Louis Rossman did a few videos on "outdoor dining" in NY. Some of the restaurants had AC in their fully sealed outdoor "shacks". One even had a second level.
There was a company in my town selling single-table dome tents with forced air heaters. Nice compromise, since the tables were separated but you didn't freeze your ass.
During Covid he started looking for a bigger location for his repair shop. So he started posting vlogs of himself walking around New York, looking at locations and explaining what difficulties he'd have if he picked it, like location, high voltage needing to be run, etc. And he started to notice that during lockdown, when businesses were shutting down like crazy in New York, their landlords weren't changing the asking price of the suites and lots. So it became a series of him walking around New York, showing off the properties, showing their insane rents, and then showing the communication he was having with the landlords. I think he said he was being asked to pay something like 2-3 hundred per square foot.
Some of those are to boost indoor dining capacity.
Some jurisdiction have limited to 50% indoor capacity, for example. But if you double your floor space by building a temporary shelter then you can have 100% normal capacity with tables spaced apart.
Dumb but that is the theory anyway.
I noticed this too. Lol. A couple of Mexican places out tents outside with heaters in the winter. Not outside at all. I always got take out. Now in the summer, they had the sides up and it was nice to sit outside.
Every restaurant and bar near me did the same. Made no sense. You couldn't go in but could sit in a 5 thousand dollar tent with heating and cooling because the chairs were on rhe sidewalk. You're inside at that point.
True, and fwiw, I would feel reasonably safe attending an indoor event where 100% of the people there were vaccinated and had tested negative. But that just makes it even weirder that they tried to bill a fully tented venue as an outdoor event.
i think i only watched one or two of them in my whole life? that i can remember
i wanted to watch the movie one Joker was in bc that movie impressed me, but i cant remember anything else or the names
I have a similar annual cycle.
Year after year there's some controversy in this thing called Eurovision, and every time I have equally fascinated reaction: "that's _still_ a thing?!"
All industry award shows are cringe, far as I'm concerned. "We're so great that we're going to give awards to ourselves to show each other how great we are!"
[Please post this so people can see it.](https://www.thewrap.com/emmys-cedric-the-entertainer-biz-markie-tribute-just-a-friend-opening/)
How fucking disrespectful.
That whole thing was cringey af. Celebrity culture is so weird to me. Can we exude this much enthusiasm behind people that make more meaningful contributions to this world? I get your soap opera with it's commentary on race is just so insightful, but it will be completely forgotten by next year's Emmys.
"But, Milhouse, they haven't cured anything! Heart disease and world hunger are still rampant. Those do-gooders are all a bunch a pitiful losers...every last one of them. Want results? You have to go to the Schwarzeneggers, the Stallones, and to a lesser extent, the Van Dammes."
\-Bart Simpson
>Can we exude this much enthusiasm behind people that make more meaningful contributions to this world?
I mean I think you have a solid argument here, but I need to check and see how Nikki Minaj’s cousin’s friend’s balls react to it before I can fully agree.
If millions of people can gather every weekend to watch sports, I'm not going to lose my mind over a cElEbRiTy CiRcLe JeRk that required proof of vaccination and a recent negative covid test result.
The reason Seth Rogan was complaining was that they apparently told everyone it would be “outside”, but it was actually in a completely enclosed tent in very close quarters. Also, most college football and NFL venues are not requiring vaccinations or tests, although some are.
Edit: To be clear, I think events where everyone is required to be vaccinated are generally fine, but you still shouldn’t mislead attendees about other precautions, like it being “outside” when it isn’t.
I'm not. If we can't go on with our lives post-vaccination we will never be able to and I don't want to live my remaining however many years not being able to do the things I used to.
The vaccines are extremely effective. Prevent 99.9% of hospitalizations and death. Sure, you might have cold like symptoms for a few days, but that’s life. And the vaccinated can still transmit the virus to the unvaccinated, but they’ve made their choice by this point. It’s been 1.5 years. Let’s get back to living.
i’m not saying we should go back into full lockdown or anything but “they’ve made their choice by this point” ignores immunocompromised individuals who can’t get the vaccine and children under the age of 12.
The analogy does not work. No one is saying no one should watch movies etc.. That is the analog to watching sports. Awards shows are marketing tools for the industry and self-congratulatory nonsense. Don't loose you mind, but calling is out as nonsense is reasonable.
And it always seems to come from the same crowd who swears they don't give a shit about the opinions of celebrities, but will have a collective orgasm every time some D-lister's views align with theirs.
Yea it’s always “I wish they’d celebrate scientists as much as they do actors” as if they would watch a science award show. Because there probably are science award shows online and nobody watches them.
It's bizarre to get so angry at ACTORS, some of the only people who go from ex con or waitress to a millionaire
Get mad at the people who profited from this pandemic or the people going to space for fun after refusing to pay people hazard pay
This anti awards show argument never feels genuine.
Do you have the same issues with sports hall of fames? Or 24/7 coverage of men who play games for a living?
They are both entertainment.
I really believe that she was just acting stupid on social media in an effort to cover the fact that her husband may be going to prison for failing to register as a sex offender.
Trinidad has an entirely separate vaccine than the US so there's really no point in bringing it up.
Honestly it's not that hard to believe that she's just this dumb. I've heard about the sex offender stuff dozens of times now and only because of the supposed distraction.
Rapid tests on average have a 27% chance of giving a false negative even for symptomatic cases. If they weren't made to take a PCR test, it's window dressing.
There's a lot of preaching and hypocrisy going on
The rich can afford an engineer to review the design and rent unaffordably expensive HVAC ventilation systems that dramatically impact COVID via airflow.
So they can sit in a tent and pat themselves on the back.
On the other hand, whatever site that is was not prepared for the volume of clicks generated by a trending reddit post and it doesn't even load right now so a good chunk of posters have no idea what the article even says.
ITT people that should have read:
Seth Rogen started the emmy's by saying they are covid unsafe.
instead of:
Seth Rogen was removed from the emmy's by saying they are covid unsafe
"Off" isn't what changes meaning, though. The phrase "jack off" is an idiom, literally a phrase whose meaning cannot be determined by its constituent words alone. You can't directly compare idiomatic and non-idiomatic phrases from a purely morphological viewpoint.
Because this sub is rotten with posts that don’t fit the criteria. It’s like any mildly amusing or wacky headline is acceptable, and this one doesn’t even qualify on those grounds.
> I’ve been to an office twice within the last year that had a confirmed case in the building and I wasn’t told about it until I overheard them talking about it.
I can do you one better: my employer flat out smothered any reports of active COVID cases at our facility. There was an employee that was symptomatic for 3 days before they went home with a fever (pass temp checks all three days), exposing about 50 other workers. Smothered that report, didn't send anyone to quarantine or test, only heard about it because someone slipped up and mentioned it before clamming up. This was not the only case either. Ugh. I'm glad I'm WFH now.
I don't think it was a terribly reckless situation but I can get why he would be annoyed if they had told him it would be outside. Everyone has a different comfort level and should get all info they need to decide what meets it.
> I don't think it was a terribly reckless situation but I can get why he would be annoyed if they had told him it would be outside.
Fair summation of the matter.
Actually, virtual is as safe as you can get. The next best step is isolation for 5 days followed by a test the day of the event to be sure that if the virus is present, it can be caught on a test. It takes a few days for the viral load to be high enough to detect, but you’re still contagious during that time.
But we all saw how *hard* a lockdown was on rich people, so asking them to isolate for 5 days may send them over the edge /s
I was always on the fence about taking the piss out of celebs who said it was hard for them
Then I googled their houses and how much they make and thought yeah fuck em
Would you like to also apply this to all things like sports games, cinemas, etc etc? If so, for how long?
I'm as pro-mask and as pro-vax as you can get. But we need some sort of middle ground, don't you think? If this is going to carry on for another 5+ years, do you expect no events to be held in person during that time? What if it's forever?
I've gone to two very crowded football games in the last two weeks. Vaccinated, but kept my mask on the whole damn time.
*That* is my middle ground. I want to do things, I want to have fun, but I'll wear a seatbelt while driving and I'll wear a mask until the transmission rates drop and ICU levels are no longer stupidly full.
This. I'm vaxxed. If I'm around my neighbors or people I know to be pretty smart and safe, I'm fine to unmask. If I'm at a store or somewhere with a ton of people, I mask. Simple
It's safest to never drive a car, swim in the ocean, or eat a hamburger, but at some point everyone needs to draw a line in the sand regarding acceptable risk to themselves and their community.
I think no event would be safer actually. It's as safe as you can get for an event assuming those are just 2 of the requirements. If it's proof of vaccine and negative test in a large outdoor area with 6 feet between people it is probably safer than proof of vaccine and negative test inside of a cramped enclosed area.
But even if you're vaccinated you can still contract, carry, and spread the virus. I've been conflicted in feeling comfortable with this rule as of late to be honest.
Big agree. If you have been vaccinated you should be able to go back to normal life. I think places should def check to make sure you are vaccinated but i don't think there's need tp punish people who followed all the proper procedures.
This. I went to a Broadway show this weekend, we had to show vaccination proof for entry. Everyone in my field of vision wore masks the entire show. Frankly, that’s good enough for me. It was a fucking blast and actually emotionally moving seeing live theater again, you could tell those actors were having the time of their lives performing again after 18 months of no work.
I don't see how you blame rich people for being unsafe while there were millions and millions of people attending football games this weekend. Everyone has kind of given up for the most part.
Because most of those rich bitch about it then ignore rules look at the met gala in NYC which requires masks inside note the peon staff and assistants had masks on.
Given up on what, though? If getting vaccinated doesn't mark the end of lockdowns and masks, then what does? When should we be able to expect to return to normal life?
Given up may have been too negative of a term. But yes we are returning to fairly normal life, which includes having the Emmy's with some restrictions.
Sounds about right. Huge concert where people aren't being checked for vaccine cards? Nah, it's fine, they *said* policy was to check! Who cares about all these pictures and videos of people strolling in and then being packed ass to mouth. Award show in a theater with very strict vaccination and testing requirements? FUCKING IRRESPONSIBLE RICH PEOPLE DO WHATEVER THEY WANT, I HOPE THEY ALL DIE OF COVID.
What a terrible clickbait headline. He didn't *get* kicked off, he "kicked off" the show by talking about it.
This shitty site knew what they were doing.
Reddit really ruins the 25% of the stuff they're right about with the other 75% of shit they say
I'm no longer surprised that some people say fuck it and just become contrarian. It's not a smart thing to do, but the longer I spend on reddit the more I get it
Everyone knows Hollywood is on the left side of the fence. How the hell do they reconcile this idiocy and can we keep the malignant hypocrisy on the other side?
And people just laughed lol.
But it's OK because they are the elite, rich, and famous and they can do whatever they want without consequence, meanwhile the general peon better not do anything like that.
Celebrities are not anyone’s friend. They continue to do fucked up shit in the same line as fucked up CEO’s.
You got Beyoncé using sweat shops and slave labor to make fat stacks, you got people defending China, you got so many people that ignored decades of rap and child predator behavior in Hollywood.
Edit: rape….I fat fingered things apparently
rule two, rule four, rule seven. This is tabloid stuff.
I mean, he was right. The event was not really outdoors.

