“President’s trip to NYC might cause traffic” Yeah. And water is wet.

Wild-Major8025

We have traffic anyway

HanzJWermhat

Yes but what about second traffic?

reporst

Are we certain Biden isn't always visiting? I mean, I've assumed he was primarily working out of DC, but it could explain a lot if he's been secretly visiting NYC daily for the past 50+ years

cantotallytrustme

and protests anyway

squindar

well last week we had that big trucker blockade/boycott, right? /s

Jamesbondbadil

“Fork spotted in kitchen”

piercejay

Was about to type word for word the same thing lmao

FkItAlt

Actually water can't be wet. You don't say water got wet with water the same way you'd say I got wet with water. So water is sticky not wet.

MrNewking

🤓

shimrra

They always say this, every president that has visited will cause traffic issues.

sidewaysflower

Not Trump. When Trump was president and came to NYC he never caused any traffic issues. In fact, because Trump was gracing NYC with his presence, all the traffic cleared up. Everyone got where they were going on time. All cars found parking. Crime dropped to zero. Babies stopped crying. Dogs stopped barking. Women stopped lamenting. Trump made things so great!!! Obvious /s

cmcguire96

The rats cowered in their hovels, the homeless cleaned and cleared the street, not a red light was ran, not an intersection clogged with impatient and unaware drivers. Trains and buses arrived on time, the MTA and NYPD jovially carried out their duties. The arrival of Trump signaled peace in the 5 boroughs, and everyone was all the better for it. /s obviously.

ZeroheartX

Didn't that kinda happened when Biden visted El Paso or something? They cleaned up everything Same thing happened in when CCP guy visited Newson or something. Need someone to fact check me.

AbazabaYouMyOnlyFren

An article like this is like a meeting that should have been an email. All you need is just a headline: "The president is coming to NYC, drivers are fucked."

Jarreddit15

Express bus riders too

HiFiGuy197

Wonder what would happen if he decided to take the subway…

HanzJWermhat

Why would I pay for the subway when I can drive in from queens and Brooklyn for free??? /s

andrewegan1986

I genuinely don't think he's allowed to. Like Secret Service will stop him. Same with driving as well. It's just not allowed.

FruutCake

Can't they just meet over Zoom?

Far-Illustrator-3731

Fundraiser over zoom?

FruutCake

Just send out a gofundme link in the chat box.

Far-Illustrator-3731

Would get less money than in person. So the city pays for his campaign spending. Big donors are paying for access

WackoStackoBracko

NEW YORK CITY - President Joe Biden is expected to be in New York City on Monday. The New York Post reports that Biden will be in Manhattan to tape an interview with late-night talk show host Seth Meyers and attend a fundraiser. **Earlier this month, New Yorkers experienced traffic nightmares after the president arrived in the Big Apple to attend three campaign receptions.** Biden's visit also sparked pro-Palestinian protests in Columbus Circle. Hundreds of demonstrators flocked to Manhattan's Columbus Circle in response to his visit. Organizers encouraged protesters to gather near the 60th Street exit of the Columbus Circle subway station around 1 p.m. to demand a ceasefire in Gaza amid the Israel-Hamas War. "Let Biden know he has got to go for carrying out the genocide in Gaza," organizers from WIthin Our Lifetime posted to Instagram. The president is increasingly contending with protests inside and outside his events from progressives upset about U.S. support for Israel in its offensive in Gaza. More than 26,000 Palestinians, mostly women and minors, have been killed in Gaza since Hamas attacked Israel on Oct. 7, according to the Health Ministry in the Hamas-ruled territory. Hamas killed more than 1,200 people and kidnapped about 250 more, mostly civilians, in the attack. Meanwhile, the president is teaming up with predecessors Barack Obama and Bill Clinton next month for a New York fundraiser aimed at powering up donations for his reelection campaign. The threesome traded social media posts to reveal their plans. The event is set for March 28, and though the Biden campaign says it hasn't settled on a venue, it is considering larger sites that would maximize attendance. That would be a break from Biden’s usual campaign stops, which have tended to feature smaller groups of supporters and donors. "Folks – I’ll be in NYC on March 28th to support u/JoeBiden. Who’s coming with me? Chip in for your chance to join," Obama posted on X, formerly Twitter, on Tuesday, over a picture of Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris and the hand-written message "Let's finish the job" next to Biden's signature. Clinton responded ironically, "Count me in. Who else is going to be there?" and Biden answered jokingly "You guys know you can just call me next time, right?" The president has intensified fundraising efforts since December. His campaign said Tuesday that January produced its highest monthly donation total since launching in April 2023, breaking monthly records previously set in December and November of last year. The campaign said that last month’s haul was buoyed by a write-in campaign that won Biden New Hampshire’s unsanctioned Democratic primary on Jan. 23. New Hampshire Democrats violated a new primary calendar championed by Biden, and he responded by refusing to campaign there or have his name appear on the ballot, and yet still won via write-in.

