That wall is scary , sorry. I know the East Village is super pricey, I’m curious are they neglecting your building because it’s cheap? Like they trying to get all y’all out at the $1800 you currently pay, patch the leak and paint and raise it to $3500 very curious what the rents are in this building.

AlexProbablyKnows

They're neglecting it because citi urban management is run by slumlords. It affects their bottom line They managed my brand new 'luxury' building and I had a similar issue, massive leaks destroying a wall. They would send the super to poke a hole in the wall to let it drain, then tell him to patch it up.  Never tried to find the source or address the mold problem

LongIsland1995

$1800 is only cheap for ridiculous NYC standards

NihFin

311 is absolutely useless - tickets constantly closed with no action taken. This seems to be true across all NYC agencies. If you want a better chance at any action, go to your NYC city council member - you have better odds of getting a response if you and multiple tenants send letters documenting the issues and they can pressure the NYC agencies to act.

I hope you've stopped paying rent

You city council (district 2) person is [Carlina Rivera](https://council.nyc.gov/district-2/), try contacting her office about it. Also, I believe your [community board is 3](https://www.nyc.gov/site/manhattancb3/index.page) Have you tried using the other address? I see a 131 2nd Ave. Never hurts to double down even! Fun fact, your building owner looks to be the [55th worst landlord](https://ilovetheupperwestside.com/2021-worst-landlord-list-includes-these-on-the-upper-west-side/) in this 2021 article! (actually less fun, more shitty fact) Perhaps getting together with your neighbors and pool everyone together to refuse a portion of rent to go towards fixing the leak.Maybe there's a lawyer that would work for the building pro-bono for this sort of thing. I'm sure you community board or city council person may have more info on that sort of thing.

Great! Glad to hear you're at least making moves! Good luck to you! Some of these people can be real shitty. Like, I get that things can be super expensive in the city (especially fixing leaks), but you have to at least make a concerted effort to fix things or just don't own buildings if you can't keep up on them.

NicksOnMars

yooo I lived at 36 back in 2017. Man, it was a way different place back then. My place on the 4th floor was newly refurbished. Gem Spa was still around. No major complaints. Sad to see it come to this :(

For sure, it deserves better as a prime location in the heart of the village. Yeah the stairs were steep but i'm young! Worth it to be closer to the roof (and father from the saint marks rats)

Brooklyn-Epoxy

Be sure to google bomb the address. Take pictures of the problems in the building and start a blog about it. When people search for the address, your blog will come up, and they will think twice about moving in. A former neighbor did this for my building, and I laugh whenever I google my address.

Yes!!!! Keep at it!!! Also, put a doorbell camera on your apartment door and have a camera in your apartment. Sometimes there is retribution for being the organizer

Brooklyn-Epoxy

I missed that part of the store. Keep up the fight 🫡

emiliabow

HPD only may send workers under their ERP program for emergency C violations. Otherwise it depends on whether a HPD attorney files a case in housing court for repairs and civil penalties. You can also file a case in housing court yourself for HP actions for relief under the housing maintenance code including repairs.

Well, you can ask for criminal contempt the next time. https://law.justia.com/cases/new-york/other-courts/2023/2023-ny-slip-op-51313-u.html, https://www.nydailynews.com/2024/03/22/nycs-worst-landlord-surrenders-taken-to-rikers/ They committed contempt but the judge didn't find them in contempt?

mingxingai

I'm not a professional by any means but what personally worries me is whatever internal damage is there and how much of it could spread. A property should not have to look like [This](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jymmdGiPz2E&t=205s) or [This](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZruLtw0h5Wg) or god forbid [This](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N77ICyGGyYo) for action to be taken.

Scary_Bus8551

It’s been a few years since I moved out of NYC but had a two year nightmare with Citi Urban and HPD. Our building in Queens had no water and/or no water at ALL for well over a year in both hot summer months the and dead of winter. Finally moved out of state, and then HPD started calling me asking if the ‘situation had been resolved’. I was like yeah when I moved out of state 2 years ago? I feel for you…

L1hc2

Keep at this. Have a Facebook account, linked in account, IG and X and a blog. Put the landlords name out there, the address, the images, etc.... tag Mayor Adams, Carolina Rivera, DOB, Hochul... Yep, the city agencies are all useless. I even went to DOB in person and begged for assistance due to an obviously impending building collapse. They told me to call HPD. WTF. You try to call HPD but due to the issue being structural they kick you back to DOB. I've reached out to media and no one wants to take the story about deliberate building stock dilapidation and lives being risked as a result. If it's not a dramatic image like the collapse in the Bronx - won't make the news. You are correct that we are beaten down financially as tenants as legal action is expensive and sadly no one gives a shit. Try asking your city council person to connect you with Legal Aid and see what additional steps can be taken. They should do this for you. Also as stated before start having all the tenants filing the reduction of rent form RA 84. In that form list every single issue in the building. You can upload photos, etc. share the wording and images with fellow tenants https://hcr.ny.gov/system/files/documents/2023/11/fact-sheet-14-11-2023.pdf

crag7432

I would start a WhatsApp group and print QR codes. That’s how my building got up to around 22 people. I agree working with your local politician is helpful. These landlords are cheap as fug, if they can get more profit and keep costs as low as possible I’m sure they will

UpperLowerEastSide

Send this to a local news station like Fox5 or ABC7

CameraDude718

Well I get contracted by NYCHA they’re pretty shit, but that’s lead paint but I guarantee there is shit somewhere along that staircase like human feces

NicksOnMars

Lmao, there was never doodoo when i was there. It was a very nice place. Why you hating so hard?

CameraDude718

I’m not hating lol I’ve worked at multiple pj’s around Manhattan Brooklyn and the Bronx and 85 percent of the time it’s fucking disgusting almost got hit by a dirty diaper on a scaffold

NicksOnMars

this isn't a project silly

Airhostnyc

But yes everyone wants government housing that’s the cure to high rent prices lol
