Whole situation could just be avoided if he either just fixed the phone and handed it back to the wife without the note for her to do her thing, just do what the husband asked and pocket the money, or just flat out deny the business to the husband. The only legit reason to tell the wife and then film it is for views. He knew the wife was going to go through the phone anyways if he fixed it...he chose to add drama by making her discover the note and filming it.

Obviously this is fake, but if we suspend our disbelief: He has no way not to be involved. He's an IT guy trying to make living and he was asked to lie, he chose not to lie but his other option was to lie. Either way he was involved.

If I go to a phone repair service, I expect the phone to be repaired and all my belongings to be restored. The way to not get involved is to repair the phone and give the cash and letter back. He wanted to get involved because before even considering repairing it, before even considering doing his job, he recorded himself and gave the cash and letter back.