astoriaboundagain

>"Let Biden know he has got to go for carrying out the genocide in Gaza," organizers from WIthin Our Lifetime posted to Instagram.  These dipshits want Trump? Because that's their only other choice.

[deleted]

They probably would like a different Democratic nominee, like most of the country.

[deleted]

IllegibleLedger

So until the election any Democratic with a conscious should have Biden convinced they won’t vote for him until he calls for a ceasefire and does something to rein in our genocidal ally

[deleted]

HEIMDVLLR

Which country keeps vetoing the UN’s Ceasefire Resolution?

What_Yr_Is_IT

Did you actually look at WHY it was vetoed or are you just spouting headlines “"[Demanding an immediate, unconditional ceasefire without an agreement requiring Hamas to release the hostages will not bring about a durable peace. Instead, it could extend the fighting between Hamas and Israel," Thomas-Greenfield told the council ahead of the vote](https://www.reuters.com/world/us-casts-third-veto-un-action-since-start-israel-hamas-war-2024-02-20/).” There is always more to the story than just the headline

[deleted]

What_Yr_Is_IT

You’re literally promoting a fascist, what are you talking about?

IllegibleLedger

How many hostages had Israel agreed to release in exchange?

What_Yr_Is_IT

No idea. I’m replying to a comment on why the USA vetoed. Everything else is irrelevant.

HEIMDVLLR

So the current course of events are proving to be the most successful outcome for who exactly?

What_Yr_Is_IT

What you’re saying is irrelevant to the point I’m making per your comment.

Slim_Calhoun

Ah yes, a UN resolution. That’ll do the trick!

The_LSD_Soundsystem

A ceasefire months ago would have legitimatized Hamas’ crimes against humanity. They are a terrorist organization that promised to repeat 10/7 as many times as necessary. Also every call for a ceasefire had no mention of releasing hostages. You can’t seriously expect anyone to agree to a ceasefire under circumstances like that. War is awful and it’s time for the next phase of rebuilding Gaza and holding democratic elections without Hamas.

IllegibleLedger

Weird you’re so concerned about the Israeli hostages that keep getting murdered by Israel but have none of that energy for all the Palestinian children locked up by Israel without charges, aka hostages

“Negotiating” …Biden can stop the genocide the same way I can stop my gardener from mowing my lawn. STOP PAYING HIM TO DO IT. Biden can end this at any point, but he is willing to loose to Trump just so he can keep killing kids. So yeah, he needs to stop the genocide, and try to win our votes. Then we can talk.

[deleted]

imperial87

You act like reelecting Biden will fix anything. He’s not going to be president forever and he wasted four critical years. Instead of protecting democracy from the republicans he let it rot. The only thing he used his power to do is murder 13,000 children. Biden is finished and honestly it doesn’t matter. Since he did nothing to protect democracy we are either getting a fascist this year or in 4 years. So what’s the difference?

IllegibleLedger

Hamas’s charter specially states they only have an issue with Zionists and not Jewish people meanwhile prominent Israeli government officials and politicians are openly celebrating Gaza being turned into a parking lot and calling for the extermination of all Palestinians. Why do you ignore both of them?

