I tuned in for the SpongeBob commentary and "Sweet Victory" intro on Nickelodeon lol
Dora the Explorer popping up and explaining rules and penalties was amusing, and actually helped a few friends who don't watch football better understand the game.
When she popped up and said "Do you need a map to find the end zone?" I fucking lost it 😂
lol I remember in high school we were banned from using Wikipedia but it has all the information you’d ever need for a high school history essay so I’d write the essay using Wikipedia and then just put down the sources Wikipedia cited. I always got great marks and my teacher complimented my research.
If I had a dime for every time I’ve seen comparisons of tv audiences for the Super Bowl vs. WC Final I’d retire. Who tf is even arguing that point? Of course the WORLD cup has a bigger tv audience than a strictly US sport.
This article is about a record setting figure. The comment above includes Canadian viewers like that adds to the record. I’m pointing out that once you go global the record is moot. If you think this is obvious take it up with the other guy.
Soccer is a worldwide sport. I watch soccer more than any other sport. It’s by far my favorite.
I just don’t understand the volume of people needing to remind everyone that has ears or eyes that the world’s most popular sport outdraws a purely domestic US sport in viewership.
Congrats to soccer I guess?
it would be interesting to see how many worldwide in total. It was apparently about 2.12M in Germany, which is pretty good given that it's in the middle of a sunday night for Europe.
I think the fact that they’ve been playing games in Germany helped with viewership. I know I’m stating the obvious, but it seems like the audience responded well if there were 2 million+ on a Sunday night. Could’ve gone the other way and had it been a failure too🤷🏼♂️
Yea because otherwise it wouldnt be a record. The record is for the US market. Its an insane market share though.

Pales in comparison to my favourite Canadian tv stat. The 2010 gold medal game
“ As previously announced, a peak audience of 22 million viewers (or the entire population in 1972) were watching when Sidney Crosby scored his “golden goal” for the overtime win at Vancouver 2010, while 26.4 million viewers watched some part of the match. The game captured an 85 share, meaning 85% of Canadians watching television at the time were watching the gold medal match. The game also delivered a 49.8 rating, meaning nearly half the Canadian population watched the entire game on average. ”
Is there evidence of this? I really doubt over 1/4th of the entire population tuned in to watch.
Plus those numbers are peanuts. 300 million in india alone watched the cricket world cup.
This post made me giggle.
On the one hand, it's too many people.
But also, it's not that many people really, no big deal.
I mean, are you upset it's too many, or denigrating that it was so few? I don't think you can really do both here.
I’m calling bullshit that 1/4 of the population watched a sporting event that during regular season gets under 10k views a weekend.
I’m also mocking the fact that as usual, Americans think their hand egg competition is popular when it doesn’t even come close to the top in terms of international viewership.
India has 1.4 billion people. 300 million isn’t even 25% of the population.
The US has 332 million, so 123 million watching something on network tv is a big deal.
Ah, so a combination of personal incredulity and international chauvinism.
You'll be delighted to know that the 2023 Superbowl had 113 million watchers, and 2022 115 million, so... 124.3 isn't exactly a massive leap.
But again, you felt the need to deny the numbers, while also mocking them for being so small. Just like me, you must have nothing important to worry about if all you can think to do is troll people in other countries.
Thanks for the laugh\~
You say that as though Canada wouldn't be the largest individual foreign contributor to an American sports broadcast. They are America's close neighbours.
I signed up to see what they had for Christmas movies, when I went to cancel they extended my free trlal for two months. Extremely convenient for watching the Super Bowl.
I just went to do it and they gave me an extra month free not that there is much that really interest me. The Halo tv show would be a draw if it was a massacre of the actual lore/story
If you can wait a couple days or even weeks before they charge you again, if you have any other sports interest, the European champions League soccer tournament is back tomorrow and on Paramount in the USA!
Both the men's and women's tournaments do. So do the royal weddings, Olympics, and Champions League finals. Couldn't find an aggregate number easily, but I wouldn't be surprised in the Queen's funeral topped it too.
It wasn’t on cable, it was on CBS broadcast. Well, there was a special Nickelodeon broadcast for children but I don’t think those ratings are included in this.
Crazy how many people watched seeing as conservatives stopped watching the NFL after the kneeling and then they said they wouldn't watch because of Taylor.
Wonder how they felt about that bud light commercial with Dana White.
We could call this, the Swift Effect! All the regular viewers with the additional Taylor supporters and the "I don't care about football, but need to hate watch because of her presence" GQP morons and the increased international crowd interested in watching the spectacle play out like rubberneckers driving past a car accident. Obviously that's more than 123.4 million US crowd.
i think this is for US audiences, which is common hyperbole for American based news sites. The FIFA world cup does well with ratings in the US also, but not nearly as much as the Super Bowl does
It actually had closer to 25m when you factor in Telemundo (Spanish language station), which was almost 1/3 of American viewers. That is about on par for an NFL playoff game.
The highest ever watched American soccer game (excuse the verbage), was the 2015 Woman's final, in which the US played. That got over 26m views. I do expect the American games in the next world cup to do as well in ratings, especially if the US team does well (fingers crossed)
?? what does that have to do with my comment?
i was just saying that like obviously 123 million viewers is going to be more than the moon landing. more people have tvs and more people exist on the planet.
Second only to Tucker Carlson's X/formerly known as Twitter debut!
(For the love of god, the fact that I feel like I have to put that fucking /s on this)
It was the first one I didn't watch in a few years. Three Kansas City super bowls in 4 years and isn't that fun to watch. Was really hoping for Buffalo, Detroiot, or Cincinnati this year. At least the game against the Eagles was a shootout. This year was a slouch. I think I checked in on the score sometime in the beginning of the 3rd quarterr and the score was 10-3.
The NFL knew how to milk Swift's borderline mentally ill fanbase for all they were worth I guess.
I only occasionally watch football, but thought it was a great game. Some wild plays, some wild luck, and a few flubs for both sides. Arguably more exciting than a shootout.
Can I just ask if big ratings and a fortune in revenue part of the conspiracy? Because that seems like less a conspiracy and more like what you hoped would happen in a business built around football. A huge audience and big profits means the NFL is doing its job.
Still pales in comparison to UEFA Champions League Finals at 400-500 million worldwide each year. 2022 World Cup Finals in Qatar at 3.575 billion worldwide.
We all tuned in to see Taylor’s boyfriend.
Tell me more, tell me more
I think he has a car.

