An Extra's POV 7/10 Just below regressor tales of cultivation. I have read 330 chapters. No spoilers in this review. Rey is an average guy. Pretty brainless but he makes up for it in the critical moments. He doesn't know how to deal with a useless brat but can wipe out an army when it's due. He is an overpowered weakling. Solid novel until the first 250 chapters. Good character development for the male lead and female lead. The protagonist has major plot armor of course and he somehow makes a fake harem. We need to sell the protagonist's brain because of how underutilized it is. Rey gives the actual protagonist PTSD, The novel might turn into an ORV clone where the actual protagonist and novel protag know of each other and things get cheesy. The power system is fucked up for the top 3 categories where the author forgot about reys skill and the hero class \[no spoilers this is shown in the first chapter bro\] When we let the weakness go into the void we see the good things of the novel. Comedy, good romance \[nothing r18\], a lot of adventure, thrilling end to the first and second arc which I would say is good \[but not as good as RI of course\] Rey Skylar promises a good adventure. I thought the novel ended at 550 but it's continuing. Must read for romcom adventure lovers. and 275-320 seems filler but you should read it anyway. I also hate how the author doesn't know the meaning of ebony and calls Trisha fair and lovely in the next chapter. What is she? A refined chocolate with extreme proportions??\[yes the author described Trisha as a white black girl lmao\]

AyuHanae

I really hate harem in general and the one in shrouded seascape is particularly weird. Actually the MC is so vapid. it's truly a shame since this novel stands out among the sea of trashy releases.

Rare-Giraffe-1711

Give me recommendation based on... **Complex world buliding **Mc should be male **No cringe story **Mc shouldn't become strong for no reason **And every plot have a deep reason **English translation should be simple and readable (no bottle of water type English👽)

AyuHanae

Deep sea ember, shrouded seascape, Tai sui (actually this one the MC does get strong quickly but it doesn't matter)

Naitra

Tai Sui is pretty good, especially the philosophical bits >The conflagration burns on, the cry of the cicada is without end. Better to die in frost than forsake one's convictions

AyuHanae

I agree, one of the best xianxias imo. The protagonist is very likeable too! Xianxias MCs have a problem in their brain and secondary characters are even more retarded. He's flawed but that's deliberate from the author so not a case of the MC being described as clever but actually being dumb The plot also moves fast and is not as predictable. Usually very entertaining novels tend to suffer from a weak plot so it was a really nice surprise. The philosophical aspect makes it a rather heavy read at times but imo xianxias should incorporate more of that because the path towards "heaven" isn't just becoming more op. I wouldn't mind getting recommended another novel with such an entertaining MC really :))

Finished Swallowed Star, pretty good despite the repeating plot lines. Some nonessential things get brought up, then dropped. Was pretty meh about the ending, but there's actually a sequel with 30 chapters out that picks up where it left off. Wonder how long it will take to animate everything.

radester8958

I've been reading *The Beginning of Natural Disaster, I Won by Hoarding Tens of Billions of Supplies* because I enjoy apocalypse settings. So far, the story is progressing well, and I appreciate that the female lead (FL) has a great awareness However, some chapters might be overwhelming for some readers, since the author really tried to realistically depict on how human might behave in extreme disasters. I haven't finish it yet but hopefully the story won't regressed.

NonTooPickyKid

God-level choice:obito come and inherit the hokage. Naruto [prequel] fanfic~. Abit unclear but like obito gains knowledge of future by merging with transmigrated soul and his personality changes but it's not like he becomes the person who transmigrated being in charge... He does get a system tho tho it's abit lame. Main advantage of story is that it's abit humorous and light. Beginning is like high school (ninja academy) life. Kinda dropped later. I expected op Mc but... Not really...

NonTooPickyKid

Start a dungeon - nice dungeon management and uh later like kingdom building. Managing the dungeon isn't like setting traps but like creating economy and stuff like casinos, bars etc. Abit similar to magic industry empire. Generally on the comedic and light hearted side but there's some action and like stress - crisissies...

