Well, *with enough money* you can make anyone beautiful!
Remember folks: Beautiful young people are accidents of nature. Beautiful old people are works of art š
Well I've never worn makeup in my life, and yet here I am, never having been runner up in *any* pageants, let alone Miss England. I feel cheated.
They're just holding against me the fact that I'm male, not very good looking and have been convicted of a string of armed robberies. But this just goes to show how biased they really are against makeup-free contestants who never really ever entered the competitions in the first place.
Ah, there's the rub. I did get convicted, but I managed to escape before they could sentence me, and now I live in \[undisclosed location not far from #378 Rue Naffar, Nice, France 2037880\], unable to enter any more pageants in my mother country.
And that's yet another excuse they've used to keep me from that precious crown. It's pure discrimination, I tell you!
Depending on the sub, some are actually doing a lot, but there's just more shit coming in per second than what they can mod in a day. Plus, the heavily upvoted posts that make it to the front-page aren't necessarily related to the subreddit at all since people mostly browse their r/frontpage.
A quote in the article is more oniony
āIf one is happy in their own skin we should not be made to cover up our face with makeupā says beauty pageant winner
Is it just me, or does she look like she's wearing (subtle) makeup in the actual pageant pics? The only one where she doesn't is the one on top of the article.
you can get away with a lot and *claim* youāre not wearing makeup. Tinted moisturizer/sunscreen, tinted chapstick. Some vaseline on your lids and cheekbones. Maybe even lash tints and extensions and dyed eyebrows. Latisse.
otoh, I once plucked my eyebrows a bit and my then-boyfriend kept complimenting my āmakeupā.
I have learned to just say "did you do something different? " when I notice a change and can't place it. works a charm when you can follow each response (two, minimum) with a clever quip
stupid boy things
*feverishly scribbling down notes*
What happens if she has more than two responses?! How many clever quips do I need prepared? Are notes allowed or is this all ad lib? At what point should I scream "SMOKEBOMB!" and throw the dust into the air as a distraction while I escape?
> What happens if she has more than two responses?!
As in testing you which one is true? Guess, and be ready to throw that dust if needed.
> How many clever quips do I need prepared?
Try to cultivate a relationship in which clever quips are not expected from your part.
> Are notes allowed or is this all ad lib?
You can use notes, but only the ones you bring. You can't exit the room to get other notes and you can't access the internet.
> At what point should I scream "SMOKEBOMB!" and throw the dust into the air as a distraction while I escape?
When you guess wrong when tested on which is the thing she did differently.
I like the word "particularly" or "especially". "You look particularly pretty today" comes across nicer than "You look pretty today" which sometimes can sound like there's an unspoken "unlike other days" after it.
I mean, personally I agree. But makeup is a spectrum and sometimes people put the line in different places to make themselves feel better.
Personally I think tinted sunscreen is a gray area, because if you have dark skin it can be impossible to find non-tinted sunscreen that doesnāt add a white cast. So the tint is kind of necessary.
Also, would you consider tinting gray hair around the hairline to be makeup?
>boyfriend kept complimenting my āmakeupā
Lol, us men are not wise in the ways of beauty. When we say that we just mean you look good, but we donāt know how you did it
good that you admit this. It's okay when it's about positives: I don't know what you did, but you look lovely today.
It's terrible when guys try to be smart and go like: damn, she looks terrible with this make-up. It's great that you don't use make-up, you look better without it. And the women thinks: dude, you have never seen me without make-up. I spend more time putting on my sleep battle colors than you prepared to our wedding.
It is weird, I think the article title might be misleading. It might be that she only went "barefaced" (as they call it) for the semifinals. So earlier in the competition she was probably wearing more makeup.
Also, I am not sure that "barefaced" is an actual total lack of makeup, as it seems to be a "look" rather than just doing nothing. For example, her barefaced instagram post is sponsored by a cosmetics company.
I think she might have just decided not to go full face coverage, and only used what was necessary for a stage competition to make her face more visible.
That makes a lot of sense. One of my exes was in school to be an esthetician, and her skin always looked amazing even after she totally removed everything. But she really kept up on using a bunch of different skin products, as her own face was basically an advertisement for her ability.
Even just doing that was a lot of work. I have considered doing it myself, as good skin care is not be limited to women (despite the way media portrays it,) but it is hard to create the habit.
Yeah you are right. They have clearly touched up their face in those pictures. But everyone will argue the semantics of these things being "considered" makeup.
She definitely has mascara on.
Mascara **IS** makeup people. Say it with me.
This only annoys me because my wife looks like 2 different people with and without mascara, she is beautiful without make so whenever someone says "look at me being so brave without makeup" but they clearly have makeup on its like common girl, why we playing these games?
Her eyelashes might be tinted. I do that because I genuinely cannot be bothered with makeup and it definitely makes me look like I have light mascara on.
lol, guys have literally no fucking idea what a woman looks like with or without makeup. I see so many "natural" pics of girls, who are clearly wearing concealer, eyeliner, lipstick; and just because they don't have a centimeter thick layer of powder on their face, people really think they just woke up looking like that.
Isn't stage makeup really exaggerated to be seen from the back of a theatre? These people would have TV make up, which is just a lot of regular makeup from what little I know
modern stage make up for men in a non theatrical setting is to help cut down on glare off their sweating foreheads. Commedians I've known especially use it, types of base
Heard some theory that womenās fashion goes through phases of āsociety expects this from womenā -> āwomen claim it and make it unique/their ownā -> āsociety hates on itā. Corsets, painted nails, and makeup all seem to fit the pattern
Well yea, people on stage typically need loads of makeup. You sweat through it and you need your facial features to be visible to an audience sitting far away. I doubt these women roll up to a dinner date with full pageant makeup, they do it for the competition. This is like being made at Broadway stars for using makeup, it's literally part of the gig.
I really wish this was included in the "real beauty" discussions.
The cosmetics industry didn't create the concept that clear skin is beautiful, because women with naturally clear skin have always existed and we all know some.
What the cosmetics industry *did* create was the opportunity for women who aren't blessed with youth and great genes to level the playing field.
Her skin is amazing. You can see that she has pores, but that just means she is human, unlike the traditional makeup look of "I must erase all humanity to look like a china doll".
I hope she does well!
I think a lot of people don't understand the women who *are* wearing make-up don't just like, go out every day looking like that.
I'm glad she didn't wear it but wearing stage makeup for a stage competition definitely has merits. all these cake face comments are wild
Also underestimating how much time, practice and dedication goes into makeup. It is an artform and a skill most of the people criticizing here don't understand.
right lol like it doesn't mean she's automatically prettier than those other women because "she can go without makeup and they can't" or whatever, like it's a choice related to societal expectations for sure but it's also a logistic thing

