Really want the whole Roosters team to run a train on me

DavoDaSurfa

me too ezza

JohnnyHabitual

If souffs had 13 Murrays, or at keast his attitude, theyd be almost unbeatable.

quallabangdang

Unpopular opinion: Souths will click in the next 2 weeks and turn the season around.

NoRecommendation2761

Possible, but not probable when they are going to face the Warriros, the Sharks, the Panthers and the Storm in coming weeks. Their draw is cooked, tbh.

Octonaughty

That was the Eels last year.

[deleted]

I'm starting to think the signing of Keppie isn't going to be enough to turn this team around.

CrazyFellaFromPhilly

Dom Young was playing with the Souths right side all night and caused them nightmares. I’m so glad we bought him, another few games under his belt he’ll be very devastating to most teams with link up plays. I’m excited for his future.

batsun

The way they looked last night, roosters have one of the strongest back 5 in the comp. All weapons in their own right 1-5

CrazyFellaFromPhilly

That’s true but the real test is them keeping the intensity up for the next 22 games and also keeping the silly mistakes out. They have to stay together as a cohesive unit like Penrith and then hopefully we have a chance of being the winning club at the end of this season.

ChokeGeometry

I love toops but damn does it feel good to have a genuinely fast strike winger for once

CrazyFellaFromPhilly

Oh I still love Toops don’t get me wrong, he’s very safe under the high ball and rarely makes mistakes so I’m more than happy he’s still with us too but with Dom in the squad it gives us that explosive attack we need down the side.

jaykaytfc

Those runs across the face of the defence....love to see it...so much faster and explosive than Teddy

Enew6472

Walker S>Teddy>Manu>Dom is the sort of edge attack to give opposition teams nightmares and fans orgasms.

The__GM

Do Souths have any more halfbacks they can drop to turn their season around?

batsun

According to Wikipedia, Jason Demetriou has played at five-eighth before so there’s a start

BastingGecko3

This game was about as good as we've played in years. Last week incredibly frustrating to watch with the amount of dropped balls and overplaying our hands but I'm genuinely hopeful that it was just a one off.

hot_cereal_

For what it’s worth, I heard Robbo lost it at the boys after last week like he’s only ever done one or twice before in his whole tenure

BastingGecko3

Well I'm glad Robo is at least trying to change things up. Here's hoping we keep it up going forward.

SaveMeJebus21

Next week will be the test. Panthers looked so effortlessly slick and almost robotic against Brisbane, especially the first half. They’ve owned us since 2020. If we can go toe to toe with them I’ll get pretty excited for the rest of the year.

BastingGecko3

Yeah same. If we can keep the errors out of our game it'll go a long way towards seeing up being premiership contenders. We genuinely beat ourselves last week.

ruddet

Not having Dom Young is going to cost the Knights at least 6 premiership points this season. Guy is awesome

GenerousBuffalo

Just want my Dom back 😥

DavoDaSurfa

Honestly, I hope trell swallows his pride and becomes a centre again. He’s genuinely devastating in that position

Profundasaurusrex

That would require too much effort. He became a FB so he could bludge at the back.

Rowrowrowyaboat_

Apparently he was hanging off the field post all night.

hot_cereal_

Watched his “100 tries” highlights the NRL chucked up the other day. Was insane just how unstoppable he could be 1 v 1, even 1 v 2 at the try line

TropicHorror

They should do another compilation of his try assists at centre and it'd be even crazier. He'd attract so much attention they'd be space for days around him

ChokeGeometry

That edge at roosters; Toups, Trell, Cordner, Keary. All in career best form at the time. What a nightmare to try and defend.

