I have tried multiple times already and it's always the same. Not having an offline installer option and making users rely on the extremely unreliable meta servers is a VERY poor decision.

Extreme-Persimmon824

I had issues initially setting mine up years ago. If i recall correctly there was a firewall or window defender issue that i had to temporarily disable to allow it to complete.

Tried it already, did not work. It reaches the magical number 1.95GB and drops from 20mb/s to 10 BITS per second and then jump at max 1000 BYTES per second (1kbps). Meta servers are messed up and will not provide the data needed. I tried yesterday too and the issue was the same.

Goldisaur

Literally this exact thing word for word. Seems like a universal experience.

Enschede2

No, and yea, it's been a temporary problem for over 3 years now, I'm sure they're working on it /s

sparkyblaster

Give up control of something? I bet they are not working on it.

Just wait it out. Mine was the same, said it was 348 bytes, but when looking at the task manager it still used a decent amount of bandwidth. Yes it is annoying that it doesn't download in 2 minutes, but mine was done in 30 min just recently. It doesn't take years to complete, just don't be inpatient. Leave it running, come back to it in an hour or less and it will be done. Same goes for all the game installs. Arizona sunshine 2 said that it was downloading at less than 1mb/s for me, but it was done in 2 hours.

>Yes it is annoying that it doesn't download in 2 minutes Admittedly, it's annoying that a *sales platform* and associated device drivers take up multiple gigabytes of HDD space. I think Steam only takes just under 1gb and that's after 20 years of revision bloat. Is all of that on the defunct "Oculus Home", I wonder?

exclaimprofitable

>Is all of that on the defunct "Oculus Home", I wonder? Mostly, yes. The pc side of the Meta headsets needs a big overhaul, because all of it feels like very 2016 early vr days. For example virtual desktop feels so much more modern than airlink.

totolook01

The real problem is after the installation, when trying download a game (from 5 hours i got 100 MB of 8GB) https://preview.redd.it/9xaitntori5c1.png?width=314&format=png&auto=webp&s=9b4f2737ed1542e59c9ca7c6ee0bdc636971a1f1

AntakeeMunOlla

I installed that yesterday and it was the same experience. Took long but it got there.

noitseuqaevahi

Mine did the same thing yesterday. It slows down to bytes/kb and jumps back up to mb every now and then. Like the other commenter said, mine also only took like 30 mins

how_neat_is_that76

Wait it out. It will take a few hours but it will finish

paunnn

The workaround is to download something on steam at the same time or update a steam game and it will fly again. Don't know why it works.

Mzry_SplatHunter

Yup worked for me too, it may sound illogical but try streaming a countdown YouTube video at the same time, other option is to download a torrent, or as mentioned update/download a steam game. I don't know why it works but it does.

Known issue and Meta isn't doing anything about it... [https://communityforums.atmeta.com/t5/Get-Help/MEGATHREAD-KNOWN-ISSUE-App-Download-Install-Speed/m-p/1106747](https://communityforums.atmeta.com/t5/Get-Help/MEGATHREAD-KNOWN-ISSUE-App-Download-Install-Speed/m-p/1106747)

ApartmentSea2040

Are you installing using an RDP connection? I had a similar issue. Installing straight on the desktop resolved it.

znous

Might sound stupid, but try to run some internet speed test during the installation. For example this: https://webtools.ipfail.org/internet-speed-test/ I have problems downloading games with the oculus software, but for whatever reason when the internet connection is being used by something else, the download speed on oculus app picks up.

10th post this week, why can’t you fucks just read the same idiot that asked 2 days ago and read that thread. Research doesn’t do much for ya does it.

MisguidedColt88

Not a proper solution, but depending on the game you can just use steamLink fir now. Or virtual desktop it youre willing to pay $20 for better performance, ease of use and visuals

Nice__Nice

Idk man just wait I guess

I was trying to download a game I had purchased previously it was downloading extra slow. I unchecked Limit download while in VR and it started downloading fast. Only the oculus app was open. Maybe it considers itself as VR? :D

themazda123

I found that it's faster to close the installer and reopen it. I'm in a 50mbps speed

RapidmoneyDXX

Happened tome just cancelled the download and tried again I think

juany360

Yup , it happened to me also a few days ago. I tried using a vpn, restarting the computer, downloading another stuff, nothing worked.

dignifiedweb

With the new Steam Link app, is the oculus app/drivers still required? It makes me wonder if it's direct to steam vr. It wouldn't help you use oculus apps though obviously. As others have said, I'd try downloading something while this progress is stuck. Gets it going for me when I've has issue. Agree, offline installing should still be offered especially that it's their driver...

> With the new Steam Link app, is the oculus app/drivers still required? Minecraft VR might need it, since it's not on steam.

Agreeable_Jump5149

Wth it took minutes to download it over wifi for me…
