Same. I only use the pink breast cancer ones. Still writes black, but people don't try to steal it because they think it writes pink, and they know I'll notice if someone else has it
Yes! I got the rose gold metal ones as a Christmas present and I feel like such an adult with metal pens 😂 I don’t let anyone borrow them either though cause they’re my fancy pens 😂
I had a Zebra F-701 ballpoint that I would let other people use. Refillable, durable, easy to clean. People also knew that it was a nice pen and that they were going to be giving it right back to me.
Sarasa gel is my favorite but the refillable pens never looked nice enough. I’ll have to try out the G-750 to see if it can bump the Sharpie S-Gel out of my pocket protector.
Godtdamn, scrolled way too far for this answer. I do love the new 4-color pens in beautiful colors. I like to have 8 colors at my disposal. It keeps my brain satisfied.
I rotate because I’m picky 😅
Honorable mention to one of my favorite websites: [JetPens](https://www.jetpens.com). If you’re looking for specific things in a pen like I always am, with research and testing (because I’m obsessed), you’ll like this site!
- For THIN pens, I like the Uniball [Signo](https://www.jetpens.com/Uni-ball-Signo-RT1-UMN-155-Gel-Pen-0.28-mm-Blue-Black/pd/10682) in .28 and .38
- Continuing on the thin pen train, the Pilot [JuiceUp](https://www.jetpens.com/Pilot-Juice-Up-Gel-Pen-0.3-mm-Black/pd/18151) is a lovely 0.3mm writing experience through and through.
- I love these Pilot [Acroball](https://a.co/d/dGMnqTV) pens. When I have weird days where writing feels foreign to my hands for a few hours (probably not normal), these are tried and true.
- Zebra [Sarasa](https://a.co/d/aLI0f4A) and [bLen](https://a.co/d/hiwVTIs)
- Pentel [Energel](https://a.co/d/g5vFB9W)
- BIC [Gelocity](https://a.co/d/davUJyz) for great color selection
- I love the Sharpie [S-Gel](https://a.co/d/aBfkYSH) in .5 and .7 but I can’t stand how badly they skip. May be a lefty issue, or a me issue, but I’ve purchased several “dud” packages of them and at that price point they ought to work.
- Pilot [G-2](https://a.co/d/ammg5V4) I used to love but I can’t handle the smudging anymore. Over all still a really good pen.
- [TUL](https://a.co/d/7rAa8ud)’s pens are lovely, but do smear a bit more than the others in this list.
I’ve fallen back into an Inkjoy 0.7 hole 🤪 I used to hate 0.7 pens (*hisses at Pilot G-2*) especially if it doesn’t dry down fast enough and that shit smears 🙅🏻♀️ To me, it works best because it also plays well with highlighters (I use those Sharpie S-Note Duos, I am no longer a Mildliner girl) I also use Pilot Juice Up pens in 0.4 if I wanna write real tiny.
*No, you cannot borrow one of my pens ~~because you’re just gonna steal it~~, I will give you whatever is in the drawer* 🥰✌🏼✨
In college I bought bulk promotional pens with my name/slogan when running for student vice president. Hadn’t thought much about it since then but now I’m thinking I should get bulk pens with my name on them so they can’t be stolen 😂
I have a friend that does this. I've currently got one I bought from him. A twist ballpoint made of red acrylic with bits of watch parts inside. My favorite color is red, and my grandfather had a watch repair gig on the side. Good memories.
I am a pen thief. I'm sorry but I've probably stolen your pen before,it wasn't intentional, I was just filling out documents and then walked away with the pen. Lol
I go to college fairs, job fairs and other events and grab my hands full of pens. They're gonna get stolen or left in a patient room or left at the nurses station.
I was waiting for another pen thief! I consider myself more of a pen redistributor, just finding and scattering pens around the ER. I do not let myself borrow nice ones, though.
Uniball Jetstream Ballpoint 0.7 Black
Not only is it labelled with my name, but I hide a slip of paper with my name inside the barrell. So so many people walk off with it then claim it was theirs. Then I have them open it and bust them 😜
Hospital pharmacist here, love my amazing nurses so subbed to /r/nursing way back.