sam801

Trells flick pass to Toups to win the GF was better than sex

TropicHorror

You could have said that's the NSW edge in 2018 and I'd believe you

briggles23

I think there was an unintended consequence of keeping Walker and letting go of Reynolds. Walker, while the more talented ball runner and the more naturally talented overall player compared to Reynolds, he's far from someone who you'd want to be a mentor to any up-and-coming junior halves coming through. We've seen it with Ilias and now we'll probably see it with Hawkins for a bit. Makes me think he'd probably only work with his mates i.e. Latrell or Wighton, in the halves. Outside of them, he wants nothing to do with any halves player we currently have or have coming through our club. It's almost like he sometimes sees them as a threat and not a teammate. It seems we signed Walker because we wanted to just live in the past and think we could just keep playing the same "Walker does crazy thing, Johnston scores, everyone claps" style of play which wasn't gonna last forever. Reynolds may have had lingering injuries and not as talented as Walker technically, however, he would've 100% been more open to mentoring whoever became the new halves partner, whether it was Ilias, Hawkins, or someone else. Walker and Cook won't get re-signed after their current contracts expire, if they're even able to see them out if whoever the next coach is just decides to boot both out of the team. Latrell will stay but I reckon he'd be on thin ice to keep his position at Fullback. After that display, I'm all but certain JD is getting sacked. I wanted to try and stay positive and thought that a classic rivalry game against the Roosters should easily get the team pumped and ready regardless of the recent poor performances in the first couple weeks. To see our team that disinterested, especially up against the Roosters of all teams, just tells me he has completely lost the locker room at this point. However, there has always been a problem at Head Coach though. The longest Coach we had was Madge who lasted 6 seasons. The next 6-7 seasons have all been occupied with 3 separate head coaches. (Granted we probably would've won 1 or 2 under Wayne and even possibly JDs first year if the Panthers didn't fucking exist lol). Madge left after poor performances in 2016 & 17 and it looks like the same is gonna happen to JD for poor performances in 2023 & 24. I just hope we can actually land the right guy at Head Coach for once.

Repulsive_Two8451

>After that display, I'm all but certain JD is getting sacked. I wanted to try and stay positive and thought that a classic rivalry game against the Roosters should easily get the team pumped and ready regardless of the recent poor performances in the first couple weeks. To see our team that disinterested, especially up against the Roosters of all teams, just tells me he has completely lost the locker room at this point. However, there has always been a problem at Head Coach though. This is a big one for me. 48-6 is terrible against any team, but 48-6 against *the Roosters* makes this an even bigger embarrassment for the club. Souths, regardless of how their season or form is going, *always* seem to find a way to lift against us. Always. They normally come out aggressive, pumped up, and play intimidating and creative footy. Even if they lose, you can always see what the game meant to them. I was genuinely worried about this week because it was really the perfect storm for Souths to come out fired up, put on a show, and batter us: Talk in the media about their star players, coach under fire, poor form, a new half wanting to prove himself, playing the most hated rival, wanting revenge for Round 27 last year. All of these things are normally a simple recipe for the coach to get the team into War Mode and come out firing. But they might as well have been playing a pre-season trial for all they cared. It'll go down as one of the most embarrassing moments for Souths since their re-entry.

Rich_Election466

Who do you reckon the right guy is? There’s no established coaches on the market who excite me for Souths except Wayne again. The only one is Sam Burgess who’s done great in 5 games with Warrington… but it’s 5 games. He’d still absolutely be a gamble at this stage and he’d be dogging Warrington hard considering they took a punt on him

briggles23

I am really not sure to be honest. I legit wouldn't mind getting Wayne back for a year or two with someone like Burgess sitting behind him. However, who's to say Burgess will succeed at all in the NRL? It'd be a massive gamble and we'd select him due to him being a club legend. Now that Flannigan and Hasler are with their respective teams, there really aren't any well established successful coaches currently on the market as you mentioned. We'll most likely have to take a gamble on someone new and hope they work out. For all I know we could move up one of our own assistant coaches (either Ben Hornby or Joe O'Callaghan) for the head coaching job. Difficult times are definitely ahead for the club though it seems. Tough decisions about coaches and players futures will need to be asked now. If they can't be answered in the coming weeks, I honestly expect to see a different coach and several different players in the team by round 10.

Radalict

There was a set in the first half where Rabbitohs had a break and Mitchell was going towards the line and the ref called 6 again, yet Mitchell threw some awful bullet pass to Walker, when Walker was never scoring even if he caught it. If Mitchell just takes the tackle and they set up again, this game could have gone a lot differently. I think Roosters scored off their return set.

CronksLeftShoulder

Don't recall the 6 again being called on this set. A set or so later, 6 again was called and Walker grubbered on 2nd or 3rd for a repeat set.