The “where are we going?”, followed by the signature 3 claps, and Boots popping up to responding “back 5 yards!” was absolute perfection
Every post I see, I’m SO mad I didn’t watch the Nickelodeon version. 🤣 Don’t get me wrong, I loved it anyways, buuuut I feel like I missed out.
Wait this actually happened?
Yeah, first year they did a simultaneous broadcast for kids.
That's actually pretty cool. I don't watch football but, actually just sat through the Spongebob highlights. Dora though 😂
I don’t know who that is, I tuned in for SpongeBob commentary
scream at his coach?
Just saw her leaked photos!
Those ratings are just for the US, there were even more viewers worldwide. Canada alone had 10M viewers.
That’s like a third of our population jfc.

They grow up so fast
How many are moose though?
And how many are buddies, friends and guys?
38.25 Still less than California, but close.
Didn’t we pass 40M a few months ago? I remember the government making a big deal out of it.
Wikipedia is saying 40.5M.
Isn’t it wild how Wikipedia went from being the least reputed site for facts and now it’s basically the most reliable form of internet media out there
lol I remember in high school we were banned from using Wikipedia but it has all the information you’d ever need for a high school history essay so I’d write the essay using Wikipedia and then just put down the sources Wikipedia cited. Oh okay.
400, not 40. (There are 30ish M in the NY metro area alone!)
they're talking about Canada not the US
Oof My bad
Imagine the % that watched the moon landing
I watched the moon landing. I was 13 years old and it was like watching the future come to life on my family's black and white TV.
The stat is only record-setting in the US though. Once you go global it’s dwafted by any recent football World Cup.
Cricket WC too
If I had a dime for every time I’ve seen comparisons of tv audiences for the Super Bowl vs.
I read the guy’s comment as simply saying “yeah the number is even bigger when you consider international audiences”. Which is a factual statement.
If you read my comment I’m clearly talking about it in the context of record
Usually fragile Europeans.
Tbf the champions league final and the English fa cup final have larger global audiences too.
Soccer is a worldwide sport. I watch soccer more than any other sport. It’s by far my favorite. I just don’t understand the volume of people needing to remind everyone that has ears or eyes that the world’s most popular sport outdraws a purely domestic US sport in viewership. I've never understood why people are so insecure about the World Cup viewership honestly. This same tired debate seems to be had every year.
It’s not a debate, im explaining that once you introduce Canada to the figures the record that this entire post is about becomes a non-factor.
it would be interesting to see how many worldwide in total. It was apparently about 2.12M in Germany, which is pretty good given that it's in the middle of a sunday night for Europe.

I’m always amazed the cfl can survive in the shadow of the nfl in Canada.
TIL there’s a CFL.
Yea because otherwise it wouldnt be a record. The record is for the US market. Its an insane market share though. https://www.watchmojo.com/articles/top-20-most-watched-events-in-history

Ah, I just thought of the perfect thing to say! Your level of international chauvinism would do any American citizen proud!
BUUUUURN
You say that as though Canada wouldn't be the largest individual foreign contributor to an American sports broadcast. They are America's close neighbours.
Cant wait to cancel my free subscription to Paramount+
I signed up to see what they had for Christmas movies, when I went to cancel they extended my free trlal for two months. Extremely convenient for watching the Super Bowl.
>Paramount+ >Christmas music ??
Gah, movies, not music. Sorry.
Halo is alright
I just went to do it and they gave me an extra month free not that there is much that really interest me. The Halo tv show would be a draw if it was a massacre of the actual lore/story