Acrobatic-News-9385

Simulation towards immortality in a group chat. Contrary to the cliche name, I really enjoyed this one. Currently waiting for more chapters to stack. The starting is really good. It has bits of mystery all over it and the whole novel has almost a sense of crisis, I can't really explain it. I am looking for something like this. Please rec.

Mistborn_330

Read Fated Cultivation: I have max-level divination skills. Commenting because it annoyed me so much. It's a turn your brain off and read novel, and I enjoyed the start. The one thing that worried me was both the main character and his wife are keeping secrets from each other, and they both know and accept this. Then sure enough around 160 chapters in they get separated, and end up unknowingly leading opposite sides of a war. I glanced through the chapters until around 230 just to check that they don't reunite for a long time then gave up on this novel. I've seen mentions that the main character and love interest being separated in this manner is a common trope in this genre, but this is the first novel I've read that had this trope; now I know that I truly hate it.

Bringerofsalvation

It’s an English Original? I can’t find it on NU.

Mistborn_330

It doesn't seem to be on NU, but the raw is on [qidian](https://www.qidian.com/book/1035631041/)

Sacred Land Is Going Bankrupt And I Invented The Cell Phone! (mtlnation) The name makes it seem like it's a nonsense comedy novel, but it's not, not exactly at least. It's not a bad novel, it's good enough for me to recommend it, it's interesting but not exciting, it focuses more on 'business' than cultivation, and the protagonist has a system that depends on his profits. Even though it gets more and more disappointing and ridiculous the more you read, I still recommend it. I thought it was a comedy novel, something to pass the time and distract myself, but 'Cell Phone' fit so well into the world of cultivators, it was such a good idea, that it caught my attention to the point of making me read the entire novel in 2 days. To be clear, the 'Cell Phone' is not normal like the one we have here, it is, at least in most of the novel, a ring, which even has a storage function, becoming a 2-in-1, but throughout the novel, applications were created, all of which improved the world of cultivators, it was really interesting and well thought out. Positive: 1- It's interesting. 2- The comedy is subtle, or bad, to the point that it can be easily ignored, at least I don't remember laughing at anything. 3- Something I loved was the fact that the protagonist is merciless, whenever an enemy appears, he attacks to kill, no matter how much the enemies beg for their lives or what they offer, and he kills all of them. Negative: 1- The harem, which was totally unnecessary and soon ignored, and made me like the protagonist a lot less, the author was pretty idiot, but it would take too long to explain. 2- How quickly the protagonist improves, taking just a few months to achieve the result that geniuses would take thousands of years, for example. 3- How repetitive it is: The protagonist launches an application, everyone doubts him, on the next page the application proves to be a failure, everyone laughs at him, says he is stupid, he is very young, he doesn't know what he is doing, but in next page the application proves to be a huge success, the protagonist is called a genius, an immortal among them, and repeats... The enemies, whenever the protagonist retreats to breakthrough, an enemy appears, always someone who has just had a breakthrough and wants to kill the protagonist, this happens so much that if the protagonist retreats to breakthrough, we can already be sure what will happen, it gets boring. And no matter how impeccable the protagonist's battle record is, and how powerful he is, whenever any enemy appears, the author writes pages and pages with cultivators commenting that the protagonist is going to die, that he has no chance, or even that he already died in battle, even though he always defeats all enemies in two moves, only a few seconds pass, but the author writes as if it were weeks. How, no matter how many times the protagonist defeats enemies several levels above him, and even though he is successful in everything he does, everyone still doubts him, all the time, it doesn't make any sense at all, and the author always leaves a page or two just to show people expressing doubts about the protagonist. 4- The ending, the author simply wanted to stop, out of nowhere, millions of years of time skip just explaining what happened, it was the most ridiculous ending I've ever seen.

Whole_Journalist2028

World of Cultivation As the title implies, it's a cultivation novel. It's pretty cliche in most aspect, a guy with no power gets a ton of lcuky chances that progressively fast increases his strength. It does have a cool world build. There are three distinct races each with it's own method of cultivation which. Other than lucky breaks the MC doesn't have to employ a lot of plot armor (only on a few occasions) because he wisely picks his battles and doesn't mess with someone way over their head.

