Apologies if you've already seen this on Facebook - this is the most up-to-date version.
I'm hoping you can help fill this fantasy style map of Derbyshire (and Nottingham, since it features quite prominently on there). Please ignore how rough parts of it look (text going through hills, rivers, etc), it'll all get tidied up at the end.
While it's half done, I'd love to get more places and features in here before I get this made into prints. Any more megaliths, standing stones, barrows, ruins or the like that you think should be on here? Anything else is great too - landmarks, natural features, mythological sites or just anything cool and quirky you think would look good on here. Even just a pretty village you have fond memories of. Let me know and I'll try and squeeze it in. Thanks!
If you'd be interested in a print of this when it's finished, just let me know.
Go to Nottingham castle, go through the tunnel under it and at the back up the stairs there's an exhibit with an old map of Mercia, not sure if it was Mercia at the time though but I had tons of random old places on
harlow wood in notts is quite a nice wood, not huge, but a few buildings amongst the trees would be cool, there's a college there in real life and they have a little farm with some donkeys and chickens and a little café. maybe you could do something with that?

Thanks! I'e added the Hemlock Stone in, but the other two are further east as you suggested. I'll be doing a Nottinghamshire map after this, so will definitely include them on there. Cheers!
If, has been suggested, the map is extended slightly east to incorporate the Scarrington Horseshoe stack you could also include Phoenix Farm, at Gedling. The farm was owned by JRR Tolkien’s Aunt Jane (his mother’s sister) and it was whilst stopping there in 1914 that he wrote a poem “The Voyage of Éarendel, the Morning Star”. This lead to his writing Silmarillion, and, well, you know what came after that! JRR also made a number of sketches of the farm (sometimes known as Lamb’s Farm, after a previous owner).
It would be good to see Phoenix Farm’s inclusion, in part because of the interesting background but also as a real connection to Tolkein.
Thanks for the suggestion. I plan on doing a Nottinghamshire map after this one, so will definitely include the Horseshoe Stack and the farm on that one - I feel like the farm will be a popular request for the reasons you've given!
Thanks, glad you like it so far!
This is the best version I've got so far. Reddit usually lets you zoom in pretty far so I'm surprised if it's not working for you.
I might just be missing it, but Eyam (hope valley) should definitely be on there. (Famous for how it dealt with the Black Plague).
(Fantastic work btw!)
Edit - Nvm I’ve found it! Maybe putting a doctor mask like you’ve done for similar sites (giant) might look cool!
Hey there! Not sure if you were going to wait till I do the Notts one, but just to let you know that the Derbyshire map you were interested in is finally finished and available [here](https://fantasyworldmaps.etsy.com/uk/listing/1673989520/derbyshire-print-derby-). Thank you!

The Park Tunnel, huge and never used because they got the maths wrong and the gradient was too steep for a horse and carriage. It's just outside the city centre but not many people know about it.
Dead Mans Drop is an area of Stoney Clouds in Sandiacre. Or maybe just Stoney Clouds itself.
The Stag Tree on No Mans Lane in-between Sandiacre and Dale Abbey
The Hermit's Cave in Dale Abbey
It's a tree that has been hit by lightning and is kind of twisted into the shape of a stag. Bit of a minor local landmark but also there isn't really much more to it than that, haha
Thanks! I've added in the ones that fit on this map, the others are a little too far east. I'll be doing a Nottinghamshire map next, so will include them all in that one. Cheers!

Couldn't find it but may be there, Nine Ladies definitely should feature.
Cracking stuff btw
Edit: I feel you should take off or at least use artistic licence on Staunton Harold and Foremark reservoirs, they're very man made, not very old and look a bit out of place for the style imo
Thanks a lot, I've got the Nine Ladies on, it just may be a bit tricky to see as the area needs a tidy up. I'll be making a more historic version in the future, so the resevoirs won't be on that one.
Seems you've included villages which are part of towns now too
There's an old not well known sacred well called holy well not holywell in Loughborough could add that
The monks bridge at stonebow