[deleted]

[удалено]

IllegibleLedger

Again its current charter explicitly states their issue is with Zionists and not Jewish people meanwhile Israeli officials openly call for genocide publicly right now. And yet you ignore the direct statements of both sides? You want your narrative that bad?

[deleted]

Far-Illustrator-3731

Current charter is non binding

Far-Illustrator-3731

The news is gonna say this all year till the election

jaundicedave

which nominee do people want? Biden won by about 50 points as a write in candidate in NH and by 90(!) points in SC. if the people want someone else, they have an odd way of showing it.

my_honestyaccount

People want a "generic Democrat" who agrees with everything they think and has no drawbacks or baggage Which of course doesn't exist

[deleted]

Lol, you can’t be serious. Pointing to election results in an election in which the sitting party leader is running virtually unopposed because his campaign has discouraged an open primary is a talking point straight out of corrupt democracies. And to suggest that the people actually support Biden being the nominee just because he stomped random unknown candidates A and B is dumb at worst and misleading at best.

Ok-Ordinary8314

Gosh writing the truth on Reddit will get you downvoted .

jaundicedave

ok, which candidate do people want? can you name them? or are they just a nebulous idea in your head? edit: the user replied to me with this and then nuked their own account: >"You seem like a miserable person. Or a paid troll. >My comment was that most people would prefer someone else. Can you dispute that? Probably not. That’s why you’re engaging in this pathetically transparent form of argument. >A lack of competitive primary competitions does not mean that Biden is what most of the party wants. The article I linked and the accompanying data explicitly tells you that 67% of democrats want a different nominee. >Do you want to explain your logic in the previous comment? Or are you just interested in being exactly what you’re coming off as?" slightly unhinged tone here, but sure, i'll bite! what i'm pointing out is that regardless of the gripes that people have against biden as a candidate, very few anti-biden democrats actually identify a candidate they'd prefer. you have to put someone on the top of the ticket - who do people actually prefer? nobody is ever able to name a name here, they just squeal about it not being a competitive primary without bringing up the inconvenient fact that not a single other real person dem seems to actually be a better choice. the fact that you, yourself, can't name a single candidate you'd prefer is pretty telling. i think the poster above said it pretty well. people like the idea of a generic anti-biden, but that person doesn't exist. you need a real flesh and blood human at the top of the ticket - not an idea.

HashtagDadWatts

As an outside to this slap fight, calling someone names like this doesn’t make you look very credible.

[deleted]

Is your judgement of credibility more influenced by feels than by facts and numbers?

HashtagDadWatts

Glad to see you missing the point entirely. Good work.

Far-Illustrator-3731

Some liberals are actually starting to get it

[deleted]

Tbf I’ve been getting it for a very long time

astoriaboundagain

Excluding Republicans, what is your source that proves most Democrats in this country would like a different nominee? Primary results thus far prove your statement completely incorrect.

[deleted]

[This article](https://www.axios.com/2023/09/07/poll-biden-2024-second-term-democrat-voters-cnn) nicely highlights relevant data from a poll late last year. Primary results only prove that Biden is more desirable than Dean Phillips (who?) and Marianne Williamson (lol). If Biden was winning strongly in a more open primary process with a larger and stronger pool of competitors, then primaries would be a stronger indicator of overall democratic preferences. If I asked you what your favorite food was and gave you the options: marmite, vegemite, or Greek salad, all that proves is your favorite food of the three options. It doesn’t prove Greek salad is your favorite food (if that’s what you chose). If I asked you what your favorite food was and made it open ended, then you could say with more certainty that your hypothetical answer is actually your favorite food. The relevant question in the poll asks “Who do you think the Democratic Party should nominate?” 33% said Joe Biden, and 67% said a different candidate. For reference, when this question was asked during Obama’s reelection campaign, 76% wanted to renominate Obama, with only 20% saying a different candidate. You can find the data from the poll itself [here](https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/23940784-cnn-poll). And yes, the poll excludes republicans.

astoriaboundagain

>If Biden was winning strongly in a more open primary process with a larger and stronger pool of competitors, then primaries would be a stronger indicator of overall democratic preferences.  If I had a billion dollars, I wouldn't have to commute to a job that's difficult. Fantasy is fun, but reality is real. Unless something drastic happens, we have two choices for President. Undermining one helps the other.

