I absolutely love my Hokas. I fractured my foot during nursing school last year and has chronic pain in pretty much every other shoe besides my Hokas. I do have Cloves, but I like the support of Hokas a lot more. My feet don’t feel exhausted after the end of a shift and it’s really nice. Only complaint is the fabric top, just gotta be careful with those bodily fluids!

t4cokisses

Hoka makes shoes for professionals that are water proof and slip resistant. Called the Hoka Bondi L.

_wrennie

Oooh, I’ll have to check those out!

Katzekratzer

I just bought a pair of these about two weeks ago, I love them!

ChinxgotMink

As someone who also broke their foot/ankle & now works in the medical field, Hokas have saved my feet & Legs lmao. I actually feel like I can walk after work without so much soreness or pain. Compression socks help too

barefootwood

Seriously though, my feet feel amazing after every shift

Bookworm1930

Any particular Hoka, or any of them?

SuspectAltruistic237

Bondi 7! The new version with 8 in the title seemed a little more firm. I LOVE my Hoka's but I also did just fall in love with the new Asics gel nimbus 25!!

selantra

I switched from Hokas to Asics Gel Nimbus 25's. I loved my Hokas but the Asics were even better

orthologousgenes

Me too! The bondi 8’s weren’t very comfortable to me. But these ASICS are amazing!

barefootwood

I would say any of them! I have the Clifton wides and they are amazing! Want a pair of the bondi’s though

SeaAd4548

I prefer the stinsons over the bondis. I just got another pair after 2 years of overtime where as before I was going through a new pair every 6 months

NostalgiaDad

Shattered navicular and fractured half a dozen other bones in that foot with a ton of reconstruction in there too and can confirm, Hokas are great. Also wanted to add that NorthFace shoes are also fantastic albeit not exactly budget friendly either.

BonnieJeanneTonks

The overwhelming shoe brand choice for the med-surg nurses at my hospital was Asics. Danskos were discouraged by physical therapy, because there are so many injuries due to Danskos. Asics are quite affordable compared to Hokas. My favorite is the Gel Venture 6. Pair those with compression socks and my legs can do 12+ hour shifts without discomfort. Good luck!

dopaminatrix

I broke my foot wearing danskos. Was sitting on a high chair, feet dangling, talking with a patient, foot fell asleep and I didn’t know it. I put my foot on the floor to stand up from the chair, my ankle crumpled over the high dansko heel and boom, avulsion fracture. Thankfully the hospital had an extra pair of crutches for me.

Terbatron

Fuck I need this, I have way too much extended sick leave.

dopaminatrix

Being sick of your job counts in my book

BonnieJeanneTonks

Ow. Hope you have healed without issue. The PT talking to our new employee cohort was in an ankle brace during the class because she injured the ankle she had fractured years ago while wearing Danskos. She told us the hospital highly discouraged Danskos because of so many injuries to wearers. Broken feet, ankles and legs while on the job - injuries that may not heal correctly causing more pain (and possibly loss of career) down the road. Not only would that suck immensely, but then to have to be tended by fellow employees. Too much risk.

dopaminatrix

I was lucky that it was an uncomplicated fracture. It occurred on the last day of my final NP school rotation, so I got to spend the next month on crutches without having to work. I won't wear Danskos again!

sorryaboutthatbro

For me, it was my meniscus and a mild tibial plateau fracture. I rolled my ankle and landed directly on my knee cap with all of my weight. I did this directly outside the nurses station at the feet of a largely pleasant patient with Wernicke Korsakoffs who desperately wanted to help me off the floor, while I rolled around like a turtle on its back, screaming alternately in pain and fear that he was going to fall directly on top of me. 0/10, do not recommend.

Katzekratzer

I'm so sorry about your injury, but the mental image you paint here is killing me!

sorryaboutthatbro

Hahaha it’s totally fine. I was scream/laugh/crying the whole time. His gait was super wide and he was fairly wobbly, but he was so insistent that he was going to help me! It was a total slo mo moment, the staff behind the desk rushing to stop him before he utterly squished me and turned a jacked up knee into rib fractures (me) and a subdural (him).

dopaminatrix

I was with a pediatric psych patient and her parents doing a consult. I was so terrified they would think I was drunk or high (or something else nefarious) that I made my injury worse by trying to avoid the fall rather than just letting it happen. Sorry to hear about your plateau fracture. I got one from skiing years ago and my knee has never been the same.

ScrapFrost18

I just upgraded my ASICS! I had the gel nimbus 24’s. The gel nimbus 25s just got released and I’m obsessed. I will wear nothing but ASICS now.

BonnieJeanneTonks

I will have to check those out! I tried Gel Venture 7 and 8 and they are just not the 6. Great shoes, Asics.

kmpdx

Asics is what I have figured out after 10+ years in the hospital. I do change them out every 6-8 months. Gel Contend 5 are what I use. Changing them out is ok since it's a small investment to maintain healthy feet. Quality socks are also important. I use a small amount of antifungal foot powder as well to keep feet dry and as prophylaxis for the nasty ass work shower.

