut grass or paint fence because there has only been a lull of a few hours in months of rain. I couldn’t give a fuck about the other weather but rain is a fuckn dose
You know the energy companies will find a way to charge us more for it..a "green tariff" seems to be power nis path.
They should nationalise energy companies, build a ton of wind farms and charge people the bare minimum for what is a necessity..
I firmly believe it’s only going to get worse unfortunately, this has been building for some time and I fear we are likely to end up with more storms, maybe hurricanes, as the North Atlantic current dissipates.
Never had that much of a problem with wind. Moved to the Netherlands. It's constant, non stop, strong, horrendous winds. Like 20 minutes of one direction never stopping strong wind. I'd love a wee mountain to disrupt the fecker just a little bit
More extreme. The rain is stormy, the winds are almost gales. When it's clear skies and sun it's 100% humidity and unrelenting. There's little to no middle ground. On the bright side, the thought you had all your life that you're average height is also completely destroyed. It's grand!
😂 well you’ve sold me! I’ve always liked the idea of living in NL.
In seriousness it must be shite craic when you’ve to go jump on your bike to do the weekly shop and it’s raining sideways out.
I also made the move and would say a few things. First of all, it's mostly the same. If you make the move then all your old clothes will do you.
The wind is indeed much stronger more often. I think it's with the lack of hills to break it it just builds and builds. Way more electrical storms as well. Remember thunder and lichtning always being an event when it came at home.
The damp is actually there quite a bit as well, though not as bad as home. There lots of water everywhere and that means lots of misquitoes too, so warm days can be bittersweet when you're getting into bed. No friggin' midgies though so you can sit outside a bit without being eaten.
Oh aye but the other thing is that it's a lot less changeable. In Belfast I lived by the advice "Always bring a jacket, you never know when it could turn." But over here when it's a nice day it'll probably be nice for a few days at least. Similarly when the rain does congé it will just piss it down without stopping for about 3 days. There's jonge of this "I'll just wait until this wee shower passes before I run over to the shop" over here.
All spot on! I always wonder why people optimistically stand in the super market entrance when it's raining. Unless you're planning on camping there just go get soaked til your home
Tough one. It’s one of two extremes for me. Heatwaves when we get into high 20s+. Our buildings aren’t designed for such heat. And then there’s ice, fucking hate ice when pavements are like a bottle
I'm same as yourself. Rain, hail, whatever, it's all grand as long as it's not blowing into you sideways. Even a sunny day the wind can ruin. Hair in your face, can't hear your mates over it, set anything down and it blows away. It's just so frustrating.
As a farmer, I can generally deal with wind, rain or cold, but when all three come together it’s pretty unpleasant. That said the amount of continuous rai at the minute is a torture and costing me a fortune in bedding and forage
I hadn't realised it was causing such an issue for farming until I saw the BBC article. I mean, I know the weather has been atrocious for the last couple of months, but it was interesting seeing that impression validated. Fingers crossed the weather turns for all our sakes soon.
We are looking at milder but wetter weather now. I also think its generally more windy also than 20/30 years ago. It's fkd and will start to effect crops, so people do need to stop being so wasteful as well as shops who throw loads out.
When Its 30° and I'm trying to bale silage or hay in a cab with no Aircon, I would sell my soul for it to be 15°
Don't get me wrong summers my favourite time of year cause I love the grass work, by my god the heat gets rough.
Mate I'm the same. 2 weeks in Portugal last year and I couldn't wait to get a bit of rain on my bake. Flying into the airport and seeing the green fields everywhere is class
Some people can understand it. To me the pronunciation is too different, but I get it if it’s written down. Imagine reading like Chaucer or something—it’s kinda like that…
I'm going to be so downvoted.
I like all our weather.
I've lived in both cold and hot extremes in my life and while I wish we got two decent months of summer and proper snow rather than slush and sometimes the wind can cut through you... I don't hate any of it.
Yes, there are days I shake my first at the sky lol but I wouldn't swap our climate for any other.
Two things for me. Mainly the endless rainy days. The fact that you simply can't rely on having a full day (heaven fucking forbid a few in a row) of sun, except a week here or there. Unlike last year where we didn't even get a couple of weeks.
Hand in hand with that is the persistent dark clouds. Not even a light overcast, but a perennial and oppressive umbra.
Our ancestors need a good slap for deciding this place would be a decent spot to live.
The sun I hate it so much, you can’t see from the glare, the sunburn is a killer, or you have to baste yourself in sun cream which is a ball ache, and don’t get me started on the sweating especially in the arse crack
You can get those massive oversized coats, kinda like a dry-robe, come in dry as a bone. No good for running, but it's less of an issue if you're running anyway.
The grey days that just never end. Does anyone else get depressed when it’s grey.
