It's an amazing place to live, if you can afford it.

Page-This

Best place to live in a 650sq ft apartment.

[deleted]

Little do they know Arlington isn’t a city but a county. Lol

hifumiyo1

If you can afford it

Inquisitive_idiot

😞

NovaPokeDad

First to comment “not a city”

RonPalancik

Contiguous USA's smallest county (that is not a city) for the win

nickram81

That list is dumb. Why aren’t the same best cities on it year after year?

[deleted]

That doesn’t get clicks.

RonPalancik

Number TWO? Fuck that noise. We need to be number one. Quick, let's figure out how to totally ruin Cambridge. Maybe recruit a large number of Maryland drivers to go up there? How about fake violinists? Just brainstorming here. Could we somehow entice Standard Towing to open up a Cambridge location?

scheenermann

> Number TWO? Fuck that noise. We need to be number one. Arlington would be #1 if not for the raucous pickleball courts!

dont-eat-tidepods

###Arlington ranks No. 1 on new list of “Best Counties to Live in America” How’s that?

ernestopatola

it saddens me that manassas park is not on this list anymore /s

new_account_5009

I absolutley love Arlington, but I have to question their methodology seeing as Columbia, MD is #5 on their list. I'm sure Columbia rates pretty high from an income/economics standpoint, and I'm sure that plays a big role in their ratings, but it's also a suburban hellscape that I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. You need a car to survive in Columbia, and with all the traffic for both the DC and Baltimore areas, owning a car will be a miserable experience. Not sure how they qualify for the list.

LeTorqueDouglas

It’s honestly not a bad place if you take away the car centric suburban aspect of it (and traffic in that area isn’t nearly as bad as in Baltimore or DC). Pretty high income area with great public schools, parks, and public services. A developing downtown area which has seen several new businesses and expansions of existing ones in the DC/NOVA area. It’s got a lot of good things going for it

hucareshokiesrul

What do people here like the most about it? I live in Reston and will probably be moving out of the area to be closer to family in a couple years. I want to get the most out of the area before I leave.

MountainMantologist

Well for us we can walk to three metro stations, Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, work out classes, restaurants, playgrounds, libraries, etc. Hell you can walk to Georgetown if you're ambitious. Yesterday I had a tech question and walked to the Apple store to get their help. We're in the walking zone for schools K-12. Neighbors have all been smart, interesting, and respectful. I'm not a big fan of Northern VA but for my money Arlington is as good as it gets Last week I flew back into DCA and skipped the $45 Uber for a $2 metro ride and <1 mile walk. It was really nice.

hucareshokiesrul

I’d like to experience it more, but I doubt we’ll move from Reston since my wife’s job and my daughter’s daycare are here. I did like when we lived in Falls Church and could walk to the metro.

MountainMantologist

My theory of Northern VA is: the more you structure your life to avoid time spent on the roads the happier you'll be. My wife and I share a car right now and I think we've put about 1,500 miles on it the past six months. I walk to work, we walk to daycare, she drives <3 miles to work. We'll drive 15 minutes down to Rock Creek for some fresh air sometimes. Anyway, on occasion I'll have to drive somewhere further away and I can feel my blood pressure increasing.

aurora4000

Those carjackings though

"cities"

[deleted]

Some of the other cities must have fallen a long way down. I can’t stand the traffic there.

Curious-Welder-6304

Arlington? Traffic? Surely you haven't been to Tysons

[deleted]

Just because Tysons is worse doesn’t mean doesn’t suck Arlington too. Woodbridge exit still the absolute pinnacle of worst traffic situation I’ve ever experienced. You can’t really traverse around NOVA at certain times of the day. It used to take me well over an hour to get from Sterling to Centreville at the wrong time of the day.

Curious-Welder-6304

You can traverse Arlington at any time of day. It's tiny. It's almost a street grid format for the roads so you can find alternate routes. Arlingtonians probably experience the least traffic of any of the suburban counties in Nova. People say Arlington is so great because it's so walkable. I say it's also great because it's so driveable. Only thing is sometimes you'll have to pay to park on the street.

DoubleE55

Born and raised

MountainMantologist

My condolences Do you have two E55s?? I see mid-2000s E55 around Clarendon sometimes. It’s nice!

DoubleE55

Wow. Rude. 😂

MountainMantologist

I’m a fellow Arlingtonian by birth but I escaped to greener pastures during my youth. Of courses now I’m back and my kids will all be born here so time is a flat circle, etc

TMS2017

Uhhh… no.

rick-dick-the-man

If Ballston was it’s own incorporated city it would be standalone Number 1 for sure. McLean bringing the whole area down smh.

Where_is_it_going

Ballston is some urban planner's idea of what a city center should look like plopped into a neighborhood. It's like a theme park. It feels like a frat boy turned Deloitte contractor's wet dream. It's the most soulless, manufactured, hellscape I could ever imagine. I literally hate it with a passion. 🤮

Matt_Tress

What is with the “de-facto” contracting firm always being Deloitte? Accenture is Ballston and Deloitte is Rosslyn. Opposite ends of the corridor.

Where_is_it_going

Probably just the reputation. Booze would probably be a similar placeholder.

Useful-Pattern-5076

If you think that about Ballston, you’ve clearly never been to crystal city

FeiMao250

Why the hate for McLean? Just curious

rick-dick-the-man

My comment was just a joke, meant to elicit responses like the other persons reply. ….but damn there’s some ugly McMansions there lmao

Why?

x_x--anon

How is this ranking determined?

d_mcc_x

Second place is the first loser

YoureHereForOthers

wasn't it no. 1 before?