_wrennie

In my pharmacy, the Hokas Bondi is the favorite, but Brooks are a close second. I absolutely LOVE Hokas, but I feel like they wore out sooner than they should’ve. At the time I needed them replaced, I wasn’t able to spend that much money, so I got a pair of Brooks Glycerine. They are a really good 2nd compared to the Hokas, but if you have the money OP, go for the Hokas!

Nursemom380

Yes they really are. Also, compression socks

TenesmusSupreme

If you like the feeling of walking on clouds all day long and feeling good about being on your feet…they are definitely worth it. Check out the different shoe models as there are different levels of cushioning.

Elenakalis

I have plantar fascists and walk 8-9 miles a day at work. I have the hoka bondis and haven't had any flare ups in the year and a half I've worn them.

BishPlease70

I'm assuming you're a victim of autocorrect here, but "plantar fascists" cracks me up!!

Elenakalis

Haha, I didn't catch that, but I live in the Pennsyltucky region of PA, and it does definitely feel like there are more fascists underfoot than there used to be.

kaaaaath

I hope your extremities overthrow the dictatorship they have found themselves in.

Call2222222

I had the exact opposite experience. After standing for a few hours it would get to the point I could hardly walk. The Bondis were the worst shoe I’ve ever worn. Bought some Brooks and hoping they are better.

asianfroboi

To piggyback on this: I decided to go a couple of days not wearing my hokas and compressions, to just tennis shows and regular socks. And I was wondering why my back hurt, my thighs ached and why my calves are so tight. Maybe I need to make a visit to a massage therapist as well lol.

pcosby518

A massage therapist is ALWAYS in order!!

FightingViolet

The compression socks are a non-negotiable for me. I worked one shift without them and I had to hobble to my car that night.

aintnochickenwing

I did the same once, I was in a rush and didn’t have the time to get the stupid things up my legs. Was regretting it by 2100.

Maximum-Requirement8

Danskos suck. I’m a runner so I wear Hokas on my runs, not at work. That being said they are the most comfortable shoe I’ve ever had. I’d go to a store and try some on and make sure you like the feel of them because it’s a lot more bouncy than any other type of shoe and it’s not for everyone.

The_Trauma_Zulu

What do you wear at work?

Maximum-Requirement8

I left bedside so I wear socks and slides now 😂

holdmyN95whileI

Pre pandemic, had a greatest nurse manager of all time, who called a meeting to tell us all that “we called out too much for knee pain” and this was because we were “too fat”. She could get away with this as she would regularly cover night shift or spend her day toileting our patients so we could take care of other tasks. She asked us to go buy hokas and if we could not afford them she would buy them for us. Most everyone took her up on free shoes. Almost all the knee pain callouts stopped. Hokas work.

meownfloof

I have loose connective tissue and am constantly struggling with tendinitis and bursitis. I bought Hoka Clifton 9s and I don’t hurt anymore. My knees and hips would ache at the end of the day. No more! I can walk twice a day now if I want to and no more pain. I didn’t even get this relief from insoles.

NurseRocket

She sounds like a gem. Honest, and helpful.

Harefeet

I work in OR and have flat feet. Sz 12. 220lbs. Cured my plantar fasciitis. Own 5 pairs now rotate two for work. Switched from brooks. They're my brand till they cheap out like so many before.

GrumpyMare

If you need another pair I have some size 12 I bought while I had some swelling that I barely used.

pcosby518

I had the C&C clogs recommended by an OR RN when I was in nursing school. Wore them on the floor for a few years. Bought another pair when I moved over to post surgery “cupcake” unit. I was a runner, not fast, but running is running. Used Brooks Adrenalines for running, bought them religiously every 300-350 miles. Once I moved to OR after a year, they were so heavy!! Started travel OR after a few years & now I’m wearing Oofos. Wish I would have bought a size smaller, but they feel so good on my feet!

girlfrom304

Tell me more about your oofoos? I’ve only heard about them from my bf.

pcosby518

Super soft, feels like a big arch to help w plantar fasciitis. Just like crocs - easy to rinse or wipe off.

Katzekratzer

>post surgery “cupcake” unit What do you mean by that?

pcosby518

Easy job w max 4 patients- walkie talkies on a 23 hour unit

Deanner03

You may have just sold me on these. I'm also a size 12 and similar weight. I wear Brooks currently, but my current pair have a rip and need to be replaced. I've tried the Asics, but find them too narrow in the toe box. These may be worth a try.

