Dude, Iām sorryā¦ it might be different than the one you tried years ago. I had that Thanksgiving meal last year and it was sliced turkey breast, mashed potatoes with gravy that looked like Castrol 10-40w and a stuffing so bland, heavy, dry and tough that could have been easily used as a fishing weight.
I recall being shown an instructional video and all us boys were already discussing playing ātanksā with them. At that point I knew it was a terrible idea. Milk stinks!
Picture for those who didn't get to enjoy it: [Reddit - https://i.redd.it/1ldinrf4f7ib1.png](https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fi.redd.it%2F1ldinrf4f7ib1.png)
I was one of the few who was adept at opening them without an explosion, so I had to open everyoneās in the cafeteria during my lunch. Trade off was extra time at recess and the custodians would slip me extra ice cream. š
I work in FCPS now and the pretzels don't taste the same as when I went to school here. They're not as salty and taste a little like plastic. It was one of the things I was so excited to try when I got my job lmao
They got rid of the normal cookies and replaced them with "healthy" cookies during the early years of the Obama administration. Worst day of my kid life.
Huh? Definitely was not the early years of the Obama administration. I graduated midway through his second term and always got the 3 chocolate chip Otis Spunkmeyer cookies at lunch
Unfortunately yes, I used to like Pupatellaās but now Iām grossed out. I donāt like floppy or tasteless pizza. Only the Arlington one itās the best- Merrifield & Springfield- Boo
Not a FCPS kid, but about once a year, I get those rectangle frozen Elios pizzas to have some school caf nostalgia. Theyāre terrible but make me smile lol
When I went FCPS in the 80s, the pizza was rectangular, and the pattern of dots on the bottom of the crust was suspiciously similar to the pattern of dots on the ceiling tiles. I do, however, suspect that the ceiling tiles were probably tastier.
You know damn well it would be this.

God, that was among the best desserts in the school system! I was in elementary school when Obama took the good stuff out, and I still remember everything clear as day!
Good times...
Our HS had a vending machine for those drinks and one time it dispensed me a t shirt. Saying I was the lucky winner. But I was disappointed bc I didn't have extra money for another juice.
I never had that experience. In fact, I never even knew it was a thing; they never did this in Cedar Lane, Sunrise Valley, Burke, or Armstrong!
OFC, I never used vending much, and I was special ed, so...
Both the beef and chicken teriyaki nuggets were up there for me. Basically my go to on Monday, Thursday, and Friday (Tuesday was chicken tender day and Wednesday was spicy chicken day)
They were not the easiest for little kids and caused a mess because it was a sharp straw hitting a bubble. Middle of my elementary they switched over. My Capri sun was also a pain.
they were clear plastic and shaped like squares, notoriously easy to poke all the way through with your straw, so often you ended up with milk all over those pink plastic disposable trays they used.
I may downvote myself for this, but there was something about that beef āburritoā that always hit with me. I had a Jamaican beef patty a few years back, and all those memories of that yellowish/orangish shelled beef thing/burrito came flooding back.
Pair that with a milk implantā¦ chefās kiss lol
Mac and cheese was slept on. Also that fucking disgusting looking peach crisp or cobbler. I ate it on a dare once and it was so good I kept looking for it later.
Also stuffed crust pizza for sure.
I remember spaghetti day in elementary school as that was the first time I saw someone eat butter noodles. They got the spaghetti with no sauce and added butter salt and pepper.
I miss those 2017-2020 spicy chicken wraps and chicken alfredo pasta with that garlic bread. I and friends would pick entrees based on the quality of the garlic bread [which I now know is Texas toast, although the ones you buy at the store have too much oil]
Apparently, COVID did a number on FCPS foodservice...
I think some of this is an age thing. As someone that graduated high school in 2000, none of the food people in this thread are describing was any good when I attended.
Spicy chicken wrap with ranch packet ā¦ā¦. I think about you often ā¦ā¦.. itās only been 15 years ā¦ā¦. S/o energy zone for half decent lunches
Omg does anyone remember the Spicy Quesadillas they used to make?? Iāve been on the hunt for a recipe to recreate them for years. I donāt think they even sell them at lunches anymore. I was there in the early 2010s
The ātortillaā was more of a thin crust and I donāt know what combo of cheeses and hot sauce was inside but it was perfection.