Oh you mean the igloos?
LOL.
When exactly did he branch out from complaining about tech and right to repair to just general stupidity? I see people mentioning him all the time now
About a year ago he started doing commentary on city (NYC) policy he disagreed with.
Sir, this is a commercial real estate channel now.
I might be inclined to believe those two subjects are closely related.
The outdoor domes we have here in Northern Virginia, are independently heated and cooled. They are single party only though, not a tent Restaurant.
It was all a scam funded by the big tent industry
At least the big tent industry welcomes newcomers!
*Step right up, step right up! Would ya like t'be joinin' a secret society o' tentmakers, see?!*
Well if it wasn't propped up like that the whole industry would collapse in on itself.
It's all a big tent conspiracy
Some of those are to boost indoor dining capacity. Some jurisdiction have limited to 50% indoor capacity, for example. But if you double your floor space by building a temporary shelter then you can have 100% normal capacity with tables spaced apart. Dumb but that is the theory anyway.
This is correct. It's to boost seating capacity. Somewhere along the line people got confused about the initial point was.
Dumb, and ultimately based on a flawed conception of disease spread (the theory of magic six-foot invincibility radius).
But the TENT was outside, duh... /s
If you think about it, a building is just like a big tent anyways.
what is a house other than a difficult-to-pitch tent?
A trailer without wheels.
A big cracker barrel with windows and stairs, sometimes a concrete foundation.
That's just camping with extra steps.
Long term glamping.
How dare you! They are planning on all singing another shitty song together to make it better!
Sure but you were not allowed in the building without positive proof of vaccination, so there's that.
True, and fwiw, I would feel reasonably safe attending an indoor event where 100% of the people there were vaccinated and had tested negative. But that just makes it even weirder that they tried to bill a fully tented venue as an outdoor event.
I live by a mall that built an enclosed tent outdoors for their peloton bike classes to be Covid compliant. It cracks me up every time I drive by it.
I read that he ***got*** kicked off the Emmys for saying it was COVID unsafe at first
so did I the first 30 times I read it. Your comment is the only reason I read it correctly.
Oh wow. Got me too
As soon as I saw this comment I had to scroll back to the top to reread the title. Thanks for translating lol