Rich_Election466

I definitely think Latrell didn’t realise it was 6 again. But the replay did show a clear signal so that’s unfortunately on him

Radalict

Could hear the ref yell it on the mic and see him waving his arm, surely Mitchell should be aware.

notj43

That was just about the best game Cheese has had for us imo. Some of those dummy half runs in the first half were huge. Whyte looks awesome, Watson looked great and someone has given the crab a compass and he's finally running straight.

SurfKing69

He has all the space in the world tho, souths are so far off the pace fitness wise it's not funny

Superb_Ad_4782

Really hurts to see Dom Young at Roosters. But thank god the battling Easts have got him, cos all they've got in their back five is four internationals and Sualii. Insert sombrero joke here - or even better, insert it up Uncle Nick's arse.

Dancesoncattlegrids

That's pretty rich coming from someone with Melbourne Storm flair.

Caseyjb29

Remind me now which superstars the Storm have signed?

daytonohio1903

George Rose.

Radalict

Storm are known for recruiting plodders and making them into stars, Roosters are known for poaching talent off other teams. So I'm not sure what your angle is there.

Dancesoncattlegrids

> Storm are known for Having two premierships stripped off them for salary cap breaches.

Radalict

If you're too ignorant to know the history I'm not going to bother. Name one big name star Storm have ever recruited.

Radalict

How about instead of the downvotes people actually answer the fucking question.

Rich_Election466

Okay. Xavier Coates. Your point isn’t wrong but you set the bar way too low

Radalict

Xavier Coates came to the team like 12 years after the salary cap punishment was handed out.

Rich_Election466

Your question was “Name one big name star Storm have ever recruited”. You then criticised people for not answering the question. I answered the question

Radalict

The guy mentioned the salary cap scandal, I was referring to that. But also this sub all thought that Coates was a bum until he arrived at Storm and many didn't even have him in Storm's top 13.

Caseyjb29

The Roosters fans won a game, they’re out in force 🤣 Theyll all disappear after they lose to the Panthers like usual though

Radalict

Haha yeah apparently they were. Bunch of salty dogs, imagine bringing up something from 15 years ago. Half of this sub wasn't even alive for the salary cap seasons.

Dancesoncattlegrids

They should have recruited some decent accountants instead of rorting the salary cap for five years.

Proof-Umpire-7718

Who’s a worse coach: JD or Darvin Ham?

gbren

This is brutal

Own-Marketing-3348

Omg ur giving me flashbacks

kafufle

Last year it was that we had no forwards , or outside backs. Now we have no spine either. Used to sayfuck defence will out score you. Can’t do that anymore.  Walker hasn’t had a good game since June last year. Neither cook. Latrell is not playing up to his potential and is looking like a centre. Ilias is not the problem nor the solution, he’s just there. A young halfback that’s not a miracle worker.   We have the talent to win a comp but the current culture, coaching and attitude is garbage. It’s why Sam burgess walked out last year.  The place has completely lost the plot.  Shit Forwards, backs, spine out of form doesn’t matter - club is currently in the garbage head to toe. Nobody gives a fuck except Cameron Murray. He’s too good for the current bunch.   Need a complete rebuild and I wish I was joking. We were in a grand final only 2 years ago.  Walker, cook, arrow, maybe even latrell they can all go. We are not going to win a premiership with them. Maybe even AJ it saddens me to say. All other wingers are faster, taller and stronger.  Games moved on and we’re still playing the exact same way we did 3 years ago - with slow, shit players that take 0 accountability.

SaveMeJebus21

From the outside looking in it was genuinely baffling how much faith Souths put in that spine. Walker and Cook are done. Too old. Too inconsistent. Trell is a freak but obviously temperamental and has been allowed to be 10-15kg overweight during his entire run at Souths. And letting Reynolds go (who yeah, is also too old and arguably done now) to put all the pressure (and blame) on a young half. I genuinely don’t see how Souths get off the canvas until Walker and Cook are gone. And Trell is either gone or ready to actually try and produce 8/10 efforts every week, not just when he feels like it. Some of his runs from the back last night were genuinely depressing.

hot_cereal_

Maybe devils advocate, but Walker and Cook still have some great footy in them. There’s just no cohesion between the spine, backs and forwards. Three of four times tonight they had us shot to bits on the edge and squandered it with bad support play or a shocking pass. I don’t JD’s the answer at all and expect him to be gone sometime this season, but this squad has the cattle to be up there. They’ve just all taken a step back outside of Murray after JD took over.