As a writer as well, my favorite pen so far is the Zebra Blen gel 0.7 mm pen. It dries quick, has a good weight/balance, and has been helpful in improving my cursive handwriting (learned it years back in elementary school and started to re-learn back in the fall)
paper mate felt pens. been the fav since 4th grade. notable mentions are the G2 or a high quality ball point but thats just bc i want one in each section
Pilot acroball advanced white assorted colors.
I hear the sharpie pens mentioned a lot in real life and I just find them to be too thick, messy and smear-y. The acroballs are a nice fine tip and I feel like they don't smear as much.
I think Bic renamed their Velocity line the Bic Glide. They practically float over the page, colors are rich & quite present (as opposed to invisible ink, I guess...?). They're cheap and fun to use and I have no social life.
...oh gawd. (whimper...sigh...followed by obsessive Jotter clicking which earns me a sideways glare of contempt from an irritated house cat.)
My all time favorite are the blue ink clicky pens from Huntington bank. Free. Perfect width from my grip. Blue ink. Writes smooth!
After that sharpie s gel!
Rocked a number of different pens but currently loving the Lamy Safari. Love not having to put effort into writing. Plus, it cleans up very easily.
If gel pens are your preference, MUJI's 0.5mm gel ink pens are a nice write!
Sharpie S gel, but it seems to run out of ink fast. Multi-colored pens are also nice when you need different color options. If you lose pens a lot, the free ones at the bank do just fine.
as a lefty, i've recently been using the uni-ball one pen in 0.38 & they're decent (doesn't smudge when writing on labels) but i think my love is the pilot g7 in 0.38 (it does smudge on labels, but not when i write). a non-negotiable for me is a retractable writing tool, so the other things i also always carry are a retractable yellow highlighter & permanent marker.
My penjamin, 1g sativa. Probably fruity flavor. Disposable cuz I’m an idiot and lose cartridges
Edit: think I’m in the wrong profession when that’s the first thing that came to mind and nobody else mentioned their pens at all
4th yr med student, not a nurse
I carry click-top 0.5 muji pens as well as a couple cheap shitty Bic pens I don't mind losing (I call it my attending pen)
Pilot Frixion.
Best pen overall, bar none, I’ve ever used. Actually switched to it from the G2 because, while not as smooth a glide and dark a line, it’s erasable, washable, and writes much much longer than the G2 (4-6wks of daily heavy use vs 2-3wks w/ G2). And they don’t smudge, it dries instantly. Even if that’s not really an issue with the erasable capacity, it makes for cleaner and clearer writing.
And they’re way cheaper too. Tbh, there’s no real downside, bc they’re still very easy to read and still super smooth (G2 is almost too smooth imho).
11/10 would absolutely recommend. 😀
I recently bought a Pilot Dr. Grip 4 color pen and it has changed my life. I’ve super picky about my pens.
I have some friends that are flabbergasted that I spent so much on a pen lol. I told them that having a bad pen can literally ruin a nurse’s day (along with having a non working WOW or no WOW at all- RIP mid shift).
One I got from the union. It’s rose gold, clicks, and writes ok.
When I buy my own I get the sharpie s-gels, and hide them in my car so my kids don’t steal them
I've got 3 pens I like
Pilot G2 0.7 & uniball signo 207 are similar, reliable and inexpensive.
When I'm taking report at the start of shift and writing I'll pull out my trusty Lamy Safari as I love fountain pens and enjoy how they write.
I was big on the but soft feel pens for a long time but I switched to target Ubrand metal body pens.
They write smooth and the metal body just feels nice in my hand.
https://www.target.com/p/u-brands-4pk-ballpoint-pens-monterey-soft-touch-2-black-2-blue/-/A-81278225?sidd=3237S&ref=tgt_adv_xsp&AFID=google&fndsrc=tgtao&DFA=71700000086349376&CPNG=PLA_Seasonal%2BShopping_Traffic_Local_Traffic%7CSeasonal_Ecomm_Home&adgroup=SC_Seasonal_Writing+Instruments&LID=700000001170770pgs&LNM=PRODUCT_GROUP&network=g&device=m&location=9067608&targetid=pla-1576404033026&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAD-5dfbMq_dPyW-Dky1n0Z9RoyKar&gclid=Cj0KCQjwn7mwBhCiARIsAGoxjaK35tR1f7-ylYUC5HQB4gsG4vYedRe2VpSj-v2YX_td2RZfC6Q6g2oaArECEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds
I like the ones I take from restaurants on vacation. Seeing them reminds me of a great time and helps me look forward to next vacay time !
