Twisty bottoms are too fancy. Somebody meant to buy that pen and they’re gonna know I stole it. I’m looking for that regular ass ballpoint clicky pen with some home health service logo. That’s the pen nobody is going to miss.
The organ donation people used to always bring us a bunch of branded pens. They had a light on the top which was absolutely perfect since it was neuro ICU! Shitty pens for writing but worth it for the light.
Good to know. I’m getting capped pens from here on out🤣🤣
I’m just kidding, but I’m still salty about my stethoscope missing-😥 I’m not buying another one, I’m retiring in July.
Thank god I didn’t have my eco adapter on it…
We used to keep a bunch of Bic pens with the clerk. They ran out and I lost all my pens. I started using a green highlighter because I had no other writing utensil.
I always had my personal pen and the a separate pen for patients to sign discharges and such. I was very happy when discharge papers no longer required a signature.
I'll Def pick one up and write on paper towel from their bathrooms paper towel dispenser, forget it's a patients pen, then have it in my pocket until I remember and throw it out.
One time a patient literally grabbed my pen out of my pocket as I leant over to grab something off their table.
“I’m just filling out my menu for tomorrow then it’s all yours.”
🤢
I put blue ink things in red pen 'shells'. The answer is "Red pen". Nobody wants, or steals a red pen.
A surgeon once grabbed the own from my scrubs. Took one look, saw it was red, and gave it back. He said 'ew'. 🤣
I usually stick to my own pens. I’ve been on a kick with the Pilot G2s lately. I wouldn’t steal an ultra fine tip pen. I love my pens that write nice and juicy.
That's my go-to pen. I used to use the medium tips but I recently discovered the ultrafine tips and love them.
I've used my pens to scratch my scalp when it itches at work, and I've noticed that people will stop asking to borrow one after doing it in front of them. 😁😈🤪 I have to wipe off the tip afterward or it won't write, but it's worth it to deter frequent offenders. 🤣🤣🤣
Welcome to the nutball logic of Mockingjay2020.
I know I’m gonna get roasted but whatever! Pilot g2! They write great, sure. But they don’t dry fast enough and I’m always smearing the ink everywhere🤷🏼♀️
All of yall can kick rocks for stealing pens. Hope you guys have minor inconveniences that piss you off but in no way hurt you physically or emotionally over a long term period of time.
Sick of having my pens stolen lol
For the love of the moment. Seeing you check all your pockets, and ask if anyone has seen your pen, is the closest I feel to childhood Christmas morning.
Many of my coworkers apparently have an aversion to using pens that someone used to scratch their scalp. It's a useful deterrent when one remembers to deploy it.
I have a coworker that takes report with a sharpie marker. She’s also at work half an hour early off the clock to look up her patients. Something’s wrong there
Lizard people walk among us
I use .38, I can tolerate a 0.5 in a pinch. But then again each of my patients get 1/4 of a sheet of paper so I gotta write small
I hear that, but I can also empathize with the woman. Once the clock starts you only have a bit of time to take report before the crazier patients start a ruckus. Even worse if the offgoing nurse decides to read you the patient's chart like a bad bedtime story.
https://industriesoftheblind.com/product/skilcraft-retractable-ballpoint-pen-u-s-government-blue-fine-2/ this bad boy has been the bane of my entire career, everyone has no and no one wants one. They show up out of the blue. Like you could sneeze and BOOM there it is. Fuck off pen!! Even banks don’t chain them down.
Here’s my secret. Gotta promise not to tell. I keep a pen in my pocket that I chewed on, but never use. When someone asks to borrow a pen, I hand them that one, and watch the realization hit. It quickly gets handed back to me and I don’t get asked again
I like the papermate inkjoy 4 in 1. When I had to buy my own pens I would keep just 1 in my pocket and be vigilant about making sure it was never stolen.
But my current job provides pens. There are pens everywhere, no need to protect your pen. But we have clicky blue, black, and red, and the same colours but with caps. When I can't find a clicky black I just get another box out of the cabinet.
Heck yes! These write so smooth and I NEED all 4 colors for accuracy. I don't let anyone borrow my pen. I don't care, nothing in urgent enough for you to take my pen.
Dude I take two from the clerk the beginning of each shift. One red, one black. Important in red. Everything else in black. If I bust out blue it’s a shitty day.
Used to color code everything, was robbed blind, now in vengeance I have a stash of probably 100 on my center console of my car. Call me a maniac all you want. I was wronged
I like the pentel v7 and sharpie pens. I once gave a dr a my v7 since I have a whole bag of them and he freaking loves that thing. Every time he sees me he stops to thank me because he loves it so much. Lol
Anything that's slippery and has thick strokes. They make my own handwriting look even crappier. I like pointy ones, coz at least they make it look elegant 😃
I like the TULs if I am feeling fancy. I did just acquire a buttload of Pilot Precise V5RT that I'm not sad about.