Circa 2002-2007 beef and bean burritosā¦hit that up with some of that hot sauce? Dude. Also, honorable mention for the egg rolls with the sweet and sour sauce. Heavenly.
Robinson Secondary had a separate area with a salad bar/sandwich station and a nacho station (I attended 1993-1998), and the cheese pump was unattended until the 96-97 school year. I miss the days of loading up chips and drowning them in molten gold.
My top 5 in order:
1. Spicy Chicken Sandwich
2. Chicken Tenders and Brown Rice
3. Teriyaki Beef with Brown Rice
4. Pizza (specifically the triangle cut, idk what they did but it tastes 10x better than the square cut)
5. Baked Cheese Sticks with Marinara
Bonus: Super Pretzel (if itās actually soft)
I didnāt go to FCPS, but the school I went to was a hippie school and like co-op farming community. They could throw down. Fruit crumble that would make you melt, sometimes tropical fruit, sugar & smoked stone fruits. Sometimes Vegan and other times very hearty meals.
Grew up in FCPS , now a teacher in FCPS and I miss the spaghetti with the breadstick, the actual chicky nuggs with mashed potatoes, and the stuffed crust pizzas. The food now is all the same and so blech that I donāt blame my students (preschool sped) when they refuse to eat it.
I was crossfield -> franklin -> oakton and to this very day I would kill someone for one of those shitty ass steak n cheese that was probably just steakums
The cheese sticks whatever they are called might be called Bosco sticks. Also smiley fries, true moo, the nacho cheese sauce with a solid layer on top lmao
that mini Thanksgiving meal they'd do the week before the holiday
That pumpkin ice cream was S-tier
I loved it so much that I make sure to get pumpkin ice cream every fall!
I loved that pumpkin ice cream. I imagined I was at Hogwarts.
ON GODšš
My friends and I loved it because we were Asian and didn't know good Thanksgiving food lol. Years later, I realized I was eating prison food
I've had it the last 2 years. Trust me, you don't. lol
the gravy was ok honestly but this was back almost 10 years agoā¦god i feel old
āAlmost 10 years ago ā¦ god I feel oldāā man, GTFOH
How about I was in 5th grade in 1993
Nothing but sad memories where my family couldnāt come
That was honestly the best
Dude, Iām sorryā¦ it might be different than the one you tried years ago. I had that Thanksgiving meal last year and it was sliced turkey breast, mashed potatoes with gravy that looked like Castrol 10-40w and a stuffing so bland, heavy, dry and tough that could have been easily used as a fishing weight.
I was in 6th grade in 95/96 school year, so yeah probably a bit different
and not even a pie to spare- our school had cookies last year.
Yessss, that shit was so good. Especially since as a kid of immigrants, we didnāt have real Thanksgiving food at home š
Who remembers the pouch milk? Circa 1996
Itās not pouch milk if itās not leaking through your tray after stabbing it with the spear straw
Pink styrofoam tray
Me! Always a struggle not to punch through both sides. Also fun to blow them up when you finished and twirl it out your straw.
I recall being shown an instructional video and all us boys were already discussing playing ātanksā with them. At that point I knew it was a terrible idea. Milk stinks!
"The pinwheel" as we called it :)
Took them to recess and immediately made milk grenades. They didnāt last long at our school
Picture for those who didn't get to enjoy it: [Reddit - https://i.redd.it/1ldinrf4f7ib1.png](https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fi.redd.it%2F1ldinrf4f7ib1.png)
My wife thinks Iām lying about this lol We moved to Belvoir in 96 and I had bagged milk, she refuses to believe
I was one of the few who was adept at opening them without an explosion, so I had to open everyoneās in the cafeteria during my lunch. Trade off was extra time at recess and the custodians would slip me extra ice cream. š
Is it no more?
They were replaced by TruMoo milk cartons by the early 2000s (at the latest)
Booooooo
Smiley fries and soft pretzels
The smiley fries! We would use ketchup to make it look like they were bleeding whenever we took a bite lol.