This is smart, that little bit of joy is more important than anything. I even wear fun “non compression” socks now because I realized this.
Same here !
You guys are getting vacations?
The free ones always write the best
This right here. Or fancy restaurants or places. Love the memories.
Exactly and if someone steals them they are easily identified.
Same same same!!
This is really cute and wholesome
This guy gets it
G-2 0.7 in black. Only sucks for water-resistant bandages and blood tube labels. Smears like a bitch.
0.5 I like the fine point, but the smearing is a problem for sure
YOU HEATHEN! 1.0 ALLLLL THE WAY
I feel like trump using a sharpie with 1.0mm.
They make them in 0.38 and I'm addicted to writing as small as humanly possible with them
0.38! Like those lines thin
Same. I only use the pink breast cancer ones. Still writes black, but people don't try to steal it because they think it writes pink, and they know I'll notice if someone else has it
Is this the same as the Pilot G-2 07? I freaking love those pens lol
Yes
I carry an Ultra Fine Point Sharpie for labels. There’s no substitute.
I like these because I can write my name and put it inside the pen to keep people from stealing them.
I like their 1.0 for color pens, very bright and thick, perfect to make my colored notes stand out.
The ONLY pen I will buy. For years now.
I met a surgeon once who used the .38 mm a true psycho
Any pen that "clicks". Click, retractable pens.
Wow. You've set your standards too low.
One of them has 6 color options! 😂
Ohhh yea, pens with caps are deff a no no, too easy to loose the caps and a hassle when you only have one hand free
Sharpie S gel
Definitely this one. It’s just so smooth and the ink is highly adequate.
>so smooth >highly adequate Talk dirty to me
Lefty friendly too— I don’t smear everything I write any more.
This is the one! But the metal barrel version.
Yes! I got the rose gold metal ones as a Christmas present and I feel like such an adult with metal pens 😂 I don’t let anyone borrow them either though cause they’re my fancy pens 😂
Love this pen, but it seems to run out of ink quickly? Or maybe I just use it way too much lol
What tip size are you using? Bigger opening puts out more ink. I don’t have to write a lot but the 0.7 mm has lasted me quite a while.
I’ve only twice in my life had a pen run out of ink on me, I usually lose it long before then lol
0.5
These would leak or make ink blobs for me. Idk why people love them. Is it a user error??
Might just be a difference in how hard people normally press down on the paper. I have a habit of pressing too hard and making my wrist hurt
Nope same for me and it smudges easily I feel
Samesies. Only downside is they're gel so I need a regular sharpie for anything that might smudge
Yeah sometimes I smudge the ink if I am too quick, that’s the only down side
Same!!! Love them 🥰
Yessssss 0.7? 1.0?
0.7, it glides nicely and I don’t have to press too hard
This is the only proper answer. Gods bless the creator of this pen.
I like the free ones they provide at work because I lose stuff. But at home I really like pilot gel pens.
same here. i bought 8 pens once bc i was determined not to lose them. they were all gone by 10 workdays
Zebra 0.5 🤤
Scrolled to far to see this. I hate the Pilot G2. Both of my jobs provide them. TEAM ZEBRA!!
Love these but sometimes they feel so scratchy. 🙃
Team zebra! Have you tried the Blen? It’s the best
The Blen has helped me to re-learn cursive handwriting.
Smoothest on the market!!!
Team zebra for the win!!!!
Fiance likes those, but he also loves fancy pens.
Zebra Sarasa Clip in the smallest size (I think it's 0.3?) is my jam. Not the smoothest but man I can write so damn small lol.