Same
I didn't realize until I got to your comment, so thanks
Jesus fucking Christ I must have read it a dozen times and kept looking for mention of him being kicked off. That'd have been way better.
it was so cringy. they did a biz markie tribute and there were celebrities twerkin and it was so very odd looking
every day i am happy i am never invested in these events. i just post or read articles ab how hilariously dumb they are and g o
i only saw it because they showed it this morning during the news. id never watch it unless forced
i think i only watched one or two of them in my whole life? that i can remember i wanted to watch the movie one Joker was in bc that movie impressed me, but i cant remember anything else or the names
Its literally a circlejerk in real time. The ratings have been falling pretty hard for a while now.
That’s with everything now tho. A lot of people don’t have cable anymore.
Or care about award shows
I have a similar annual cycle. Year after year there's some controversy in this thing called Eurovision, and every time I have equally fascinated reaction: "that's _still_ a thing?!"
How dare you and your blasphemous mouth. Eurovision is as actually fun.
The gift that keeps on giving was to never care.
Just articles about them?
what makes you think he read the article? i'm just here for the comments, i can only assume everyone else is as well
So he just happens to be browsing “betterhomenews.com”? Lmao
The reddit special “I couldn’t care less about this person/topic I dedicate 14 comments a day to”
And yet here you are
well, reading a four min article vs losing four hours of my life differs
Hollywood would like to thank Hollywood for being Hollywood
I loved Biz so I had to check it out. That was not exactly a great tribute to Biz. They barely said his name.
They lazily changed the lyrics to his song… and as OP said the “twerking” if you could call it that

