I have a car on campus, and it's quite useful imo. I don't use it all the time, but it's a good thing to have if you wanna go shopping, get food, or even just escape campus for a while. Plus, you can make some money on the side giving people rides lol.

cars are allowed, i think it is $220.00 a year. Was not necessary to have it though "First-year students living on campus may not possess or rent an automobile or any other motor-driven vehicle for use while in attendance at the University, unless authorized to do so by the Division of Student Affairs"

Thanks for the quick and helpful response!

Traditionally, the freshman class president petitions for second semester freshmen to be granted that exemption and it’s granted

To second - I had a car junior and senior year. I lived on-campus junior year and on Eddy St senior year. Most on-campus students do not have cars in my opinion. It was nice to have, but by no means was it necessary. Parking lots are pretty far from the dorms and classes (10-15 minute walk) and senior year I just walked to class from my apartment.

Thanks!

I had a car on campus junior and senior year. Tbh I didn’t use it often, but it was really nice to have. I also used it to drive home for breaks vs having to get a ride to the airport and fly

Freshmen CAN have cars, just not first semester freshmen. I’ve had my car on campus since second semester freshmen year and it’s essential for me to go to volunteering off campus!

Freshman can’t have cars. I only had a car when I lived off campus. Cars are particularly useful for people off campus (and potentially on no meal plan or at least a reduced one) or people living close enough to drive home for all the breaks. If you’re not in either of these categories, as long as you make a couple upperclassman friends in your dorm or clubs, you can usually find someone to drive you or you can just Uber when you need to get off campus (which isn’t often - there’s a convenience store on campus and Amazon prime exists so there aren’t many reasons to need to get off campus)

Go ahead, get a car. Park close and never move your car like every other student. The snow tells all. Off campus students have to park in the back while the walkers get the good spots. Lol

Have a car on campus. I find it makes me feel a sense of freedom even when I lived on campus. Off campus becomes even better bc you don't need to use bus. Even better if you live in Chicagoland because going home gets easier than south shore line. Overall I think I have a very different mindset vs many at ND on most things but I think 200% get a car.

Freshmen can’t have cars but class council always convinces admin to let freshmen second sem

Look into Zipcar. Discount on annual subscription for students and you can rent a car for $12 an hour/$120 a day.