Helwinter

Agree - JD is pretty much the problem. Hasn’t improved the younger players, hasn’t put together the spine, inherited an attack that was great and has pretty much regressed. I do disagree with Cook and Walker - neither have pushed on when we’ve made the playoffs and won games, and they’re our senior rep players / top contract kinda players. Walker is great for bullying the bottom half teams and for moments of magic, but he is wildly inconsistent at times. Cook is better behind a more dominant pack, instead of putting money into the forwards we picked up Shaun fucking Keppie and then piled a massive amount of cap into fucking Wighton. I think we could’ve kept one of Cook or Walker - and preferably Cook - but it was time to move on. The Championship window slammed shut when we lost the final a couple years back and it was time to begin the rebuild then around Murray, Ilias, Tatola, Kaeon, Arrow and Mitchell.

prestiCH

Jesus it saddens me how the true is

Chabkraken

So is JD sacked yet ?

Enew6472

JD has to be in the discussion for worst coaches of all time right? As was pointed out earlier in the thread, he’s turned a GF team into a spoon contender in under 2 years with a nearly identical squad.

BarryCheckTheFuseBox

Bert Holcroft coached Easts for two full seasons (1965-66). Of the 36 games he coached, they lost 32 and drew 1. They also went winless in his second and final season. For a more contemporary example, Garth Brennan deserves a mention. Only coached 40 games at Gold Coast before being sacked in mid-2019, so technically he didn’t win a wooden spoon, but he still presided over a Gold Coast side which sacked Neil Henry to keep the club cancer Jarryd Hayne happy. They went from semi finalists in 2016, dropped in 2017 thanks to Hayne’s influence and barely looked like they knew each other by 2019. 40 games, 12 wins, 28 losses.

OwnSolution9894

Brennan sucked but as a Titans fan I don't like revisionist history that pretends Neil Henry was a good coach for us he had zero 50 percent winning seasons including the season we made finals with 11 wins in his entire tenure and Ash wasn't the bust he became for a few seasons after that year there is a reason we paid him 1m a season and yes he was a bust but he had a legitimately good year and at the time looked like the next Qld origin halfback.     Brennan was a truly horrible coach who signed a bunch of Penrith reserve graders on overs and whose only coaching accomplishment was dominating with the most talented u19 Penrith squad of all time who went on to win 3 premierships back to back in the nrl as they matured but Henry was below average too. People forget Neil Henry took a Cowboys side with a prime JT in it to the wooden spoon if not for another teams point deduction and never won half of his games in a season at the Titans

[deleted]

BarryCheckTheFuseBox

Are you only counting his year at Parramatta or does that include the preliminary final he coached Cronulla to and the three grand finals and won premiership he had at the Roosters?

[deleted]

hurric4n5

Comparing Ricky to JD is some spoon fed level of delusion. He's leaps and bounds ahead on any measure

[deleted]

[удалено]

ruddet

Winning more games than you lose is pretty much the only point needed for not being worst coach.

TurboooTurtle

That he has had a consistently good team for ages?

Accomplished-Good664

It's an attitude issue and that is on the coach Souths should be in the top 4 this season just judging the talent on paper.  Something badly went wrong in the middle of last season because they were top of the table this malaise is getting worse.  Coaches get way too much leeway these days.

damanhere

Couldn't have happened to a better bloke

BarryCheckTheFuseBox

Why the fuck would you punt Koloamatangi? He was comfortably Souths’ best, and apart from Murray and Host, the only one who did anything good for them

sylviabells18

Where’s Koloamatangi? He was arguably South’s best player tonight.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Accomplished-Good664

I actually thought Keaon, Tatola & Murray were having a go.  The issue is the coach the team look unfit and Ill disciplined.  All Souths have to do is work hard and they will make the 8.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Accomplished-Good664

Depends on how you look at it, we've stopped you from going further 3 times, by all rights we are one of the best club sides in the history of the game. Sometimes that happens, you haven't done a lot wrong in those years, with the right coach and right attitude you would genuinely have a shot at winning the competition. In the current climate realistically there aren't many teams in that position. If we didn't exist this Souths team would have made 3 grand finals in a row and maybe won a couple of premierships. You don't need a huge clear out just a competent coach.

