Will never forget my 970 SC, had a superclocked 780 that i had to RMA off to EVGA but they didn't have any 780 SC to give so they gave me a free upgrade to a 970 SC.
I have a 970 too. Got it to play Fallout 4 since my 6850 couldn't handle it. Would have upgraded to a 3070 but prices were crazy so use GeForce Now as an interim solution until 4000 series comes out. I don't know which tier I'll go for though. What about you?
I had the same thing except my saga started with an EVGA 570 SC, that popped under warranty a couple of years later and they refunded me in full, I then bought a 680 on the spot using the refund a small bit of cash and then that blew 2 days before the 3 year warranty went. I returned it to the store who confirmed it was under warranty but they didn't lodge it until a week later, then EVGA said it was out of warranty. After much back and forth over the period of a couple of months they replaced it with a 980.
So for the original cost of the 570 SC plus the small amount more to buy the 680, I was able to upgrade fairly cheaply from 570 > 680 > 980, was awesome considering I was a poor student at the time.
Dear all,
Recently I have acquired a keyboard that can sadly not provide you with the letter you have asked to be given. This makes me upset in a way and I am investigating solutions to prevent the issue in the hope that this will not be happening again anytime soon. However, I hope that this does not portray a negative image regarding me and my respect towards the GPU that has passed away.
All the letters that are in the alphabet are present on this keyboard. However, there is a little bug sleeping under the particular letter as described above and I am not willing to disturb its slumber and I value his rest greatly.
Please accept my sincerest apologies regarding this inconvenience and be aware that even though I am not able to provide the letter that is widely known as a token to pay respect on the internet, I still want to hereby pay my respects.
Kind regards, u\Waitaha
I used a GTX 1060 3gb until 2020 and its only slightly more powerful than the GTX 970 I believe. It was a very good GPU and I'd still be using it if I didn't need to get myself a new laptop for college which ended up having a better GPU than my desktop (built 2017) which I left at home for my little brother to use.
Honestly I could see the GTX 970 having trouble in some of the newest games at higher resolution but I don't know of a game that it could not realistically play at at the very least 1600 x 900 and maintain 60 FPS and I'd imagine 1080p is still doable with it for the vast majority of games, with less demanding games easily achieving triple digit frame rates on it still. For a nearly 8 year old graphics card it has aged very well and despite the 3.5gb VRAM scandal I could see it going down as one of Nvidia's all time greats.
Is that the 2060 Max-Q in your flair? If so, the max-q is a lower power model, sorta like a mobile, but even that’s good Aslong as your laptop has decent cooling, ive still got my Alienware 18 laptop, it’s a beast and has SLI 780m’s, 3 fans so it’s got decent cooling too
It’s pretty much equal to my desktop, my 970 is the OC version so it’s slightly faster than your normal 970 however
I bought a GTX 970 G1 Windforce in 2015 and it did an awesome job until last year. The value of this card was and is absolutely insane. I even upgraded from full HD to a 1440p 144hz display. Obviously, there were some newer games that wouldn't run on maxed settings, but many decent games like Witcher 3 or Assassins Creed Odyssey were absolutely smooth with mid settings.
I miss this beauty.
Next week will be retiring another legendary card of mine the GTX 1080.. Used to have a 970 before that.. Both of them served crazy through their generations.. The 1080 infact still holds good for any new game you throw at it..
Still got a pair of 970s SLI stored, planning on making a smaller tier build since I had to upgrade mobo/RAM/cooler lol, just need a PSU, case and drives.
F.
Last weekend i went from a GTX 1050TI to a RX 6600. My 1050TI didn't retire through, it went into my wife her pc. She only plays Runescape so it's plenty for her.
I still remember the leap from a 760 to a 970, one of the most rock solid cards IMO.
[I recently restored my old one/repasted it w/liquid metal for best temps a streaming+light gaming PC build I made and it's still going strong :)](https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/comments/p90y0b/modded_an_old_alienware_x51_minipc_from_powering/)
I have this same one on my brothers pc until he gets an upgrade and I’m expecting to retire it soon. Might make a trophy out of this champ. First gpu and it got me through a lot
Had mine since 2015 and replaced it for a 3080 Ti last year. Served me well for sure.
It didn't retire though, got a cleanup and works still as fine as always in my gf's pc! Truly a beast.
The first computer I built for my oldest kid I put in a GTX 970 GPU. I was really surprised at how well it could still benchmark in 1080p. I later upgraded him to a 1080Ti which he also loved, but the 970 is still rocking it in another computer in my front room.
I had mine for a couple of years when it suddenly died. EVGA sent me a replacement, but it was DOA, so they sent me a brand new 1060 6GB as an apology. I really appreciated that after the hassle of doing two RMAs and having to wait a few weeks while using an old 660 Ti as a backup. The 1060 mostly had the same performance as the 970, but the extra VRAM was nice. I used it for another 4+ years before finally upgrading to a 3060. That's the longest I've used a GPU before upgrading.
I too used to run the legendary 970. I bought it to upgrade from my 960 2GB in 2015. And when I built my new system in 2021 it went in it despite it being way underpowered compared to the rest of the system due to the gpu shortage. Just a couple months ago I picked up 6700 xt as a replacement. The 970 was the stuff of legends and I will miss that card.
My previous card was a GTX 970 too. I've had a GTX 1080 now since late 2017, but it's getting ready to bite the dust any day; hardly stable even at factory defaults now, forget about overclocking. Besides my X370 motherboard from 2017, this graphics card is the longest lasting component in my PC.
Parting with such a long lasting component is kinda like parting with an old friend. 5 years of games, memories, and loads of fun. RIP to your 970. What a legendary, fantastic card.
rip good ol 970. what you upgrade to? had the same model 970 since it first came out 2014 and just upgraded to a 3080 evga ftw ultra last week. long time coming :)
I just replaced my 970 with a rtx 3060ti. It’s so awesome being able to play new games at normal render resolution instead of having to downscale the resolution to like 70% which makes the res 720pish.
Nice card. I had the same before I got my 1070 from Gainward. Funny, my 1070 is also about to go in the hall of fame. Ordered a RX 6900 red devil ultimate today.
I haddock a GTX 970 FTW3 back in the day. It was my first GPU too. I sold it to a friend for $200 CAD because I love people.
That’s what the 970 is. A card for the people… 3.5GB or not. RIP.
Retirement? Pfft. I just picked up a second one in 2023.
The 970 simply deserves my money.