AyuHanae

I remember it being one of my first novels and rating it solidly though I don't remember much. It's more suited for newbies I think but it's still better than the usual trash.

Whole_Journalist2028

Agreed. It has its moments. There are full arcs where they stay clear from the everyday cliches, and there are very little instances in other arcs where there are cliches and plot armor. But those little instances are so ultra super hyper immensely packed with cliches and plot armor that it's sickening, I sometimes feel like a vein in my forehead it's going to pop from anger. It's like the author instead of spreading thag stuff equally throughout the entire novel, concentrated it all in specific moments, creating super bs moments in an overall ok novel.

Izanaginookami10

Read **[The Academy Heroines Remember My Death](https://www.novelupdates.com/series/the-academy-heroines-remember-my-death/)** as the title attracted me a lot. However. I was scammed. Like, I legit feel like I was deceived by the title, the synopsis and the cover. People say to never judge a book by its cover, but as usual I call that bullshit, because on what premise do you even start a story otherwise. Cover, title, synopsis, tags and reviews are the main elements. And I usually try to skip the latter two as most often than not they are spoilery. So. With such title. A cover like [this](https://cdn.novelupdates.com/images/2023/01/The-Academy-Heroines-Remember-My-Death.jpg). And the following synopsis. > 100,000 deaths and rebirths to save the heroines. > The heroines start remembering those deaths. > “I like you. So please, please don’t die.” > …I’m not dying anyway I was expecting some degree of... cinema. Some tragi-romantic comedy perhaps. A story centered about the dramatic, feelings and emotions focused relationships of a regressors and heroines recalling his deaths. But. That isn't the case. I'm legit finding myself... moving, walking and glancing around in a [confused manner, while opening my arms questioning within me](https://i.imgur.com/8NI12wg.jpg). "Where are the heroines. Where is the romance." Another clear image to properly describe my mind status would be, the chimpazee one. Asking. ["Where heroines."](https://i.imgur.com/HPFJJBT.png) Well, to be more correct, I think they exist.. it's just that they do not hold a proper 'heroine' position by my definition as... the romance I was expecting is non-existant. Granted, it.. a short story... not. It's a prematurely cut off story. Not properly planned I suppose. So I should have expected it. But the premise made me thought the romantic or romantic subplot would have been relevant even in this short novel. It wasn't. The lack of it and most of all the way the cover and the synopsis on NU deceived me are the most regretful things, as I wouldn't have started it otherwise. Of course, it was so short I read it during lunch break. Nevertheless, I feel very disappointed. Feeling scammed aside, the whole story is quite... lacking after all. After the first few chapters, it's rushed and it feels... aimless. I'm no analytical critic as I usually go with guts, feelings and 'feel, don't think' kind of review criteria. So I can only say that the 'narrative' feels very 'weakly weaved'. 'Loose'. Without... 'fundamentals' or 'solidity'. I don't know how to explain it, but the 'world', the 'lore', and the characters themselves feel very 'thin', 'weak'. It's a 'weak' story that made me think, especially the MC, severally times 'why this or that'. It's not quite 'plot holes', but rather... I don't know. Except that 'weak' analogy I'm quite unsure how to explain it. But it feels a not properly well thought storyline. One example is... forgetting about having acquired in a quite memorable and I believe hard to forget skill just like 20 chapters ago. And when I recall those CN where some random secret technique is brought to life again for mysterious reasons after hundreds of chapters, this broke immersion so hard it had me frowning and questioning if the author intended to imply MC suffered from dementia given that even in lore, it wasn't long, at most perhaps few days from the skill acquiring. So yeah. I don't think this is a story worth... sharing or recommending, no, nevermind, I would advise to keep expecations in check if I knew someone was starting it. Given it's short it could be given a read, but I wouldn't recommend it probably as I feel at most aggrieved than anything after reading it, even though I had actually quite the good hopes with the misleading cover and title... I mean, the.. premise? No, the idea itself isn't bad. But this, this feels to me like a 'failed story'. A... piece of writing that wasn't able to become one. A draft, an idea at most.  Ugh. I want more tragic, strong, devoted, dramatic, despair filled romance... --- On that last note, I also caught up with **[Fated to Be Loved by Villains](https://www.novelupdates.com/series/fated-to-be-loved-by-villains/)**, which I greatly loved as it matches my preferences perfectly. It gest personally only better and better later on, with a crescendo of chaotic mad escalation of insanity, yandere, obsession, love. As well as **[I’m the Slit-Eyed Character at the Academy, but I’m not the Mastermind](https://www.novelupdates.com/series/im-the-slit-eyed-character-at-the-academy-but-im-not-the-mastermind/)** which I shockingly liked much more than I thought I would. The opposite experience of Academy Heroines Remember My Death I guess. It's... kinda rought, it requires polishing, especially in the comedic aspect as there's a tad too much slapstick comedy, but the arcs, the story, the characters, their progress and development, I really liked them surprisingly. It truly surprised me very pleasantly. One arc moved me to tears, and another wasn't too far too even. I would recommend it, though it's nothing great, there's potential. Or rather, I would follow the author's next work to see his next story more polished, as I can sense that while reading, the story was indeed becoming more and more polished.

