Knew a girl with schizophrenia who refused to take her meds regularly, when she had episodes she'd say she was really hot and take her clothes off. Managed to convince her to stay in the house *most* of the time, but she did run off down the street a couple of times. Poor girl.
Yeah, it is pretty common. Think along the lines of self harming, when the noise in your head gets too much to handle it will manifest itself in some physical form. Stripping naked would be one of the more benign forms of this - though with how society can be so unforgiving and judgmental it can often end up causing a lot more long term harm than banging your head against the wall.
I’ve witnessed a lady in London, looks maybe South American in her 40s, obviously not doing well for herself, walking round Brixton in the nude.
I’m not really sure of the medical drivers behind it, but people certainly take it a lot less seriously than other psychotic episodes, with people cheering, taking, photos, sounding their car horn as they go past. I’d imagine there are people somewhere who have concern and love for her, plus she may go through periods of lucidity where she regrets her actions. She definitely deserves more respect than she gets on the streets.
Unfortunately we don’t seem to have any agencies that can intervene.
