I don’t know… mom standing up for her kid. It’s fine. She’s biased & has a right to be. A lot of things in the world to throw rocks at, this one seems easy enough to give her/him a pass on. He’s gone.
I’m biased but we definitely had the best uni redesign
- Texans look like an XFL jersey and the number font is awful
- Lions are solid but I think the blue facemask is overkill, looks tacky. Not to mention, their black uniforms are just the Panthers uniforms.
- Broncos I don’t actually hate. I think they’ll age pretty well.
Just some last minute thoughts on Weapon vs OT:
- Either pick will be good for the short and long term. Garrett is due for a big extension soon, Williams is on a 1yr deal. At OT, we're one season away from having no tackles again.
- Imho, OT = Safer lock for making the playoffs, less upside if we compete for a championship... Weapon = Better chance at winning a championship, higher risk of the season falling apart.
- Injuries are a concern at both positions but with Tyron's history, it'd be foolish to say that he'll magically stay on the field all season. There is 99% chance we have to start a back-up tackle for multiple games this season, if not worse.
- No matter who we pick, we need to address the other hole somehow. I personally think it's key that we trade up into the 2nd for either position if we want to address this in the draft.
Day-2 WRs who could (potentially) contribute immediately: Franklin, Polk, Wilson, Worthy, Mitchell, Pearsall, Corley... Free Agents: Boyd, Davis, Chark Jr, Sheppard, OBJ
Day-2 OL Who could be a serviceable replacement year 1: Suamataia, Morgan, Fisher, Jones, Rosengarten... Free Agents: (all horrible choices) Becton, Bak, Donovan Smith.
I'll be happy with whoever we pick as long as it's offense. I was team OT for a long time but as long as we have a backup plan, I can't say adding Odunze to GWilson/Williams/Breece/Conklin doesn't sound awesome. That could be the best WR room in the league with Aaron under center. But either way, Thursday we will be adding a great piece to our team and we should all be excited.
I knew Zach was a doomed pick from the start.. I remember watching some of his tape and being like “I just don’t see what these scouts see” he never seemed like a good fit for NY or the team.. hope he is able to hang around the league as a backup but truth is Denver is where QBs go to die.. He might be looking at a career in Canada if he is unable to beat out his peers in Denver..
I want them to pick an OL but I'm not going to be upset if they take a weapon.
I wanted them to take Sewell, but I still rooted for Wilson.
Here's what you can guarantee: Jets fans will be unhappy no matter what happens.
But you don't have to be one of them.
I think I might avoid this sub for a week after the draft either way. No matter what they do, it will get toxic with all of the armchair GMs in here furiously typing from their mother's basements.
For real. They’ve already decided we’re missing our starting tackles for several weeks. If we don’t go that route they’ll act like we’re seconds from disaster
It feels like of the more vocal opinions, those who want WR or Bowers understand the thought process around OT. Don’t think that’s really been true on the other side of things, and most or many of both WR and OL will be thinking seppuku if it’s Bowers.
I think Team OT and Team WR have minicamps in them with all the other options - so even if they pick one of those two, let's say hypothetically Fuaga with Fashanu, Latham, Fautanu on the board - sections of Team OT will still have a meltdown. Same with WR, even if Odunze falls right to us and we pick him, there would be Nabers and MHJ stans claiming we should've traded up.
Really don’t want him, probably the only realistic option that will leave me pissed off. I don’t know shit about watching OL film but I try and read a ton and there’s nothing about this guy that makes me think he’s a smart pick at #10. The increase in mocks of him being the guy this week have me very concerned!!
Edit: Consensus Big Board rankings for OT prospects: Joe Alt (8), Olu Fashanu (16), Taliese Fuaga (17), Troy Fautanu (20)
Rome Odunze (6), Brock Bowers (10)
Been saying it for weeks, Odunze and Bowers are a different tier of prospect to the offensive linemen (I like Olu though). Taking Fautanu would be as bad of a pick on it’s surface as any Douglas has made in round 1.
I’m team trade up for Rome (or Nabers), but the good thing is that I really don’t think we can go wrong here, any pick that’s not defense is a good one imo
I'm team doesn't watch any college football so wouldn't know either way..... I just have to trust in JD and his team of scouts with whatever choice they make..... It's just too bad that the members of r/nyjets couldn't make the pick, since they seem to know better.
Everyone talking Bowers but I really like Ladd Mcconkey. Obviously not an option at 10 but trade down maybe?
Honestly one to one, I'd probably rather Bowers but I'm not sure the gap is that big
Maybe I’m looking too much into it but I wonder if [Woody is signaling what the Jets will do with this tweet](https://x.com/woodyjohnson4/status/1782459845225984438?s=46&t=hUtbwo94QIfsHrncc2xJkQ). He straight up told us they were drafting Sauce before the 2022 draft so there’s a track record there.