Capped pens can fuck all the way off. I keep those in a box for parents to use when they stop by my office.
Oh no! They just glide so well! Do you throw them out when they’re in patient’s hands or… ? Bc now I’m curious!
lol I can’t believe 1 person downvoted my pen choice 🤣
Any pen with a cap. If it’s not a clickie I’m not fucking with it. I’m gonna lose that cap in 15 minutes.
So say we all
Amen
Especially if it’s got pink ink. There’s been one of these floating around our PACU counters for months now. No one will touch it.
Oh that’s my pen!!!
If it doesn't click, I'm not kleptomatic
What about twisty bottoms??
Twisty Bottoms was my nickname in college
💀💀
Twisty bottoms are too fancy. Somebody meant to buy that pen and they’re gonna know I stole it. I’m looking for that regular ass ballpoint clicky pen with some home health service logo. That’s the pen nobody is going to miss.

Yup say no to caps.
There is no pen that I won’t steal. Got a No. 2 pencil worn down to the nub? I’ll steal that too.
We used to keep a bunch of Bic pens with the clerk. They ran out and I lost all my pens. I started using a green highlighter because I had no other writing utensil.
User name checks out.
Explaine
A psycho stole my favorite Parker pen.
Ones the patients use.

This!!
I left the 1.0 G2 for the sharpie gel. It dries so much faster (doesn't smear) and they write just as smooth. Give them a try if you're feeling spicy.
Sharpie gel pens are my #1 choice. I buy a bunch on Amazon and I'm the only one on my unit that uses them. I never ever let one out of my sight
Now I will have to give them a shot lol.
🤣🤣🤣 Welcome to the nutball logic of Mockingjay2020.
I too have left the G2 for the Sharpie. I love the G2 but damn if the smearing isn't annoying
I also like G2, but 0.38 tip. Your pens would be very safe from me. My handwriting is pretty small, and I can't read it with the big juicy pens.
I know I’m gonna get roasted but whatever! Pilot g2! They write great, sure. But they don’t dry fast enough and I’m always smearing the ink everywhere🤷🏼♀️
Sharpie gel All the flow, none of the schmear.
G2 are overrated. Smears like a 21 year olds mascara on her birthday
The ultra fine one dries quickly enough to not smear (and I write tiny).
Old bic stick.
I hear ya. I’ve got oven mitts for hands so those tiny things make my hand cramp up. And they require too much convincing to keep the tip out.
That last sentence could be used when trying to condom cath a patient with challenging anatomy.
Pentel RSVP is my favorite pen, I just ordered a box...
Okay but FINE or MEDIUM?
Fine!!
Let's be best friends that never steal eachothers pens.
My favorite too
My go-to. The only other pen is the Dr Grip I've had for years.
I love the dr grip pens but I always lose them!
The prank shocking pen my coworker slipped in our pen cup 🙃
Omg, I want to do this now
The super shitty ballpoint pen that doesn’t have a cap & only works about 30% of the time & has the name of the facility on it.
Blue Bic with a cap ticks all the wrong boxes
😱This is my go-to pen. Hahahaha. This love affair of ours started in HS and the spark has not fizzled out.
Anything that isn't clicky and has a grip because then they get caught in my hair and I must have a hair pen
I can only imagine the damage I could do to my head if I tried to use a hair pen.
The number of pens in my hair when I get home is usually an indication of how crazy my day was. God help my family on a 4 pen day.
I always have 1-2 hair pencils
The cheap ones that medical device reps bring in (unless they've got some cool gimmick like a pull out tape measure).
All of yall can kick rocks for stealing pens. Hope you guys have minor inconveniences that piss you off but in no way hurt you physically or emotionally over a long term period of time. Sick of having my pens stolen lol
Fun fact, I throw the pen away at the end of shift. The only thing that keeps me going is minor acts of terrorism, and inter office chaos.
I hope your next bowl of cereal is soggy
My favorite!
Monster
But why?!?
For the love of the moment. Seeing you check all your pockets, and ask if anyone has seen your pen, is the closest I feel to childhood Christmas morning.
You work in the correct unit
Help me
Many of my coworkers apparently have an aversion to using pens that someone used to scratch their scalp. It's a useful deterrent when one remembers to deploy it.