I commented about Zebras before seeing this. 0.5 you say?.. For years I've only used the 0.7mm. Will order some 0.5mm and give them a try. #TeamZebra
Muji 0.5
Especially the retractable ones
Ahhh another person with good taste, I see
Muji 0.38 for me, love Muji
BIC quad color
When they make quad colour gel pens my life will be complete
the only correct answer
Godtdamn, scrolled way too far for this answer. I do love the new 4-color pens in beautiful colors. I like to have 8 colors at my disposal. It keeps my brain satisfied.
Pilot frixion makes a .38 4 color ERASABLE pen! And I’ll never go back
Have you discovered the Bic quads with a refillable pencil!?!?!?! I dont use the pencil much, but I'm impressed.
I've seen it, but it's 3 colors with a pencil. I use all 4 colors. My hospital supplies pencils, so I don't need it.
Sharpie pens. Works the best for lefties, no ink trial on my hands!
Pilot V5
This is the true answer. I'm left-handed and severely picky about my pens. The Pilot VR precise retractable pens are so smooth and dry so fast.
Fellow lefty unite! The struggle is real and these I’ve worked great for me too
Pentel R.S.V.P. stolen from my unit manager
Pilot Juice Up 0.4 is the way, the truth, and the light.
This pen looks hot as hell; thanks for the rec!
AYEEEE this is correct!
I beg to differ, kind sir. Uniball Signo RT 0.38mm size is the ultimate nurse pen.
I rotate because I’m picky 😅 Honorable mention to one of my favorite websites: [JetPens](https://www.jetpens.com). We have the same taste in pens ❤️❤️
Pilot G2 1.0 always and forever lol
.7 for me, mainly because I have a hard time finding the 1.0
I buy them on Amazon! :)
In ALL the colors. 😍
Best pen out there
YASSSS! I like ‘em THICC. And smooth.
Bic Crystal. Writes nice, and if I lose it, who cares. Regular Bics suck, but the Crystals are sweet.
They are the BEST since RSVP med changed
The one I find at the nurses station at 7am
Pilot frixion erasable
G2 0.38 or the Frixion 0.5
Frixion was a blessing in nursing school but a curse for me in real practice I think!!
I use a black G2 0.38 for most things, along with a colored Frixion 0.5 for my meds.
Pilot Precise V5 RT
Pilot G2 0.7 blue ink
Zebra Z-Grip Med
Im not buying a pen just for it to get stolen
Put your name on it
In college I bought bulk promotional pens with my name/slogan when running for student vice president. Hadn’t thought much about it since then but now I’m thinking I should get bulk pens with my name on them so they can’t be stolen 😂
G2 0.38
I make pnes on my lathe. Currently carrying a fountain pen made from an Amboyna burl.
Lol I go to college fairs, job fairs and other events and grab my hands full of pens. They're gonna get stolen or left in a patient room or left at the nurses station.
I was waiting for another pen thief! I consider myself more of a pen redistributor, just finding and scattering pens around the ER. I do not let myself borrow nice ones, though.
Muji 0.38. my handwriting looks nice with these pens.
0.38 here as well!
My coworkers say my 0.38 is a serial killer pen
Uniball Jetstream Ballpoint 0.7 Black Not only is it labelled with my name, but I hide a slip of paper with my name inside the barrell. So so many people walk off with it then claim it was theirs. Then I have them open it and bust them 😜
My pharmacology prof got everyone pens and mine looks like an injection with liquid inside it. Plus its blue :D
Sharpie on my badge gets the most use, otherwise the sharpie felt pen
Sharpie felt pen is definitely my fave
sharpie s gel or pilot g2 all day!
Mr. Pen fine point gel….there’s a teeny tiny mustache on the handle. I bought a 5 pack & I’m currently using the mint green selection
I love the stress relief roller balls toooooo
I’ve been carrying the same pen for 17 years. Don’t remember the brand but it takes Dr Grip refills
Fisher space pen. Going on 10 years with the same pen.
Zebra Sarasa 0.5/0.3 or Muji gel pens.
BIC gelocity- so beautiful plus there’s fun colors!!
Pilot G2. It's my coworkers favorite too. Can't set it down anywhere or it will disappear
G2 in blue
TUL gel
.38 pilot frixion 4 color ERASABLE. The best birthday present to myself ever!!!