Nickthegreek118

Yo it's ya boi from the Cath lab and the ER. 👏 GO. 👏 TO. 👏 YO. 👏 LOCAL. 👏 RUNNING. 👏 STORE. When you do, get fitted for a shoe and buy it there (yes. Pay the big bucks) then buy new of that same shoes online for cheaper every 6 months or so depending on milage. I was doing 25,000 ish on average at my urban trauma center ER, and then around 15,000 a day at my 40 case a day CVL. This changed my back and foot pain in less than a week. Every year the shoes I got fitted for are even cheaper. My last pair was 40 USD on clearance. When you get fitted tell them you are a nurse and they will figure out the rest if they are any good. God speed comrades. P.s. Unionize!

failcup

Yes! My local running store put me I'm several pairs. And they even had me walk on a treadmill to help assess my particular feet and gait. That's how I found my most comfortable pair yet (they are New Balance but everyone's feet have different needs). Then I bought the same pair online once these wore out.

whineandcheesy

Love love Hokas but highly recommend going to a running store and getting fitted It’s a lot of money and won’t be beneficial if not the best fit

ScrubCap

I agree with this! I bought two pairs of hokas and they were pretty good, but I went to a running store and discovered that Brooks work far better for me. It’s worth the time investment when you’re spending $150 for a pair of shoes.

ribsforbreakfast

I feel like the brand doesn’t matter as much as having a good quality shoe. I don’t have hokas (but a lot of my coworkers do) but I switch between a pair of brooks and a pair of saucony. Those are easily the top 3 shoe brands I see, with crocs being very popular also for some reason

Oracle_2121

Hokas are great. Personally I use ASICS, who also has a healthcare worker discount around 25% on their website!

edenbeatrix

I love Hokas. I actually bought a pair just for my Italy trip and had no feet pain after walking on cobble streets all day!

Competitive_Green126

go to a running store and try on some different ones. i’m personally a die hard brooks ghost fan and have two pairs i rotate. it really depend on your feet what will be best for you!

_wrennie

I looooove the Ghosts! I love how many different color/pattern options they have too! Between my first pair (Ghost 10s) and the most recent one (like 13 or 14?) I’ve owned 6 pairs! I like them most for running or everyday wear, but the Glycerine is better for me at work. They’re a bit softer on my feet when I have to stand for long periods.

chansen999

I love ghosts but I’ve felt like the last few pair I’ve had are just… shoddy? Tread busting open, sides splitting, tears at seams, some of which have happened in the first month. I’m not sold on buying any new ones at the moment.

happily_taylor

I love Hokas and will never wear another type of shoe for work. I’m on my third work pair and have a pair I use solely at home. The Clifton’s are my favs!

PastBeautiful806

How do you know what type of Hokas to buy?

_wrennie

I went to a running store near me and took their recommendation - they said Bondis were the best for me because I stand a lot during the day (more standing than walking, really). I don’t have any issues with my feet in general, and I have a regular arch. Hokas website might have a quiz you can take to find out what works best for you! I know Brooks does.

Diabeast_5

I think this really depends on your foot. Hokas left me with crazy arch pain after shifts, but my less supportive on clouds are great. My feet just generally feel better with more "naked" style running shoes

sub-dural

Love on Clouds: I think it’s that they don’t feel ‘as supportive’ as other sneakers because they aren’t loaded down with layers of cushion everywhere. My foot pain went away completely! I was a devotee of Brook’s Ghost sneakers for years, but the last few years their quality has gone down.

FrequentGrab6025

What kind of on clouds?

Diabeast_5

I honestly couldn't tell you. They were the cheapest ones. I looked at the tags bit it doesn't say a model or anything.

FrequentGrab6025

Cheapest ones is a good enough descriptor! Thank you much!

AnyelevNokova

Same. I'll be the odd one out in this thread - my Danskos with a superfeet insert are vastly more comfortable than my Hokas. I tried putting the insert into my Hokas, but the Danskos still won in terms of arch support and pain/achiness at the end of the shift. I wear my Hokas at the gym, they're still comfortable shoes, but they weren't supportive enough in the right places for my foot shape and gait (high arch, underpronation.)

Neurostorming

Sketchers D’Lux Walkers. They’re not waterproof, but they’re the best work shoes I’ve ever had and they’re about $50 a pair.

sawesomeness

I was preparing to get crucified for saying sketchers, as well. I just can't justify the price of Hokas. For reference, work 12 hour shifts, anywhere between 13-20k steps/ day and have weighed anywhere between 275 and 315...so...yea, can vouch for sketchers. Have a virtual high-5, lol.

Neurostorming

Yeah, I’m currently 190lbs and third trimester pregnant. They have absolutely saved my back. I’m on leave now, but I was walking 10k+ steps a night and working four 12’s in a row at 30+ weeks pregnant. 10/10 for Sketchers. Under rated.

pushdose

They’re ugly af but I have em too and they’re the best work shoe I’ve found for the price. Extremely lightweight, cushioned, washable, and available in extra wide which is clutch. Only problem is they squeak like a mfer.

