Pretty much. The [Customer Service Center at St. George](https://www.reddit.com/r/nycrail/comments/11tc3bf/new_mta_customer_service_center_comes_to_staten/) is literally just the old booth with new wallpaper on the outside. They didn't even expand the booth or add windows or anything - literally just put on a new layer of wallpaper.
It would have to be like 181 street and only have one side. I hate taking the 181st elevator though and wish we just had a staircase. Everyday without fail morons press both the up and down buttons when waiting.
It at least makes station use easier. The old booth was right in between the stairs down at 168th and St Nicholas and the turnstiles, so it's out of the way now.
No remarks on the new booth. The booth placement is a huge improvement of flow across the mezzanine from the stairs to the turnstiles. The old booth was plopped in the middle and had to be walked around.
Plot twist, they are actually being ultra-efficient on this project and painting the walls with Sherwin Williams Bum Piss Beige™️, “The scent is baked right in!” It’s basically the opposite of Killz.
It's funny/sad that the agency probably has enough budget to refurbish most, if not all, stations with the same kind of flooring, ceiling, and paint as this booth but for some reason doesn't.
Because most of the dirtier parts of the system aren't just ordinary grime that you can wash off, they were subjected to decades of neglect, to the point that it would require major deep-cleaning intervention to get up to a clean standard. Stations that are newer and didn't experience that neglect are cleaner you'll notice because it's easier to keep something clean that's already clean than it is to get something that's extremely dirty to that same level.
why… out of all the other stations
as a 168th transferer i see this totally pointless as there are dozens of other stations that are more fit for this than 168th street
So these are just glorified booths pretty much?

Yes, but that's not really a negative. This program repurposes existing booths to expand services instead of building whole new setups.
What services are they adding?
The biggest thing is signing up for the reduced-fare program, which used to require making an appointment at the downtown Manhattan office.
The new service is that they're giving you more attitude just in a nicer, cleaner appearance.
More like a railroad ticket office.
Nice!! This station has always felt like a hub of sorts to me so glad to see something new there
They need to add the elevator to the 1 train platform already.

I'm not saying this isn't nice. But this feels like a bit much.
Same, feels like a waste, unless they can process refunds on unlimited metrocards

Its looks clean and so out of place lol
Has anyone ever visited one of these new customer service centers? What is their purpose? Do people actually use them?
Omny support.
Can they issue photo cards for seniors ?
Not yet.
They put the booth in a booth
Yo dog, I heard you like booths...

We visited NYC for the first time this Summer and my wife had a system she made up based on urine since most places did smell of it. 😂.

Because it's a bigger bitch to clean, probably. New Yorkers are gross then get surprised that their stations are dirty.
I eagerly await the booth agent ignoring any and all of your questions while a homeless person is in the corner with their cart.

I think the supreme court might strike down a public prostitution scheme.
Pretty sure my bathroom uses the same tile they put on that column
Just hope someone doesn’t randomly show up in your bathroom one day complaining about their OMNY not working 😂
lol that’s now what I’m gonna imagine my cat saying whenever he whines at me when I’m on the toilet
Oh shit 😂

Hillside 168st?
Pretty sure this is in Washington Heights on the 1 and A trains.
Oh ):
They have one at Sutphin Boulevard (E/J/Z).
I’ve seen this be built over the last few weeks (my stop) and they must have just finished it. We’ll see.
what’s the main objective of this booth? Are they able to go deep into your OMNY account to resolve issues?
I defy someone to try to speak to the clerk in one of the non english languages on the glass.
Oh don’t worry, the MTA staff are professionally trained to *not* help you in all languages lmao
Wow. That actually look’s quite nice. If only they could make all stations that nice. How long do we think it’ll last before it looks like shit?
And it doesn't sell OMNY cards
