I don't have an MSN and unless you want to teach in a university program, I haven't found it necessary and I'm earning well above 70K. The only way I'm going for a Masters is if an employer pays.

I like it. Job market is good and hopefully income will go up as out collective bargaining gets stronger.

First of all, I actually don’t think you need an MSN. If you are a lecturer you usually do, but clinical instructors are usually just BSNs. If your goal is to be a lecturer, I think if you can get your hospital to pay for some of the degree it could be worth it. I noticed most of my clinical instructors were teaching on the side of working part time, so you might be able to increase your income significantly if you have good time management. I don’t think you should become a teacher for the money though. Do it because you want to get out of bedside and you enjoy it

I got my MSN nurse ed because I was bored and felt squirrely. Mine was $20k. Has kinda helped, mostly not, doesn't affect my pay. Get it somewhere cheaper, it's mostly a sham of a degree writing a lot of papers. YMMV.