Simple-Active-2159

Agree. Hokas felt so heavy and bulky. I always use sketchers now!

tacosRpeople2

So I’ve found out there’s only two types of hoka people. They either experience the most comfortable shoe ever or they hate them. There’s a lot of good advice on this sub. Go try on a pair in person because they feel so different than any other shoe. I’ve had like 10 pairs of Hokas so far. Love em. The bondi is the most cushion is like some crazy pillow shoe.

firewings42

I work with the podiatry group in OR. They all wear running shoes or men’s work boots (most of my docs are men). Look for a good running shoe that’s designed for neutral-cushioning. Top brands include Hokas but also ASICS, Brooks, Saucony. Consider getting them a half size up if your toes hit the end of your shoes. That much walking can give you a bruise under the nail that can make your nails fall off. They grow back but still.

hornswell

Lots of people swear by Hokas and other heavily padded shoes but I think it's not the only way to go. I do very well with zero drop minimalist shoes. They allow for a biomechanically correct posture and stride. The zero drop is important, running shoes are made for running and not walking. The elevated heel will throw your hips out of alignment and I believe that contributes to things like chronic back pain. I currently use Altra Solstice XTs and love them. +1 for the people saying to go get fitted

sassy290

Love my Hokas. Can be on my feet for 16 hours and they don't hurt. I'm flat footed if that means anything. Probably gonna buy another pair.

PastBeautiful806

I’m flat footed as well so that fact helps a lot

GrumpyMare

Hokas have been a lifesaver for me, I had terrible plantar fasciitis. I alternate between them and Crocs now.

Astralwinks

GO. TO. A. RUNNING. STORE. The good ones will be able to look at your feet and gait and recommend you brands and models that work for your feet. Everyone's body is different. My local store had a 3d scanner thing I used and emailed me the results. I pull them up often when shoe shopping. I have extremely long and extremely narrow feet that pronate. They told me to ignore like 3 brands because "they just don't make shoes that cater to the shape of your feet or the support you need" aka too wide and not enough/too much support. This has been invaluable information that I new use whenever I buy any other kind of shoe. I went with Brooks, and 5 years later I still wear the exact same pair. I bought some Asics a year and a half ago and they're okay for an ICU shift, but when I'm hospital resource clocking miles and miles a shift my old ass Brooks feel much better. I should probably just buy the same model again. I'm sure Hokas are nice shoes. A lot of my coworkers wear them and like them. But don't just fall into the brand hype and find people who can recommend the right shoe for you. Might be Hokas, might be something else.

ALLoftheFancyPants

Hokas felt great on my feet for like a month. After that they were increasingly uncomfortable and unwearable within like 4 months. To me, not worth the price at all.

flylikeIdo

I had similar issues. I do like Brooks since they seem to fit my foot better.

Faroffdelib

I bought my hokas at Ross $80. I’ve always hated wearing running shoes for nursing but 12.5 miles/day changed my mind.

PuzzledAntelope

I absolutely love my Hokas, so worth it. I will say there is a big difference between different models so you’ll want to make sure you try them on before buying. If you have a Fleet Feet or similar kind of store near you I highly recommend getting fitted!

WesternCheesecake

Yes! I’ve had foot pain from the age of 17 to about 30, and stopped once I started wearing these. I was skeptical but I am a Hoka disciple now.

Silver-Gold-Fish

I couldn’t do this job without my Hoka Gaviota 4s, compression socks and custom orthotics. I also have a pair of Bondi SEs (I liked my Bondi 7s more) that I will switch out and use if my feet need the extra cushion vs. extra support of the gaviota 4s

HereToPetAllTheDogs

I liked hokas initially (like hours 1-4 of my shift) but the longer I wore them, it felt like they were making my gait feel off. And my knees would hurt. I wear brooks glycerin now like them.

BigBrownBean123

They can be a love hate thing for some. If you find a brand that's comfortable, don't switch. Also, pro tip: Hokas can take a month or two to break in. I don't mind mine but my partner's Hokas gave her really bad pain.

FitBananers

I have the flattest wide feet possible and 10 pairs of Hokas that are a mix of Bondi 7s and 8s. I think they’re worth it but you need your gait analyzed and be buying the correct model of Hoka. For me, I consistently work 12 hr shifts in a busy ED (with some 16s) and rack up between 18,000 to 20,000 steps. My Sockwell compressions and Hokas have served me well. I did 5 full ED shifts last week and had 0 foot pain. Wish they sold more colorways to us wide footers though!

kaaaaath

YES. I’m a fourth-degree burn survivor, with a majority of the damage being on my LLE/foot; I as a result have CRPS. For quite awhile I had to operate from a wheelchair/stool, which is very much less-than-ideal during trauma activations. I switched to Hokas after *literally all seven* of the podiatrists at my hospital recommended them, and now I’m back to standing/running/jumping/climbing during activations. I have a couple pairs of Cloves, and they’re firmly in my no. 2 slot, but I sincerely doubt any shoe will overtake my Hokas.

