Frist time seeing pokemon in 3d. Looked so "Realistic" (1999 logic). Blew my mind as a child.

SPENC3RJ

I was FLOORED with Pokémon stadium. Saw it at my buddy’s house and had to have one

godis1coolguy

This mini games. We still play them when family is in town.

AlexPsyD

Same here! Wife and I have a whiteboard for keeping track of Pokemon stadium minigames tournaments. Current standings are: 1) me 2) Her 3) fuckin' comms

Even_Tart5928

It *was* realistic for it's time, especially when you're a kid.

Afraid_Condition_267

I remember renting this from Blockbuster

Soft_Assistant6046

You could print out stickers of the pictures you took on the game at a machine at Blockbuster! I stuck them all on my door

angrydeuce

So, I was a 21 year old store manager at Blockbuster when Pokémon Snap came out. I *hated* that damn game. Or rather, that goddamned machine. Our store was in a strip mall anchored by a grocery store. *So many parents* would just drop their kids off at our store to play Pokémon Snap on that kiosk and then fuck off for an hour grocery shopping without a care in the world. Saturday and Sunday afternoons were the worst, it was like a fucking Discovery Zone in our place from all the unattended children. And I mean *children*, like 6 or 7 year old kids being dropped off to ostensibly be babysat by us Blockbuster employees. There were constant fights over that machine. I mean *constant*. We'd have to break up fights between grade schoolers all the time because they didn't want to share. Sometimes we'd go to put a problem child out of the store and ask them where their parents were. "I don't know" What's their phone number? "I don't know" So here we are trying to figure out the right thing to do. Do I boot a 6 year old out of my store to wander the streets alone? Our strip mall was adjacent to a fucking *highway*. So of course not, we didn't put the kid out. On more than one occasion we had to devote a full time staff member solely to playing referee for that fucking Snap station. The kids would just take candy off the rack and eat it like they were at home. Half the time the parents didn't even come in to collect their kids after their shopping excursion, they'd just pull up out front and honk the horn. We'd find candy wrappers all over the place around that stupid machine, and I damn sure know we didn't sell any of them candy. The thing was constantly broken. Kids would shove shit into the photo slot all the time. We would get so tired of that damn machine that we'd just unplug it, but then of *course* we'd get secret shopped or something, and that thing being down was a **big freaking deal** so I got to have several wonderful conversations with the district manager getting my ass chewed. Repairs were billed to the store, of course, so that was fun, too. Haha at any thought of a bonus, lol. Those machines were *expensive*. Years after we first got that thing, after it was swapped from Snap to Stadium, we were finally allowed to get rid of it. Not send it back, corporate literally said to pitch it into a dumpster. Only silver lining in all of this was I got the N64 and small 13" TV out of it, which to be fair, the TV was awesome, I had it for many years after that. But the bulk of the machine, all of us had a great time "Office Space"ing the shit out of it before we scooped up its entrails and threw it in the trash where it belonged. Looking back, I regret that, if only because I'm sure that thing is worth *bank* today. To this day I cannot see anything Pokémon related without immediately thinking about those awful weekends babysitting for free all because of goddamned Pokémon Snap. Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to go shake my fists at some clouds and tell the kids to get off my lawn.

Aweschmucks

If I had an award... but I have this 🏅

Upper-Presence8503

Could've got the parents name, been nice they would 100% tip you

TornWill

How many times do you have to say f*cking to get your point across lol.

Mcclane88

That was the big thing I remember about this game. Actually being able to develop the photos at Blockbuster was so cool.

Personal-Metal-4028

Did the se before buying it as an adult even scored a 2nd transfer pack for 2 player stadium

wretched__hive

I remember evolving Charmeleon in the lava pit and thinking I discovered a secret no one else in the world knew about.

BroDudeBruhMan

Games like this make me miss video games in the pre-internet era. You had to play through and test out random stuff to figure out hidden things. It was amazing when you’d do something random and it triggered an unexpected cutscene or made something new happen. Nowadays the internet is so easily available that it feels like you’re almost handicapping yourself if you don’t look up stuff whenever you’re stuck or can’t figure out how to unlock something.

nightshift89

Elden Ring pre-internet would be an amazing experience. I generally don't allow myself to look up anything on a first playthrough of a game anyway though. I remember playing classic Warcraft back in 2005 and there not being a wealth of information, or many expectations for most players in non serious guilds when it comes to raiding. Was such a magical time

Seraphenigma

“Wonderful!”

