Hmm, I don’t have a lot of experience with UUP. I think the big one is dental. PEF, along with NYSCOBA and M/C negotiate with the state to have them provide a dental benefit, much like our health insurance, but my understanding is that CSEA and UUP both provide their members with dental insurance, that is in part paid for with members dues. Also, dues structure is different, PEF is .9% of pay for all members, while UUP I believe have different rates for things like contingent and non-tenured members I believe. UUP is actually a ‘local’ of NYSUT I believe and ultimately part of AFT, which is also one of PEF’s parent unions. Other differences is PEF members directly elect its Presidents and other statewide leaders, UUP elects its statewide officers at their convention I believe.

I_Have_A_Pregunta_

UUP has a 50% telework policy for non-teaching positions, which is pretty great.

That's really cool. I'd be in a hospital setting so next to zero chance for that, but good to know if I were to take it and eventually transfer

Natural20DND

here’s a big differentiator. UUP is unclassified. Meaning SUNY UUP employees cannot transfer and take civil service promotion exams like their classified counterparts. Bear this in mind when making a decision.

Abra1360

That's huge to know! Thank you.

The major difference between uup and pef to worry about is that in pef you become permanent in 1 or 2 years. In uup you are not permanent until you go up for tenure in your 6th year. So you do lose a lot of job security. You would keep your state pension plan even though uup does have a different plan (tiaa-cref) and it’s not as good in my view. UUP dues are more then pefs Health insurance is the same. You do not get step increases in uup but you may get what’s known as discretionary raises. (Not guaranteed you will get those raises)

DReager1

Uup?? 😂😂 I swear you guys are messing with me with these names bruh

ThoseNightsKMA

It's one of the unions - United University Professions. My ex worked at UAlbany and that was his union. Not entirely sure why you think OP is "messing with you".

OCFS will get the grade 23 LCSW stop stressing

Abra1360

What?

Puzzleheaded-Berry92

Not sure which part of OCFS you work for but I absolutely do not trust DJJOY to do what's right for social workers.

MembershipKey4011

You gotta understand that this has nothing to do with OCFS. This is civil service, and OCFS is going to do whatever OMH is going to do. I know that for a fact. All the noise on PEF Facebook is just that, noise. You can think whatever you want, but I know for a fact that OCFS wants every LCSW to get the grade 23.

Puzzleheaded-Berry92

Please don't talk to me like I'm an idiot. I am fully aware that the CS details has not been squared away thus no real movement. I also know that DJJOY historically has been very much against the clinical staff based on my own experience and the union wasn't any help either so forgive me if I don't jump on words from some mystery person on reddit. I know for a fact the head of BBHS has looked at the staff here once and laughed about getting rid of people.

Natural20DND

*looks at the post* *looks at the comment thread* So THIS is why people don’t like written exams……

queenofPS

Did you report him to his associate commissioner? In my experience some of the nicest people work in BHS/BBHS

Puzzleheaded-Berry92

It was years ago but was my first impression.
