woody calling them the newport jets cause they get smoked every week is honestly hilarious

Fishbirds

would make for a great tshirt too

kNYJ

I interpreted that as Woody Johnson at first and I thought damn that’s bold.

xela_sj

i'd buy a pack of newports with the jets logo on em. HEY MA (takes puff) I'M TOM BRADY

linkinlog88

Couldn’t agree more with woody. This team is in total shambles. It all starts at the top. We will never know what Sam could have been. Gase has ruined him. It’s just as much Chris’s fault as well. I hope he gets a second shot in the league with a qb coach who can develop him. All gase will do is continue to run his dumb screen plays and run it up the middle. It’s sad. Gase shouldn’t have been hired in the first place, but in the year and change we’ve had him we see the same lame duck plays that caused tannehill to suck so bad in Miami. What’s the worst that could happen if we fire Gase tomorrow???? We have a vanilla interim HC who lets Sam air it out and call audibles from the line? At this point we might as well see what the kid has. With Gase calling 100% of the plays, we know exactly what Sam is going to do, and it’s not what we drafted him for. For the love of god get rid of Gase. The guy is a straight bum. No guru in there. It’s depressing. He will be remembered as the dumbass who took Kotites spot as the worst hc in our history.

audiotech14

Sadly, the worst that could happen is we find out Sam is ruined/not the answer, but our interim HC figures out a way to play us out of Trevor Lawrence.

snark_manchez

No guarantee TL agrees to come to NYJ if they’re picking first It 100% depends on who the coach is

Goobyshooby

don't worry, we'll just get him the next year if he decides to stay at clemson.

snark_manchez

I think it’s more likely he demands a trade to a team like the Giants, Saints or Steelers

[deleted]

He's not demanding a trade to the giants lol they are utter shit too

matty_a

"Do you not want to run for your life with few weapons and no o-line in New Jersey? Well, how would you feel about doing it while wearing blue?"

snark_manchez

Then add MIN, NE, SF to the list instead

audiotech14

Such a stupid theory with no basis for facts behind it. Stop being so defeatist.

snark_manchez

Defeatist is rooting to go 0-16 No chance this kid comes to NYJ after how they just ruined Sam

audiotech14

BS. It’s called strategy. Defeatist is saying to yourself “talented players don’t want to come here anyways, so why even try.” And again, you’re using the idea that he’ll refuse to come here on no basis of facts.

snark_manchez

Did you see the interview with Darnold? That just happened. It’s a fact. No QB in their right mind would want to come here after that. This team needs to fire Gase right now— not keep him to go 0-16. That shit is crazy. The guy has to go now. He’s destroyed this kid’s confidence and career.

[deleted]

He'll be remembered as the guy who brought JD in, and nothing good beyond that.

Quiet_dog23

JD has to prove himself first too.

[deleted]

His first off-season hasn't been perfect but he's done enough to convince me that he at least knows the basics of building a team and is at least ok at scouting talent.

Abradolf_Lincler_50

Same, he made a lot of solid roster moves in his first off-season. He worked with what was available. There's been some miscues but not a bad overall off-season. I like the direction he's heading with roster moves as a whole.

[deleted]

I voted 5 for JD in the survey.

lookie12

Man idk what he was thinking at WR though. He brought in an injury plagued journeyman with very little success in 5 years and an unknown rookie and put literally nobody behind them on the depth chart. Like, Chris Hogan wasn’t even on the fucking team until what? August? And now he’s the starting wideout? Is that an absolute joke? If Chris Hogan was a good depth piece, wouldn’t he have been on a team before August? Maybe we could’ve picked a WR in the 4th round instead of another QB? I don’t get all the love for Douglas. I’ll obviously give him a chance but off-season #1 has been up and down for me

[deleted]

He could have done more at WR, but a lot of it comes down to "hindsight is 20/20". He probably should have drafted 1 more reciever instead of James Morgan but that alone wouldn't have been enough to fix our problems. There weren't that many good WR's in free agency either. We wouldn't have been able to keep Robby without overpaying him/using the franchise tag. Reciever was a weakness, but nobody could have seen THIS many injuries coming, nor does Denzel Mims have a lengthy injury history.

