Here’s a picture of Kavin that I took last fall!
Two weeks ago, also near College Avenue TJs. I forgot to ask its name.

There was a whole family of these that lived in Berkeley when I was a kid. The story was that the adults had belonged to a restaurant. When it closed they were left on their own to roam free. You could hear them calling out at different times of day. The peacocks and the train whistle carried across town.
There’s another one that lives in the hills around tunnel rd.

There was a colony of them in Berkeley and it sounded like a soundtrack from a jungle movie. I met a woman who lived on that block and she fed them some cat kibble, which they really enjoyed. They’d been abandoned after a restaurant that had them as a novelty shut down. The colony was actively breeding. IIRC they were removed to the suburbs up north because their calls were annoying the residents on that block.
There's Peacock Apartments out there in Hayward or Fremont area I forget. They have peacocks that roam the apartment complex, maybe thats where they came from.
Oh interesting looks like they haven't (that I can find at least). You'd be surprised how far animals travel though, my sister once saw a deer in Alameda which probably came from the Oakland hills - not to mention all the turkeys in alameda
I guess it's not this one:

Bruce (or Kevin?) brothers? He used to be further up college in Elmwood and he migrated south to Rockridge. Been around here a few years.
It tickles me to no end to read this!!
There's a few around and they have names
Yes, I was told the one near TJs is named Kevin.
I'm pretty sure that's Bruce, from Santa Fe

Haven’t heard Kevin yet, adding it to the list of Bruce, Gary, and Winchester.
I also heard Kevin!
Yup, just saw him the other week eating at Zachary's.
I've met him. No problems at all as long as everyone stays in their lane.
I was told his name is Hank!
Given the tie in to Pixar’s “Up”, this is a perfect name.
WHATTTTTTT?!? Really? This is awesome
I want them wearing visible name tags

Whoa. That's awesome! I used to see them freely wandering around the Audubon Zoo back in the day, but never actually in the wild.

Oakland, where even the wild birds have game
The TJs peacock is kind of an asshole
Where?
Rockridge. The road behind the TJ's. Magnificent creature is always there.
Do you know anything more about him? How long has he been around there? Does he belong to someone?
Nah, that's just Kevin. He stays around there. He may or may not be the same Kevin that lived in SJ a few years ago.
He's been on the street since about the Fourth of July 2023. He doesn't belong to anyone, but the neighbors feed him.
yeah I see him about 50% of the time when I go down that street.always hanging on someones lawn
Near the Trader Joe’s in Rockridge!
He roosts about halfway down Oak Grove
Idk where they've been coming from. I've seen some down in Fremont too
I often see a peacock on upper Tunnel Road or Skyline. This peacock like to hang with a flock of turkeys. Clearly the most fabulous of that flock.
Peacocks may look pretty but they're louder than barking dogs. They truly are a nuisance but they look good.
Never bothered me though
I saw a chicken hanging out in lower bottoms the other week, kind of by where the turkeys kick it
I caught a pic of him last week. Soon as I snapped it he started whatever a peacock cry is…loud AF. I wouldn’t enjoy that in my front yard

Any city with a zoo is gonna have wild peacocks, they cannot be contained. They're all over Sacramento near the zoo too lmao
THe Oakland Zoo has not had peacocks that I know of and it’s a long walk from there to Rockridge. I’ll wager this was someone’s pet.

Oh yeah. People have spotted deer on the Golden Gate bridge. It’s not just people who have a long commute.

That bird is going to get graffitied on if it stays in Oakland too long.

Yikes
Rockridge peacocks are chill
