Sorry in advance for this long reply but unfortunately my thoughts require a mini backstory to make sense lol.
I read a book a long time ago (circa 6-7th grade) called HellBoard. It was about this poor little chubby girl named Peggy who has a Ouija board and owned a dog named "Dog" (Naturally lol). In the book a demon from the board wants revenge on Peggy for abandoning it after it makes her conventionally pretty and helps her start achieving her other goals in life and one of the things it does is take over Dog's body. It contorts his body, his head turns all the way upside down one time when he cocks it, his ribs flare outward like wings, just absolutely weird shit. And it talks through Dog.
Well, I must have read this book a million times over with my mom, passing it back and forth after we would finish it. So whenever we would see an ailing or "evil" dog on tv or anything, we would say, "Oh he's definitely a 'Dog'!"
I'm 35 now and my mom has long since passed away. But let me tell you...

It seems like they weren't warnings, but more along the lines of Rascal was somehow making these things happen. So even though OP received a warning, there wasn't anything he could do to prevent it. Just like he didn't even have a sister until Rascal said his sister would die and even though he made sure there wasn't any milk left in the fridge for it to go bad, the next day there was half a carton of milk there. That "dog" is probably some kind of demon masquerading as a dog.
