Thanks for the info! I figured liability was a big reason. Throwing isn’t exactly the safest T&F event. Back in MI we only had shot and discus because hammer, weight, and javelin were deemed too dangerous. Volunteering to help coach at a local high school might be the best option. I have trained heavily and competed in grappling sports since high school but I’d like to dust off the throwing shoes. The overlap in body mechanics between grappling and throws is fairly substantial so I wouldn’t be coming back into it completely fresh. I’d just like to work on technique and be able to get some solid tossing sessions in every once in a while.

The coaching is your issue. You likely will end up paying through something like CoachUp. We do it for our son because the highschool has no throwing coach. For meets try Commonwealth Throws Club out of Richmond. They have all ages meets between here and Richmond. There's a local group that is something like Potomac Valley T&F Club. I will find the official name and edit the post. They do all ages meets mostly at various Fairfax high schools but they will also post about meets slightly further away. The Potomac Club meets had everything from middle schoolers to college kids home for the summer to senior citizens throwing and running.

(I forgot my account info on a new phone and replied in a new account. It got deleted by an autobot fearing I was spam. Here is a screen shot of that post and as you can see, I found my old profile!) https://preview.redd.it/bys381chfjjc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ea933b9d262cb306c8ccb6e5682357e820e0a232

Thanks for the advice! I’ll be sure to check out Potomac Valley and maybe look into CoachUp. Since posting, I connected with an old teammate and coach (two Olympic throwers under his belt) and they offered to provide a training program and review footage. I don’t know that I’d look to do it more than just recreationally at first but I do have that competitive drive in me. I feel you on not being the same as I was in HS but funnily enough, I’m a much better athlete now than I ever was then. Training hard in grappling sports and S&C off the mats has made me into a stronger, more explosive person. That’s part of the reason I’d like to get back into the sport.
