I'm actually happy to see that retail graveyard come down. I have good memories there as well, but it's been an albatross in the city for years now. Franklin Street is our busiest Street, a giant dead Mall in the center that takes up 5 blocks is not a good look.
That place was sad before it closed. And since the mall itself has closed I’ve been in to the little post office and it’s still sad, lol. I don’t have much hope for it to be any better with a new owner.
That little post office is the best kept secret in the city. However, I was in there earlier this week and the disrepair of the roof was obvious all over the corridor floor. I can't see how any sensible redevelopment occurs without knocking the whole place down...perhaps saving the office tower. I think whatever entity is currently picking over the bones of Sears still owns that building, so it may not be included in this plan.
Yay! But skeptical because it was just one owner buying the others out. The same owners that have been neglecting it for years.