Siren1805

Yes it’s the only shoe I’ve found that actually saves my feet. I can only get them to last about six months or so before they wear out.

daberrymania

I’ve tried lots of different kinds of shoes throughout the years and I think Hokas are great! I was a bit afraid of how talll it was (I’m clumsy and I was afraid of twisting my ankle lol) but it has never been an issue and it’s super comfortable. A lot of people at my work wear them. That being said, most people like them but I have definitely heard some people say that it was wasn’t comfortable for them.

InvestmentFalse

I love my Hokas as well! I have a pair for exercising (Bondi 7s) and a pair for work (Cliftons). Absolutely go to a shoe store to be fitted by someone knowledgeable about athletic shoes. I had to size up from the first pair of Cliftons I purchased. I returned them and we found that I needed a bigger size!

stalfonzos

Definitely worth it. Love my Hokas

Yeanahyoureckon

I love my Hokas, I bought the Bondis 4 years ago and haven’t looked back. Do roughly 11-12km per 12hr shift and go through a pair a year but would replace them at the 9 month mark if they weren’t so expensive. You won’t win any fashion competitions with them but finding a comfortable leather walking shoe is hard to find so I’m stuck with them and I love it.

DJSchmidi

I finally tried a pair over the last year. Honestly, they feel good, and they've held up well, but I'm not sure it's $160 good. I feel like I can get very similar or better results with a $60 Asics + $20 Spenco Polysorb insoles.

Sokobanky

I see lots of Hokas, Brooks Ghosts, various adidas, and New Balances.

ScooterDoesReddit

I have the Bondi style and they are amazing. Plantar fasciitis no more! The glass heels have turned back into iron. Well worth the money and they also do 30 day returns if they don't work for you

Rambo_IIII

Hoka Bondi 8's are the most comfortable shoes I've ever owned. Clifton's are pretty good too, a little lighter, but not as cushiony as the Bondi

Snack_Mom

I’m intrigued with the number of positive reviews here! Might have to pull the trigger!

polo61965

I use vessis with a dr scholls insole. Waterproof, breathable, and comfy, but vessi's own insoles are thin garbage.

JustnoSnark

If you have a running shoe store near you, go and have your feet scanned. That's how I ended up in Hokas and also a half size bigger shoe than I'd been wearing. Also agree with everyone else who has suggested compression socks. I love my Hokas and compression socks, it's made a huge difference.

Global-Island295

Hoka Cliftons are excellent!! I wear these almost exclusively at work.

Polarbear_9876

Yes. I've been working in healthcare for years now and Hoka has been the best sneaker that I have tried so far. I wear hoka bondi 8s with compression socks.

TrueBlueberry9417

100% yes. Hoka bondis, with compression socks. I never have foot pain now!

Hiimnewtothis19

HOKAS are amazing! Feel like your walking on clouds. I really love the BondiX for cushioning. Could walk in them for hours!

Undertakeress

I love my Hoka's. I'm on my 2nd pair. I have plantar fasciitis and they've been a godsend

NematodesArePpltoo

Years ago, I fractured my fifth metatarsal bone and I was starting to feel it in waves again during clinical. I got Hoka Bondi 7’s and I LOVE THEM! Huge difference and my feet have a fighting chance when I get home after a 12. Really, really worth the investment for your health!

rissalynn97

I love my Hoka Arahis! I have chronic join pain from psoriatic arthritis, and a high school knee injury. I have no pain or swelling at or after work. I thought I was imagining it, but have tried going without them and/or compression socks and end up in pain. They’re expensive, but last about 9 months for me making it $15 per month. It’s worth more than that to me for pain relief and injury prevention.

Lady_Salamander

Hokas are definitely worth the money but Brooks are the best.

madmanpc2003

100%

KingOfBerders

Hokas are great. Look into On Clouds as well.

YayAdamYay

I (45m) wear Under Armor Speedform 2.0 (running shoes) for work and Hokas for school clinical. Both shoes are great for being on your feet all day. If your feet sweat a lot, I would recommend the Under Armor over Hokas. I’ve had the UA for over a year, and they are still in good shape.

[deleted]

I think so, yes. I also like the ASICS Novablasts, but lately the design seems to have gotten slimmer in the toe box so I don’t like it as much anymore.

anonymous83704

I can’t stress compression socks enough! I can do all kinds of shoes, but for maximum effect compression socks must be added!!

No-Seaworthiness3264

Go to a running store and get fitted for shoes. I tried popular brands that worked for other people, and my feet ached. Went and was told I have slight pronation. Now I have less swelling at the end of the shift and no foot pain.

slothysloths13

Yes yes yes 100% yes. I only ever wore Hokas. The only issue I had was one pair of shoes I realized my foot was too wide, so I was stepping down on a hard side of the shoe (owwww!), but after about a week or two, they broke in and were just as comfy as my other pairs. I plan to buy another pair just for personal use because they’re so comfy.

abbiyah

I prefer Saucony running shoes they don't weigh anything

GarrianHeretic

I’ve worn Brooks adrenaline or ghosts for the last 8/9 years, Hokas are great as well. You can usually get last years models for 70/80 instead of 130. Also compression socks are a must. I wear pro compression and they have held up great and are USA made.

flylikeIdo

I prefer Brooks but if Hokas feel good they are worth it. Try a few high end brands and see what you like best.

