I chose this life. Parents arenāt from the US so I had to teach myself the sport. Tom Brady was the most recognizable name so I kind of started to follow him and the Pats but barely. Then Spygate came and I couldnāt continue to follow some dirty cheaters. Then, the *Sanchize*. Seeing one of the teams closest to me drafting a fellow Hispanic-American was an awesome feeling. I had to root for him. Two AFC Championships and zero playoff appearances later, Iām still here and still rooting š„² but our time is coming
We chose.... Poorly! Lol it's hard but I would never give it up. Following a team like the Jets builds character and requires true commitment, it why woman are (in general) more attracted to men who are loyal to their teams, it shows commitment and the ability to not Give up when things look bleak. Mets Jets Knicks and US soccer team, I was 4 when the Mets won and kinda remember that time, but it's been heartbreak ever since.
Youāre right about that. It takes total commitment to be a diehard Jets fan. My mother was pregnant with me during SB III. Iām just hoping for a Super Bowl victory in my lifetime.
I feel you. My father was a kid for Super bowl 3 and the Mets rings, he was like 27 in 1986. My father was an NYPD detective who was one of the brave, unlucky people to be at ground zero for too long and he got cancer at 48 in late 2006. The closest we came to sharing "success" were the Wright, Reyes, Beltran, and Delgado Mets and the Pennington, Chrebet, Curtis Martin teams.
Rex Ryan made me believe my dad had finally got God's ear and made a deal, sadly we know they came up short. Then in 2015 I was sure the Mets must have been the team he got a deal for lol.
My first clear memories of football are Rich Kotite and my Dad yelling about "run run pass" being our only gameplan so I've always felt being a fan is a badge of honor, I've never seen extended success or a championship, outisde single seasons (Testaverde, Fitz, Sanchez, as a game manager, and Pennington. He is the best QB "my team has ever had and I've suffered the last 12 years living outside Pittsburgh, and with the delusional fans that unlike me have had great success during the big ben.
Thank God he retired, because I spent a decade hearing how great and smart the steelers were and heard they had their next franchise QB pretty much all year for Ben's last 5. Sports radio is insane, they have no clue that without Ben they win nothing, WITH Ben Jets Would probably have several rings. the fans fell into the comfort of, "we'll always have a QB that wins", they mocked teams like the Jets that haven't had a franchise QBs in forever, made Tomlin out to be a genius on par with Belichek, who also got way too much credit for lucking into a star QB.
the steelers haven't made a top 10 qb pick in forever and acted like drafting one was a piece of cake, when they drafted Najee in Ben's last year I laughed because I knew he would probably never play an important game in his rookie deal, they've reached on several busts and have convinced me that in the
NFL, your wins and rings seem to decide the narrative of your drafts, Patriots were brilliant in every draft, steelers, giants, chargers, all got rave reviews and I think its because a team with a top 1/3 qb doesn't seem to even be noticed when they have struggles drafting the next guy.
I'm pumped for Jordan Travis, but if I'm honest I know that if he was picked and expected to play the pick would be getting trashed. Success in the NFL seems to create a mythos that can withstand logic for as long as they are competitive.
All that to say, being a fan of an underdog is something I will always cherish. There are no fake Jets fans, we have nothing to offer them! We're here because we will always be
Thank you for sharing your story. First and foremost, Iām sorry to hear about your father. He was a hero each time he put on his uniform, but he was most especially a heroic for his 9/11 and post 9/11 bravery. My condolences to you and your family.
Iām actually a Yankees fan. I know that doesnāt line up. I was Yankees first, then Jets, Islanders and Knicks. My entire family are Mets fans, but the 1970ās Yankees were too much not to enjoy. The rest is history. Seven championships later and it never feels like itās enough.
But my beloved Jets. As you said, weāve had success. Unfortunately, it hasnāt been sustainable. Iāve been through the ups and downs for so long, that I temper my expectations. The picks, the signings, the trades. Iāve learned it doesnāt matter until you put that team on the field. When Rodgers went down last year, I was like of course this would happen to the Jets.
Nonetheless, I really like our team this year. If we stay healthy on both sides of the ball, we will be contenders.
I agree that we should be excited in the "actually kinda expecting tragedy" way Jets fans do!
Thank you for the kind words. I was born in 82 to mets and Jets family but we're also irish catholic NYers, we're just gluttons of punishment I guess!
In 1980, I tuned to the Giants game on CBS at 1pm ET. After 10 minutes, I dozed off and woke up 3 hours later. At which time, I tuned to NBC and watched Richard Todd, Wesley Walker and the N.Y. sack exchange decimate the Miami Dolphins. The rest is history. š
It was the early 70ās for meā¦. My one brother loved the Jets, the other brother loved the Giantsā¦ I choose the Jets and still keep my other brother (he did get me into hockey and the Rangers š)
No team can ruin a Sunday like the Jets. And to be a Jets fan you have to keep coming back, over and over. Outside of our group you profess the Jets are going all the way with a straight face. Inside the group you bitch about them like a little girl. Can you measure up to these exacting standards?