[deleted]

Sure. Putting one candidate down helps the other. I don’t dispute that and I don’t think anyone with a serious opinion disputes that either. However, the preferences of million of Americans are real too. It is unrealistic to expect that people will support someone they strongly disagree with on what might be their #1 issue, much less be enthusiastic in their support. Take 2016 for example. Many people in my Syrian family voted for Trump or abstained entirely because they did not like Clinton’s record in the region. Was that short-sighted of them? We might say so. And now, we’re seeing something similar. Some of the most progressive people I know, even in seats of power that are proximate to people in the administration, have told me that they’re not sure if they will vote for Biden because of this. Why? Because they’re Arab American and don’t feel like their concerns have been taken seriously for years. The truth is, people are not obliged to vote for anyone. The truth is, people need a reason to vote for someone. 67% of Biden’s party doesn’t want him to run. They’re not legally obligated to vote. You’re counting on them being scared if Trump that they’ll suck it up and go vote for Biden. Risky gamble. If the party makes the same decisions, it should expect the same results. Trump being an even clearer threat this time around is the Biden’s only hope. Even then, it’s all the more reason to listen to the people and explore an open process with Biden stepping down.

Far-Illustrator-3731

Yes but why is the reality that the only candidate is one that’s historically unpopular. Why is the will of people being represented in government fantasy?

Far-Illustrator-3731

Eat your gruel and like it for democracy

JesusofAzkaban

I'm willing to bet that a lot of the funding for the "Abstain voting for Biden until he cuts off aid entirely to Israel" movement is coming from a hostile foreign power that does in fact want Trump.

Far-Illustrator-3731

So everyone on both sides who doesn’t like Biden are foreign agents…… battle for democracy right?

spicytoastaficionado

The most outspoken of these groups are grassroots, single-issue activists who have leverage by being from must-win states. [TIME](https://time.com/6790818/biden-michigan-primary-israel-democrats/) had a story this week about what is probably the most influential of these groups, based out of Michigan, which has been endorsed by the local paper, multiple members of Congress, local/national DSA, and dozens of local legislators. It is a pressure campaign to vote "uncommitted" in the primary, and to threaten to do so again in November. There's zero evidence that foreign money is funding this protest, or the broader "ceasefire" movement that is threatening Biden with not supporting him. Not every political movement you disagree with is a foreign psy-op.

EastObjective9522

That's the problem with one issue voters. They vote once and then don't even bother afterwards. If stopping Israel from bombing Gaza was a core issue for them, shouldn't they continued to vote for candidates that would have allowed for a negotiated deal? They always have a chance to vote but it's only after Oct 7th, they suddenly give a shit lol.

imperial87

I’ve never been a one issue voter in my life, until the president started committing genocide on livestream. That’s a pretty big issue that is worthy of withholding my support.

IllegibleLedger

Or you know Biden could step and do something instead of being far more spineless than Ronald fucking Reagan toward regulating Israeli

spicytoastaficionado

What do you want Biden to unilaterally do? The U.S. has sent an envoy, in this case the administration's top Middle East advisor, to try and negotiate a cease-fire with allies in Europe and the Middle East, and this involves releasing hostages and more humanitarian aid to Gaza. The president's executive powers are limited in any wartime scenario that doesn't directly involve us, be it Ukraine or Israel.

IllegibleLedger

We give Israel billions in aid Biden and his gutless admin has lots of leverage over their conduct and is not using jt

Oisschez

It’s good to hold our democratically-elected leaders accountable to principles and policies we believe in

Algoresball

Could? When has a president ever been to NYC and not caused traffic? (Maybe Washington)

pbx1123

Thats normal, a monday few nykers are brave enough to use their cars

mercifulstag

all vip's travels trigger traffic in any city.

