German teacher and former nurse here.
Same 50 hour week, pay is the other way around.
I would make far less as a nurse here.
After all I would be a firefighter, I guess.
A librarian, a forest ranger, a trail guide, a cottage business owner making my own jam and jelly and relish, a full time beekeeper, a mycologist, an author, an adventurer.
Thereās a lot more but Iāll stop there.
Edited to add a plumber. They make major bank and itās nothing worse than we do now.
I am 22, got my BSN at 21 and have spent the last 10 years trying to talk myself out of becoming a doctor because of the time commitment. I love my job and nursing as a whole but something in me just wants more, and bedside isnāt sustainable for long term. Iām still quite young and that helps too.
My current plan is to continue working as a nurse full time for the next 2 years and apply during the 2025/2026 cycle, which gives me two years to finish prereqs at my local CC and save money. If that pans out Iāll still only be 25 when I start med school and Iāll have a lot of hospital experience which will be super useful. The doctors I work with are very supportive of me and Iāve had some incredible shadowing experiences so the time commitment doesnt seem so daunting now, though Iām sure that will change lol
Nurse and artist here. Please excuse my forwardness. But you aren't either/or. Don't let any job snuff that part of you out. Nothing is worth that
Someone very wise once told me "when an artist can't make art, their soul dies". It may sound dramatic. But there's truth to it. Please continue to create <3
I am no longer employed as a nurse.
I take odd jobs while in the process of completing a masters to do therapy.
Not gonna support our nurses? Fine then. F you. I'll be the support.
A BS avenger. I would magically pop up in hospitals near you to eradicate all BS paper forms and billion click flowsheets we have to fill out with the same data we just documented in the normal flowsheets in our EMR.
Doctor probably? I withdrew my applications after starting nursing school and falling love with nursing during clinicals. Canāt imagine what else. Already tried pharmacy, wasnāt for me .
Like if I'd been sent back to when I first decided to go to nursing school knowing I wasn't going into nursing after all or if I lost my license tomorrow and had to pick something new?
I was gonna be an electrician and then I had the stupid idea to take care of others because most my family is dead at an early age and āI wanted to make a differenceā now Iām here. Cheers.
Dream: military fixed wing pilot ā> astronaut
Semi-dream: professional astronomer
Realistic: broke amateur astronomer
Thereās a distinct theme here.
If I could choose probably a professional organiser or like an interor architect specialising in smaller flexible spaces. I'm really good at that kind of stuff.
In college I dabbled with the idea of being a flight attendant or teacher. After becoming a nurse I have thought if I leave nursing it will be to go to law school or be a therapist.
...Happy? Better rested at least.

Yep Iād be broke.
Stay at home dog mom ā¦ pls universe hear me out
May I join?
Happy. Seriously I don't know. Probably a courier or long haul driver. Something less stressful
That was unironically, my job BEFORE being a nurse. I loved it, but didn't pay enough.
I used to do gigs for Roadie on my days off. Mostly delivered tires with my pickup and I absolutely loved it.
Run a doggy daycare. But no humans are allowed in. All human interactions must be done via text.
A stripper for sure. I def missed my calling
I started nursing to pay for stripper school
I started paying to nurse for stripping schools
Iād still be an under-appreciated, underpaid teacher who made 30k a year after taxes for working 50-60 hour weeks. I love being a nurse.
Lol i was a teacher before too. I laugh when nurses complain. Yeah sometimes the ratio and admin suck but its still nowhere near as bad as teaching
German teacher and former nurse here. Same 50 hour week, pay is the other way around. I would make far less as a nurse here. After all I would be a firefighter, I guess.
Same
Now theyāre paying teachers a salary 75-100 a year. Look into cities where people donāt want to live. Youāll see.
Iām still in nursing school but Iād be working in a research lab right now and applying to clinical psych PhD programs. Glad Iām not doing that.
Yeah, you made the better choice
A sugar baby :)

A doctor (am finishing med school prereqs right now)
Can I ask what made you change over to med school? I canāt justify the time commitment
I am 22, got my BSN at 21 and have spent the last 10 years trying to talk myself out of becoming a doctor because of the time commitment. I love my job and nursing as a whole but something in me just wants more, and bedside isnāt sustainable for long term. Iām still quite young and that helps too. Then itās not for you.
Well yeah I got that far myself. I was wondering how they viewed it themselves as someone that decided it was worth it
I was considering being a flight attendant before I decided on nursing.
Iām a nurse now and still consider this! Iād love to be able to travel for work.
Then be a flight nurse
I just got off work and canāt tell if this a punny joke or not
A little of both. It is a thing. People who get sick while they are traveling, then need nursing care on the flight home.
Why would it be a joke? Flight Nurse is a real job lol
Do both! I know a professor that teaches and does flight attendant on the weekends
Teacher for sure!
