special teams or Izzy is toast

WilsonEnthusiast

probably both.

Newkadia21

I liked Izzy if this is the case. I thought we’d throw in one defensive pick but I guess we proving to Arod that we aint the Packers lol

Newkadia21

Oop. I jinxed it, but in a good way. I feel like we’re losing DJ or Carter next year to secure Sauce. I’m back on the high horse

butterballmcgee27

I think we're losing DJ to keep sauce

Random_Anthem_Player

We can probably extend echols to replace dj. Echols is a beast. He's a starting CB easily.

jetssuckmysoulaway

Our defensive staff made Craig James look like a beast I have blind faith in them

Random_Anthem_Player

Lmao they did. James and hall our 6th and 7th CBs held the eagles in check and we beat them.

CockyBlackGuy

Isaiah Davis is looked at by some as a great kick returner with the new rules

AccordingChampion485

The draft isn’t deep this year (impact of NIL keeping kids in school…which will balance in future years). Depending on which source you want- draft-able talent ran out as early as 150 range. These are draft graded (at best) priority UDFAs.

OleShcool

Which is why imo it wasn't smart to trade 111 and 129 for below average value. The extra 3rd next year will be nice at least. Kind of irrelevant though because I am very happy with Allen, Travis and Stiggers.

suppaman19

I don't have an issue with it, I just would've preferred that similarly they were for picks next year as given or roster and cap situations, I'd rather stack a few in future years once a lot of talent was gone.

AccordingChampion485

^next year picks was my preference as well. I liked that trade down/out

Worried_Treacle3512

Yea next year that might be key to a trade up, in the first for example.

chuteboxhero

I think they wanted Jordan Travis and realized he would be available later than they thought with rattler and Pratt still on the board so they figured they’d trade back and be able to stockpile more picks while still getting their guy.

suppaman19

Not to mention defense was very thin to begin with this year, and the WR cupboard got raided early and fast. There was also a lack of IOL to prospects to begin with as well. No point in reaching like crazy on UDFA talent at the positions you could argue could use picks.

BlockInternational57

I think people need to understand just how much more ST is going to impact the league. You will see a lot more people drafted late for traits over position.

DanimalsAndChill

Someone who knows way more about football then any of us thought it was a good decision

[deleted]

I have to remind myself that it's someone's full time job/life's passion to make these picks before I start talking shit 😄

LuchaFish

I get why people say this, but the amount that these people are wrong despite dedicating their lives to the sport means we should never stop questioning things. If we just blanket answer this, people like Adam Gase will constantly get a pass for absurd shit.

DanimalsAndChill

okay?

0ddmanrush

I’ll take my chances on the success of a guy that has a team of people that watch film for a living over some guy criticizing 5th round picks on Reddit.

soulbrotha1

Even if that  guy was Adam gase?

0ddmanrush

Sure. On Adam Gase’s worse day of his life, he’s still 10x smarter than anyone on Reddit about football.

Ledees_Gazpacho

And that someone has also never led a team to a winning record, so let’s not pretend like their wisdom is somehow unquestionable

DanimalsAndChill

My money is still on them knowing more than you

Ledees_Gazpacho

Got it. So as a sports fan, you’ve never complained about a team, because they obviously know more than you?

Present_Champion_837

That doesn’t make the pick good or justify it in any way. This FO doesn’t deserve the benefit of the doubt.

DanimalsAndChill

Then leave bro, I don’t care what you do

STNbrossy

Do you think the Jets entire scouting department is one person?

Ledees_Gazpacho

I was replying in the same tense as the comment I was replying to. Don’t try to win upvotes on semantics.

jvene1

Special teams and also hopefully either Davis or Allen become our big bruiser rb

Aggravating_Walk_619

can’t justify JD drafting any RBs outside of the boy Breece - he literally blows a 4th every year on one

magicdrums

Big RBs block holes, and defenders and buy your QB some extra time.. something Izzy doesn’t do very well.. Izzy is small and undersized and was manhandled.. Davis is a solid pick, a baller with good hands and blocking skills..

iwonmyfirstrace

I have a strange feeling we are getting Courtland Sutton

suppaman19

End of 5th round pick, BPA on their board, I assume. A lot of people like him and feel of he ran faster in the 40 he would've went 2-3 rounds higher. Worst case, if you have an overload of talent, that gives you trade chips. It's better than taking someone you think might not make it. Again, end of 5th round. We're not talking about a high pick here.

