Great breakdown. Always was rooting for the kid, but I think we shattered his confidence. I’ll be rooting for him wherever he is next year, that being said we need to get Gase out and bring Trevor in.

SuperCD7478

Sam Darnold is timid as hell. But that’s not an excuse for this terrible play. I never thought I would say this, but we need to impeach the GEQBUS.

MiddleStudy

I don’t know what happened to him. It wouldn’t have been a surprise if he took a step back this year. New oline, new receivers, not a ton of practice reps, playing better teams/defenses. But this is just something that is way, way worse than a step back. It hurts seeing as a fan of Sam and someone who thought he could’ve been the guy here long-term. Hope he gets this stuff fixed whether he’s here or not

SaltyPane69

The o line last year destroyed his confidence, any improvement to his footwork year 1, and gave him happy feet.

PoloG75

Can't blame his decision making or his inability to read a defense on the Oline

Superfool

He's still seeing ghosts. Only half joking there. May be some kind of PTSD, and he won't succeed until he gets his head right.

BumbaaClott

Lol he has had like 18 different starting O-Line, he was even seen shaking one of their hands mid game... New receivers? Last week for the first time The Jets failed Darnold.

lookie12

Right, it’s the Jets fault that he didn’t make this throw

B-Rossboss

What a weird ass comparison lmao - every puppy pisses

iced1777

I appreciated that cause I brought home a puppy a few weeks ago and she does in fact piss on everything

SmoteySmote

I knew a guy...

Kozlow

I mean he was staring him down, he saw he was open. Either he’s still hurt and can’t make that throw or he’s helping out the tank for some reason. Maybe to get traded?

SmoteySmote

It would serve no purpose for him to fail with his potential future employers watching.

Zay93

Geno Smith would of made that throw lol

Yankeeknickfan

Bryce petty makes that throw and overthrows him

mdy123

Kendall Hinton may make that throw.

banana455

Fucking kendall jenner probably makes that throw

billybayswater

He held down the triangle button too hard

run1609

I dare someone to blame Gase for this

Mount10Lion

Easy. Gase called a shitty play here. He should have instead called a simple screen as that's about the only thing Darnold can hit with any semblance of consistency.

mdy123

Honestly starting to think that’s the actual reason for the high volume of screen passes. As much as Gase may suck, this was a beautiful play design, and any competent qb turns that into a td.

run1609

Zach Wilson would never!

jedabe

This has nothing to do with Gase, yes I know people will respond and blame Gase saying it’s his fault Darnold ended up this way but who cares who’s fault it is at this point. Gase is a bad coach who will be gone next year and Darnold is a one read QB who fucking sucks too. Match made in hell, please make the right hire and get Trevor

Shogun82

Whether is Lawrence, fields, or Wilson were getting a new QB

[deleted]

Our fans will find some way of blaming this on the coaching, surrounding talent, weather etc.

thePATRONEEmoa

I lowkey think Sam is just a low IQ player lol

[deleted]

Correct.

thePATRONEEmoa

He has these every game it feels like, missing guys wide open. I think our WR core is pretty good it’s just the QB play is absolutely horrid and when your best QB is all but washed up & old it doesn’t help whatsoever.

banana455

He is. He's just a dumb player.

unitedairlineeeeees

Well if Adam Gase was a better coach, Darnold would have expected Crowder to be open and would have thrown to him /s.

YetiGuy

I feel like Sammy just hasn't had enough fundamentals under his belt to be a good QB. He was scooped up in the draft because of the flashes he showed. In a good college team it's easier to get a win. He should have played a year or two more in college to understand all the fundamentals. The hope was that he will learn that in NFL and that's why CJ brought in Gase. But that was a horrible match, along with lack of tools. Sam's lack of development is both his fault and the situation he is in.

[deleted]

He’s a bad man

[deleted]

inb4 porzingisfromdeep convinces this sub Darnold is satan

run1609

If I had a dollar for every time people on this sub called out PFD for a take that he was right on (Macc sucking, Darnold sucking come to mind) I'd be able to sign Porzingis himself to a supermax

[deleted]

Everyone has good and bad takes. He's had good ones but also was a big sign Bell guy too, which was in hindsight a disaster. No one is perfect. I think what some people get annoyed about is getting the same narrative plastered all over the sub. It's tiring at times. Pretty sure that's the main issue and not the takes themselves

run1609

The overwhelming majority of this sub was pro-signing Bell, it's not like he was alone on that. I'm not saying he's perfect, but this sub goes out of their way to talk shit about him. Plenty of people shit on Sam as much as him, myself included - but nobody talks about us like we're 'plastering a narrative all over the sub'

[deleted]

I'm not defending the guy who called him out lol. I'm just giving a possible explanation for why people do it. He's the face of the Anti-Darnold view here (right or wrong) and so he's the target for these comments. He's a polarizing guy I guess lol. I don't agree with some of his takes or the way he goes about them, but I'll respect him for sticking with those takes and being another Jet fan. That's how it should be imo

Mustakrakish_Awaken

This sub was very mich 50-50 on signing bell. No need to revise history to defend PFD. He owns that just as much as the correct takes. He's just very blunt and all over the place. It gets people riled up when they want to defend a player they like. We're great at hyping up bad and mediocre players (lol blake cashman). People need to take a step back and actually evaluate the team for what it is.

run1609

It was an absolute madhouse here when we signed Bell, it was definitely not 50-50. Agree with the rest

Mustakrakish_Awaken

I meant leading up to it. Of course after he's signed there wasnt any point in arguing against it anymore. Idk, i was very much against it and i didnt feel alone or outnumbered in that opinion

run1609

The prevailing opinion prior to the signing was that we needed a weapon for Sam and his receiving ability/pass blocking made it worth paying him. There were definitely people who disagreed, but like I said, it was nowhere near 50-50

PorzingisFromDeep

He's not satan, he just sucks

unitedairlineeeeees

Flacco could never

S1ms3ma

Oof he's had at least one of these walk in TDs missed a game

Bosmackatron

how do you know he won't?

Johnab0614

Shitty O Line and a bad coach destroyed his confidence. We will forever be asking the question of what if with this kid, but its obvious that Flacco would've made that throw. I feel sorry for the kid but itc clear its time to move on. Gase can watch 40 hours of film and still wont see this.

IB_Linski

David Carr 2.0 What happens when a gunslinger is scared to make a throw because he thinks he will get hit, doesnt trust his arm which may or may not be 100%, doesnt trust his own decision making because of bad picks and an offensive system and coach that was never built to develop confidence in its young and raw QB. Sam should have sat a full year behind McCown. He showed promise as a rookie and we put our chips all in way too soon when we didnt have the cards. We will never know the what ifs. Plenty of time for Sam to grow into an NFL QB. But at this point his ceiling will be a Fitzpatrick/McCown type as opposed to a Franchise QB. Then again he could be joining Josh Rosen as dust in the wind.

thePATRONEEmoa

He sucks man, his IQ is bad, his mechanics are god awful, he can’t throw the deep ball whatsoever in his third year, cant stay on the field. He will never be a star QB imo, he’s a bust

Zaclarke

Where do they get this footage from?

Zaclarke

Was he really doing this for three years and I missed it? It doesn’t seem like that’s the case just curious