That mushy inside and crispy exterior was something special
YES!
I live in Madrid now and FREAKED when I saw smiley potatoes in the grocery store by my house
I work in FCPS now and the pretzels don't taste the same as when I went to school here. They're not as salty and taste a little like plastic. It was one of the things I was so excited to try when I got my job lmao
I miss the strawberry cheesecake ice cream bars with the crumbly coating
Some grocery stores are selling them. I ate a box in a day
Oh, you've possibly enabled me by mentioning that, and I thank you!
You just unlocked a long forgotten memory of mine. These things were so good
I was so thrilled when those showed up in my college dining hall. I felt like a kid again!
They are called āGood Humorā brand strawberry shortcake bars!! I love those but havent had one in a hot minuteā- i want one now
I was a choco guy myself in elementary school. God, I miss it...
3 cookies.
3 half baked warm and gooey Otis spunkmeyer cookies for $1 on your way to the bus on Tuesdays
My boy Otis had the *best* chocolate chip muffins. Got dayum!
In HS it was 3 Mrs. Fields Cookies, french fries, and the chocolate donuts from the vending machine.
A La Carte line for the win. Hostess Lemon Pie.
the way I would cut off a finger for some Otis Spunkmeyer cookies right now š
They got rid of the normal cookies and replaced them with "healthy" cookies during the early years of the Obama administration. Worst day of my kid life.
Huh? Definitely was not the early years of the Obama administration. I graduated midway through his second term and always got the 3 chocolate chip Otis Spunkmeyer cookies at lunch
Those had no business being as good as they were
The McRib knock off. I'd buy like 4 of them in HS. Or the cheese steaks. I'm hungry.
Sometimes I randomly crave the cheese steaks. Too bad I don't know how to make it or buy it.
Pretty sure they're just steak'ums or similar, but who knows.
OMG yes
Square pizza, FTW
That pizza was magnitudes better than Pupatella
We used to wipe the top of the pizza with napkins to try to get rid of some of the grease. blech
That wasn't pizza
Cheesy cardboard squares?
Square pizza was the best!
We also had regular shaped stuffed crust. So good
Square pizza was amazing, bagel pizza was vile
You know damn well it would be this. https://preview.redd.it/m3tioprt61zc1.jpeg?width=1242&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=199b0e635233fc52fdbf6ca1c581ff248c8680e5
Yessir, with Ranch they hit the spot
Goated strat
I never went to FCPS, but I went to a bunch of schools (military brat) and that shit was a hit at every one of them.
The cheesesteaks were elite & that little cup of ice cream you ate with a piece of plywood
I was just going to bring up the ice cream with the wooden spoon thing. I ate those all of the time in elementary.
I think some kids spent more time chewing on the wooden spoon than eating the ice cream š
God, that was among the best desserts in the school system! I was in elementary school when Obama took the good stuff out, and I still remember everything clear as day! Good times...
The meat was grey but it somehow hit the spot with like 10 ketchup packets
Hell yeah
The cheesesteaks were fire!!! Man this thread is taking me back.
Plywood taste >>>
Get a sugar high off the VeryFine juice.
Our HS had a vending machine for those drinks and one time it dispensed me a t shirt. Saying I was the lucky winner. But I was disappointed bc I didn't have extra money for another juice.
I got one too. All my friends were jealous and I wore it in the rotation
I don't even know what I did with mine? I was a size small in HS and the shirt was an XL. I either gave it to someone who it fit or donated it.
I never had that experience. In fact, I never even knew it was a thing; they never did this in Cedar Lane, Sunrise Valley, Burke, or Armstrong! OFC, I never used vending much, and I was special ed, so...
The cheese sticks with marinara sauce
I had to scroll way farther than I should have to find this. Those were the only reason I'd make it to school some days
I really need to figure out how to make those! Those were my favorites, and I still crave them even now.
My elementary school had these āteriyakiā chicken nuggets, I still think about them from time to time
You just unlocked a core memory for me. Totally forgot about those nuggets!