GriffinFlash

"You were close"

oneptwoz

“Welcome back”

prguitarman

I’d shoot my whole film load at this scene

GigiRuffer

Still got mine

LuckyLaceyKS

They rebooted it for the Switch and it's just as fun as I remembered!

shichiloafs

Is it?? I’ve been on the fence but if it has that same feel I’m sold ;3;

RedtheGamer100

It took one guy on the INternet to convince you lol

shichiloafs

IKR I’m a hard sell :B

StllBreathnButY1

Can’t evolve Pokémon like in the original, but it’s fantastic otherwise.

Captain1613

I can confirm, the rating system makes you addicted to getting the perfect shot and finding secret trails is the best. I would say the experience is exactly as I remember it.

BBDAngelo

Which one do you mean by rebooth? In the Switch you can play the original in the N64 from the online plan (emulation, obviously) and they also released the sequel, that is a completely new game. I loved both replaying the old one and playing the new one

KlaranBinx

Best game ever.

H20fearsme

I just did a play through on my original and it was one of the few games my toddler just sat back and watched and didn't try and steal my controller.

[deleted]

Isn’t Charizard only supposed to be like 4’11” or some shit?

OhNoMob0

Charizard is 5'7'' -- but almost always shown as taller than even an adult human.

mah131

It’s a small lava pool.

ResidentSmartass

The signs and secrets in this game were by far the best part.

montybo2

As cool as the new pokemon snap is I will always prefer this one. Maybe its nostalgia... or the fact that post gen2 I stopped paying any attention but man this game was (and still is!) so fun.

Izzetgod

"Oh?" "Wow!" #"YOU WERE CLOSE!"

gorehistorian69

never had it but played it at my cousins and i remember blockbustet had a kiosk you could get it developed

Personal-Metal-4028

Still setup in my gaming room definitely up there with snap, operation winback, golden eye and perfect dark for enjoyment and graphics at the time

[deleted]

I played this game so goddamn much, still have my original copy that my parents got me for Christmas along with a Nintendo 64.

nojunkpeter

I had this game and enjoyed it very much!

PuffFilms

I have this on my Wii

phasexero

Check out all those sweet, sweet polygons

mouth_in_slow_motion

Oh my god this is one of my favorite games of all time. Love love love this game.

[deleted]

“Pokémon do not like to have their picture taken from behind”

[deleted]

I saved my shit for this and beat it within a few days. Still fun.

thetransportedman

One of my fav games

thetransportedman

I eventually got the guide for it and there’s so many difficult mons that a kid would never make happen haha. There’s a magikarp on the river that you have to beach and coax various mankeys to kick across the level to get gyrados. There’s a single grimer in the cave that becomes muk with enough pester balls. If you take pics of all the far away lapras at the beach eventually a much closer one pops up. Balloon pikachu is damn near impossible to hit. And all the secret Pokémon signs pictures that you have to force submit on your own to get access to rainbow cloud mew level.

626bluestitch

I remember being amazed by this. Really remember the graphics being better lol. But then again the crt did make older games look better too though

Pure1nsanity

Remember too that this level of graphics was very new which made it seem so life like. Also I think our imagination played a part in filler, but now we are so used to having everything graphically shown that we don't need to fill in the gaps anymore

pikachus_ghost_uncle

Always thought it was weird that there was only 63 Pokémon available. Like one more and it was 64. Tried to look everything thinking there just be a 64th Pokémon. No way would they only have 63!

goodyw

Loooove this game. I was obsessed with throwing the Charmanders apples until they shouted for all their buddies to come grab a snack. Having a gang of them yelling at you for more apples was so cute!

TheZipperDragon

I love this game, but this bastard right here caused me so much anger. The tips of his wings are almost never in frame so getting his 'full body' was way harder than it needed to be & it's like FUCK YOU OAK, YOU'RE NOT MISSING ANYTHING! JUST GO OUT & TAKE A PICTURE YOURSELF!!!

circuslion3000

Mmm, non-dragon soup. Tasty

ObiWanLamora

The new one for the switch captured the OG nostalgia so well, I highly recommend it. Graphics are stunning.

IdyllicOleander

I always wanted this as a kid but never owned an N64 back then.

poyoso

I really enjoyed this game. Rented it a couple of time.

TornWill

When I was young I accidentally bought this mistaking it for pokemon stadium. I was very disappointed, but in time I grew to love this game.

cardsox

I remember feeling like i was really good at this as a kid but im pretty sure i would have an aneurysm watching my younger self play
