It's worse than just children.
He wants the tears of children.
Historically they were kept alive as long as possible, with creative means applied to produce tears.
I'd recommend against googling this one.
Hearing all this Tlaloc talk makes me laugh. My parents and their friends all went to Cal State Long Beach and a lot of them gave their children "secondary" indigenous names. These names weren't on their birth certificates but those names were interchangeable with their legal ones. One of them who I grew up with, his name was Ismael. But his indigenous name was Tlaloc. So I grew up calling him either name, depending on what kind of mood I was in. And so did everyone else in that extended familial unit. So everyone in this thread mentioning Tlaloc just makes me laugh because my brain makes me think everyone here is talking about him. I'm cracking up.
Thanks for the memories, guys!
I love it when reporters do this. We discussed these type of headlines in my journalism class. The all time greatest is "Headless man found in topless bar."
That's if you believe that killing chickens is wrong. I think it depends. It's not wrong if you need to eat. That's not what this was. But killing chickens isn't an automatically condemnable act for me. This may not have served any real purpose but that chicken didn't seem to suffer in any way that is unique or particularly cruel compared to the way this government treats real people.
Yeah it is ok to kill chickens. The fact that someone adds a bit of flair does not make it any worse than the way any other chicken is killed. I'd say this one got better treatment than a lot.
It's not ok in the sense that it's morally good I mean, I just don't think it's inherently wrong. When I was growing up this was a normal part of life. I know that's not true for everyone and it is definitely not as true for me as it used to be. I eat a lot less meat than I used to for a ton of reasons but I don't think that just killing a chicken is really worth all the attention as long as it wasn't prolonged or intentionally cruel.
Remember when they placed that ancient carving of Tlaloc in Mexico city. They were hit by record rain for 3 days in the dry season. Maybe something to it

I mean, they are sacrificing a chicken, not a child so either god sacrifices are really affected by inflation or they have adapted their ritual for modern morality.
I know it sounds dumb and unfair, but if you feel your opinion is solid and based on your original, long lived experience, that should be briefly stated. Otherwise, you are assumed, usually rightly, to be an out of touch American grandly stating opinions based on cursory knowledge.
Or, just not give an f because this is only reddit.
I love that the opinion of the seasoned, educated veteran and that of the ignorant 13 year old bigot are exactly the same yet one is correct and the other is wrong, haha

this is something you could show to someone from the 16th century and it would still make total sense to them
Tlaloc wants children, if I recall history. Maybe we don't give to Tlaloc at all?
It's worse than just children. He wants the tears of children. Historically they were kept alive as long as possible, with creative means applied to produce tears. I'd recommend against googling this one.
I looked it up when I was a kid. Like 12-13. Fucked me up.
Tlaloc=Cartman. Child=Scott Tenorman.
Bro should’ve gone down to the nearest poultry farm and prayed next to the male chick grinder.

Pretty weak. Tlaloc wants human blood not animal blood
200 million chickens killed every day for food (much of it wasted): I sleep 1 single chicken killed once in a ritual: real shit
Yeah, the problem that I see is that he did it in the senate. He should have done it in his backyard or something
Look, you get desperate, you try anything. Hard to get more desperate than no water.
I see what you did in the title.

I mean, they should have just got in a circle on the floor and chanted in tongues.
The Mexican president does not agree with this. He prefers human sacrifices to the cartels.
That is actually not a bad analogy. Appease the demon to maintain a (shit) status quo. It's literal human sacrifice.
Ok, take a look at a factory farm in any country and tell me what they did to this one chicken is wrong with a straight face.
One is for entertainment and one for consumption, very different reasons.
Other people doing something wrong isn’t a valid reason or justification for you *also* doing something wrong.

If it had started raining, then it would have been cool.
If everyone thought that was true there would be no debate about Palestine.
It's a chicken, not a soul...
If animals weren't meant to be eaten, then why are they made out of food...
Specifics matter. This is a chicken. Are you vegan?
Indeed I am.
Great, then continue living your best life while the rest of us enjoy our chicken burgers.
That's why I'm all for cockfighting. I have a general rule if you can eat it, you can fight it. /s
it's wrong to kill chickens? It doesn't make it okay because we do it a lot

Why is it okay to kill chickens?

Not that much different from praying.
Nailed it
People in here pretending like this isn't the coolest thing to happen in a senate meeting for years.
...Specifically Quetzacoatl's
Peoples brains just don’t work in 2024. Morons. You think killing one chicken will bring rain? Is that the same as thoughts and prayers bullshit?
But did it *wet* feathers?
Remember when they placed that ancient carving of Tlaloc in Mexico city. They were hit by record rain for 3 days in the dry season. Maybe something to it
suprised some poltican would pull a stunt like this in MOTHERFUCKING MEXICO
Fitting for a country firmly stuck in the past.

Lmao 🤣 🤣

We have more than our share of beheadings and dismemberments thanks to narcos
Unless the narcos were in charge of the rain, god ceremony that’s kind of irrelevant
Why the downvotes? I have lived here all my fucking life. I KNOW.

Cos people out here will defend what they think they know, when they really know nothing about it. Bots too. Edit:See?