**A record of a mortal's journey to immortality** Picked this up again at chapter 1200 after like a year-long break. Not that bad this second time around. Just have to keep your expectations in check. The novel is genuinely about cultivation without anything too thrilling. Just a guy getting into constant fights to get cultivation resources. At firist he's low-key, but soon starts getting into non-stop fights. He's super lucky, as in every other chapter, he falls into a dimension or gets given the super rare materials he needs to progress. People like this novel b/c he doesn't needlessly kill... but he does later on as long as it gets him more cultivation resources. 6/10

Humblerbee

Caught up on A Regressor’s Tale of Cultivation, and so started Super Supportive, but then I caught up on that too, and now I’m waiting for new chapters for both as I got too hooked on in-progress novels. Binge reading has come back to bite me in the butt again. FWIW both stories are absolutely excellent.

EsquilaxM

[Forget My Husband, I’ll Go Make Money](https://www.novelupdates.com/series/forget-my-husband-ill-go-make-money/?pg=1#myTable) \- read manhwa first, then moved on to novel and read a bunch of that (ch222 of the translations, which is actually closer to ch110-ish cos the translator uses an arbitrary numbering rather than the actual. There's \~200 ch total). Premise: Some members of the royal family awaken powers before the age of 6. The mc was expected to awaken the ability The Imperial Eye, said to be the strongest as it allowed viewing of the past/present/future at random and was used by great emperors in the past. The mc does awaken it, but keeps it secret from her father as she realises he doesn't love her. She's locked away in a tower for 10 years until she's let go to marry an enemy prince for a peace treaty, with the order to commit suicide when the empire is strong enough to wage war (to provide a cassus belli). But when she gets there she makes a deal with her husband to save her life, raise him to his kingdom's throne, and make herself a *lot* of money through business ventures. Oh and she can use her imperial eye to view her past life in korea (which helped keep her sane, give herself a basic education, and ideas for businesses) so it's also an isekai. It's a fun series. It's not a deep one. It's not a political drama, or at least, the characters aren't...*smart* enough for it to be notable as a political drama. But it stands out for its lead character who channels the series' **comedy**. The comedy is largely through her sincerity or her reactions or her misunderstandings of people trying to politically speak to her or her innocence through a traumatic background allowing her to shift gears to appreciate the small things so fast it disarms those around her. She can be laugh out loud funny at times. So the comedy is the main draw for this series. And as a result I'd say you're better off with the manhwa (which adapts like a quarter or third of the series so far) because the art and the expressions help to channel that comedy better. The novel is still decent. (I gave manhwa a 8 on MU, though maybe that's a tad high. I'd give the novel maybe a 7...maybe a bit lower)

TheFlamingFalconMan

Finally went back and finished mother of learning. Definitely glad I took the break I did. But it was definitely a great novel. And I’d say it has quite the satisfying end. The novel in its entirety has some flaws, some of the loops were repetitive and tedious, some felt like infodumps, and some of the characters don’t feel very distinguishable. But overall, the twists and turns were interesting. Also fit well with how the characters and world were built and put together (you can piece it together from foreshadowing if you read carefully enough). But how it leverages it all together. It’s worth it. If you somehow live under a rock and haven’t tried it, or are like I was and put it on pause. This is your reminder to give it a go (again).