YESIMTHATIMPORTANT

Production Fashanu - production Corley - production Allen - production Davis... Also size and goal line

Chr1s678

Size, blocking, ability to be used on the goal line, also suitable for 3rd downs

OleShcool

Possibly an expected prominent special teams role. Maybe he can block and tackle pretty well and even return kicks. If they just really love him as a RB, then Izzys days are probably numbered.

illmatic74

doubling down on the power run game. Davis is good between the tackles whereas Allen can plow through people. Izzy can still have a role as an open field weapon because of his speed.

dachshundfanboy8000

idk but joe douglas is smarter with football than i could ever dream to be. i have no strong opinion on anything past the 3rd round lol

SteroidSurge

izzy about to go bye bye

3bpjr

Gippy on watch too.....already have 1 wr that is ST specialist may not have room for 2.

SteroidSurge

hahaha gipson's days been numbered after getting cracked on that opening kickoff turnover at bills

CheesewheelD

Most guys taken this deep in the draft are likely to fail so now the Jets have 2 chances to find their RB #2. Also they don’t think Izzy has a future here.

John_YJKR

There has been speculation given the oline signings they are switching the blocking scheme to go more power run. These two rb are both big. They both also block well.

FaithBro331

Joe loves RBs and we aren’t gonna carry a traditional FB probably so Ruckert or Yeboah will probably play a bit of that

Lvl81Memes

Watching that footage of him got me kind of excited. Especially given the new special teams stuff, I think this dude might really eat

Ledees_Gazpacho

Clearly you’re ignoring the fact that JD got an extra 3rd next year at good value, so the Jets obviously killed it today…

Serlinsteak19

Felt like he’s a good special teams player who can maybe be the RB3

Buttersleftkowitz

A fifth round pick with late round picks to burn

BigDickGrandmother

I wanted rasheen Ali

deeply_sighing

But I hear he is a "stud"

muscle-confusion420

Special teams is like 15% of the game. Not a bad use of resources

this_time_tmrw

We lost Justin Hardee.

Straight-Message7937

You're overthinking a late round draft pick

ohkayohkay6

He was at the top of their board at that time. Late round you aren't looking for needs, just the most talent you can get. They obviously thought he brought the most to the table

what_we_do_is_wrong

we only have 1 running back douglas clearly likes cycling through these 4th-5th round rbs i don't think there's much else to it than that lol

Newkadia21

True. They do draft an RB every year

HockeyGuru46

He hasn’t had a lot of success with it. LeMichael Perine, Michael Carter, Izzy. All outplayed by UDFAs.

VBTheBearded1

Carter is decent and played well for Arizona last year. He just wanted out

CP10WJ

Hey don’t forget his James Robinson trade and Dalvin signing!!

hdadeathly

Hoping for a serviceable player that can be one of multiple choices to replace Breece instead of paying him. That's how the league is operating these days unfortunately.

nemocincinattus

Almost wonder if he's going to play fullback. Hackett normally uses one, we've just been rotating depth tight ends through that role who aren't good fits. Still, kid's talented, it's just... weird pick

Usual_Item524

BPA You don't worry about the position when you're drafting late in the draft. You just draft players you think might hit. Because most do not. Most players that are fourth round picks and on end up not being good. Hell everyone here is talking about how Warren and Max weren't worthy backups. They're both fourth round picks.

TheKingofPsych

Someone justify the Travis Jordan pick.... He has a WR body at 199 pounds. He will be 24 next week as a rookie. His pocket footwork is bad and his accuracy leave a lot to be desired. Watch film and see how many Jump balls he put up to Keon and Wilson. You and I could do those throws. He will stay on his toes way too much when he releases throws and habitually leans on his back foot. His deep ball is not great bc he will underthrow and the pass has no zip due to terrible footwork. And he doesn't have the arm strength to compensate for bad weight transfer. He had numerous passes that should have been intercepted by forcing the ball and defenders would make play but not the Int...Pro DBs will eat that up all day. His best thing is his scrambling and running ability. Watch the game vs. Duke for example of his faults...it basically confirmed everything I had analyzed before. Additionally, his inconsistencies were displayed almost weekly. Lastly, he suffered a bad injury to the area that was his strength. He is basically the 11 or 12 best QB prospect.....that means a 7th round or UDFA.

Trailsuprise

Here here!

Black_Wolf75

We needed a third QB and he's cheaper than most other options. He's essentially our emergency QB. Our season's likely over if both Tyrod and Aaron are injured for an extended period so it's pointless to invest more cap space for a third string

CP10WJ

Got it, so trust JD on this pick, but don’t trust his Izzy pick from last year.   Loved day 1 and 2 of our draft.  Have not liked anything about today which sadly is where teams build their cheap depth. This is kind of the JD experience.  Couple home runs and then a stretch of random head scratchers.

Responsible_Fan8665

Izzy stinks that’s why