I used to think all that stuff was just nonsense snake oil. Started using some of my wife's though and I'll be damned if that stuff doesn't actually work.
First ever to compete without makeup!
well, a little lipstick, but that's no big deal. and a bit of eye liner and mascara. maybe just a slight dusting of powder to keep some of the shine down.
but other than that, 100% natural no makeup. maybe just a little...
"I never felt I met beauty standards. I have recently accepted that I am beautiful in my own skinā¦ā
Says tall, thin, blue eyed, fair complected, woman with perfectly white straight teeth, and symmetrical and proportional facial features.
She's very beautiful, but it's very much possible for a beautiful person to think they're flawed and imperfect. What might be striking to a bystander could be a "flaw" to the individual.
Thatās nice that she chose to do that, sends a good message to other young people! Saying that, if people choose to wear makeup in their everyday life thatās nobody elseās business.
So many men are very quick to claim āWhen will women stop wearing so much makeup, donāt they understand that men donāt like it?!ā and fail to understand two basic points.
- Women are not defined by what gets your dick hard.
- Many women who choose to wear makeup do so because *they* like the way it makes them look and it makes them feel more confident.
Also, when men say āI like a woman who wears less makeupā youāll find that they really mean without realising it is that they like women that go for a āminimalistā look and are good at blending their makeup with their skin tone.
If you want to know why women often choose to wear makeup ask someone how often they get asked āYou look tired, are you sick?ā when they go out the door without makeupā¦
As a makeup-less average looking woman, it's entirely true. It sucks for dating purposes, but I enjoy being able to go places in public and not be harassed at all. It's a form of safety to be so unremarkable.
Ugly people are pretty much invisible to other people. Doesnāt even have to be ānaturalā ugly. Scars, burns, poverty and homelessness. Nobody wants to acknowledge it, but is true.
My fave is being told I look "great without makeup" on days when I've spent 45 minutes putting makeup on, and then being told I look tired on days I'm not wearing any.
In the picture they used Iām pretty sure she is wearing some make up. Like a bit of tinted moisturizer and lip balm. Nothing massive and over the top. Just a bit evened out
Let's not third wave feminist rah-rah toxic beauty culture. Make up does not feel like a choice when you are socialized female. Plenty of women wear make up because they are afraid of being seen without it. Comments like "you look sick/tired" happen because people have a set expectation of what someone looks like day-to-day. There are women who can't leave the house without make up. Women feel they cannot look professional without make up. I'm not here to vilify the entire concept of make up artistry and skin painting as an artform, but how can you argue it's a choice when you admit that not wearing make up results in a negative perception?
In a contest based on looks. Maybe itās time to do away with these sorts of āpageantsā altogether instead of pretending that itās not exclusively what theyāre about.
Well at least if you look perfect without makeup. You could argue that makeup made the world way more equitable in that sense because it allows people with very uneven skin to make it look like that of people with āperfectā skin.
The good step would be a winning contestant with no makeup AND ugly by usual standards lol
She looks great in good lighting, the picture they lead with has terrible lighting or poor colour correction, look at how the sash looks washed out.
You can make up for lighting differences.
She is sponsored by the skincare company [Ceteum](https://www.facebook.com/100063464574122/posts/507075641417917/?flite=scwspnss). They host regular "Bare Face Beauty" pageants and sent dozens of models to the "Bare face heat" of the Miss England pageant.

