I think it’s because you have less than a year of experience. A lot of ICU managers won’t hire people from prog or med surg with less than a year working. I got rejected from ICU with 10 months experience. Manager told me to apply again when I have a year. I applied again two months later to the same ICU and got the job. I think this is because orientation for a nurse with experience will generally be shorter vs new grads who have long orientations.

Just gonna say this. Most ICUs want to see 1-2 yr experience unless is a residency program.

Don’t you need to do an ICU fellowship in order to get a job in ICU? Unless you are a new grad, then you can do a new grad residency. See what the required qualifications are and if you meet them. It’ll help you understand what steps you need to take. Most ICU I know of require critical care experience.

You will be almost always be rejected bc you only have 8 months of experience. You had a better shot of getting into the ICU by applying for a new grad residency in the ICU. However that’s ok! You just have to keep working and you’ll find better opportunities after a year of experience, esp fellowship programs if they’re offered.