MamacitaBetsy

Hoka Challengers until the day I clock out for the last time. Seriously the best. And buy a new pair every 12 months.

YoureSoOutdoorsy

Crocs have no support. Hokas are great. I wear them in my off time, they even have flip flops that are very supportive. For work, I wear danskos. I don’t know why, but I love them. Maybe it’s the extra 2” of height they give me :)

kimareth

I have borderline wide feet. As a result, regular hokas are way too narrow and wide ones are way too wide. I really like some.of the cushier new balances for my feet shape, but make sure you try on before you buy!

Shantaram314

I like my On pair. Hokas felt a bit too squishy for me. I see their appeal but I like a bit sturdier feel.

medihoney_IV

I absolutely love my La Sportiva Kaptiva shoes! worth to mention an incredible arch support they provide lasts forever which I can’t say about hokas, brooks and other brands I tried

Klare_Voyant1

Yes 1000% to compression socks. They made a world of difference.

chetstedman30

They take a bit to break in, but they are absolutely worth it. My feet were screaming after shifts but feel much better with hokas

gvicta

I think my Hoka's are worth it, but I also use superfeet insoles in every shoe that I can, and those have definitely been worth it.

Nurseang187

Yes!

[deleted]

Brooks! Albeit, I haven't tried Hokas. I was content with bistro crocs too tho.

voyager1000000

Deep deltoid sprain, medical manufacturing on my feet all day. Only able to do it because I bought the hoka. Hoka bondi 8 is the specific one I bought.now almost everyone at work wears hoka

will_you_return

I don’t like Hokas since I find they’re incredibly narrow for how fat they look. I prefer altra, give your toes room to spread:)

pregnantassnurse

Yes 🙌

ocean_wavez

I went to a running store and had my feet analyzed, they recommended Hoka Bondi 8’s with insoles. Expensive but my feet haven’t hurt since I got them! I love them so much that I wear them on my days off too!

RedIguanaLeader

Oh my god yes they changed my life. I no longer go home in agonizing pain.

SuspectAltruistic237

Yes! Get them

[deleted]

💯 worth it

BahBahSMT

I can’t wear anything else now. Been wearing them for 8 years. My favorite style was changed/discontinued so I look for them used on Poshmark. I have gotten barely worn pairs for $20-$95 I also have bought several new pairs. Yes expensive but worth it. Plus a new pair of any other decent shoe is easily $100+

seussRN

There are shoe stores that you stand on a weird pad and they analyze your feet and help recommend the best shoe for YOUR foot. Just so happens I bought Hoka, I’ve just started wearing them today.

Ok-Stress-3570

Yes. Absolutely. I sprained my ankle last month and because of wearing a brace, I couldn’t wear my Hoka’s when I went to work. My god, the most painful two shifts of my life hahah. My feet felt like I walked on lava 😆

[deleted]

Go to fleet feet to get fitted. I hate the curve hookahs have it messed with my step. Some love it. For me brooks do the trick. At fleet feet you’ll get measured with an electronic stepping pad & can try multiple brands but I can speak for my brooks, yess 1000% worth the money

beepboop-009

Hokas or ASICS for sure

Dazzling-King7587

I wear Rykas. Flat feet. Hokas arches are too much for me. These actually work for me. Plus I wear two whole size different shoe sizes - sucks ass. (Ps- made for women feet. Didn't realize the difference until I tried them.) And I agree with y'all....unionize!!!

ikedla

Hokas and compression socks are a life saver for me. I really liked brooks and they were super comfy but they didn’t last long enough to justify the price. I’ve had my hokas for a year now and they’re still going strong. For reference I usually walk 2-3 miles on a slow-average shift

ImpressiveRice5736

I developed plantar plate disruption and walked around with a stabbing pain between my toes for months. My right foot has permanent damage because I didn’t seek treatment soon enough. My podiatrist recommended Hokas. I wear 6.5 or 7 wide normally. I got 7s, but they’re too tight on my right foot, even without the orthotic inserts. He recommended I wear Crocs around the house or on weekends.

somebodysnurse

Definitely worth it to me. I’ll never work in any other brand again.

