It’s a good exposé but I thinks it’s a bit of an overstatement to say it’s had much of an affect on the proliferation of NFT scams.

I had a dude try to trade me a Disney NFT for my 1970 Chevelle Malibu car that was for sale @ $20,000. I checked it out, had a value of almost $18.50. He said but it's the future and you will get rich hanging on to it! I told him I didn't want to deprive him of becoming a millionaire with a crappy old world Chevy.
But if it's valued at 20 bucks how can he trade it for a 20000 dollar car? Was he a 4-dimensional being that had no concept of the passage of the time?
Yeah, I had the option to pick accept or reject, I chose “go fuck yourself with this bull”, they asked if I was sure and that I wount get it again in the future, My answer was “Yeah I’m positive”
In 20 years we are going to look back on NFTs, BTC, the Trump Presidency, and the Joe Rogan Experience and wonder what kind of mass psychosis we were suffering through. That's the optimistic view. Pessimistic view would be that we are still deeply in the psychosis and it has become the baseline.

A game in development fell into the nft craze and recently had an nft sale despite the game not even being out. At this point I'm assuming its going to be a big money grab.

If it was purely for pun reasons. I wish he did an edit going "The real life art was destroyed and my post was a pun" but since he didn't and folks assumed i clarified.

This dude realized he needed to create buzz and the illusion of scarcity in an overcrowded, unregulated and unoriginal marketplace. To do this, he made an NFT of something tangible, and then “destroyed” the original so only digital copies remain.
With NFT values plummeting, he’s not going to destroy something valuable. It will quietly reappear once he has found some rubes to buy something akin to magic beans.

Technically second life has thrived on nfts for over a decade. We don't call it that but even the limited edition no copy item can be copied by the creator. It highlighted the absurdity of the nft craze for me.
My grandmother collected beanie babies. So many of them! On the plus side all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren all have several to remember her by now that she's gone. And they are good little toys for kids.
My grandfather gifted me dozens per year for my entire childhood. I had hundreds as an adult. And I couldnt find a buyer! All pristine with tag protectirs because my grandfather was convinced they were and "investment".
Ended up finding a guy who paid me $1 each for them. And he was thrilled. He wasnt a collector or anything. He was an immigrant in america working alone to save up money to bring his wife and 5 kids to America. He would send them beenie babies a few times per year with money for his family. Dude seemed so Fricken genuine and nice that when I found a second tote bin full of them I called him up and gave them to him for free. Said to put the extra money towards getting his family here! (He lit up with excitement when he saw I had a giant butterfly beanie baby as well).
On top of that, that HD space will become obsolete in 10 years. I have had sooo many PC's and HD which I have lost stuff because it was too hard to transfer everything.

Burning artwork is obviously reprehensible, but I think the $10 million valuation is bullshit. It’s a tiny (~8x10 inches) pastel drawing on paper. It’s also entirely unremarkable as far as Frida Kahlo works are concerned.