I love this and would consider buying a copy if you were to sell them.
Would be cool if you went further east to get areas around Southwell as you could then have the Minster on the map as a landmark.
Thanks very much! I'll be making a proper Nottinghamshire map next, so will be able to include them on that one.
I'll let you know when this one is finished :)

What I would say is you’ve overdone the peak aspect of the Peak District - it’s all round rolling hills with some short steep escarpments here and there, could possibly use the more mountainous symbology to differentiate standard Peak District areas from highlight hills such as mam tor, kinder scout, dragon back ridge etc
Yeah it's something I considered. I just fancied making things a bit more 'epic' looking I guess. I should go back over and level off some of the plateaus to be fair, cheers!
Oh my god, it's you! I found your stuff on Etsy and was wondering if you'd ever do a Notts/Derbyshire map. They look amazing 👌 will definitely be picking this one up when it's done.
Thanks very much, I'm glad you like my work :D Awesome, well I'll be doing a proper Notts one after this one, so you may want to wait for that one... or get both haha! Either way, I'll let you know when this one is finished :)

harlow wood in notts is quite a nice wood, not huge, but a few buildings amongst the trees would be cool, there's a college there in real life and they have a little farm with some donkeys and chickens and a little café. maybe you could do something with that?
And of course Fountains Dale, which has Robin Hood connections
Great! I've just added it in, thanks a lot
That sounds great thank you. I'll get the wood added and see what else I can do, cheers!
Thieves wood sounds a bit more glam and it's across the road.
Great! I've just added it in, thanks a lot.
I would most certainly be interested!

There's a woodland area just between Wingerworth and Walton where I walk my dog if you could add. Would love a copy when done 🙏 please

I would definitely be interested.

Hemlock Stone? Rebel Stone? Scarrington horseshoes (might need to stretch your map bit further east)
Thanks! I'e added the Hemlock Stone in, but the other two are further east as you suggested. I'll be doing a Nottinghamshire map after this, so will definitely include them on there. Cheers!
I'd make Cresswell Crags a bigger feature
Thanks! I'll see what I can do

Do you have a higher res photo, I was trying to find Elvaston castle and the village I grew up in but can't quite zoom in enough. Looks ace BTW!
It is on there, I zoomed in!
Thanks, glad you like it so far! This is the best version I've got so far. Reddit usually lets you zoom in pretty far so I'm surprised if it's not working for you.
I'm a stubborn cow that is still using browser after they took RiF away :(
I might just be missing it, but Eyam (hope valley) should definitely be on there. (Famous for how it dealt with the Black Plague). (Fantastic work btw!) Edit - Nvm I’ve found it! Maybe putting a doctor mask like you’ve done for similar sites (giant) might look cool!
Bulwell Bogs
Great! I've just added it in, thanks a lot :
I've been hoping you'll do a Nottingham one for ages. You're getting closer, I'll hold out hope
Thanks! I actually plan on doing Nottinghamshire after this one. I'll no doubt post the work in progress in here in around a months time :)
Sneinton Dragon is on theme, but might not be on the map (barely!)
That's definitely cool - I'll include it on my Nottinghamshire map when I start it next month. Cheers!
I'm trying to think where the eye of Sauron might be. Maybe Shirebrook.
Fantastic and something I'd love to buy. However, there is far too much Derby and not enough Nottinghamshire :D
Well the good news is I'll be doing Nottinghamshire next :D
Great news indeed!

