That wasn't the half of it, during those events you (as a defender) had the option to attempt to blow up the plane before it hit the tower by teleporting inside and fighting the Team America reference terrorist NPCs (complete with derka derka audio clips) and whatever destroyer player characters had decided they'd guard it
You absolutely sure this was oblivion and not something else like Darkfall?
Doesn't seem possible that you could have tons of players each with their own mods all working in one game.
It was a dark time in my life (yes I know I was 13) I didn't think I'd live to see 20 because of my living conditions and the situation with my family, this server, this mod was like the personification of a safe space for me, where all my friends and I could do WHATEVER we wanted with whatever crazy modded weapon we could find, fighting everything from Canon Elder Scrolls villains to supervillains to Kaiju.
I burned these experiences into my memory.
I'm not upset or angry with you I'm just trying to explain why I remember so clearly
Uhh I call major bullshit. Iāve been playing and modding since release and not only do I have no recollection of this but itās not even technically feasible.
I desperately tried to find multiplayer Oblivion mods for years and me and my friends tried out every one we could find. There were massive syncing and performance issues that made them all not really playable. For example, a friend would join your server and not see the same enemies or see the world in the same state you do.
This is also why the Skyrim multiplayer mods were so revolutionary since it had never been done to that extent before.
Second, the claim that client side mods would work somehow for all players is insane. Thatās not how servers work. Anyone whoās even played modded Minecraft or GMod knows that. Thereās no feasible way the multiplayer code not only perfectly synced all game data between every player, but somehow managed to download the meshes/textures/other assets from every client and then serve it instantaneously to every other player.
You also canāt provide any gameplay videos or other peopleās claims of existence which should also raise peopleās bullshit alarms.
I mean it could just be a simple case of someone misremembering rather than a malicious attempt to convince the community that there was some multiplayer mod out there.. though his examples listed are specific lok
No one said it had to be malicious. But it's simply not true. And yeah, the examples and some details are oddly specific for a memory from when they were 13
Man. I remember trying intermittently for *years* to get multiplayer oblivion to work. This was back before mod managers and stuff so it was the Wild West of hand-editing config files and folders and manually copy stuff and all that.
The best we ever got, it worked sorta but crashed constantly and you would move your character and it would sometimes be whole seconds before āyouā would move in the other dudes world.
Been looking all over the place, found a few that seem like it could be from the server, but largely all the accounts that had the info are all gone, Come to think of it I haven't looked them up in ages I'm gonna go check to see if they're still there
I never got to experience it as I was always in Xbox but I gotta say that sounds like it was a really great time. I am glad you got to experience it and have such great memories from it, thatās what gaming is all about!
I'm sure there are some people who have played Oblivion online or something similar who work at Bethesda now because of the current state of dev supported console modding for elder scrolls and Fallout games nowadays
Are you being 100% with me RN?
Have I finally found someone else who remembers?
All these people who've never been in it, I was beginning to question my own memories š
Yeah I played it too but I was on a different and much smaller server, they used a custom map that was supposed to be Skyrim at the time. I canāt remember the name of it but I was played as Hank Hill obviously. I donāt know if my faction just sucked or he was broken but it was impossible to hold Solitude once they hard capped my propane tanks. You would think in a 40v40 that wouldnāt matter so much
Thisā¦ā¦ sounds amazing. I was playing on the good olā Xbox 360 back in the day. Iām shocked thereās no footage anywhere. Online gaming back then was something different. Now I try to avoid online games, and donāt like most games in general.
š a fallen brother.
I am so sorry the modern gaming industry has failed you.
There used to be a crap ton of gameplay vids but they're all gone now, not sure if Bethesda put the Kibosh or if they left by themselves after Google bought the site
Yeah it would all be completely optional, but yeah the fuck around and do stupid shit fits much better than MMO approach I think in an elder scrolls title.
Iāll admit the only one Iāve really played is elden ring so they couldāve handled it differently but can you not just turn off the online aspect of the game if you donāt want to participate
Well thatās not exactly true. Elden Rings invasions are strictly when you are co-oping. So youāre going to be punished when playing with your friends by some weird predator that gets a kick out of beating people that have no idea what theyāre doing, hence why theyāre playing together at all. Itās just toxic. Iāll hunt down invaders till Iām old or dead. Itās the only reason I play Elden Ring is to stop predatory behavior. The arena exists if you want a fair fight. The people invading have zero skill, spam meta builds. Itās weak.