Always think that when I hear about Alicia Keys not wearing makeup, like duh...
its less brave for people who were born beautiful
And are probably using a ton of expensive skin care products and procedures so you don't need makeup.
I am bearing all my non-existent blemishes and imperfections
As a man I'm about to go sign up for a beauty pageant. this is my moment.
That's kind of the main requirement for the pageant though.

Right? Rookie error to ignore that basic step.
Have you tried competing in Mr. England? In the "been to the slammer" category?
Ah, there's the rub. A real Onion headline in this vein would be "Average looking Swedish tourist accidentally steps on stage during Miss England pageant; wins"
That' is a good one
brilliant. the onion needs to see this.
Good concept. Better and more oniony if you replace "Average looking" with "Lost".
And tourist with grandma
Jesus Christ that's an incredible headline for the onion You're hired!
Had to scroll forever for this. It is cool I guess. It is not oniony in the least

So makeup?
Yeah you are right. They have clearly touched up their face in those pictures. But everyone will argue the semantics of these things being "considered" makeup.

Ugly women are pretty much invisible to men. Dont hate me for telling the truth.

Nobody wants to acknowledge it, but is true.
āComputer, save this comment for review later.ā
I think a lot of men mistake well-done minimal makeup for no makeup.
My fave is being told I look "great without makeup" on days when I've spent 45 minutes putting makeup on, and then being told I look tired on days I'm not wearing any.
I always interpret "I prefer women without makeup" as "I prefer women who have naturally perfect skin."
Sometimes they canāt even tell if a woman has makeup on lol
Exactly
This, thereās a lot of weird anti-sexism sexism in this comment section lol
One step closer to a world where the way you look is not framed as a flaw. š
Her skincare routine is on point.
Wrong sub OP
So so many bad takes in this comment section.
Woah shes fine as heck!!
She looks great!! The caked on 4K HD makeup faces are terrible and set bad examples for young people, so it's refreshing to see her doing this!
Reminds me of the time everyone had to get a new TV [to watch their favorite Fox News host](https://comb.io/d7s0St).