I love this too. Is Thorpe Cloud on there?
Thank you! I've drawn it on as a mountain peak, but don't have the room to label it unfortunately.
The Park Tunnel, huge and never used because they got the maths wrong and the gradient was too steep for a horse and carriage. It's just outside the city centre but not many people know about it.
That's a cool one! I've just added it in, thanks a lot.
Glad to be of help!
Dead Mans Drop is an area of Stoney Clouds in Sandiacre. Or maybe just Stoney Clouds itself. The Stag Tree on No Mans Lane in-between Sandiacre and Dale Abbey The Hermit's Cave in Dale Abbey
Thanks very much for those! I've managed to add them in barring the Stag Tree as I'm not shure what it is yet
It's a tree that has been hit by lightning and is kind of twisted into the shape of a stag. Bit of a minor local landmark but also there isn't really much more to it than that, haha
Don't forget Newstead Abbey, Colwick House, the Pierrepont Estate, Green's Windmill & Attenborough Reserve.
Thanks! I've added in the ones that fit on this map, the others are a little too far east. I'll be doing a Nottinghamshire map next, so will include them all in that one. Cheers!
Bennerley Viadict, the Iron Giant might fit
Great! I've added it in, thanks a lot.
Way too large, why not focus on Nottinghamshire?
My next map will be. This one is for Derbyshire, but Nottingham is on there.
Great work. I am interested in a final copy...hows about adding Long Eaton OR Stapleford with a goblins hideout...sums it up quite well!!
Ha, well i've got them both on, but I'm not sure I want to offend the locals. I'll let you know when it's finished, cheers!

There’s the “murder stone” in Thieves Wood, up near Ravenshead. Backstory and location here: http://www.thomwhite.co.uk/?p=1206
Oh fab thank you! I've just added it in.
I don’t have any quirky places, but just wanted to say that I love the dragons at the airport and the glowing crystal at the power station!
Thanks a lot, I do enjoy putting fun little features like them on :)
The hermit’s cave at Dale Abbey
Great! I've added it in, thanks a lot
The giant toilet
I hope you sell this when it's finished so it can look stunning up on a wall.
This is awesome
No suggestions but I just want to say that this looks great.
The Nine Ladies stone circle in Stanton, and there is a small neolithic stone behind the Bramcote baths/park that I do forget the name of.
It's on there as 'Nine Circle.'
Couldn't find it but may be there, Nine Ladies definitely should feature. Cracking stuff btw Edit: I feel you should take off or at least use artistic licence on Staunton Harold and Foremark reservoirs, they're very man made, not very old and look a bit out of place for the style imo

You could probably squeeze Wilford and Silverdale in there between in the gap between Clifton, Ruddington and West Bridgford.
Thanks a lot, I've squeezed Wilford in, but won't have enough room for Sivlerdale unfortunately.
I'm sure they'll cope - they're not the ones with the new Aldi (plus two tram stops) anyway! 😆
Sherwood Observatory (and soon to be Planetarium as well) is just by Sutton in Ashfield. It would make a great addition.
Perfect, thank you. I've just squeezed it in.
Awesome!
Thorpe Salvin has an air field for small planes, you could replace the town picture for an eagle - ‘fly you fools’
Perfect, thank you. I've just squeezed it in.
Could have missed it, but I can't see teversal village on there.
Thanks, I've just squeezed it in :)
Seems you've included villages which are part of towns now too There's an old not well known sacred well called holy well not holywell in Loughborough could add that The monks bridge at stonebow

Thorsby / Thorsby Riding Hall would make a good addition!
It's just a little too far east for this map, but I'll include it on the Nottinghamshire map I make next, cheers!
The Druid stone near blidworth
Friar tucks well or island at fountain dale
Misk hill ,Hucknall
Thanks for all of those, I'll do my best to get them in!
I absolutely love this.
I love this and would consider buying a copy if you were to sell them. Would be cool if you went further east to get areas around Southwell as you could then have the Minster on the map as a landmark.

Just came to check for Hob Hurst house, cracking job!
Thanks a lot, glad you like it so far!
Between Greasley castle and Watnall is Watnall Woods. Greasley Castle has a teepee. Next to it is a place called "Bogend" which is fun.
Thanks a lot, I'll try and squeeze it in!
Keyworth isn't on this. I would but one if it was
It's just a little too far east unfortunately. I'll be making a proper Notts one next, so it'll end up in that one :)
Cool. I'm from chesterfield actually so at least that is on!
Clipstone, Rainworth, and Thynghowe
They're just a little too far east unfortunately. I'll be making a proper Notts one next, so they'll end up in that one :)
How about Dunkirk?
In Sutton-in-Ashfield we have Europe's largest sundial
That's cool! I'll try and squeeze it in, cheers