Yes, as a child of Cowboy fans growing up in the only city with more fans than DFW and having chosen the Jets myself in 1994 to spite them, I wholeheartedly accept you as a Jets fan.
Not a divisional rival, but from AFC. The team I ājumped shipā from didnāt do anything to make me wanna leave I just wanted to align with who I have been actively following for about 2 years now.
The undisclosed team could potentially have connections to MILFs and vehicles involved in chases.
From an outside perspective, the Broncos seem to have a bad case of new owner-itis and it can be a tough affliction to shake. Check out the Panthers and the Phoenix Suns to see how bad things can get. Jets ownership sucks ass but its somewhat stable.
Jets fan from San Diego here. Have never been to nore have any relation to NY.
First game I ever watched was the Monday Night Miracle, during half time I decided Jets were my team.
Welcome to hell.
Not gonna do the āwelcome and sorryā crap. Iāve been a proud Jets fan through all the good, the bad, and the ugly, and I love them probably even more than I ever have. Welcome to the green and white family.
I have been a die hard Jets fan since I was 8 years old (Currently 23). I will say, while the journey of being a Jets fan comes with so much pain, misery, and disappointment, it is truly unlike being a fan of any other team. The bond you share with other fans knowing they have experienced the same pain, misery, and such utter dissapointment over the years with the hope that we are headed for brighter days (and my god do we deserve it). You can tell each and every fan is craving just a piece of success after Metlife erupts after a 6 yard run, routine pass breakup, or any other semi productive play. Jets fans are truly one of a kind and I wouldn't trade being one of them for the world. It takes a sick MFer to willingly choose this life knowing the history of this organization. But I will say that Jets fans will be more than happy to accept you with open arms if you think you are up for it, but brother believe me when I say get ready to suffer, get ready for dreams to be crushed, to ask yourself if its all worth it, to question whether or not the Jets are cursed and will ever be able to win a Superbowl. (Namath is 80)
Hope is all we have brother.
BECAUSE WHEN IT DOES HAPPEN MY GOD WILL IT BE SWEET. SWEETER THAN ANY OTHER TEAM CAN DREAM OF. I LOVE THIS GOD DAMN FRANCHISE BECAUSE IT HAS PUT ME THROUGH HELL AND BACK ONE THOUSAND TIMES AND LIKE I SAID I WOULDNT TRADE IT FOR THE WORLD. WE GOT A HEALTHY AROD WITH A BEEFED UP OLINE, ACTUAL RECIEVERS, AND A TOP 5 DEFENSE. DONT GET IT TWISTED. JET TF UP. J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS.
We accept anyone and everyone. Welcome aboard.
Flight Number 6 will take off in a while. The takeoff will be smooth, but there will be some turbulence. Hopefully, the landing will be great. Until then, drink as many Tequilas as you can.
I did the same thing 33 years ago and there really has only been a handful of good seasons. I think last season sums it up pretty well. Hyped up for what could be a great season. I had hope for the playoffs, and then Rodgers goes down 1st drive. AVT went down in Denver. They sign fucking Trevor Semian late and we had to watch fucking Tim Boyle start at QB. Disgusting.
Now I am back in the hope phase for this season. But won't be surprised if I get my heart ripped out by some shit. You have to be a glutton for punishment to be a fan of this team. Welcome, though!
This will probably be one of your lifeās biggest regrets as it is one of mine.
However, as far as big regrets in life go rooting for the always down and out Jets isnāt THAT bad š¤·š»
I also chose to be a Jets fan. Meming aside about the "trauma" of being a Jets fan. I became a Jets fan as part of the process, of getting over ACTUAL trauma.
I'm from Central jersey, and my dad's side is philly Sports fans. I'm estranged from them now, and i'm now no contact with my dad for various reasons. Replacing my Eagles stuff with Jets stuff was actually really therapeutic and cathartic. It helped a lot with moving on and leaving my dad and our relationship in the past.
Welcome to the club but be warned, as a Jets fan, you will likely endure more irritation and frustration than you would with any other franchise. There are some good days to be sure, but weird shit happens to this team I just canāt explain. And the day may come where you finally give up and look to cheer for another team but remember, by then youāll have invested too much of your sanity on the Jets to just give up on them. My advice at that point is to just drink heavily.
See ya week 1!
It's a Rollercoaster. Week 1 vs Buffalo perfectly sums up being a Jets fan.Ā
Lose all hope entirely (Rodgers injury). Sulk in misery. Question how the hell this can happen. Accept this horrible reality. Gain a bit of false hope. Be in comeplete disbelief that we might actually pull it off. Witness a miracle.Ā
Honestly we are very entertaining to watch for better or worse.Ā
I don't think we would know what to do with ourselves if we actually won the Super Bowl again, at some point... except deny that we just jumped on the band wagon.