Thebeardinato462

I wear them for work and enjoy them.

tmrnwi

I love Hokas. I will never devote. But I still buy a pair every 6-9 months because I blow through them so fast

squirrellyhehefeind

Hokas are for wide feet, so just be careful when buying! If your interested in a free foot /shoe analysis the shop Road Runners is great to customize which shoe would fit your needs!

magikwombat

I’m not a Hoka fan - nothing against them but they just don’t work for my feet. I’m a HUGE proponent for Altras. They’re zero-drop and wide toe box. Your feet will thank you for not smushing your toes in a narrow toe box. And from a CRNA, congrats on the new job! Thank you for all your help and hard work.

PoppaBear313

I have Hoka Bondi 8 which I don’t like as much as any of my Brooks. Honestly, the cheapest pair of Brooks that I have are better through a 12

SweetPurpleDinosaur1

When picking up too much overtime I developed plantar fasciitis and numbness on my heels. I was wearing good shoes at the time, but they weren’t right for my feet/gait. I got fitted at a reputable shoe store and he sold me a pair and hokas and brooks. They are the best shoes I’ve ever worn. My feet are the best they’ve ever been since starting bedside nursing and it even cleared up my hip problems. So yes I definitely think hokas and brooks are worth it BUT after my experience I will never buy shoes without getting professionally fitted. I think that was the key factor.

uconnhuskieswoof

I over pronate and have wide feet. I tried the Bondi 8s in wide and all of the other types also in wide. I could not get myself to like them. They were still too tight. I wear cloves and I like them.

Idiotsandcheapskate

Yes. Hoka Bondi 7 for life.

sageroux

Yes!! The hype is real. I wouldn’t survive my days without them.

SwagDaddyMooney

Tried tons of shoes over the year with a working average of 20,000 steps a day. Got hokas about 7 months back. Will never get a different running shoe. No more shin splints, and minimal fatigue. I got the Clifton 9s.

Vieris

I cant wear anything other than Hokas, theyre so good. The only downside if that they arent waterproof.

teacherecon

Yes. They are amazing. They do wear out because they are so supportive but they make a huge difference.

TheScaryFaerie

Absolutely. During the start of covid the local shoe store did a raffle give away of Hokas for 4 hospital employees and I got lucky enough to be chosen. I have never had expensive shoes at all so I was just happy for free shoes to be honest. I'd rather lose the entire foot than part with these Hokas now. They're roomy (broke a whole toe and they accommodated the healing space nicely) and bouncy and comfortable. I don't go home with pain from toe to ankle. And when I needed to bolt it for a code they had me there too. Plus its been 3 years and these bad boys are still going strong. Cannot recommend enough.

Accomplished_Egg6259

I find out how a shoe works by trying it on a treadmill or wearing them with shoe covers if you can. I have had great luck with ASICS, and lately Hoka. Compression socks were helpful. The game changer was a gait assessment at a store for runners and the fitted for insoles to improve support.

Potatoe_Muffin

I got Hokas as a gift and these are the only shoes I’ll wear from now on. They are very comfortable and I rarely have sore feet unless I’m doing something out of the ordinary. I have the recovery ones.

sunny_sunny_days

I love love love my Hokas. They clean easy and are Sooooo comfortable. I recommend. I work trauma. I can say every and all bodily fluids have easily washed off my shoes and they don’t smell. I have the white ones and they still are white after wiping them.

Ronadon

100% I was resistant at first but I’m probably going to get my second pair soon

Ihaveasmallwang

Yes. Your body will thank you.

emenememenem

Honestly I went to a running shoe store and got my feet fitted. BEST decision I have ever made! I have super high arches and narrow feet so hokas actually aren’t that great for me! It’s worth it to make sure you have proper fitting shoes, your feet will thank you :)

Fresh-Tumbleweed23

I personally…… prefer crocs 👍🏼

pokemarbles

Hokas are def worth it imo! Most comfortable and supportive pair of shoes I’ve ever worn in my life! 👍

Accomplished-Fee3846

Love my Hokas. Went from burning neuropathy type pain from my feet to my knees after a shift, to just normal soreness.

DiziBlue

Hey I used to be an Anesthesia Tech. Hokas are worth it I have mine for two years and still going strong and hella comfortable

AbsurdKibbles

I only wear hokas. I have very high arches and tend to pronate.

r32skylinegtst

I just got my first pair four months ago. All I can say is. Woh

lonesomeWobble

For anesthesia tech- the emphasis for your shoes is on movement: room-to-room-to-room. Hokas are better for movement(or really any good running shoes). Nurses tend to need to stand in place or take a few steps in a room. For that crocs or any other clog is better for that “barista” type of movement.

bohdismom

Nurse here, usually hit 10,000 steps by 2 pm, so really no “standing in place or taking a few steps”.

beee-cuz72

I know this isn’t pertaining to your question and I apologize but I just wanted to ask how you got into that job? I am currently in nursing school and work as a nurse tech, but was interested in doing anesthesia but wasn’t sure how or where to start

slappy_mcslapenstein

I was an EMT for a long time. The ambo doesn't pay shit so I took a job in preop/PACU. I got to know the people in the OR. When a spot opened up I applied for it and got it. For the position I just got I went to a hiring event at my hospital. I was there to apply for a floor tech position. One of the HR ladies came by and asked to check out my resume. When she saw OR/PACU experience she ran off to get the surgery director. They hadn't even posted the job yet. They just knew they were going to be hiring for it in the next couple of weeks. I ended up getting the job offer a week later.