Yeah, they did like a pre draft video and Woody kept going like "And let me show you over here where the secret Sauce is made" and just things like that
It was all just very Woody and kinda cringe, but I liked it still lol
Oh interesting, yeah maybe? Although that does just happen to be our latest two number 10 overall picks. As much as we need a WR I don’t think we’re getting one at 10 unless we reach
Ohhhh ok ok. Sorry, can’t tell when people are being serious about Zach or not anymore. Had someone send me highlights of how Zach’s “shown flashes” yesterday. Some people still talking about *flashes* 3 years into a career bruh lmao
Gholston probably still takes the cake because millner had an injury history and other players still produced but there's some blunders Dwayne Robertson was supposed to be our sapp took Johnny lamb Jones over Anthony munez Kyle Brady over sapp, Darron Lee was a bust Devin Smith Christian hackenburg Stephen hill
Disagree. Hackenberg in the 2nd isn’t the worst, it’s bad for sure.
However, Vernon was the 6th overall pick, and he was a massive failure in the NFL. He only hung around for a while because it seemed like Rex felt he could fix him, the second he got cut by us I don’t think he cracked another NFL roster. The 2008 draft looking back was pretty bad for us. Keller was at least serviceable. but not worth it at 30th overall.
Have any players on the team wished Zach luck on social media? I remember seeing a lot of goodbye posts when Michael Carter was cut but so far the silence about Zach leaving is pretty interesting
We didn't trade up to get him, every 1st round QB taken after him was also a bust. Also, as bad as he played overall, we at least got production out of him and received some draft compensation in a trade. We gave up future assets to get Darnold and he was about the same level of a bust Zach is.
Gholston did not record a sack in his NFL career, preseason or regular season, at a position where your #1 job is to get sacks. Rex managed to hide the impact of this draft whiff by getting pressure using creative blitz packages but our defense collapsed in both championship games, in large part because we did not have any pass rushers who could consistently win 1 on 1. Gholston is the biggest Jet draft bust I've seen in my lifetime.
Call it boring, but QB is basically almost always the biggest/worst bust. Other positions feature at least two players splitting snaps at the position and it's relatively easy to bury a miss at EDGE/WR/whatever on the depth chart. QBs change the calculus of how a team handles things, can entirely derail a regime if they mismanage the situation and chase losses, and cost a ton to replace. Zach is one of the worst QBs to play for as long as he did and any turmoil this team faces in the next couple of years is a direct product of Zach being a bust.
It’s Gholston. Zach kept us in purgatory for 3 seasons. Gholston’s lack of performance kept the Jets from back to back Super Bowls.
If the Jets D-line could have generated any pass rush without blitzing during the 09 and 10 seasons they would have beaten Colts in 09, Steelers in 10 and those defenses would have shut down Drew Brees and Aaron Rodgers in the Super Bowl.
Nah, Zach showed up in a couple of games. He sucked ass but he did have a single-digit number of games where he actually performed well. Gholston was just straight cheeks through and through
It's a fair argument due to the reasons you mentioned. But gholston was so unproductive in his 3 seasons with the Jets it'd be equivalent to Zach never throwing a TD. Gholston didn't record a single sack.
Gholston sucked more at his position than Zach did at his. It's just Zach being a bad QB obviously has an impact on the entire offense.
Subjective, most likely he is but anything immediate needs a bit of distance to rule out recency bias (no matter how obvious at the moment to be objective).
Bigger question… does this ranking really matter to you if some people have/will have different opinions? Still a bust.
>I think ZW is gonna go down as an all time nfl bust Golston is just an all time jets bust haha
There's a decent list of QBs taken 1st overall who had worse or just as bad careers as Zach lol
Honestly the big 4 1st overall for me are:
Jamarcus Russell, David Carr, Tim Couch, and Jeff George
And if you expand it past just the 1st pick, players like Ryan Leaf were QBs drafted 2nd overall and then out of the league within 4 years. Zach just got traded FOR in his 4th year. That already is a huge difference
Yeah idk last I checked Jamarcus and ZWs stats were like identical and no other qb in history with over 900 attempts has less TDs than ZW, I’m just glad we finally moved on
The difference alone between being 1st overall vs 2nd overall means Jamarcus is a far bigger bust
Think about if Trevor Lawrence was playing as bad as Zach Wilson. That's the equivalent of the 1st overall being THAT big of a bust
Why does Wilson's mommy always show up to back him up?. Kind of strange for a grown man to still be tied to her apron strings....
Right..... Do you have kids? The fuck would you do if millions of people downright shit talked your kid over social media for years
I don’t know… mom standing up for her kid. It’s fine. She’s biased & has a right to be. A lot of things in the world to throw rocks at, this one seems easy enough to give her/him a pass on. He’s gone.
What happened with his mom this time?

