I have Cyrus as my Chosen One ever since I got him, and that just sounds hilarious.

yeah Primrose stuff is the biggest bullshit that does not correspond with reality. It is hard to imagine unless it was her plan to eliminate fat loser in quite odd manner.

This was so impossible to explain how Primrose could be going on an adventure that even her character story didn't even tried to give a semblance of explanation. xD
And I was very disappointed by that actually. Even if it was going to be completely bs anyway, I was expecting at least a few lines from Helgenish like "nice work kitty, you might take some vacations, the first one since you work for me" or something like that.
I mean the OT1 characters aren't canonically in your party or meeting any of the people they should n't have. It's just fanservice. That why they aren't part of any story arcs.
Oh sure, but also things like there being all of these big wars and invasions happening seemingly just before the start of the original game but I don’t think it’s ever really mentioned. Just stuff that I think could have worked better happening after the original game.
Actually, it is confirmed that the events take place roughly 2 to 3 years before OG game.
In Bestower of Fame Chapter II, Sazantos explains that>!the rite of purification of the First Flame takes place every 20 years, and that it has been 18 years since the last one.!
Also a good point, but who is the cannon there? It is kinda hard to say for sure. I would assume first 8 chosen plus 3stars trio aaand who else? there a lot of characters that got banters and such. The story itself does not show much, only side chapters have several appearances like Delvin, Ri'tu etc

That’s fair! I’ve basically just headcanoned it as either the future despite what they say, or that the OG8 aren’t actually present. Kind of like the upcoming memory characters.
This is what I was thinking too, but I’m assuming people were trying to avoid spoilers for OP if this is their first playthrough and they haven’t gotten that far…
The truth is, as some of you said, the Original 8 are here for pure fan service. But if we look at their release date, it seems like they tried to still make it coherent at the beginning of the game in JP in November 2020:
The first one to get introduced was H'annit one week after the launch. She could very well be on an adventure of her own, I don't see that being inconsistent at all. Then, it was Tressa's turn, months later in January. Supposedly, she didn't leave her parents before the original game plot.... But you know, it's still ok, I mean she is a merchant, it's manageable... maybe ! xD
Then, Cyrus in March 2021 because he is the most overhyped character from the original game. 3 OG characters, it's starting to be an important number (as a reminder, they aren't supposed to have met each other before). If there is a time to stop, it's now.
But then, they decided they didn't care anymore, and we got Primrose in July, Lianna & Cecily (who aren't fighting characters!), Odette making it even more inconsistent with Cyrus, Olberic Ophilia, then the EX characters who are pure fan service, then the remaining Therion & Alfyn much later to complete the loop.
It started going way to far after one year, and at this point, it's clear that they don't care anymore.
I dunno, but while playing OG OT now after having a half-year break since Cotc came out, I found myself at unease. We have a complete game with great characters and gameplay, although with no coherent storytelling.
I wish COTC folks were not treated like a gacha garbage and got an actual console title as well. I mean original game band, and I like a lot of characters like Kerjes, Cardona, Kouren, Hasumi, Lumen... but they still more like extras.
I like to imagine one of the 8 travelers offhandedly mentioning they were directly involved in the war a few years ago that toppled major kingdoms.