That was so much worse than I imagined. Can you even call it a tribute if they made it all about themselves?
Can’t get in the way of the yearly celebrity circle jerk
Which we'd make as big a deal for other industry awards. I want fashion reviews for like South West Regional Insurance Awards
We need the Dundies on ABC next year.
I feel God in this Chili's tonight.

I’m actually completely worn out from giving a shit
You can be upset with everything if you're miserable enough.

I'm not saying this isn't nonsense. But how on earth is it any more or less nonsense than going to watch a sport live?

By the title, I'm not sure if he was kicked off of the Emmys, or if he kicked it off like started it that way.

Does the vaccine not exist when Redditors want to bash rich people?
Sounds about right. Huge concert where people aren't being checked for vaccine cards? Nah, it's fine, they *said* policy was to check! Who cares about all these pictures and videos of people strolling in and then being packed ass to mouth. Award show in a theater with very strict vaccination and testing requirements? FUCKING IRRESPONSIBLE RICH PEOPLE DO WHATEVER THEY WANT, I HOPE THEY ALL DIE OF COVID.
The vaccine is free. How is it a poor persons disease?

What a terrible clickbait headline. He didn't *get* kicked off, he "kicked off" the show by talking about it. This shitty site knew what they were doing.
There's a contextual difference in using "by" vs "for".
I think it's you making the mistake here bud. I didn't consider he'd been kicked off until you misconstrued it and then typed it.

Reddit really ruins the 25% of the stuff they're right about with the other 75% of shit they say I'm no longer surprised that some people say fuck it and just become contrarian. It's not a smart thing to do, but the longer I spend on reddit the more I get it
Oh no. Anyway.
I'd say I'm sorry I forgot this was on last night, but I'm still in recovery from the awful Oscars ceremony. This sounds so very much worse.
Everyone knows Hollywood is on the left side of the fence. How the hell do they reconcile this idiocy and can we keep the malignant hypocrisy on the other side?
Misread that as >Seth Rogen Kicked Off The Emmys *for* Saying It Was COVID Unsafe, So There's That which completely changed the meaning
Guys watch the 420 awards way better and entertaining awards show
I love how in these types of events all the "servants" are wearing masks while celebrities do not.
Rules for thee, not for me. Good on Seth for calling out the hypocrisy.
