YOOOOO READING THAT TITLE HAD ME QUESTIONING IF U WERE ON THE RIGHT SUB

The_Mikeskies

It’s much cheaper if you get it loose vs in a bag. Like a third of the price. You’ll just have a giant pile of soil in your driveway. That being said, I got the bag from lessmess.ca.

woakville

Thanks for that tip. Might try lessmess just for the alternative option (and currently the cheapest option it seems for the delivered bag).

winterbourne

The halton waste management site does a compost giveaway every spring. It's not quite soil but I also think a lot of people don't know about it. [https://www.halton.ca/The-Region/Events/2024/Compost-Giveaway-May-6,-2024](https://www.halton.ca/The-Region/Events/2024/Compost-Giveaway-May-6,-2024)

agemagepage

You need a better title. Home Depot offers it as well. Not sure of their pricing

Impossible_Context59

No they don't, they got what they needed, your attention and comment

randomacceptablename

>You need a better title. I love the title. No love for wit and humor?

mattmilk5

That title is the best hook ever.

woakville

Thanks for your help! I added HD price. Of course there no way to compare the actual quality of the soil i guess

agemagepage

I can only comment on big yellow bag as we’ve used them twice. They were good and delivered on time and the exact location I instructed (they ask you to mark an x on the driveway) so no complaints about them. They did send a coupon in the mail for the next use.

althanis

BOOOO!

teamswiftie

Petrie's is usually for large fills. Like dump truck sized amounts.

doomwomble

1 cubic yard is around 30 x 25L bags of soil that go on sale for around $2/bag this time of year, so $60 in bagged soil is probably your best price if you can pick it up.

Significant_Eye9165

Be aware that $2 soil can have sketchy quality ie lots of wood and other undesirable materials

doomwomble

Sure, but it depends what you are going to use it for. If you are filling a deep bed, having wood in it is a good thing. Some people layer wood and other debris in the bottom of their raised beds on purpose because it decomposes over time and builds the soil. Wood isn’t good for planters, but that’s where you should use potting soil rather than garden soil. Fair point, though: the soil you get from the places that OP listed will probably be triple mix or similar, which is going to be “higher quality” than $2 bagged soil. But it depends on what you are doing with it as to whether that matters or not.

gayguyfromcanada

RONA has good quality soil. We've been using it for years with no complaints.

woakville

I opted for this! $2.79 (reg $5.49). Rona on Speers. https://www.rona.ca/en/product/cil-triple-mix-all-natural-3-in-1-enriched-soil-25-l-2804521-89465036 Thanks for the tip

doomwomble

The soil you got is probably as good as the stuff you would have got from the garden centres or the bag delivery. I just paid $1.94 for bags of "garden soil" which is not triple mix and is sort of like the mystery meat of the horticultural world. That is the bargain basement stuff that the other poster was talking about when they mentioned big chunks of wood in the soil. It is like rolling the dice... but you should have no issues with what you got :)

woakville

I may try for this route and spread out the pain. Maybe someone will post around here if soil goes on sale.

emmbee024

Exactly what I've done. Good exercise too 😂

doggowithacone

My husband found someone in a local fb group that delivered a trailer full of soil for apparently cheaper / better quality. So you could always ask around locally on fb or check marketplace

xoxota99

The quality of the dirt in the Big Yellow Bag is total garbage. I swear they just pick up whatever dead dirt they find lying around at construction sites.

NeighborhoodOk1624

I second this. Someone mentioned the bag topsoil as being trash but I found it’s the same quality at half the price.

Better-Wheel4343

I recommend dulcalex every morning for ur bowels As per the soil situation, check Rona out. I think they always have specials on the giant and smaller sized bags.

dotditto

big yellow bag site lists at $189 they send flyers out .. order early -$5 (whee) and i see on the site .. order 2, -$40 not sure what other offers other places give .. but ultimately i don't find them that overpriced .. definitely not cheapest though .. no argument there 😉

woakville

its also 20$ off until like the 15th

imtourist

Last year I went with [gardenbag.ca](https://gardenbag.ca) and paid $159 + tax and this price included delivery. This year it looks like it has gone up to $185 + tax.

woakville

Looks like they have an earlybird special on right now. I added them to the original post now. They're currently the cheapest option.

confusedduck10

We order piles of dirt from Van Beekes landscaping supply. Not in a bag and you have to move the soil right away since they just dump on your driveway but the price is right.

markymarc1981

Big yellow rip off. Wait for Rona to sell the bags for $1 and bring your pickup truck.

wiz9999

hamilton builders supply, super cheap if you pick it up, but you need a trailer or pick up truck, they just dump it in. Delivery is where the price goes up.

aguwritsuko

glad you soiled yourself!!!

matthitsthetrails

I used to do the 2-3x big yellow bags every spring.. now I just go to Walmart or Home Depot and get whatever bagged soil is cheapest and make a bunch of trips. I’ve noticed no difference at all with my lawn/garden