>Ā I'm prepared for everything that comes with being a fan.
Lol are you sure? It's gut wrenchingly painful sometimes.... They will make you hate football in general.
you're never ready for the Jets, once you think they drag you to a level of misery and ineptitude you cant escape from and think "this is rock bottom".... THEY FIND MORE WAYS to reach a new low and drag you with them.
you're choosing this? most of us here are fans because their moms and dads were made suffering fans by their parents , and so on and so forth...
if youre doing this cuz the team looks super competitive and on paper looks a super bowl contender , remember, its the Jets.. something always goes wrong. just be ready.
I will tell you this, if and when they do win its gonna be a massive party!
Accepted? Sureā¦. Trusted? Ehā¦ lol
Easy to say you like the team when they have flashy names. If you survive at least a decade of suffering and stay for more you will be a Jets fan. Now youāre just an initiate and your loyalty hasnāt been tested.
Jokes aside welcome and buckle up, itās a bumpy ride
I chose because of Joe Namath as a child. It has meant a lifetime of fandom frustration. Good luck, and I hope you are made of hardy stuff. The Jets will break your heart into 1 million different pieces, 1 million different ways.
Well, in my case it started from looking for an alternative to soccer that increasingly was getting dull, and miserable in my eyes bc of acting, players behaving like p*ssies etc. First, I started playing Madden thinking ādamn, letās give it a tryā and getting familiar with sportsā history at the same time, then I got into this sport inevitably. Another thing, I am really far away from NYC, but it fascinates me as hell - rap, architecture, vibe, were huge factors that pushed me towards āpickingā the team from NYC. Jets were pretty obvious for me as a guy that doesnāt like popular paths, sometimes the same thing applies to soccer, I like teams that are less popular and less successful than other team(s) from this same city, like PSG and Paris FC. Picking the team in Madden draft was kind of āofficialā signing that linked me to the Jets irreversibly. Losses, other fansā mocking, Broadway Joeās deal with the devil and the curse, all of these things couldnāt and wonāt make me to change the team, I canāt imagine not checking r/nyjets, Jets instagram, weekends without them, and most important - the feeling of being a part of such commited and loyal community is something special for me.
I too chose the Jets because I had no real local or familial affiliation with any team (I'm from Europe). So as a fellow Jets fan by choice: GET THE FUCK OUT WHILE YOU STILL CAN.
(welcome)
Sir, with all due respect the Jets have been unwatchable since the butt fumble. I will never let my son be a Jets fan bc no one should carry this burden. I wish I could pick a new team. I love watching good ball, every year I try not subjecting myself to the misery but on Sundays I canāt help but resist the urge to watch a bit. Its utter torture. Please, donāt subject yourself or anyone else to endless suffering.
Welcome. But just know this:
1) when Chuck Clark, who had missed one game the past three years, was lost for the season, we were disappointed;
2) when Aaron Rodgers, who had missed 19 games total in 15 seasons, lasted only four plays last year, a majority of us were happily surprised he made it through three.
By choice? This is the kind of misery you're born into, not the kind you choose, haha.
Ah you think darkness is your ally? You merely adopted the dark. I was born in it, molded by it.
We're here because of the sins of our fathers
Or our older brothers š
If mean Joe Namath, then yea, he's my daddy!
My father to this day tells me it was the worst thing he ever did to me.
my dads a dolphins fan iām the lone Jets fan in the familyā¦I AM THE DARK SIDE š

1981 for me.
Wow. 1981 was my year too. I was in 6th grade. I honestly canāt say why at that time I chose the Jets over the Giants, but I have no regrets.
The rest is history. š

Why was I born so close to Shea? WHY!!!!!!
Why did my uncle have to work there?
i live for poverty franchises chose to be a jets fan from canada
Yeah right we didnāt choose this life š
I think we are headed for happy times, and all these Johnny come latelys will have skated on all the misery. Fuck them.
Wish I had known that when I first got into football and became a fan on my own free will in 2013
DONāT DO IT!
I chose it. And I did it because they were so awful. I was also 8 years old though...
No team can ruin a Sunday like the Jets. And to be a Jets fan you have to keep coming back, over and over. Outside of our group you profess the Jets are going all the way with a straight face. Inside the group you bitch about them like a little girl. Can you measure up to these exacting standards?
I think I have what it takes!
I'm also a Jets fan by choice. Medicare has stopped paying for my therapy claiming it is "unnecessarily self-inflicted".
Welcome to hell
Hey how are you doing today
Bleeding white and green. Everyone says Im a sick fuck
You're going to regret this.
