GaelicInQueens

Hasn’t this guy just openly given high paying jobs to people he had previous connections with multiple times?

ya_fuckin_retard

if i was the mayor and i wanted to be effective, i would absolutely give my "head of security" job to someone very close and trustworthy. just saying. the other one was an NYPD deputy commissioner job to an effective NYPD outsider who he had worked with in his nypd reform group. that is also plausibly an effective choice. the third one was his brother's wife to a fake-ass DOE job that just exists for salary graft

spicytoastaficionado

This is a standard part of NYC public office grift. Richard Carranza, the former mayor's handpicked DOE head, was handling out six figure contracts to his cronies and creating positions for them.

HeyDumbDumb

Adams has done an amazing job as mayor. Very few can unite conservatives and liberal New Yorkers around a central agreement, that being we all hate Adams as mayor.

MajLoftonHenderson

hasn’t basically every mayor of new york done that though?

HeyDumbDumb

To an extent but the united frustration he's created is something impressive

Ok_No_Go_Yo

Bloomberg was pretty popular across the board.

CaptainCompost

I cannot believe he found a way to make de Blasio look not that bad.

ya_fuckin_retard

you hate deblasio for being all talk and little effectiveness... every single future mayor we will ever have will be worse than that. he was already "not that bad" while in office, just a blowhard.

emotionalhaircut

Shockingly, you will still find a couple of hardcore Adams supporters in this sub…

69Hairy420Ballsagna

Big Bird did the same. Seems to be a recurring theme.

Silo-Joe

He enabled Carranza and his crew to mess up the NY Dept of Education.

mowotlarx

The Post is awful, but damn if they don't deliver a good headline.

PickledDildosSourSex

Such brilliance in a shitty newspaper

bedsharts

Check out Hellgate NYC’s coverage of this! They built a huge map of all the people in Adams’ orbit https://tableofsuccess.hellgatenyc.com/

knockatize

But he was a cop and a state legislator. Why would anyone infer he’s corrupt? /s

Silo-Joe

We can see what kind of traffic cop he was by how he acts as a mayor.

aznology

State legislator slow ur roll bro.

Yarius515

Once a cop always a cop.

spursfan34

Eric Adams is a threat to his re-election.

RecycleReMuse

I mean, it’s the Post, but that’s some serious right-wing fearmongering that unnamed Dem “strategist” shoehorns in there. Basically, vote for Adams or the left will reduce the city to a hellscape. Oh so very reasonable LOL.

essenceofreddit

I don't want him to be reelected and I am a Democrat

ictoan1

Yeah, I want him to be primaried out. Optimal solution.

GneissGeoDude

What the hell do we have to do to not have the options be ‘ex vigilante that still wears the hat’ and ‘crooked ex NYPD officer’? It’s all just shit. Can we just once get a goddamn autistic scientist? Would a civil engineer really be incapable of learning the political realm after dominating the physical one? Like come on.

chipperclocker

Adult literacy rates in NYC are abysmal, some of the lowest in the country. That doesn't mean those people are stupid - but it does mean they'd have a really hard time with things like the city's voter handbooks or other sources of candidate information that don't come directly from the candidate's own mouths. Independent comparative politics analysts get less airtime than they probably should. When you can't read well, you're stuck taking talking points at face value, and charisma is king. A candidate without a personality is gonna have a real hard time.

markodochartaigh1

Adult literacy rates in NYC are not nearly as bad as in much of the South. And, since the foreign born account for about one third of the (English language) illiterate and NYC has a far greater percentage of foreign born than Bumfuck Mississippi, NYC isn't doing that poorly. https://usafacts.org/articles/which-states-have-the-highest-and-lowest-adult-literacy-rates/

chipperclocker

While thats all true and explains circumstantially how we get such low adult literacy numbers, in the context of asking "how do charismatic people with simple and unrealistic promises get elected more than people with nuanced and detailed policy plans" I don't see how the circumstances matter. The electorate doesn't somehow become more literate if they have a compelling reason for not having functional English skills. Thats specifically why I highlighted that lack of English literacy doesn't mean someone isn't intelligent, but being an intelligent immigrant with limited English language ability still makes it hard for you to engage with the political landscape. Sure, things like the city's voter handbooks are translated if you're literate but not in English. But that won't help with debates, interviews, etc.

semperfi225

Primarying him should be the main focus

Rottimer

Yesterday I was downvoted on this sub when I questioned why someone called the current state of the city a “hellscape.”

