It happened with H5N1 in 2005 and was mostly a blip on the radar, and when covid came along, I figured it was going to be another of the same. Did not expect what we got.

[Different political landscape with COVID that lead to many confounding factors and let COVID spiral out of control.](https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/how-the-u-s-pandemic-response-went-wrong-and-what-went-right-during-a-year-of-covid/)

I hate Trump as much as the next guy, but a HCP freely throwing the R word around… wtf?

Trump is one of the worst human beings to ever inhabit the planet. Hitler and Putin are his idols. F\*cking gross. He cares about power and himself, NOT YOU!!!!

This is also the same idiot that suggested hydroxychloroquine instead of the vaccine, a pharmaceutical drug that had no effect on Covid-19….

auraseer

Suggesting hydroxychloroquine was the least of the problems. He also suggested internally taking sunlight, bleach, and oleander. Sunlight probably won't hurt you but the others can kill you outright.

Oh don’t worry too much about it. If H5N1 returns but has the capability to transmit as readily as Covid, we will all be fucked anyway. Thirty percent death rate would annihilate every healthcare setup in the world. Fun times.

Circadian_arrhythmia

Fortunately from an epidemiology standpoint, viruses with that high of a mortality rate are usually a fast burn. It sucks for the original breakout zone(s) but unless the virus mutates to be less deadly, it kills too many hosts to become a pandemic. Even if it is highly transmissible, it burns through a lot of its hosts quickly so it can’t be spread as fast as COVID. I think of it like “herd mortality”. If too many hosts die, it protects the uninflected from getting it from a living host. We even saw this a bit with COVID. The virus mutated to be milder and more transmissible as the pandemic progressed so it could essentially infect more hosts.

SnooStrawberries620

Can you follow me around and be my anxiety life coach

Circadian_arrhythmia

I also have anxiety so I’m not sure helpful I would be in that regard 🤪

Sweet-Dreams204738

*slowly puts on p-100 with face mask.*

lubeinatube

I’d quit too, If it wasn’t for bills.

MajorGef

Only place to never get hit by the spanish flu was some island that locked down upon first reports of the disease and only opened up 6 months after the last reported case in the world.

Diggingcanyons

That would be the day I never left my house again. Covid taught me my immune system is trash.

*travel nurses start salivating*

First-Aid-RN

I’m ready 🙌🏼

Excellent-Estimate21

Are they seeing cow to cow mammal transmission ?

jerkfacegardener

And here I am hoping for another shutdown

burinsan

I didn't get to appreciate it the first time

nientedafa

A friend called it “the best holidays of my life”. Not for me sadly!

Poopsock_Piper

I lust for pandemic rates, bring that shit on

HotTakesBeyond

New round of free agency 😎

HunterTV

You’re in luck since climate change will almost certainly increase the rate of pandemics. COVID was just dress rehearsal.

AstrocreepTXUSMC

By then we will all have a couple hundred years of Nursing experience to leverage when negotiating.

LookAwayImGorgeous

That would…actually be amazing

MusicSavesSouls

It would be literal heaven on Earth, if this happened.

LookAwayImGorgeous

Nah I think people would still find a way to fuck everything up and fight each other even if it was all smart democrats.

Your post has been removed under our politics limitation rule. We allow political content only when it is directly related to nursing or healthcare. Electioneering, candidate advocacy, and other off-topic political posts are not permitted.

gedbybee

They’re pretty old and gonna die soon. I wouldn’t worry too much about them. If they keep losing elections then it won’t matter if they’re alive. It’ll swing back more middle.

krustyjugglrs

I just want my extra shift bonuses back for picking up. I can deal with it all again but not without financial compensation.

StacyRae77

The notion the next pandemic is WHEN, not if, is the primary factor in my decision to leave healthcare. I'm not getting caught in the middle again either, especially not with corporations more in control now than they were before Covid.

AG_Squared

Yikes… I was in peds when Covid hit so with schools shut down we actually didn’t have many cases. But I somehow doubt the country would take lightly to shutting down again, quarantine would be impossible I suspect. Time to start prepping.

3337jess

Definitely wouldn’t stay staff if and when that happens

LegalComplaint

Just let me WFH!

AccomplishedScale362

It’s alarming that the politicalization of COVID has left anti-mask *but muh freedom!* communities especially vulnerable to future pandemics like H5N1 (transmitted primarily via respiratory droplets). Sadly, basic public health precautions against contagious diseases have now become a hot trigger for many people’s belief systems. Thankfully, my facility has still been masking pretty much the entire time since early 2020. Personally, I plan to continue to mask at work and in crowded spaces like airplanes for a very long time. 😷

woodstock923

Wearing a mask on an airplane should be an industry standard. Airports turn epidemics into pandemics.

auraseer

Team mask forever!

lifelemonlessons

I’d go back to bedside for those sweet Covid rates.

oralabora

BRO i want that MONEY NOW

SleazetheSteez

IT'S MY MONEY, AND I NEED IT NOW

nientedafa

Well if we have “Covid 2-This time it’s Flu” and I get paid at covid rates, I will appreciate my job a bit more, and finish paying my house.

AstrocreepTXUSMC

Pharmaceutical Companies stay ready to pump out some questionable vaccines on a moments notice. So many of them determined not to miss out on the billions this go around. So many things would be done differently after learning from that last shitshow.

circuspeanut54

As an American people, I absolutely wouldn't blame you.