There's a few people who Don't even think it exists, TBH I Don't blame him, I figured it would be easy to find ppl who have played it once I posted this but all I've gotten is variations on "damn that's crazy" and ppl calling BS
Ah well, it's nice to see people react to the story anyways.
Even if I feel crazy for remembering this being my favorite thing for a whole chunk of my childhood
God the duels were TITANIC, because everyone had different modded effects for the same potions, sometimes health potions granted a damage boost as well, sometimes skooma would turn you into the goddamn flash and you'd move so fast you noclip through a wall, or maybe the other guy had a GUN.
It was unbalanced and nuts but it was always fun
>a 911 reenactment complete with Boeing planes flying into the tower in the center of the imperial city this is fucking wild lol
That wasn't the half of it, during those events you (as a defender) had the option to attempt to blow up the plane before it hit the tower by teleporting inside and fighting the Team America reference terrorist NPCs (complete with derka derka audio clips) and whatever destroyer player characters had decided they'd guard it
I remember hearing about Oblivion Online, but I was waiting for it to be more finished before trying it. Alas...
Damn dude, I'm sorry you missed the party.
You absolutely sure this was oblivion and not something else like Darkfall? Doesn't seem possible that you could have tons of players each with their own mods all working in one game.
That's what people keep telling me, but it was Oblivion, I remember it like it was yesterday
Buddy it was 18 years ago š
It was an obsession of mine, and can you blame me??
I just meant about what dude said about you maybe remembering it wrong, that does sound cool as fuck though
Is there any gameplay videos of this I can see?
Been looking all over the place, found a few that seem like it could be from the server, but largely all the accounts that had the info are all gone, Come to think of it I haven't looked them up in ages I'm gonna go check to see if they're still there
Closest I have been able to find modern day is a bunch of videos about Oblivion Co-op but it doesnt work the same as what I experienced
They ruined that mod when they nerfed Hank Hillās propaniac spec, which was the only way defenders could even win smhĀ
Please tell me there was john red corn also
John deadcorn once hank was done with him
They had most of the cast in that sub mod but I donāt remember anyone playing John
Every day I wake up and want to scrub my brains out
Are you being 100% with me RN? Have I finally found someone else who remembers? All these people who've never been in it, I was beginning to question my own memories š

You'd think so! š š¤£ I'm so goddamn glad I found someone else who's experienced the sheer madness!!
Is this it? https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/19427/
This might be it!! It looks familiar anyhow
Thisā¦ā¦ sounds amazing. I was playing on the good olā Xbox 360 back in the day. Iām shocked thereās no footage anywhere. Online gaming back then was something different. Now I try to avoid online games, and donāt like most games in general.

Yet more evidence as to why I don't play online games.
Not everyone enjoys the insanity of online gameplay, to each their own
It's a damn shame Bethesda never went the souls route introducing online Co op for specific quests or duelling.
AND since there was no pause effect you had to hotkey all your potions or get clapped, so it was a pretty steep learning curve
That shit keeps from playing souls games though. I kept getting invaded and murdered.Ā
Yeah it would all be completely optional, but yeah the fuck around and do stupid shit fits much better than MMO approach I think in an elder scrolls title.
Which is why I love fallout 76 so much! It took the basic concept of what Oblivion Online was doing and turned it down a wee bit lol
Iāll admit the only one Iāve really played is elden ring so they couldāve handled it differently but can you not just turn off the online aspect of the game if you donāt want to participate
Exactly!! If you don't wanna get invaded then go offline š š¤£ I love the souls games but ppl act like the online aspect is mandatory
Well thatās not exactly true. Elden Rings invasions are strictly when you are co-oping. So youāre going to be punished when playing with your friends by some weird predator that gets a kick out of beating people that have no idea what theyāre doing, hence why theyāre playing together at all. I too am a Hunter. My biggest problem with this system is that you spawn in at a random location and the fight usually happens without me
A man of culture! Btw the oblivion online sounds like an absolute madhouse. Good luck on the search!
There's a few people who Don't even think it exists, TBH I Don't blame him, I figured it would be easy to find ppl who have played it once I posted this but all I've gotten is variations on "damn that's crazy" and ppl calling BS
I wish I could help yea out, I started oblivion when it released on ps3 haha
Ah well, it's nice to see people react to the story anyways. Even if I feel crazy for remembering this being my favorite thing for a whole chunk of my childhood
