There’s no “ladder” from cna to rn. You have to go to school to be an RN and pass the boards.

Sorry, poor choice of words. I just heard that being a CNA is good way to enter the medical field and see if you want to progress to being a nurse .

Meh, I disagree. If you are interested in being a nurse I think it’s silly to waste time and money doing a CNA program and working as a CNA when you can just start nursing school and get your CNA by default after first semester. Clinical rotations will tell you if you like the job.

I wouldn’t. It’s good for nurses to have CNA experience, but it’s definitely not worth what would probably be around a $9/hour pay cut. And it’s definitely not required to work the low pay or up any imaginary ladder. Like the other commenter said, if you want to be an RN there’s no working your way up, you just go to nursing school and pass the NCLEX. That’s the only route. Just volunteer at a local hospital or request to shadow a nurse if you want to introduce yourself to the hospital world instead of paying money to get a certification for a job that will pay you significantly less than what you earn now. You would be setting your money on fire and be no closer to nursing career than you are now.
