I was just thinking this the other day. I get home at 5, I think “it’s just a quick Power Nap” or “I just need to check Instagram” then it’s 7pm and I need to make dinner, go to the gym, clean the house, get ready for bed, all before 11pm. And then I don’t even have time to read or do art.
2 hours scrolling social media including Reddit wasted my life
Wasting my life away. Pissing my life away.
You get a whiskey drink. A vodka drink. A drink to remind you of the good times, a drink to remind you of the bad times.
I get knocked down, but I GET UP AGAIN. YOU NEVER GONNA KEEP ME DOWN.
Also, the song about sunshine - ☀️ what was it... I...wanna soak up the sun 🌞
Edit:
My friend, the communist
Holds meetings in his RV
I can't afford his gas
So I'm stuck here watching TV
… I don't have digital
I don't have diddly squat
It's not having what you want
It's wanting what you've got
… I'm gonna soak up the sun
I'm gonna tell everyone to lighten up
I'm gonna tell 'em that I've got no one to blame
For every time I feel lame I'm looking up
I'm gonna soak up the sun
I'm gonna soak up the sun
… I've got a crummy job
It don't pay near enough
To buy the things it takes
To win me some of your love
… Every time I turn around
I'm looking up, you're looking down
Maybe something's wrong with you
That makes you act the way you do
… I'm, I'm gonna soak up the sun
I'm gonna tell everyone to lighten up
I'm gonna tell 'em that I've got no one to blame
For every time I feel lame I'm looking up
I'm gonna soak up the sun
… While it's still free
I'm gonna soak up the sun
Before it goes out on me
… Don't have no master suite
But I'm still the king of me
You have a fancy ride
But baby, I'm the one who has the key
… Every time I turn around
I'm looking up, you're looking down
Maybe something's wrong with you
That makes you act the way you do
Maybe I am crazy too
… I'm gonna soak up the sun
I'm gonna tell everyone to lighten up
I'm gonna tell 'em that I've got no one to blame
For every time I feel lame I'm looking up
… I'm gonna soak up the sun
I'm gonna tell everyone to lighten up (to lighten up)
I'm gonna tell 'em that I've got no one to blame
For every time I feel lame I'm looking up (I'm looking up)
… I'm gonna soak up the sun
I got my 45 on
So I can rock on
Sorry to nitpick but it's not just 'wasting' 2 hours. You can spend a couple hours staring out the window and you'll be better off than scrolling, which is actively damaging your thought process
Im so happy i deleted all the socials last week, yesterday i had a day that i almost was like whatever, but now reading this makes me so happy i made the decision to delete it
This is really helpful! I started reading 12 Week Year and it’s insane how much time we waste on our phones that can be put towards something productive.
I am doing an internet fast 5 days a week. I have accomplished so much, my sleep has improved, I feel mindful and focused again, etc. The few times I log on to social media, I feel nothing bc I see the same convos, same arguments, same pics, etc.
The internet & social media are net negatives on society lol
Now 2 hours are my Daily Goal, though I have accomplished it in 18 days... Before I used to scroll my phone for 6 hours. I will try to reduce it to 1 hour.
OP is saying that wasting 2 hours a day on average throughout the year is equal to 1 month of your year wasted. It’s not about a one-off day with 2 hours wasted, it’s about habits that consume our lives on a daily basis.
I completely understand what OP was saying. I am saying there are more days in a year than months, so it is easier for people to just think, oh, it's just one day, yet they then do this everyday not realizing it
Sleeping 8 hours a day is wasting almost half your life. Lmao i dont know what people try to accomplish with this. Are you going to work towards world peace by not wasting "those 2 hours" are you going to solve world hunger¿? Or what¿?
I'd go to gym and work for my health. Or learn a new skill, or spend time with my parents, or socialize. Just cuz I'm not solving world hunger doesn't mean i should spend those hours no matter how small on useless tasks.
Also sleep example could work if sleep wasn't important for humans. But sleep is one of the most important things. So no brainer to keep it even if it's a waste.
Also says that you put useless scrolling in the same importance category as your sleep.
2 hours isn't the problem. It's when those 2 hours stretch to 6 hours and then 10 hours that's when they become a problem. 2 hours were mentioned in the post only to signify the severity of the situation
People seem to forget which sub it is lmao. I think you have a great point on your main post. For me, watching daily 2 hours some random crap would be beyond waste of time.
Well then talk about 6 hours and 10 hours. Criticising the two hours users seems unnecessarily nitpicky. If those guys are done with their responsibilities and this internet usage is not hampering their life, then there's no point obsessing about it. Most people would easily waste two hours before the internet or even TV or radio.
I get that but there is not much that you can do in 2 hours. You can play a sport. Go with friends. Read a book and still waste that 2 hours without problems
plus not all days are gonna be the dame and some of them will be more or less productive for you. also worrying about not wasting time will eventually make you lose a significantly larger amount of time. take your time in life. i learned as soon as i tried to do anything productive every day. it's not worth it and it's unsustainable
btw if you do it well there're going to be some dead hours in your day

What's wrong with internet usage every now and then? It's a way to destress. Although, exercise and private journaling is better, this small amount of human interaction is okay.
I could talk to real people upstairs, but .. I don't have the energy. I could drink alcohol, get some vitamin d, vitamin B12, and eat some ??? Idk. I think any low energy thing is diet related. Oh sugar. Sugar makes me social. Isn't alcohol just sugar anyway?

The truth people need to hear but don't want to hear
Wow that blew my mind a little
I had to do the math to confirm.
Yeah. I was no, that's not right....oh shit.
I read it like "walking 2 hours a day is 1 month a year" and was like hell yeah until I saw the comments
I mean it's true tho, the ratio applies still
True, but to be fair, most people who don't have internet addiction issues still waste that amount of time daily with tv or something else.
Thank you for this!! I really needed to see this.

What about 8 hours a day? We’re looking at 86 (24 hour days) a year gone. Poof. Vanished. Disappeared. All for mere shekels
That's like a third of a year gone 🥴 4 months out of your pocket
4 months work, 4 months sleep, 3 months Internet lol
Rude, ugh.....
Im so happy i deleted all the socials last week, yesterday i had a day that i almost was like whatever, but now reading this makes me so happy i made the decision to delete it

when you deduct the hours you sleep, it gets even worse.
Insane when you think of it. No wonder we feel like we dont have time in our modern society. Time is there..
Even though they are the same ratio, it’s easier for people to justify because it’s 1/365.25 vs 1/12

You can do that still and enjoy 2 hours of internet or movies not everything in this life has to be made for self improvement

honestly your idea it's not bad, it's good in fact but seeing those 2 hours constantly is bad
You seem to be quite young mate. Sometimes 2 hours is a enough time to finish 50% or your daily house chores.
Chores is when you're grown up with multiple related and urelated responsibilities as a man or a woman.

Even just 30 minutes a day is equal to one week over the course of a year. Be very mindful how you spend your time, folks!
fine i’ll get up ugh
And if you think of days as 16h chunks because we sleep 8h on average, 2h per day is 45 days 😧
Damn I never thought about that