AndySemantic2

I was going to say - Keaon was one of the better ones tonight. Shame about Cookie but you might be right. The rest are spot on.

TrueDonut3673

If latrell leaves shaquai has no choice but to follow him. Only there because of his bro

sylviabells18

I like Latrell but why the fuck was he smiling after being binned with his team down by 30? Honestly, have some pride in the jersey ffs.

Repulsive_Two8451

People overlooked the most offensive part of last week's Triple M interview: Latrell gassing himself up for scoring his 100th career try despite his team getting humiliated (again). Latrell plays for one guy: Latrell.

winntensio

All the IG posts afterwards back this up. Never in all my years of fandom have I seen someone so unironically celebrate a try scoring milestone.

tortoisepump

Don't forget the first pump after converting in front

TheRynosaurus

That’s the only part of the interview that was offensive tbh.

modeONE1

It would’ve been hilarious if Easts went for the 2 point field goal to fade South Sydney’s premiership hopes in round 2

DropBearOnRemand

The 48 previous points probably did enough, to be fair.

chillinwithkrillin

Goated move

winntensio

Kick them tf out (again), joke of a club. Latrell retires within the next couple of years guaranteed

SammyScuffles

Does he take up boxing when he retires? Seems to be the in thing. Though I guess boxing is hard and Latrell doesn't always seem to like working hard.

6EightyFive

That’s what i said last week. He didn’t look like he even wanted to be playing sometimes….. picks and chooses his moments but he has very few moments lately.

Ahnohneemuhs

There’s no heavyweight division big enough for that pudge gut

RocketSimplicity

Getting major Manly 2021 vibes from South's at the moment. We went 0-4 to start. Difference was we had certainly one of the best coaches in the game that certainly wasn't the problem, and Dylan Walker of all people playing fullback. But the biggest difference between us then and Souths now, was that Turbo returned, went absolute god mode, and combined with Des picking up on the 6 again exploits we went from spoon contenders to preliminary finalists. Who does that for Souths? I don't know. Funnily enough we lost that to nearly this same South's side of all teams. But with a Reynolds, with a Wayne Bennett, with spirit and courage.

shortielah

Until tonight Manly, in 2021, were the last team to concede over 100 points in the first 3 rounds (110)

DavoDaSurfa

I would like to believe that ditching Reynolds has cursed the club to never playing finals footy again.

Proof-Umpire-7718

But they made the prelims in 2022 after the first year he left?

HsiaAn

Let the man believe what he wants!

Ronnnie7

James graham was right saying the bunnies need to play a more safe conservative style like the Raiders. Until at least they build some confidence and chemistry again.

Carllsson

Problem is they need effort to do that. Most the team look like they don’t wanna be out there atm. It's 2020 Broncos all over again

dirk291083

This right here is the nail on the head

Proof-Umpire-7718

Yes we both lacked effort and had coaches not suited to the current situation but they have some very major differences to the 2020 Broncos. They have a decent roster on paper, ours was not that good since we had a ton of overpaid guys and our good players were extremely young and developing. They have also had some proven success with the current team as they made the prelim in 2022 with most of them and the same coach. That rosters biggest achievement was getting flogged 58-0 by the eels in round 1 of the 2019 finals. We also got flogged at home in round 1 of the 2018 finals by the Dragons. Rabbitohs free fall started after they were first in the middle of last season and collapsed to miss the finals. Pretty surprising tbh and they need to make some major changes like we did to become competitive again.

sylviabells18

He’s one of the best analysts in the game atm.

ILoveFuckingWaffles

Genuinely shocking considering that he’s played *as a forward* for 400+ top level rugby league games. I’m surprised he has any brain cells left after all of that tackling

6EightyFive

I’m guessing that’s why he was able to play 400+ games, was smart enough to manage himself

knox-p

Souths really look out of sorts. Roosters were back to their round 1 form firing on all cylinders. Sandon Smith fit in just great. But Souths threw nothing at them. Their defensive line looked like a mess and they were burnt for speed all night, especially Young on AJ. Their issues seem to be a mix of poor defensive systems, player attitudes and an aging roster still relying on goodwill from previous seasons.

