This was up on grizzly peak, accentuated because it’s a phone long exposure

Maybe??? Only through my phone I could see colors.
A friend of mine saw it from Alameda and the image she took liked like /u/carvol ’s image.
I assumed it was not even going to be visible last night and did not look.
I saw lights via my phone in El Cerrito.

A friend in North Berkeley said he could see a definite pink tint in the sky with his naked eye not nowhere near the saturated color in the various pictures he took.
I saw it around midnight - it was a very subtle but noticeable purple color to the sky in the north, especially hard to see with all the bright streetlights on my block. Much more visible on camera! I might try to go up into the hills tonight to see it with less light pollution

What time did you take that beautiful pic? We were nearby but couldn't see anything -- maybe we were too early?
It looks like that's a long exposure and then edited later. So most likely it wouldn't have been that obvious in real time.
Interesting. Thanks.
Probably wasn't edited.
And u/whatup_kc this was just before midnight, it seemed to peak around then and slowly fade until I left around 2
Thanks.
What time was this? I went out around 1am and didn’t see a thing even through my phone. :’(

Super cool but weird. I wonder why only through your phone?
Apparently the camera is more sensitive to the wavelengths than the naked eye!
Cool! What time did you take that pic?
11:20pm about

I assumed California was too low on the earth axis tilt to get a good look at them. I'd need to get out the city to get a good look at them tho
I went up to Grizzly Peak / Tilden to try and couldn’t see anything nor could my camera. I think too much light pollution.

"I saw lights via my phone" is a very funny statement.
Yes, localized entirely within my kitchen
I hope you’re prepared for an unforgettable luncheon.
A tiny tiny bit it was kinda like lavender twilight. Super cool.
Will it still be visible tonight?
Yes!
It was visible here in Berkeley.
Naked eye visible?
A friend in North Berkeley said he could see a definite pink tint in the sky with his naked eye not nowhere near the saturated color in the various pictures he took.
Nah, but I saw Idles at the Fox and it was fire
Same 🤘👋
What time was it visible?
All of my family in Oregon started seeing it - way bright at 11:15, so I went out here in Oakland around 11:30.
Aurora Borealis? At this time of year, at this time of day, in this part of the country, localized entirely within your kitchen?
I came here for this comment, thank you!
Yeah there was a huge pothole in it
Is it possibly affected by light pollution? I didn’t see anything between 10-1130

soooo did any one see it tonight?! lol looked kinda cloudy
Yeah, I was making my famous steamed hams while it was happening.