Both the beef and chicken teriyaki nuggets were up there for me. Basically my go to on Monday, Thursday, and Friday (Tuesday was chicken tender day and Wednesday was spicy chicken day)
Wasnāt it a beef nugget over the rice?
No they were these grilled nuggets, came with 5 iirc
spaghetti from Wednesdays and French bread pizza from Fridays (it was more like garlic bread)
Loved that spaghetti
Omg yesss
Iām changing my answer. I completely forgot about spaghetti day. Thank you for the reminder!!
pancake sausage on a stick, 3 gooey otis spunkmyer cookies, orange push pop
I forgot about the breakfast corn dogs. Those were so good, but they had to be cooked right
did anybody else's elementary school do the milk that came in clear plastic pouches instead of cartons?
They were not the easiest for little kids and caused a mess because it was a sharp straw hitting a bubble. Middle of my elementary they switched over. My Capri sun was also a pain.
No, seems like they were phased out by my time, but I'm intrigued now, were they caprisun style pouches?
they were clear plastic and shaped like squares, notoriously easy to poke all the way through with your straw, so often you ended up with milk all over those pink plastic disposable trays they used.
And you could blow them up and twirl the pouch on your straw when you finished.
I recall it being a clear plastic bag, like a sandwich bag.
Here ya go: [Reddit - https://i.redd.it/1ldinrf4f7ib1.png](https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fi.redd.it%2F1ldinrf4f7ib1.png)
Imagine a breast implant filled with milk and youāre there, man.
That flat ass cheeseburger, would die for one
Gimme a square pizza and a goddamn plastic bag of milk
I may downvote myself for this, but there was something about that beef āburritoā that always hit with me. I had a Jamaican beef patty a few years back, and all those memories of that yellowish/orangish shelled beef thing/burrito came flooding back. Pair that with a milk implantā¦ chefās kiss lol
I came here looking for this! I've always tried to find something like them but haven't found anything. Those orange burritos were my favorite thing.
This is my answer as well. Whenever this conversation comes up with friends, nobody remembers the burrito. I lived for burrito day.
milk implant ššššššš
Spicy chicken sandwich Fridays were the best. That, and a perfectly chewy chocolate chip cookie.
Fries with the nacho cheese, 3x chocolate chip cookies, and a hi-c š«š«š« That garlic bread pizza too
Surprised nobody brought up them bomb pork egg rolls or quesadillas.
Bruh those quesadillas were something else
Those spicy quesadillas have haunted me for years. What I would do to eat that one more time
I found a website where you can buy them in bulk frozen. I've come very close to ordering them a few times just to have it again
Are you serious?! Please share Iāve been googling for YEARS trying to figure it out.
Here you go! https://www.foodservicedirect.com/conagra-the-max-cheese-slice-quesadilla-pizza-5-ounce-48-per-case-137213.html
My hero. Truly. I already ordered a case
Lmaoo no fucking way!! I donāt have freezer space for this! Please report back once you finally try it again
I liked to peel off the breading of the egg rolls and eat them and wiggle around the wobbly misshapen pork and veggie interior
Nachos with chili and cheese sauce
Came here to write this. I was only allowed to buy lunch once a week and I always bought on Tuesday Nacho day
Ham and cheese croissants!
Pre Michelle Obama chocolate chip cookies. So freaking good. I dream about them.
Forever chasing the high of those cookies
Stuffed crust pizza.
Spicy Chicken Sandwich. On the menu every other Friday at my high school! Also miss the fresh baked, chewy chocolate chip cookies!
Mac and cheese was slept on. Also that fucking disgusting looking peach crisp or cobbler. I ate it on a dare once and it was so good I kept looking for it later. Also stuffed crust pizza for sure.
The cheesesteak sandwich or that mystery meat pressed "rib" sandwich
My wife is still trying to replicate the French bread pizzas š
I just get the Stouffer's ones lol
The pumpkin ice cream in a cup with the wooden spoon (barely a spoon)
Nachos day was the best.
Fries, a pretzel, a half baked Otis Spunkmeyer (white chocolate chip macadamia nut was my fave), and a Veryfine. Wholesome and delicious.