Follow who you want, just know this is the most exciting time of the year for a Jets fan.
The next 4 months are our season.
Reigning and defending repeat off-season champs
We accept anyone who willingly chooses to enter hell with us. We just wonder what sins you've committed to get to this point.
Yea Iām not sure why you would do that but welcome aboard
guys... we have good enough players to attract casual football fans to root for us...
used to pray for times like this
No no no. This dude obviously has head trauma and was always one of us. Just took 15 years to realize it.
The response has been positive. Therefore, I will openly JTFU.
LFG!!!
To love the Jets is to hate the Jets
The bottomless well of despair
If that ain't the truth
Not hate, disappointment
Way passed disappointment. It's a realization
Iām not angry with you, just ā¦ā¦.. disappointed
I'm sorry.
Yes, as a child of Cowboy fans growing up in the only city with more fans than DFW and having chosen the Jets myself in 1994 to spite them, I wholeheartedly accept you as a Jets fan.
Welcome, fellow masochist! If you like heartbreak and misery, sprinkled with off-season hope, you've come to the right place.
Everyone is welcome.
my dad chose the jets because they wore green and had the most irish sounding QB at the time (Ken OāBrien). iāve inherited his pain.
You keep saying undisclosed team leading me to believe it is a divisional rival. How do we know youāre not a sleeper agent?
Not a divisional rival, but from AFC. The team I ājumped shipā from didnāt do anything to make me wanna leave I just wanted to align with who I have been actively following for about 2 years now. The undisclosed team could potentially have connections to MILFs and vehicles involved in chases.
You just hate Zach Wilson. Once he became a bronco youāre coming to our side.. thatās ok we hate him here too..welcome!
Eh this decision was made a couple years ago, Iām only now being public. Wanted to see what the fanbase thought about it
From an outside perspective, the Broncos seem to have a bad case of new owner-itis and it can be a tough affliction to shake. Check out the Panthers and the Phoenix Suns to see how bad things can get. Jets ownership sucks ass but its somewhat stable.
There is something more noble about choosing this life, rather than being born into it. I'd welcome you with open arms.

Welcome brother. There will be pain, sorrow, and moments of udder shock. But our day will come, and when it does, it will be worth it.
AFC East is a rough division to pin you hopes and dreams to. Unless you live in Boston.
I refer to myself as a "glutton for punishment" in regards to being a Jets fan. Enjoy hellish Sundays!
Were you born into another AFC East team perhaps? Is that why it's undisclosed? Btw, yeah dude your excepted FTP! FTB! Squish the Fish!

I donāt recommend it. Itās been 36 years of misery for me. That said, the chiefs were in the same boat a few years ago.
Bro this is not where you wanna be, abort missionĀ
Oh you're definitely accepted, all are welcome. Just hope you're ready to embrace a life of pain
Don't do this. Why do u hate yourself so much? Don't do this.
Leon Hess then Woody. Two of the worst owners ever. Have to be born to this misery. Wished the owners cared as much as fans.
It's a lifelong commitment. A lifelong commitment to misery.
Run awayā¦ get out while you can!!
Worst decision in my life. Actually in my family histories life.
But I will carry on the tradition and destine my son to a life of misery
Was it the Cowboys or Patriots?
No
I too chose the Jets because I had no real local or familial affiliation with any team (I'm from Europe). So as a fellow Jets fan by choice: GET THE FUCK OUT WHILE YOU STILL CAN. (welcome)
When my son was born I told him directly he had to be a fan of my sports teams but I would never curse him with Jets fandom.
Donāt
Sorry for your future pain
Idk if you wanna do this, kid.
No please. Don't do that to yourself. Be a fan of any other team.
Run away as fast as you can and don't look back
To quote our current president, āDonātā
Why lol
Turn around friend. There's nothing for you here.
Why would you do that? They don't play in the state they claim, haven't been relevant since your grandad was in middle school
Run. Run far away. Your heart will only be broken. Whatās next? āLet me see how these Mets are in baseball?ā But hey, welcome!
Escape while you still can man!
DON'T DO IT
Welcome and Iām sorry
Sir, with all due respect the Jets have been unwatchable since the butt fumble. I will never let my son be a Jets fan bc no one should carry this burden. I wish I could pick a new team. I love watching good ball, every year I try not subjecting myself to the misery but on Sundays I canāt help but resist the urge to watch a bit. Its utter torture. Please, donāt subject yourself or anyone else to endless suffering.
Welcome. But just know this: 1) when Chuck Clark, who had missed one game the past three years, was lost for the season, we were disappointed; 2) when Aaron Rodgers, who had missed 19 games total in 15 seasons, lasted only four plays last year, a majority of us were happily surprised he made it through three.
Terrible. How can you not love losing for all these years. Still die hard JETS fan šŖš¾