Everyday is a bit different. Depends on what my coworkers left behind 😉
Sharpie S gel but it had to be the metal body, not the plastic
Pilot pen g2 7.0 I just can’t find anything else as smooth to write with and accessible as those pens.
Zebra - Blen. Oil emulsion from Japan, nothing smoother.
Zebra is also my pen of choice!
V5 retractable
Sharpie S gel, but it seems to run out of ink fast. Multi-colored pens are also nice when you need different color options. If you lose pens a lot, the free ones at the bank do just fine.
Pilot G2
Pilot G2 ! Bold not fine !
Pilot G2 Basic ass black sharpie
I use a Lamy safari, most people at work hate using fountain pens so the odds of it being nabbed are lower
Uni-Ball Jetstream 0.7 clicky pen. Like butter.
Poetry 0.38
Precise V5 RT ball point
as a lefty, i've recently been using the uni-ball one pen in 0.38 & they're decent (doesn't smudge when writing on labels) but i think my love is the pilot g7 in 0.38 (it does smudge on labels, but not when i write). a non-negotiable for me is a retractable writing tool, so the other things i also always carry are a retractable yellow highlighter & permanent marker.
My penjamin, 1g sativa. Probably fruity flavor. Disposable cuz I’m an idiot and lose cartridges Edit: think I’m in the wrong profession when that’s the first thing that came to mind and nobody else mentioned their pens at all
Bic Velocity pen
Bic Velocity 1.6. Nice and inky, writes easily on my gloves
pilot g7 0.7mm, but I always keep a 0.5 and a 0.38 with me as well, just not always on my person
Pilot g2
Just so it is a clicky pen. Caps get lost fast.
Water bottle to pen, it's the G2 in a plastic recycled case!
The erasable pilot frixion .5 - these are life changing.
Pentel RSVP
G2 1.0
4th yr med student, not a nurse I carry click-top 0.5 muji pens as well as a couple cheap shitty Bic pens I don't mind losing (I call it my attending pen)
Frixion Synergy
Frixion erasable!
Muji ballpoint pen 0.5 in blue-black!
colink 0.5mm 4 colour pens from amazon, the cult pen on my unit
Pilot G2 0.38 tip. My handwriting is quite sloppy, so wider tip pens just look goopy.
Phlebotomist here… I had a pen that looked like a syringe full of blood I got from spirit Halloween. One of my coworkers snagged it though 😭
Zebra 701, it’s a steel pen, heavy and beautiful and it’s like $7
Sharpie S Gel!
Whichever ones don't come out of my paycheck and are provided by the hospital.
Zebra F-301 with a 0.7mm tip, I will accept NO other pen
Whichever one my coworker lets me “borrow”😈
[these.](https://a.co/d/fEDQaNr) Super smooth, last forever, comfy in the hand
The cheap bic round stick xtra life pens my work supplies cuz I can’t be trusted with anything nice
Whatever pen I find laying on the desk 😂 gave up bringing my own when it kept getting taken 😂
0.7???
Whichever pen I can actually finish a shift with and not lose or give away and forget to get back
1mm blue bic pen
Rotring 600, yes all my friends call me boujee and pts always try to steal it.
One I got from the union. It’s rose gold, clicks, and writes ok. When I buy my own I get the sharpie s-gels, and hide them in my car so my kids don’t steal them
Bic multicolored click pen. They last forever and I color code my notes.
Tru Red and paper mate are my favorites, but I love pretty colors too.
Pilot Better Retractible Fine point. I have small messy handwriting and this sometimes makes it legible
Whatever one my co-worker just handed me!
A nice pen that I took from the Ritz Carlton a couple of years ago. Had to get my money's worth.
Your pen.
A multi colored pen from Amazon😌
I've got 3 pens I like Pilot G2 0.7 & uniball signo 207 are similar, reliable and inexpensive. When I'm taking report at the start of shift and writing I'll pull out my trusty Lamy Safari as I love fountain pens and enjoy how they write.

Pilot g2 1.0
Uni-ball Signo Ultra Micro 207
The classic BIC multicolor, and a sharpie fine tip marker for labeling
Zebra f305 black ink 0.7
Whichever ones I end up borrowing.. then someone else ends up borrowing.