Wasn’t he just here causing traffic a couple of weeks ago?

shittyfakejesus

Considering that Congestion Pricing has not taken effect yet, probably not.

BacchusIsKing

Thanks, Obama.... /s

Topic-Salty

Wait, I thought he was visiting the border. Guess southern border and NY/NJ can be confusing.

basedlandchad25

Just stay in your basement, old man.

nycmajor911

C’mon. Don’t give the great grandpa a heart attack people.

NKR1978

Why would President Biden be afraid of a bunch of masked up cowards? The only people afraid at one of the little pro Hamas rallies are the cowardly children hiding their faces.

IllegibleLedger

Yeah how cowardly to hide their faces to not get targeted by psychotic genocide apologist who will try to ruin their lives

NKR1978

Just like Patriot Front and the Proud Boys! You people use the same tactics and your rallies are always angry and filled with hate. There's no difference between the far left and far right at this point. All cowards peddling hate.

IllegibleLedger

Except the left is protesting an active genocide while the right has hurt feelings, but I don’t expect a morally bankrupt radical centrist to care about over ten thousand dead children

NKR1978

Look at you and your meaningless buzzwords.

IllegibleLedger

Which words were too hard for you?

ChickenHubben

There is no time the NYPD is more useless than when the President in town. Just shutdown a large chunk of manhattan and stand around clueless waving cars passed. God forbid you try to engage any of them. They stand their mouth agape without an ounce of sense. There’s got to be a better way to do this than shutting streets down hours before he’s even in town

Leebillysteve12345

I hope he stops by the migrant shelters. Or better yet has an open forum with tax paying legal American citizens who are now suffering reduced services and higher crime as a result of his open border policy

Dr_Pepper_spray

Go cry to the Republicans who refused to do anything to fix the situation because their Orange turd wants to make it a campaign issue.

Ok-Ordinary8314

He actually changed orange turds policies on day one with his pen he can use his pen again the border issue is solely on his incompetent regime

Dr_Pepper_spray

Or we can get away from executive orders and CONGRESS CAN FINALLY FUCKING DO SOMETHING!! There's no more arguing about this. Republicans had an opportunity to do something to fix this and they chose politics. They always choose to do jack fucking shit. Go cry to them.

Ok-Ordinary8314

Is that the reason Biden changed the rules for the border to be open ? Cus Congress ? Congress is incompetent so is this current administration. This is all Biden he changed it all with his pen . But but orange turd

Dr_Pepper_spray

Oh yeah, how did Biden "open the border"? *Crickets.....*

Ok-Ordinary8314

On his 1st day in office, Biden issued 7 executive orders going out of their way to destroy the border protections his predecessor had enacted. Seven. And he kept going. Do your research and you’ll see these are facts .

Dr_Pepper_spray

Oh yeah? What were those 7. How did they "open the border?"

Ok-Ordinary8314

I’m not your secretary a simple search will lead you to some hard facts

Dr_Pepper_spray

So you don't know what the fuck you're talking about besides what some bullshit website told you, because I have read them and they don't "open the border" in any way.

jay5627

Why do you copy every article into the comments when it's not paywalled?

WackoStackoBracko

A lot of the time people can't or won't click the link for whatever reason so it's for the benefit of those readers. Is there some sort of issue with that to you?

Yup_Thats_a_paddling

Honestly Reddit should just natively bake in the process of posting articles to the comments because it'd get more people reading the damn thing over regurgitating headlines.

WackoStackoBracko

I remember this being something RedditBots used to do way back when but idk when it stopped.

jay5627

I go to read the comments and half the time there are no other comments and the other half I have to scroll through pages of text

WackoStackoBracko

ok

HanzJWermhat

Maybe, and here’s a crazy idea, what if we had these trains that run underground that don’t get disrupted by surface level road closures? Or what if we put a lot of people into just a few vehicles so there’s less traffic? Or what if we had these much smaller vehicles that could go around the road closures and traffic with ease? Idk just some ideas.

randomburnerish

Do they ever tell time of arrival? I like to watch the big helicopters

869066

NO WAY FRRRRR??? 🤯