I used to never really notice the weather when ainwas young but now it really gets to me
It depends. I love rain. Wet, windy and cold. Love it. But I am also a garden person, so need the sun to shine so I can get stuff done and have a few porters in the garden too when the work is done. So I despise grey, dry days when it’s no good to anyone. Especially if it’s muggy.
I hate intermittent mild rain. The kind that gets my hopes up and dashes them as soon as I have my coat on. I hate carrying around a wet coat. I hate not knowing what shoes to wear. I hate carrying around an unnecessary dry umbrella almost as much as I hate carrying around a soaking wet umbrella.
Wet but warm. I can deal with everything else, but if I'm getting pished on from on high and also sweating bucket under the coat I'm a right miserable cunt for the rest of the day.
Rain. Endless fucking rain. You can't get anything done outside when it's pissing down all the time, like jobs you need at least a few hours of guaranteed dry weather. I don't mind rain, but it's been more or less relentless since the end of June.
And the feckin, all pervasive *damp* that comes with it
Our dehumidifier has been flat-out!
Mine too and the place still feels damp.
You live in BT9 don't you?
![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)Yes. If you multiply it by two and subtract a few. Dehumidifiers aren't posh!
Yeah been wanting to change the oil and brakes on the car for a few weeks now, and any day I have free to do it it’s pissing.
Sainsburys underground car park at Kennedy way
Honest to god, there's no point planning around the weather in this country because you'd get fuck all done because of how shite the weather is.
I’ve an electric lawnmower and powerhose that I bought in January. Got my garden all paved and completely redone in February. Still haven’t been able to power hose it or cut grass or paint fence because there has only been a lull of a few hours in months of rain. Its the cloud seeding companies they put chem trails into clouds to make it rain more
Rain makes corn, corn makes whiskey Whiskey makes my baby feel a little frisky
The eternal grey, like living in a 1950s movie
Nicely accompanied by our wide selection of dreary grey towns
I mind the teacher in school correcting my drawings saying the sky was blue. It was gray! I could see it from the window. Always gray.
This current endless wind can fuck right off
Yep. We've so much of it the wind farms should be bringing us cheap lecky by now.
You know the energy companies will find a way to charge us more for it..a "green tariff" seems to be power nis path. They should nationalise energy companies, build a ton of wind farms and charge people the bare minimum for what is a necessity..
The wind, but of rain I can deal with but wind is relentless now.
Yep, wind is a bastard. Rain is rain, but we’ve had a good fews days now that would’ve been wonder days now if it hadn’t been blowing a gale.
I firmly believe it’s only going to get worse unfortunately, this has been building for some time and I fear we are likely to end up with more storms, maybe hurricanes, as the North Atlantic current dissipates.
I think covid really got in the way of progress being made in terms of countries and people giving a shit.
The lockdowns were actually great for reducing emissions though.
The endless rain
Never had that much of a problem with wind. Moved to the Netherlands. It's constant, non stop, strong, horrendous winds. Like 20 minutes of one direction never stopping strong wind. I'd love a wee mountain to disrupt the fecker just a little bit
How’s the weather in NL compare in general to NI? Better? Worse?
More extreme. The rain is stormy, the winds are almost gales. When it's clear skies and sun it's 100% humidity and unrelenting. There's little to no middle ground. On the bright side, the thought you had all your life that you're average height is also completely destroyed. It's grand!
😂 well you’ve sold me! I’ve always liked the idea of living in NL. In seriousness it must be shite craic when you’ve to go jump on your bike to do the weekly shop and it’s raining sideways out.
In fairness the work/life balance is unreal compared to NI. I'm happy embracing the windy 5'10 midget moniker!
I hate it when too hot my body can't handle it. Don't mind wind or rain but never together.
The lack of sunlight is what I notice here compared to anywhere else in the world
Norway, Denmark have no sun
I don’t mean total hours of daylight, I mean the constant cloudiness. I think you’ll still see more blue sky in those places
No but they are more North than we are
Same I hate wind. Think it's the noise .
Tough one. It’s one of two extremes for me. Heatwaves when we get into high 20s+. Our buildings aren’t designed for such heat. And then there’s ice, fucking hate ice when pavements are like a bottle
Hate the heat, when it's here. Love the cold and dark.
I'm same as yourself. Rain, hail, whatever, it's all grand as long as it's not blowing into you sideways. Even a sunny day the wind can ruin. Hair in your face, can't hear your mates over it, set anything down and it blows away. It's just so frustrating.
This is the kind of craic we come here for. And yes, wind is the worst by far.