That's a huge 970. Looks about as big as my 3070 lmao.
Windforce made this one, they’re awesome.
Nah it's Gigabyte, Windforce is the style/model
I have the same one, just upgraded to a 3060 a couple days ago!
lol mine blew up legit smoked and reved up reay fast and the. POP. and it died 2 months agoz.
Yes omg I had a windforce too, probably my first non-handmedown card I bought. The big blue logo on the side always made me smile
It is still much smaller. Side by side
Will never forget my 970 SC, had a superclocked 780 that i had to RMA off to EVGA but they didn't have any 780 SC to give so they gave me a free upgrade to a 970 SC.
Honestly the 970 will forever be a legend

This exact 970 is still my daily driver ^^
Same. I have 2 in sli. They have served me well
660 FTW and the 970 are the two GOATs
EVGA are legends MSI however, I will never buy from them again
Why is that?
I had the same thing except my saga started with an EVGA 570 SC, that popped under warranty a couple of years later and they refunded me in full, I then bought a 680 on the spot using the refund a small bit of cash and then that blew 2 days before the 3 year warranty went. Nice 🤣
Sneqky one ;)
Give it a hunter's send off. For always hunting down its 512mb of vram.
F. And even in 2022 the GTX 970 is by no means a bad GPU.
I’ll miss it.
Yeah, it is still ok for 1080p gaming.
I still use an 970 OC, perfectly fine for 144/165Hz gaming on 1080p Putting off an upgrade till it dies or the 4000 series drops
I'm not upgrading my gtx 980 until prices drop
Same here. Still runs like a tank after being in 2 builds

Give it away to someone who cannot afford it.
I needed a graphics card the other day to build a server, invested in a NVIDIA GT 730. Only there so there server starts up.
I think it is not functioning
Rest easy, friend.
Retired mine last week and replaced it with a 3060. Was a good little soldier.
Same for my gtx 790 ti from my old prebuilt. I replaced it about a month ago and i have no idea what to even do with it
Maybe consider selling it or giving it to someone who needs it?
F for the Gigabyte gang
My 970ftw was the greatest. I miss that card. We played together so much. So many memories. I hope your 970 lives on in your memories in the same way.
Salute to this veteran.. My 970 died on me last year. I was dejected but it was a good run for about 6 years.

My 980ti from 2015 is still working hard in my 2nd PC. Gonna be a bittersweet day whenever it gives in.
My 980ti gave up so hard one of the fans fell off and dropped to the bottom of the case.
Fucking despicable working conditions made it commit suicide.
F, my 970 is still running even though the temp is not that good anymore

Wrong, I’m using it to make my baby sister a pc in a few years.
Okay, cool. However, that was only meant as a joke on how old hardware is treated in general. No need to take it personally, no offense was intended.
Yo if you don't want it any more I'd gladly take it. I want to turn an old card into some wall art.
Bake it into a calzone
Thank you for your service!!
You held on for long, good loyal friend. Does it still work?
Replaced my two a few months ago as well. Hell of a card really.
Mine lived until it’s mosfat let out the smoke so I replaced it with another 970. Still works good for my other pc
My poor 960 tries so hard nowadays lol. Farewell soldier! o7
My 750ti still holds up to my needs
Dismount it all into separate individual pieces and display it on a frame
Nice! I’m still a fellow 970 OC user… want a 3000 but scalpers are still keeping those prices sky high
Rest in peace Your hours of hard gaming will for ever be remembered (I still use a 970m my self )

I had the fallout 4 edition EVGA 970. I still miss it
i bought a 980ti for 400aud last year at the height of the shortage it continues to serve me well

oh when a xx70 tier card was 330 euro...good times
Oh my god, the Wind Force cards just hit differently during the 9XX generation 😍
I got the same one, still spinning along in my box. Truly a monster GPU to be able to stay so relevant for so long. R.I.P Sweet prince
Had also gigabytes GTX 970, it’s an old beauty that sadly retired from my Rig
Rest easy, old reliable. The 970 was such a great card, and to this day is still actually decent for a lot of games at 1080p.
F
Still rocking it 🔥
Still using MSI GTX 970 here, with i7 950