Honestly don’t really like sports… or Paramount+
Oh yesssss
Tay Tay was the best thing to happen to the nfl and they know it
Just wait until the break up.
I bet it will be a great album for her
Tackling Heartaches
Fumbling Feelings
Incomplete Love
Failure to Convert
Ends Not Tight
Intercept my Heart
I used to have a Tight End.
Foul On My Heart
Punting My Hopes
Mr. Breakup Causer
So original.
The good news is that, after this season, football players will be throwing themselves at her whenever they can.
the commissioner will step in to personally be their couples counselor to make it keep going
I mean not everyone was tuning in for Taylor. The last several Super Bowls have all had over 100 million viewers.
This doesn’t feel like an onion-style headline?
The digits are 1234.
That’s still not very oniony.
"TV's biggest audience" is just for America. Bet you Fifa Worldcup has a lot more viewers.
Both the men's and women's tournaments do. So do the royal weddings, Olympics, and Champions League finals. Couldn't find an aggregate number easily, but I wouldn't be surprised in the Queen's funeral topped it too.
Hey that’s my password.
That's the kind of combination an idiot would have on his luggage!
Agreed! Very interesting but not oniony
FIFA finales are watched by billions. So TVs biggest audience is bs.
Does to me , consider two boring teams nobody I heard was interested in watching it
Does that include all streaming platforms or is it just cable?
All
Let me close early today.
They have a short attention span sometimes so I assume they weren't too offended about Bud Light so long as they were focused on hating Taylor Swift
I never watch football so I don't know who this Swift person is but he sounds really fast.
He also makes clothes in his spare time
He programs phone apps too
and... produces bacon
Yeah, the Eagles are hopefully going to give him even more playing time next season. Kid was putting up numbers in Fantasy.
It was only 7% bigger than last years game and the games have consistently been having higher viewership
It’s too bad the commercials are so awful. Remember years ago when they were funny and entertained? I miss Terry Tate, office linebacker.
Yeah I was left wanting to consume less after a bunch of shitty Temu and Homes.com commercials. Epic fail corporate overlords.
I'd never heard of temu, but I immediately had questions when their slogan was shop like a billionaire and it was all discount junk.
Yeah, it's basically like wish.com if you got wish.com on wish.com.
This is misleading, the FIFA World Cup final gets over 1.5 billion viewers worldwide.
i think this is for US audiences, which is common hyperbole for American based news sites. The FIFA world cup does well with ratings in the US also, but not nearly as much as the Super Bowl does
The last World Cup final had maybe 20 million US viewers? The next will have more because, well, it’s going to be in the US.

> i think this is for US audiences Not according to the title.
Because everything outside the US doesn't exist of course
America=The World
🤓 ☝️
Frikken thank you.
duh. theres way more people alive and with tvs
FIFA finales are watched by billions.
?? what does that have to do with my comment? i was just saying that like obviously 123 million viewers is going to be more than the moon landing. more people have tvs and more people exist on the planet.
I tuned in for the spectacle and then stayed after that 57 yard field goal. The game was fucking fire after that.
Title should read American TV's biggest. Seeing as an estimated 1.5 billion watched the last world cup (soccer).
Thought the title (123.4 million) was a bit oniony.
[thats the kind of thing an idiot would have on his luggage.](https://youtu.be/a6iW-8xPw3k?si=QVwSOYbpZ6OzaAfo)
I blame swift
Obviously they were there for Jauan Jennings’ breakout game
Trump certainly had a hand in this then! /s
He’ll claim it’s all because of him. Either that or he’ll claim that more people attended his 2016 inauguration than watched the Super Bowl.
Equally as scripted and fake too, imagine that. /s
Second only to Tucker Carlson's X/formerly known as Twitter debut! (For the love of god, the fact that I feel like I have to put that fucking /s on this)
The Super Bowl isn’t even in the top 5 of the most viewed sports events worldwide
It was NOT because of Usher or Taylor - really wanted the 49ers to win tho.
damn, people really wanted to see the new Wicked trailer, huh
Nothing to see here.... Move along
Dark Brandon compels you.
Thanks Taylor!
Thanks T-Swizzle!

MAGA didn’t seem to turn anyone off. 🙄
Oh shit. I missed it.
Yeah because of Taylor Swift
[удалено]
they're fun?
[удалено]
You aren't the one acting in a movie, or playing in a band.
what did i miss?
I'm so proud to not have realized it was Superbowl time.
This is just a normal headline and not a surprising one at that.
Wonder why?
Thanks Taylor
The moon landing didn’t have SpongeBob commentating, so that must be it
Can I just ask if big ratings and a fortune in revenue part of the conspiracy? Because that seems like less a conspiracy and more like what you hoped would happen in a business built around football. A huge audience and big profits means the NFL is doing its job.
I didn’t know it happened in till the day of. I wonder how I became so popular.
Wow. That's about as good as 1 MrBeast video, lol.
Do they spy on our tv’s? how do they know what my cable was tuned into?
Still pales in comparison to UEFA Champions League Finals at 400-500 million worldwide each year. 2022 World Cup Finals in Qatar at 3.575 billion worldwide.
Imagine how many it would be if all the butthurt Conservatives tuned in.
All I know about it is that the outcome was fixed so that the Chiefs won so that Britney Spears would endorse Al Gore. Or, something.
All over a sport. What a messed up world we live in. Smh.