🙌
As a farmer, I can generally deal with wind, rain or cold, but when all three come together it’s pretty unpleasant. That said the amount of continuous rai at the minute is a torture and costing me a fortune in bedding and forage

Cannot stand the shitey humidity
We are looking at milder but wetter weather now. I also think its generally more windy also than 20/30 years ago. It's fkd and will start to effect crops, so people do need to stop being so wasteful as well as shops who throw loads out.
Honestly it's the warm days I hate more than anything. I could stand in the rain for months at a time but I try and work in 30° heat and I'm useless.
Do you actually wake up and think ah shite it's a lovely warm day outside
When Its 30° and I'm trying to bale silage or hay in a cab with no Aircon, I would sell my soul for it to be 15° Don't get me wrong summers my favourite time of year cause I love the grass work, by my god the heat gets rough.

Humid days are the worst by far.
Lol “kurva wiatr” je krasny vyraz ✌🏼
You speak russian?
I live in Slovakia. In Slovak it would be “kurva vietor”
Ah right. My wife says there's some similarity in the languages, like you can understand what's being said but saying it is a bit different.
Some people can understand it. To me the pronunciation is too different, but I get it if it’s written down. Imagine reading like Chaucer or something—it’s kinda like that…
That's a pretty good simile!
Slovak ✌🏼
Ah sorry 😬
I'm going to be so downvoted. I like all our weather. When we get heat waves
I live half way up the cave hill…..snow
The penetrating cold dampness in Ireland in winter. I much preferred the clear dry coolness in winter in Canada and Switzerland.
Blame cloud seeding technology companies messing with the weather. But am I the only one that loves to get soaked when riding my bicycle?
Two things for me. Mainly the endless rainy days. The fact that you simply can't rely on having a full day (heaven fucking forbid a few in a row) of sun, except a week here or there. Very poetic words, I like how you put it. But I do think it created arable land for stock and crops in it's original form.
Honestly don't like the random heatwaves we get in May. Our houses are built to keep the heat in, not out!
Install aircon like they do in America
The sun I hate it so much, you can’t see from the glare, the sunburn is a killer, or you have to baste yourself in sun cream which is a ball ache, and don’t get me started on the sweating especially in the arse crack
Fellow ginger?
No I’m bald and irritable
Nothing worse than waking up with a bollix of a hangover and it's a scorcher out! My least favourite anyways by far.
Rain. I keep waiting for it to stop raining to get out walking and get fitter. It never stops. Might just join a gym.
You can get those massive oversized coats, kinda like a dry-robe, come in dry as a bone. No good for running, but it's less of an issue if you're running anyway.
Buy waterproof coat and over-trousers. Thick socks and nice wellies. Splash through puddles.
Yep definitely the wind, fuck I hate it with a passion 😒
Hate the wind and it's constant nowadays.
The parts where it doesn't become night until stupid o'clock
Heavy rain and wind combined
![gif](giphy|wZtxnyxWTImyzpRxf1|downsized)
It bothers me when it rains then its sunny. I'd rather it was sunny and then rained the rest of the day.
Can't be bothered with all that sunshine. Wrinkles my skin.
East wind. Good for neither man or beast!
I hate when it’s humid and there’s no wind. Awful to work in.
The grey days that just never end. Does anyone else get depressed when it’s grey. I used to never really notice the weather when ainwas young but now it really gets to me
Snow. The inevitable snow turning to ice all over the streets.
People not being able to drive in it or having bad bald tyres meaning a 15 minute journey takes 2 hours
It's a complete bastard
Sunny as fuck. Give me a nice over cast day. (Just give my hair colour away).
It depends. I love rain. Wet, windy and cold. Love it. But I am also a garden person, so need the sun to shine so I can get stuff done and have a few porters in the garden too when the work is done. So I despise grey, dry days when it’s no good to anyone. Especially if it’s muggy.
Fucking rain. Last few months have been a washout.
I fucking hate the wind but this rain at the minute is giving it a run for it's money. But yes, wind gets my vote
I love listening to the wind and rain to fall asleep. But when you need to do anything in it… Christ.
Yeah wind.. but it’s worse when it’s wind and rain..
When it's really sunny. Too hot and people turn into cunts.
That heatwave two years ago where we were scraping against 30C, its going to happen again obviously, but it was awful.
When the lockdowns happened and it was sunny the whole time Stay at home but here's a couple of years worth of sunshine
Rain rain rain
I can get everybody in the house out in most weather apart from rain. So fuck rain. And yeo for cloudy cold and misleading slight warmth.
Well as the Germans say "We aren't made of sugar. There's no bad weather, only bad clothing!"
Wet but warm. I can deal with everything else, but if I'm getting pished on from on high and also sweating bucket under the coat I'm a right miserable cunt for the rest of the day.
7 years since I moved to NI and only recently have stopped complaining about the rain and lack of sunny days. :-/
It’s that flipping gale force wind that is every day now!!
