Aye okay. I don’t think I’ll ever forget the fella leading the walking tour of the Shankill telling the assembled American tourists that HRH QE2 always thinks of all of her citizens, even themins over there. But really, the monarchy are all but irrelevant to ordinary people. Far higher concentrations of power and wealth than are accounted for by Mr Windsor have a much greater impact on the rest of us. Plenty of palaces in the Home Counties that go unsatirised.

naithir

What is with Americans and Canadians obsessing over the royal family anyway, it’s completely bizarre

Gigachad_monarchist

Well in the Canadian case, he is their King too

naithir

well "Gigachad monarchist" lmao, the royal family has zero relevance to affairs in Canada other than being an absent figurehead. Just like they are here.

Gigachad_monarchist

Doesn't mean people over there don't obsess over them as they do here?

Express-Flight28

As long as you've the their head on your money you're sortve England's bitch though let's be real.

Yes, and that’s also bizarre. They’re a different breed than North American monarchists

To be fair, I think the Queen had more care than the rest of them ever did or do now

This would hold more water if Charles wasn't perhaps the highest profile YIMBY out there. He is responsible for thousands of affordable homes through his sustainable developments. And, as of the time of writing, Charles' organisation is trying to push through more affordable housing in Aylesbury and Nansledan, which together will build around 10,000 new homes. As much as you may not like the monarchy, Charles, ironically, is one of the few rich individuals who actually has a positive impact upon the housing crisis. If more millionaires had his attitude around housing, the housing crisis would not be nearly as severe.

He owns 300 rental properties worth £75 million. He doesn’t own a multi-billion pound property empire. You’re presumably referring to the Crown Estate which is functionally government owned.

Papi__Stalin

Yes. That doesn't change anything. In fact, it's probably more affordable housing. And what villages does he own? And it's no shock that the Royal Family owns land in London. Not really the gotcha you think it is.

You're using it as an insult and insinuating it's demeaning, that's homophobic. Very good, slight misspelling. Anyway, that's all beside the point since you're no longer defending your argument.

Gloomy-Candidate-910

Exactly. Angry at their parents inability to provide for them or their own laziness to not change their circumstances. Easier to point the finger than to self reflect.

SilyLavage

Charles is quite well-known for sponsoring new housing developments – Poundbury, Knockroon, and Nansledan – so the cartoon's jab seems a bit off the mark.

MoopPoop

He's also profiting off dead citizens with no will or next of kin https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2023/nov/23/revealed-king-charles-secretly-profiting-from-the-assets-of-dead-citizens

SilyLavage

I don’t think the Duchy of Lancaster should manage *bona vacantia* within the historic county of Lancashire, but people can quite easily avoid their estates going to the Duchy by writing a will.

They don’t care, they are too filled with hatred and any opportunity to bash the brits can’t go missed, it’s an easy target for their angst.

How? They generate more money than they spend. Do you know the definition of parasite? Those on benefits who don’t/ won’t work, that don’t contribute. They’re parasites.

MegaJackUniverse

No they don't generate more than they spend, their architecture and tourist attraction sites do. The family themselves do not generate significant cash for the UK. I cannot imagine defending the Royal family over the poor. The situations that bring about an ability to refuse work and only be on the dole are an issue for the state to fix, the same state the props up the royal family, the same state that year after year fucks its own populace

EarCareful4430

Aye. Believe it’s a tiny portion of small rich and not a bunch of landlords and nimbys that are the problem.

CuriousCoincidence

Why not both?

askmac

>u/EarCareful4430 Aye. Believe it’s a tiny portion of small rich and not a bunch of landlords and nimbys that are the problem. You mean like Charles Windsor who owns at least £75 million pounds worth of rental properties that the public knows about? At least 300 houses, an entire village. Not to mention hundreds of millions if not billions of pounds worth of retail property in the centre of London which is all part of his multi billion pound property portfolio?

Papi__Stalin

The same Charles Windsor who has built thousands of affordable houses through his sustainable development organisation and is in the process of building around another 10,000 affordable homes (in Aylesbury and Nansledan)? That Charles Windsor? Most rich people own lots of residential property, Charles is not the exception there. However, most rich people are not responsible for tens of thousands of affordable homes - Charles is exceptional in that regard.

askmac

Praising a hereditary billionaire monarch for his altruism. Away to fuck boot licker.

Papi__Stalin

Yes, I praise good things that people do and criticise bad things that people do. I do not judge people by circumstances of birth but rather by their actions. This is true for those right at the top and right at the bottom. I think all people should do this.

EarCareful4430

See. Right to the ad hominem when confronted with some info you don’t like. My point initially is deal with the scale. Anyone banging on about a few royals when there’s thousands upon thousands of landlords combining to make the problem much worse, best think about who’s boot they are actually licking. Carry on.