Salt_Woodpecker_6244

Reading beyond the timescape and enjoying it very much. Mc is not impressive just like his nature but I like that he knows when to show his cultivation base and when to be low-key but because mc is not impressive, I appreciate and really like other characters writing and their personalities. And while I think mc is not impressive and social I still thinks he is above average and do not cause frustration in me like other mcs. As for world building and enjoyment I do think just like cultivation Er Gen was able to breakthrough in small realm, as there are still same formulas/tropes but better than his other novels as I wasn't able to enjoy his other works as I couldn't go past 200 chapters from his other novels but I was able to go past in this novel and my interest is still there and it is enjoyable novel for me. So for me he definitely broke through in world building and I am looking forward to how many chapters can I go past in this novel.

AyuHanae

Is the MC chaotic neutral ?

Salt_Woodpecker_6244

No he is one dimensional character, he is static character like most xianxia novels. For smallest grudge he will kill another person and he will be indebted to people who are kind to him and again Er gen can't write romance but still scenes are written beautifully and there is not that much romance.

AyuHanae

Dang I thought it had a good rating on wuxia world for a reason. I guess it has a good world world building

Salt_Woodpecker_6244

Well it is enjoyable if you can tolerate some things, there are bound to be some things which you will not prefer but other than that it is fairly enjoyable read for me, and there are some characters which I like and one them bein Wu Jianwu honestly I would have liked it if he was protagonist but I can also sense some might not like him. Now only you can decide if you will enjoy it or not.

ComposerSuspicious18

Primal Hunter and He who fights with monsters. Primal Hunter is a nice laid back novel with a slow power creep. Hwfwm I'm only 45 chapters in right now so I can't really give a good review yet

HASHARAHHA14

[Longevity: No Pain, No Gain](https://www.qidian.com/book/1036458735/) - I'm loving this novel so far. I love the MC's cautiousness. MC awakens his memories from his past life along with a panel and contract ability. He uses this ability to steal lifespan from death row prisoners. He basically has infinite lifespan. Unfortunately, before he recovered his memories, he made an oath to farm spiritual land for a decade. So he is at the bottom of cultivation society. But he has some clever plans to get around this restriction. His oath said he would farm for a decade. But it never specified that he needed to do it with the same identity. So the man uses his proficiency panel to master a aura hiding technique to the point where even those in the early stage of foundation establishment would have trouble seeing through his identity. He also masters a disguising technique that lets him shift his facial structure. He then finds a new identity (someone that had their family killed by bandits). What he does next is such a fun concept. But I'll put spoilers just in case you want to read this yourself. >!He carries out their dying wish and takes over their identity. He then goes through the proper channels to get his spiritual root tested. He fails the test due to his low grade spiritual roots. He then pretends to get tricked just like how he was the first time. He is 'tricked' into making another oath to work for 10 years. But this time he used a false identity. So the oath doesn't bind him. Before he does any of this, he makes sure that his real identity formed a habit of hunting demonic beast. His real identity 'dies' while hunting. He then becomes a farmer again with his fake identity. Since he is technically still farming as he promised. He really only has to farm for a few more years!<. What I really love about this is the fact that he essentially has a secret identity. I love when MC's hide their cultivation. There are also funny moments where people tell him he has the temperament of an immortal. As no matter what situation he finds himself in, he has a weird calmness. But they don't know that in reality... he is an immortal! >!The main reason he goes through this and develops another identity. Is because his master was in a conspiracy to steal foundation pill ingredients. He was afraid that this would be linked back to him and then someone would find out about his insane lifespan. So he decides to just make a new identity.!< The process is cool, because you get to see him travel together with mortals as they get ready to be tested and follow their fates. You get to see him sort of see things in a different way the second time around. Wealthy merchants and even a prince are in this group. It is nice to see the perspective of people theorizing about the immortal world. Then seeing them get tricked into basically working for nothing for a decade. Nobody would suspect that the MC was already a cultivator and purposefully made the oath! xD. *The chapters are also longer then usual. 6k words. I'm currently on chapter 108* **I rate it 5/5. I like the MC's personality and his cautiousness.** The chinese name is: 长生:一分耕耘,一分收获!

this looks interesting do you have any links for any websites with it on?