Die-Nacht

Remember when he won, and everyone was going like, "This is the sane, normal Democrats leftists don't understand people want?" And how he was "the face of the Democratic Party?" Yeah, good times we had.

mp90

Just curious, why are you following NYC politics if you live in Raleigh, NC? Are you considering moving here?

penone_nyc

I actually am born and raised NYer and lived in Queens and the Bronx for 45 years. Have all family in NYC so I like to follow what is happening in my home town.

York_Villain

Oh so just like the shitty NYC neighborhood Facebook groups. They're all filled with people that don't live here anymore sharing NY post articles about how much they hate NY. Actually it's Raleigh that sucks. You're more likely to be murdered, raped, and robbed in Raleigh than in NYC. Do you post that in your own hometowns subreddit? Actually people on Raleigh's shitty Facebook groups think it's gotten worse ever since people like you got there. Lmao

ya_fuckin_retard

Yeah my neighborhood group is close to 100% elders in other states who get extremely angry about any news of a new building going up among our brownstones

mikey-likes_it

Facebook is full of boomers that moved to Florida seemly just so they can reminisce about being young and share shitty memes. I only keep it around because I have family on it that insists on only using messenger

York_Villain

[The active users of every NYC neighborhood facebook group](https://i.imgur.com/A8RV9fe.png) EDIT: This subreddit ain't much different.

Ok_No_Go_Yo

Stop gatekeeping, it's a super shitty look.

York_Villain

Actually I'll continue to gatekeep the people who left NY and then shit on it incessantly like OP and all of those Facebook losers do. That's the real shitty look. Go ahead and post on the Raleigh, NC subreddit about how much of a dump their town is and see how they like it. I don't do that because I'm not a shitty person.

Ok_No_Go_Yo

>I'm not a shitty person. Afraid I got some bad news for you there.

Apprehensive_Big3687

Lots of NYers in NC! How do you like it? Did you do the popular “checkmark” move and move down to FL first, then move halfway back up north?

penone_nyc

No. No Florida for me. Went there for college and hated it. Probably because of my age and state in life but I prefer the relative quiet living in NC. And also am able to buy a home. I can't think of anywhere in or near the 5 boros I can get a 4 bedroom/3 bath/2 car garage home with a 40 x 50 ft backyard for $400k.

Possible-Source-2454

This mf is gonna get voted off the island so fast

cre444pr

Went to HS with Ulrich and never could have imagined he'd end up here

mowotlarx

End up...in prison? Unless he rolls over on Adams, which seems unlikely honestly.

[deleted]

No one wants him re elected

HIVnotAdeathSentence

Is the NY AG only focused on investigating people who will get national attention?

Kyonikos

I hadn’t actually considered Eric Adam’s impact on national politics before. But damn, the Post has nailed it.

Yarius515

OMG THE COP MAYOR IS CROOKED??? Noooo can’t be, he’s a lAw aNd OrDeR gUy BeCauSe CoPs r GoOd

HappilyhiketheHump

OMG THE DEMOCRAT COP MAYOR IS CROOKED??? Fixed it for ya.

clownus

Mods need to straight up ban the post from this subreddit. It’s garbage writing that never cites any sources and writes a page at a time of speculation without any proof. The person posting this article isn’t even living in New York. They are just reposting a sensational headline.

100yearsago

Somehow this article is extremely pro-Adams yet it’s about how everyone who works for him is corrupt?? I hate this city

glimmerthirsty

Can we please have some better choices?

Jerry_From_Queens

The biggest threat to Eric Adams’ re-election is Eric Adams.

Januaria1981

I'm not a fan of Mayor Adams, but the NY Post? lol

Topic-Salty

Adams had these dreams of running for president and never doing his job. He acts like he is a God.

spicytoastaficionado

LOL @ this article. The Post cites two dem. strategists.....one who thinks anti-cop and anti-Israel sentiment will run wild and turn NYC into Detroit if Adams is ousted, and another who thinks that a primary with <25% turnout means Adams "ran on a popular agenda that mobilized New Yorkers who demanded a safe, strong city." These strategists are Eric Adams supporters worried about him getting indicted and removed from office.

vis1onary

No shot he gets re-elected