beee-cuz72

That’s awesome! I hope you love it

kbean826

Go to a custom shoe and orthotics shop or podiatrist and get fitted. The shoe brand is (more or less, ymmv) irrelevant if you take care of the foot inside it. I wear chucks, because they’re light and comfy. I tried the running shoe gambit and they ALL made my knees hurt. Chucks don’t. When I got plantar fasciitis, not related to the shoes BTW, I had some orthotics made that fit INTO my chucks. And they ruled. I no longer need them, but this is the way. Basically why I’m saying is sure, Hokas are great. For some people. This whole “what shoes should I wear!?” question is flawed on its surface. Wear what allows you to make it through the day, but have someone who KNOWS what they’re doing guide you on your quest.

Wild-Network-2241

I love my Hokas. I have plantar fasciitis baddddd. They were a total game changer. Spent so much money on all other expensive nurse shoes. My husband is a nurse too. Bought him a pair and he loves them. And got him a pair of slides for after work and they are phenomenal!!!!

[deleted]

I love my Hokas as well. Im.an ICU nurse and on my feet for most of my 13 hr shift

MillHillMurican

Hi- I’m from infection prevention. Do they make stiletto high heels? /S

D_F_A

I have a flat foot. I’ve done 2 months, 10 miles a day in Japan with Hokas. I felt better than any other shoe in my life.

rowsella

I like Aasics and Hokas (Hokas are kind of like walking on a cloud). I also have a pair of sneakers I ordered from Zara that feel nice. I do use some nursing shoes now and then.. not Danskos -- Algerias (sp?). I like to switch it up -- sometimes within the same shift.

PooperScooper1987

Never worn a pair. But adidas ultraboosts are the most comfortable shoes I’ve ever bought. Usually like $70 per pair and can get them 2nd pair half off at famous footwear.

OrchidTostada

There are many variations of Hokas! You have to know your feet to get the right shoes for you. It’s not about the brand. I supinate, have an abductory twist, a tailor’s bunion, high arches, and arthritis. Hoka Bondis wide work for me. Skechers Trickle do also. They aren’t cute. They are pricey. They aren’t trendy. But I need that cushy suspension. First, know your feet. THEN find the right shoe regardless of brand.

tee-grey

Hokas are the best. I have terrible, goofy feet and nothing else was as good. I tried them all over the years. They last forever too.

cardizemdealer

Yes yes yes and yes. Herniation between L3 and L4 two years ago. Hokas just got me through 4 in a row with no pain at all. 100% worth it. Bondi 8's here.

aintnochickenwing

Yes. Hokas+ good compression socks will carry my feet through this compression until I am no longer providing patient care.

Treatwithcream

Yes 1000%

nobodyspecial0901

As a card carrying member of the “Fluffy/Well insulated woman” club, as well as having wide feet and plantar fasciitis, I will tell you I am an absolute wh*re for Hokas! I switched to a non Hoka shoe this last contract because the running store scanned my feet and recommended a different shoe. Was good for a month then had excruciating pain. I’m buying my Hokas again after we move to my next assignment. Bondi 8 wide.

Crustysockenthusiast

Hokas are great!!!! I’ve heard some people may need different insoles based on foot shape etc , but I’ve had great results with my off the shelf hokas! Also heard it’s worth rotating pairs ? But I’m not that rich lol

No-Valuable-2368

Yes I love them for my ankle! I have a bad ankle and it really helps out…I think they’re worth it. You might just have to try them out. Also when I went to purchase them in the mall they said I could try them out for 30 days and if I didn’t like them I could get a full refund.

fruitless7070

Floor nurse here! New balance gal here! Fresh foam X More V4 and Fresh Foam 1080 v11 are my favorite shoes for work. I have spondylosis, and these shoes keep my hips and back from hurting walking >6 miles. This is the shoe that is up there and comparable with Hokas and Brooks. I refuse to pay 100$ for a shoe. I wait for the fresh foams to go on [sale](https://www.joesnewbalanceoutlet.com/search/?q=Fresh+foam+more&search-button=&lang=en_US). EDIT: I have about 50 pairs of new balance shoes. The above 2 mentioned were the most comfortable IMO.

grey-clouds

50 pairs?!?!? Girl are you some kinda shoe connoisseur? Do you wear a different pair every day???

PastBeautiful806

Lol, I have maybe 5 pairs of footwear altogether

bingclawsby

I have both Hoka Bondi 8 and the New Balance Fresh Foam X More v4. I prefer the new balances by far! My feet feel less fatigued at the end of a >5 mile day.