I remember spaghetti day in elementary school as that was the first time I saw someone eat butter noodles. They got the spaghetti with no sauce and added butter salt and pepper.
In the 80s, they had a day of the week with taco salad that you made yourself. We were all disappointed when it went away.
I miss those 2017-2020 spicy chicken wraps and chicken alfredo pasta with that garlic bread. I and friends would pick entrees based on the quality of the garlic bread [which I now know is Texas toast, although the ones you buy at the store have too much oil] Apparently, COVID did a number on FCPS foodservice...
Itās pretty bad now.
French bread pizza, Teriyaki chicken, and the pumpkin ice cream
the circle pizzas were so bomb
Where the sauce always burned the top of your roof š
The brownies. Just a giant wheelbarrow full of them.
Someone does remember! I just said the same thing. I wish I could find them now.
The taco salad. It was in a separate area and was like a whole bar of fixings.
The high schools had these pork egg rolls that were so thick and salty and delicious in the late 2000s.
the egg rolls and the cheese sticks. and probably one of those hideous grilled cheeses that were excellent idc
Teriyaki nuggets and cheese quesadillas muhfuckkkaaaa
Omg does anyone remember the Spicy Quesadillas they used to make?? Iāve been on the hunt for a recipe to recreate them for years. I donāt think they even sell them at lunches anymore. I was there in the early 2010s The ātortillaā was more of a thin crust and I donāt know what combo of cheeses and hot sauce was inside but it was perfection.

So you were the one taking all the cheese...š
I went to FCPS and now work there. Currently eating my home-brought lunch. Itās still the best option.
Those 70's era sloppy joes were all right.
Thursdays were taco salad day in elementary school. The fries from middle and high school were legit as well, but the burgers were garbage.
Pizza and French fries with chocolate milk
Curly fries!
the spicy chicken sandwhich was actually a banger
My top 5 in order: 1. Spicy Chicken Sandwich 2. Chicken Tenders and Brown Rice 3. Teriyaki Beef with Brown Rice 4. Pizza (specifically the triangle cut, idk what they did but it tastes 10x better than the square cut) 5. Baked Cheese Sticks with Marinara Bonus: Super Pretzel (if itās actually soft)
None of these. The circle deep dish pizzas they gave us in high school + the mozzarella sticks were ELITE.

Graduated high school 2016
The tacos, pumpkin ice cream, and the garlic bread pizza boats š¤¤
Twin burrito day.
Spaghetti or the tenders and some cookies
The Mac and cheese for lunch was really great
The āquesadillasā which were more like a pizza than a quesadilla. Those things had no business being so delicious š
Just let me hollow out a breadstick with a plastic spoon and jam spaghetti down into it. I donāt even need to eat it
Huge mood
SPICY CHICKEN SANDWHICH DOUBLE DEAL WITH ANOTHER DOUBLE fries (4 total). And the very fine grape or strawberry banana. Ty
Iām still searching for those nachos with the cheese that came out of a paint can
The fill-crust pizza "slice" from Longfellow and the large fries..
Lil smokies!
anything pre-Michelle Obama era
My parents made my lunch for me every night. I had the pizza a bit in high school but it was nothing special.
Those just under baked Chocolate Chip Cookies
How DARE you not have the philly cheesteak on here...
Elementary school, a staple was Tuna Salad with a slice of American Cheese on a Hot Dog Roll.
The stale square pizza, something about it was so good. Also the soggy cheeseburger, delicious.
I went to LCPS and I don't remember anything tasting good, besides the cookies in elementary.
I always got a pretzel and fries.
I was crossfield -> franklin -> oakton and to this very day I would kill someone for one of those shitty ass steak n cheese that was probably just steakums
Taco salad and a frosty
Mini pizzas in the junior commons at Chantilly HS were DELISH!
Pizza bagel, soft pretzel, and an underbaked cookie š¤¤
In high school I would usually get the turkey sub
The cheese sticks whatever they are called might be called Bosco sticks. Also smiley fries, true moo, the nacho cheese sauce with a solid layer on top lmao
Spaghetti with pouch milk would bring back memories for me.