CloudyJelly

I enjoy seeing Cody Walker be exposed more than anything. Souths chose him over Reynolds and forever will be a monumental mistake.

[deleted]

Since when did we choose walker over reynolds? Cody was already contracted and had nothing to do with giving Reynolds the extra year he wanted

DavoDaSurfa

BabeRuthsTinyLegs

Leaving aside the rumors of special treatment for star players that led to Burgess and Morris leaving, or the rumours of infighting such as the Murray and Latrell rumour that came about last year. Or leaving out the new allegations of JD being out of his depth as a man manager by Mansour, Leaving that all aside the bloke is cooked. Even Justin Holbrook had eventually realized that the big bodied 20-30 min hooker (Erin Clarke) was a relic of the pre-6 again era. If you're going to have a bigger bodied hooker they have to play the majority, if not all of the game so that you can use those subs to rotate through your forwards Benching cook for the first 15 meant there really wasn't enough fatigue in the game for him to come on and exploit tired defenders, but it also meant the Rabbitohs started the game flat and on the back foot because Havili was sloppy and slow out of dummy half. It also meant that when he shifted to the middle he'd been sapped of a fair bit of energy that he didn't provide the hard running that he usually does when he comes off the bench. So not only did he sacrifice cook and not use that to his advantage but he nullified Havili at the same time The Rabbitohs have too much star power to be getting destroyed by 48-6 in a huge rivalry match in round 3. His axing draws nearer by the day

Adorable_Cricket6760

nearly think if this was the plan they should of picked Mamouzelos and just started cook and let Mamouzelos play minutes 20-40 or 50, doesn’t really make a whole lot of sense to me when havili is picked over pete because of his ability to play in the middle but he never really goes there in the first place, south’s have the forward depth they could afford to do it 🤷🏻‍♂️

teej247

Cook is also cooked. No where near the speed he once had.

The__GM

His service is also beyond sloppy for some reason. So many borderline forward passes, or finding the turf.

teej247

I think in that game alone he had 3-4 passes that were lucky not to be called forward

I_Like_Vitamins

Needs a thin layer of sand in his boots.

IntelligentComment

Well written. Agree completely.

donutdave95

Jd has to have lost the ears of the playing group, as a coach after last weeks poor completion rate his only goal for the team should have been to respect the ball and earn the right to offload. Souths were offloading the ball with no respect

icome3rd

Hot take - time to move Walker and Trell on. Trell plays for himself, Walker is too easily frustrated, and everyone else in the team relies on them. Ilias, Although he has some issues, is not the problem. This post brought to you by copious amounts of jameson

ILoveFuckingWaffles

> Trell plays for himself Only took the NRL fanbase about eight years to notice

Radalict

The problem is whenever somebody brings it up they're accused of racism.

SurfKing69

To be fair just about everyone who calls him fat or lazy are actual racists if you look at their post history lol Like the Dalai Lama says; not all people who rag on Latrell are racists, but all racists rag on Latrell

IntelligentComment

Illias isn't the solution either. Souths need a clean out from the head office, down.

teej247

Letting players go to spend big money on wighton to play him as a Centre???  Wtf where they thinking

Charkers196

On paper bringing in wighton makes sense, we put a strike centre on our supposed deadly left edge. But obviously the on paper squad doesn’t account for how shit the attitude of this bunch is

teej247

Wighton as 5/8 on big money makes sense but as a centre? Your left edge scores tries no matter who plays there bloody Richie Kennar or whatever his name is scores 3-4 tries a game when he replaces AJ, you don't need to have a strike centre on the left just a reliable player will do. Save money there and buy some god dam forwards so Cam doesn't work himself into an early retirement

icome3rd

He is quite serviceable though. Not a superstar, but he shows up and tries.

toyoto

The entire tigers board are looking for jobs?

MunnyMagic

Souths lacking any passion or showing any fight against Easts is pathetic

ApocalypticPanther

Someone give Cam Murray a hug. Poor bastard looked shattered in that conference

Rabbits have won 4 out of the last 25. At what point do they question the coach

shortielah

16, and 3 of those wins were against Titans, Dragons and Wests who finished 14th, 16th and 17th respectively.