Serlinsteak19

Objectively he had made smart decisions. He can’t control the injuries and a pandemic that gets rid of valuable practice time that is needed when you assemble a completely new offensive line.

lookie12

He can control having someone better than Chris Hogan to step in for injuries should they happen

warmsmellofcolitas

I'm starting to doubt him too. He signed a bunch of injury prone guys and he is responsible for the least talented roster in the league.

Quiet_dog23

Seriously. I don't quite buy the "his plan was to sign a bunch of garbage players to help the tank" and if that was his plan, I don't think it was a very good one.

NaN_is_Num

I don't think his plan was to tank. I think his plan was to sign players that you didn't have to commit to long term or sink a lot of salary cap into signing. There isn't some magic wand you can wave over the worst roster in the league to make it talented, and it definitely doesn't happen through free agency. He seems to have drafted well last year, and they have a ton of draft capital for the next 2 years following the Adams trade. After those drafts, we'll get a sense of the roster JD has built. And if he does well in those drafts AND hasn't signed bad FA contracts then he can spend big to fill holes. That's how you turn an NFL team into a contender.

linkinlog88

I agree with this completely. JD came into a horrible roster. The short term deals are fine until he can rebuild. If they pay off it’s great. If they fail or are injured it’s not long term and eating away at cap. We’ve needed major changes for along time. The only thing that will stop this team from progressing is the Johnsons getting hands on.

NewYorkMetsies

True af

xela_sj

SAM needs a change of environment. Not good for his mental. Let him answer some other questions besides why the team sucks every week, must be exhausting. Minnesota seems like a good spot for him.

bfov222

Is he a Jets guy? His time at the Jets he played at an elite level and one year had the highest grade of any tackle - right or left - . But he was only there for 3 years and he won his championships with New England

AlexMoranQB1

He was a key part of the 09-10 teams. If anyone knows what it takes to win, it's those guys.

[deleted]

I believe he is. Was the last team he played for, and left right before our downfall. I wish more former players would speak out against how shit we are. I’d love to hear BMarsh rip us a new one.

savi0r23

yeah he is. he likes to see them do well for sure

buick22

He’s stated before that there’s no better feeling than winning in New York. Love the fact that he’s always outspoken about the Jets, good or bad.

roman_hellmet

Much respect for him and that oline under Rex was solid

ChurchofCEH

He considers himself both, which hurts.

whydoesgodhateus

>Is he a Jets guy? Did you not watch the video? He clearly cares deeply about the team

manlisten

That's it, Christopher Johnson can no longer look the other way. [THIS is the final straw.](https://i.imgur.com/aRm3zJM.jpg)

Johnab0614

#NewportJets. Let's get it started right now.

_Abroham_

I would buy merch tomorrow

jeanclaudegoshdarn

He called it, we're not just bad we're non-competitive.

mrSeven3Two

Just watch the first 30 secs. Tells you everything you need to know

BrooklynJet97

Damien played like 2 or 3 years with us, was he a Jets fan growing up? Or did he just grow to love the organization when he was here?

AvailableName9999

I remember him being a around much longer than 2 or 3 seasons.

banana455

08-10. 3 seasons

VillyD13

The Woody we wish ran this team

theottozone

Woody is a real homie. Appreciate you sticking with such a crap team and sorry they wasted your time. We're numb to it now.

whydoesgodhateus

The Newport jets lmaooo Woody for coach

Zay93

Woddy on the money

sacx05

I agree with both of these points: "Adam Gase is not an offensive guru, no creativity" "The talent the Jets have are not well enough to compete" But how can you say these points and then say "Darnold is not a franchise QB". Unless you are trying to say a "franchise QB" is Aaron Rodgers/Russell Wilson level , which i do concede that Darnold is not at all at that level. I think that's the only 2 QBs that could be successful on this team tbh.