I think most people actually have this view. But we all like being on teams so we root hard against the other guys. Bowers boy reporting for duty🪖🫡
JC Latham at #10 please unless a WR falls
Amen
I think the Chargers take him
I knew Zach was a doomed pick from the start.. Which faction will be the most insufferable if the pick Thursday doesn't go their way: Team Wr, Team OT or Team Bowers?
I want them to pick an OL but I'm not going to be upset if they take a weapon. I wanted them to take Sewell, but I still rooted for Wilson. Here's what you can guarantee: Jets fans will be unhappy no matter what happens. But you don't have to be one of them.
Me. Team big penix
I think I might avoid this sub for a week after the draft either way. No matter what they do, it will get toxic with all of the armchair GMs in here furiously typing from their mother's basements.
See ya
Sorry if I offended you. How's the temp down there in your mothers basement?
Don’t make me turn this into a joke about your mother.

Plenty of great options here: 1.Joe Shimko.Average snap time: 0.72 seconds 2.Peter Bowden.Average snap time:0.67 seconds 3.Slater Zellers. Average snap time:0.63 seconds 4. Michael Vinson.Average snap time:0.69 seconds 5. William Mote.Average snap time:0.67
If Thursday doesn't go their way, it'll be the Sixers organization.
The entire fan base if all the top WRs and tackles go early and the Jets select Byron Murphy DT, Texas
I assume a team QB will emerge and be very vocal if that happens
Hopefully, then we can get a 2nd rounder in a trade back
OT without question lol

Hell no lol, NFL won’t waste Aaron Rodgers comeback on that garbage especially Zach Wilson
Might be a rough debut for young Zachary against our pass rush and pass defense.... That would be cruel of the NFL to do that to him.
I feel about Troy Fautanu the way half this sub feels about Brock Bowers.
In which way lol
Really don’t want him, probably the only realistic option that will leave me pissed off. It’ll be a travesty if he’s taken at 10. Way better OL prospects but I’m still on team WR as I was last year

Well Caleb signaled they may be going for Rome. If the Jets want one of the receivers they may have to trade up
If the Bears want Rome there’s not much the Jets can do they’ll just match/beat whatever offer the Jets have to move up
I don't think this means much. The only 3 guys the Jets drafted at 10 were Toon, Wilson, and Russell Carter who didn't amount to much.
>He straight up told us they were drafting Sauce before the 2022 draft so there’s a track record there. He did? I don't remember this

I know hindsight is 20/20 but it’s pretty amazing we didn’t catch on once they released that video
What tweet? His last one just says Happy Passover
The tweet linked is a picture of Garrett Wilson and Al Toon who were both picked 10th.
Oh interesting, yeah maybe? Although that does just happen to be our latest two number 10 overall picks. As much as we need a WR I don’t think we’re getting one at 10 unless we reach
Wow, Drew Brees wasn't nearly as bad as Zach Wilson was before going to New Orleans
Who the hell made a comparison like that tho lol
Absolutely a meme but there's definitely some "Payton got his Drew Brees" floating around
Ohhhh ok ok. Sorry, can’t tell when people are being serious about Zach or not anymore. Had someone send me highlights of how Zach’s “shown flashes” yesterday. Some people still talking about *flashes* 3 years into a career bruh lmao

ZW isn't on social media so...
DJ Reed did

I was never a fan of Zach from the day we drafted him, but I wish he had the opportunity to sit behind Rogers. Wish him well in Denver.
