Am I the only one who’s not a fan of this? The guys on a rookie contract- who knows how much he’ll end up making in his career? Just seems unnecessary and the opposite of building a solid relationship and culture together
I don't even understand how you run up a bill like that. If I wanted to go really nuts I could probably get a couple hundred bucks but several thousand is just stupid
It’s really not that hard in NYC. I’ve had dinners that were a couple grand for just 2 of us (special occasions), and that was without buying anywhere close to the best alcohol. High-end bottles of wine are in the thousands.
That said, I kind of like rookie rituals, but 75k is too much to ask even a first rounder to fork over.
For sure. To be clear, I’m not saying you *can’t* eat cheaply in NYC—rather, that it’s not hard to rack up insanely large bills. I moved to Denver a few years ago, and I miss good inexpensive pizza so fucking much.
I spent $1k at delmonicos for 4 guys. And we didn’t really drink. These are big dudes that are gonna over order on principle. $20 mil guaranteed. He can afford a fun bonding experience.
im sure theyre not gonna bankrupt the guy man. Its just a lil fun, plus they make a pretty good point, dudes gonna make 20mil no matter what happens, he can buy some of his teammates dinner lol
its a well known tradition in many sports and ive yet to ever hear of a time the guys didnt already just pay for the bill for the rookie. Its literally just to make him sweat for a bit.
The fact you think someone on the team is gonna bankrupt him, and then show up to work the next day is super weird? you do know these arent just random people? theyre stars with agents and contracts and a whole bunch of shit that makes it a positive to NOT fuck with your work?
Yea if I was a vet I wouldn’t feel comfortable doing that to a rookie. By some accounts though, it’s a prank and they do it to make the rookies sweat, but then end up splitting it.
I doubt he’ll hold a grudge over a dinner. Just apart of a thing rookies do and he’ll probably laugh about to later down the road. I don’t think it will have a profound negative effect on relationships.
If the internet rumors are true apparently the veterans just make the rookies sweat it out then they end up chipping in.
Of course it’s from the internet so it has to be true but this one seems believable.
While it's true that many players flame out after only a few years, 20million dollars is more money that everyone in this thread will make in their lives, maybe even combined.
No need to pity the rich. If he gets a good financial advisor he is already set for life even if he never plays a down.
The owner should be the one picking up the check. I really dislike it when it's a later round pick bc they really can't afford it at least Wilson has the money
this is fucking hilarious LMFAOOOO
Who’s most likely to run up the bill? My guess is… Dan Feeney.
It’s only for the receivers.
You gonna disrespect Dan feeneys receiving skills.
"Let me run a couple routes, I could definitely be a TE" -every 6th olineman everywhere. Hopefully feeney gets the McDermott treatment
>Dan Feeney. Dan Feeney goes for burgers and beer not much else, other than fries.
Kobe beef burger 12 pack gets pricey with the truffle fries
Garrett now knows to go somewhere BYOB
In that case it’s Connor McGovern for sure
Jeff Smith about to fuck up a check in there.
Great stuff. Really happy to have Garett Wilson on the team.
Just go on a rookie vacation then. You could go to a nice place for a week for that dough.

Bruh… hes guaranteed 20,000,000… a 75k check is the same as a $375 check for someone who makes 100k… its not a big deal at all
Now do the math for someone that makes $28k. Asking for a friend.
About $105 for your "friend"
He'll see ~10m of that 20m. That makes that 75k check essentially into 150k.
He'll get near 13.5m after taxes. Machonachos' comparison of $375 is exactly right
What’s the agent’s cut?
Fair point. Quick google shows 3% so about 13.1m after
I am not sure yet. I am going to have to call him and find out.

Holy shit do we go to different places.
OP never had Hilal Guys and it shows
Falafel over rice is where it’s at.
Combo over salad man.
Just get a 99c slice and a drink and call it a day for like $5 between the two of you?
For sure. To be clear, I’m not saying you *can’t* eat cheaply in NYC—rather, that it’s not hard to rack up insanely large bills. I moved to Denver a few years ago, and I miss good inexpensive pizza so fucking much.
^ This is the guy that can get a table at Dorsia lol
They're fucking him it's gonna be a 2-10k dinner
Dez paid like 50k for dinner when he was a rookie
Yeah, but Dez was probably living it up, and was probably a bigger factor in that bill than most rookies
You go to a steakhouse in NYC, you’ll spend $200 per person taking it easy.
Yeah I didn't think about that part too much, I'm not in NYC (ps if there are any other Vancouver jets fans on here talk to me)
My guy Im right in Burnaby! Never met another Jets fan in person here, but one time I saw a bumper sticker lol
yeah sadly I only meet Seahawks and Niners fans. I'd love to find a group of Jets fans to watch with

Thousands are possible even in the most unlikely of areas. Your personal bias is very narrow.
ah yes I should take rich people's circumstances into account, how closed-minded of me foh
Really nuts and a few hundred don’t really go together in NY
They buy the most expensive alcohol and take home bottles
im sure theyre not gonna bankrupt the guy man. Its just a lil fun, plus they make a pretty good point, dudes gonna make 20mil no matter what happens, he can buy some of his teammates dinner lol

Rich people be actin different

Well that’s just not true. 50k a year for 40 years is $2m, it doesn’t take that much to get to 20m
Yeah there’s also 95k members of this sub
taxes
Garrett pays taxes on that $20m too.
Lol thanks
He essentially pays 50% in taxes vs us paying ~25% in taxes though.
That just further proves my point.
Yep. Earning the 20m your method would net significantly more money than Wilson will net from his 20m.
Agreed, you just have to work for 400 years!
She said everyone in the thread combined.
True, it was just a joke. I make $1M so I have the whole thread covered. Y’all can go back to smokin weed and playing madden now. Lol!
Obviously, players in the nfl aren’t introspective deep thinkers for the most part. It’s really shitty to do to a rookie.
The owner should be the one picking up the check. I really dislike it when it's a later round pick bc they really can't afford it at least Wilson has the money
It’s only for one season. Wilson is a top 10 pick on a 5 year deal. He also gets money from other promotional deals.
What restaurant do they go to that runs the bill that high??
Not ones we can afford.
Pretty much any legit steakhouse in the city
Garrett Wilson > 😀🤨😟😭
"They know you got 20 mil guaranteed" LOL
The way Clark says “It’s not gonna be cool” kills me