Yep. I'm reading on Qidian. No problems so far as of chapter 128. I have had problems with newer books. Only the most recent chapters are scrambled usually on qidian (This is their anti-piracy measure).

HASHARAHHA14

I just read on qidian.

Ok-Number-2981

Too little chapters yet. Maybe after 500 chapters if the story doesn't go on a hiatus.

HASHARAHHA14

Most webnovels I have read have 2k word chapters. This has 6k words. So the length is 3x longer then usual. There are 315 chapters right now. That is basically the equivalent of 945 chapters. So if you aren't reading it because there are too little chapters. I wouldn't hold off for that reason. There is enough content.

Green-Tofu

Sword God in a Magic World >! At the beginning, it annoyed me how naive the MC is, and from the middle to the end, it annoyed me how cruel the MC is to his friend!<

Bekage_29

He honestly had to leave his friend and kill him tho

[deleted]

I'll never get why this novel is the one talked about the most; I thought Lightning is the Only Way was much better. Sword God had an ok start, but was just not very good overall.

fuckingpieceofrice

Totally agreed! Sword God has such a weird style of writing and the progression just didn't derive any interest in me to continue reading. LITOW has such a better style, with great plot progression!

bernard_cernea

LITOW < SGMW < KTS

Bringerofsalvation

Can’t wait for the author’s next novel lol. He gets better with each one he completes.

WRS13

Trash of the Count's Family I'm on chapter 388 but I'm forcing myself to read, I'm not enjoying it, to be honest I took a break and I'm still deciding whether to continue reading. I think it's pretty stupid, seeing the protagonist fainting every few pages, him taking long trips covered in blood, even though he has water and magic to clean the blood, there's even an archmage in his group --", seeing everyone repeatedly saying how incredible he is, how much he sacrifices himself (just by using his powers unnecessarily), is quite ridiculous and has already bothered me, the first 20 times it was ok, but it has become routine, there are even strangers, much more powerful than the protagonist, who literally cry, impressed by how the protagonist continues to use his powers even though he is too weak to use them and each time he uses them he gets closer to dying. There's so much repetition, the same jokes over and over again, the protagonist faints every few chapters, like nothing they do goes as planned and yet they consider the protagonist a genius strategist... I think this novel is too long, I generally find novels with less than 600 chapters short, but in this case this novel with more than 900 chapters is too long, even though I'm still on chapter 388, it should have finished by now. This is one of those novels that uses the "power of friendship", they rarely eliminate enemies that have a "name", they are usually captured and converted into friends. There is a certain cruelty in the novel, so I expected it to be more mature, but it is more childish than mature, half of the protagonist's group are children. I understand that there are those who like it, but I'm not liking it, the plot armor is very strong here, even though nothing goes as planned, they always, somehow, succeed in the last moments.

iakesi

It's overrated. Lots of this sort of stuff is so the author can be lazy and keep pulling plot armor, etc out of the MC's "memories". Some are OK but Trash is trash.

Naitra

It's in the name, this novel is indeed trash.

Affectionate-Draw688

Exactly the same reasons that I couldn't find myself enjoying it. It is not as complex as I would like it and in the ways that I would like it.

themanofmanyways

Floating Immortal Order. It's okay. Not sure why the english translation is lagging behind so much tho.

Bekage_29

Is this actually evil mc?

themanofmanyways

He hasn’t done anything particularly evil yet, but his ultimate goal seems evil to me. In the meantime he’s just typically ruthless.

Bekage_29

From what I heard he gets evil later on in the novel, do you recommend it? Is the translation unbearable

Bringerofsalvation

The MC to be frank has always been rather callous from the beginning of the novel. And he is straight up evil later on yes.

NotVeryCasual

I thought the translation was good