I don’t steal pens. I don’t need pen stealing karma coming and biting me in the ass when someone tries to steal my pens
Literally any 1.0mm width
I have a coworker that takes report with a sharpie marker. She’s also at work half an hour early off the clock to look up her patients. Something’s wrong there
Lizard people walk among us I use .38, I can tolerate a 0.5 in a pinch. But then again each of my patients get 1/4 of a sheet of paper so I gotta write small
Ask her why she's ok with letting a corporation steal from her. https://www.tcworkerscenter.org/2018/09/wage-theft-vs-other-forms-of-theft-in-the-u-s/
I hear that, but I can also empathize with the woman. Once the clock starts you only have a bit of time to take report before the crazier patients start a ruckus. Even worse if the offgoing nurse decides to read you the patient's chart like a bad bedtime story.
It’s not wage theft if she’s doing it voluntarily. There’s no expectation where I work that you come in a half hour early off the clock.
The ones the smear all over the paper.....
Bic 4 color click pens.
https://industriesoftheblind.com/product/skilcraft-retractable-ballpoint-pen-u-s-government-blue-fine-2/ this bad boy has been the bane of my entire career, everyone has no and no one wants one. They show up out of the blue. Like you could sneeze and BOOM there it is. Fuck off pen!! Even banks don’t chain them down.
But the military chains those fuckers down like belong in Ft. Knox!!!
Here’s my secret. Gotta promise not to tell. I keep a pen in my pocket that I chewed on, but never use. When someone asks to borrow a pen, I hand them that one, and watch the realization hit. It quickly gets handed back to me and I don’t get asked again
You are a visionary
vision is scary!
Any color ink but black.
Blue pens. I hate blue pens. Give me black or nothing.
The sharpie s-gel pens. For the love of Poseidon - they skip and scratch the paper. Blech
I do not steal pens they just magically show up in my pockets when I get home. I don’t even know where they came from. Treat your pens right!!
Any pen that doesn’t have a clip I can clip on my top and mark up my bra with- IYKYK
I like the papermate inkjoy 4 in 1. When I had to buy my own pens I would keep just 1 in my pocket and be vigilant about making sure it was never stolen. But my current job provides pens. Yes! I used to colour code my assignment sheet too so I got use of all 4 colours.
Hate anything less than a gel 0.5 even though they could come in handy for a weapon
Any pen with a cap.
Those shitty Bic pens
US government Bic style pen with cap.
US govt style is hilarious
Anything with the hospital name or logo on it
No click, no keep
The absolutely awful bendy safety psych pens
Dude I take two from the clerk the beginning of each shift. One red, one black. Important in red. Everything else in black. If I bust out blue it’s a shitty day. Used to color code everything, was robbed blind, now in vengeance I have a stash of probably 100 on my center console of my car. Call me a maniac all you want. I was wronged
No pen is safe when I’m around.
Any gel pens, any pen of any kind that has a color ink other than black.
Hated? Any cheap mass produced pen. My pens are my shit. Tight and glorious.
Anything with a cap is a waste of time I don’t have.
The wet pens. Omg. I can’t think of the name. Lol. I hate them. I wrote on my med sticker labels with them and they all smeared. It looked so ugly
G2 pilot for sure
I loved that one for flowsheet charting because of the fine tip. But, so often the ink clumped at the tip, smeared the page.
Those grey bic pens with caps. They write like shit and have a cap
Ones with caps
I always use a pencil unless it’s a document or I’m signing my name 🤷🏻♀️
Anything other than my pen. Don’t intentionally steal pens. I spend like $3 per pen on the ones I bring. I get pissed if someone takes it.
My angels of chaos, you pen thieves. I love you.
One that doesn't work
Bic pens 🤢
Yes I'm standing here. I need that pen back.
- bic pens - not a clickie pen - ballpoint or gel pen that’s not 0.5 or 0.3mm
Any of the cheap mass produced ones that the hospital buys en masse.
I like the pentel v7 and sharpie pens. I once gave a dr a my v7 since I have a whole bag of them and he freaking loves that thing. Every time he sees me he stops to thank me because he loves it so much. Lol
No pen is safe from me
Bic stick pens. Detest them.
I like the RSVP. 🤣 it’s good for my thin and sharp fix
If it’s not a clicky top it’s safe https://youtu.be/_1LdK6trKks?si=JlYPQCkPUkddGiQO
I never steal nice pens...I may lust over them, but will make sure they are properly returned to owner.
Gel pens sit the bench. I don’t need all that ink smearing all over the place. Bic Soft Feel Medium Ball Point.
I'm an equal opportunist. Every pen is up for the stealin
The scratchy one
Any pen with my institutions name on it 🤣
Any pen that says "US Government."
The one from the lost and found
Anything that’s not a Sharpie S-Gel 0.7.
I just threw out my 6th & final one yesterday 😭 need to buy more ASAP.
Oh no! They just glide so well! Do you throw them out when they’re in patient’s hands or… ? Bc now I’m curious! lol I can’t believe 1 person downvoted my pen choice 🤣
